Some people said that love and hate couldn't coexist. That such polarizing emotions could never be assigned to one singular thing at the same time. That much like roller coasters or Brussels sprouts, you either felt love or you felt hate, but never both. Common ground was nowhere to be found, forcing a person to pick a side. Olivia Quinn would tell those people that they'd never met Asher Coleson. Never met him. Never touched him. Never loved him. And never hated him.
Asher Coleson hadn't always lived his life from the outside looking in. That neat little trick of the mind started somewhere around four years ago. Right about the time he'd gone to sleep one night living the American dream and woken up the next morning in his own private nightmare. Considering he was a front-lines defender of that American dream, it was irony at its best. But that didn't change his life story. Magic to tragic, in less time than it took paint to dry.
All books in the LOVE HAPPENS SERIES can be read on their own, or as a companion to the other books in the series: Next to Me (Sam) Wrong then Right (Beckett) True to You (Asher)
Jodi Watters writes contemporary romance that’s flirty, dirty, real, and fun. With witty dialogue, loads of emotion, and super steamy times, her novels will suck you in until the very last page.
Her love for romance began in junior high, when she and a friend noticed a dumpster of discarded paperbacks behind a local dime store. Covers missing and each book split down the spine, she scanned the pages for any love or lust words—and curse words, too. From that point on, she scoured the public library and the paperback racks at every store, reading anything labeled romance. She said a tearfully grateful goodbye to Judy Blume, and Jackie Collins began ruling her world.
She lives with her high school sweetheart husband in the desert Southwest, and just wants to be a stay-at-home dog mom.
Her lifelong goals are to think before she speaks, smile more and swear less, and actually weigh what her driver's license states she does.
I really like Jodi Watters' writing style. It's so readable and instantly draws you into the story. However, I can't say that I enjoyed this story too much. The impossible situation that prefaced the current day of this story was OTT dramatic. I mean, I can see it happening in real life, but I wouldn't have picked up this book if I'd known about the circumstances. It was just too sad. Aside from that, the reactions of both MCs really bothered me. One was too bitter to forgive and live on. The other was too proud to become vulnerable again. And why, oh why, can't people just communicate?! And the whole issuing ultimatums while in the heat of the moment is so juvenile. Just talk it out and bypass all the stupid angst.
So even though I enjoyed the storytelling (except for the bouncing back and forth between flashbacks and the current day), the plot itself wasn't for me. And I have a hard time enjoying stories that are laden with profanity, so there's that too. And finally, the focus on sex- thinking about sex, having oral sex, having regular sex- overwhelmed the story until it became almost solely about two very horny individuals.
The thing that saved this story from being a plain ol' two star was the fact that both the MCs were celibate during their separation. I mean, come on...how much more romantic is that? I'm sick and tired of manhos or Hs who claim to love the h but have lots of sex with ow in the meantime. That definitely was not the case here. However, I do wish that the separation wasn't so long (4 years) and that the two of them would have just freaking talked to each other.
This book was better than I expected. Although there were parts that I really didn't like, there were also parts that I loved...but after I finished reading the book and found that my overriding emotion was that I was still pissed at the hero, I had to rate accordingly.
I'm not a military wife so I have no idea what it's like to have your husband away for long periods of time, and to have go through something like Liv did by yourself. I also don't know what it's like to be Ash, to be away from your wife when she needs you the most; not because you want to be away from her, because you have no choice. I hated that they were apart and that there was nothing Ash could've done, and Liv had every right to feel the way she did.
But he waited and did absolutely nothing to get his wife back during the whole time they were separated. Now, I don't know when he quit 'The Unit', but he started up Scorpio with his business partner three years prior to the story starting. So while they've been separated for four years, there were 3 of those years where he could've gotten off his arse and gone after her. But he didn't. Instead he waited for her to come to him. I didn't like that and found him way too passive. So if Liv didn't come to him, he would've still just waited around??
Anyhoo, Ash and Liv come to an agreement, and soon enough, they actually have the conversation they should have had four years ago, where they both admit to their part in the breakdown of their marriage, and move on. I was happy that they worked it out and that they both owned up to their own shit. That was awesome. I didn't like Ash much before then but at 75% when you actually see how much their past really did affect him, he made me feel for him, and I was happy they were together.
Then it all went to shit at around the 85% mark where he gets angry and gives her the ultimatum about his dad and the vineyard.
Don't get me wrong, I'm happy about the ending and totally believe in their HEA. I'm glad things worked out the way they did. I just think that he wasn't really that much of a hero for me. I don't like feeling that the next he doesn't get his way, that he'll tell her, once again, that she needs to fall in line with his plan or they're done. I hate that uncertainty. I do see them sticking it out (her working more for it than him), but would've liked him to actually show Liv how much he trusted her and showed her how much he was willing to work for them.
This was a good book but for some reasons I couldn’t feel an emotional connection especially in the last part of it. Basically the couple has been separated for four years, since she lost her child and he wasn’t home due to his job. Actually his job wasn’t a job because he was a soldier in the special op, so at the time of her pregnancy he was in some kind of African country saving children. So he could not be at home with his wife when she most needed him. I’m not fond of superheroes because imo there’s a great amount of narcissism and selfishness in their choice to be the one to save the world. But it’s ok I accept that anyone of us has to make their choices and the hero made his. The heroine was well aware that he had this kind of job and she accepted it, so her rage to him because he couldn’t be at home with her was not justified. She could have been sad, lonely, even angry but it was never his fault if she lost their child and he couldn’t stay at home with her. He was on a mission and he would have been a deserter if he stayed with her. She left him because he had a job to do, a job she knew very well what required of him. Then they were separated for four years during which he left the job and opened an agency. None of them tried to see the other. The heroine had to meet him because her father in law asked her to and since she worked at his winery she went to see the hero. Basically neither of them moved on, he was sulking and grumpy all the time and she worked all day long. The author would like us to believe he loved her with all his heart so why did he never try a reconciliation? Why did she have to ask for a divorce for him to force her to try again? I don’t understand. There’s a part where they talk openly for the first time about what happened, but why after all these years? And all seems to be solved in a few days of sex and declarations but at the first issue the hero gets mad and decides it’s over. Wtf??? This was inconsistent and not realistic after he waited four years to be with her again! I couldn’t understand why he was angry with her and behaved like a spoiled brat. At that point I was hoping she really divorced him and found a more centered and reliable man, one who gave her children and stability in her life. Then all is solved again with his half hearted apology that makes me think he will do other stunts like this in the future- again and again. It could have been four stars for the angst and the pleasant writing style but those inconsistencies made me uncomfortable and I was disappointed about the last part. So average of 3 stars.
Was he a jerk sometimes? Yes, but he Was a Hot jerk. Lol. Seriously when he and the heroine met it Was spontaneous combustion and I just felt all the love. Then he goes back to war and she loses the baby and he doesn't get there in time and she has a total nervous breakdown. It was tragic hearing about it but I felt bad for him too. He can't just leave a war. I was a little angry at her for not understanding but he was a little cold too. And don't get me started on the whole Father/Son dynamics which were so screwed up. It was like crazy what happened. I liked that they both stayed true to their goes after all they weren't divorced and I loved his team so much. And their wives. Just an all around great read. I definitely felt all the emotions and I cried too. They have been apart but when they get back together they rock it. I really loved the book . It was definitely worth the read.
Amazing book... Two people... Third person... Grieve, what do we know about it? Mourning, how everyone does it? Happiness, does everyone deserve it? Although i liked a lot this book, but i will not re-read it, it contains some triggers (ask me in PM), and it was hard. Its not dark, there is no BDSM so popular last days. I like author’s style, plot, main and second characters. MCs were celibate during 4 (!!!) years separation to each other!! She is a beautiful, career-driven woman, he is an ex-special forces soldier... They are everything one to another... But... Give it a chance! Worth it!
I have mixed feelings about this book. They are married but split up. The reason is eluded to as "her" throughout the first part of the story and at first other than being another woman I thought it could be the military as one of their issues is. The heroine feels the Hero always puts the military first. When they first meet it's very Insta love so maybe they have issues as they haven't really built a good foundation by getting to know each other first. I don't have a full understanding of living as a military family as that's not my life but if she knew this was a commitment for him for however long he is signed up for then you can't really complain that he is in your life then away again. At the same time he describes their relationship to a mate later as them locking themselves away when he came home for a short time so it could seem, esp to the reader, like a booty call. This is his life at the moment, that's what a marriage to him will look like or you know its for a set time before he gets out and takes a different career.
The other issue is when he gets out he doesn't seek her out, in fact she goes to him, otherwise you get the impression they never would have got back together. I didn't think this fitted with his 'alpha' personality we see later on. At the same time, she doesn't remember but things happen at the time of the breakup and he did try then and she was harsh. The 'she' is a daughter they lost who was died prebirth. This is handled really well. It's emotional and very heartbreaking. One thing I really liked was they were both celibate during the separation which I think was 4 years esp the Hero as his workmates assumed he was with women. For the Hero he says there will never be anyone else. There is another issue with his father. The Hero's actions a disappointing after they decide to make a go of it, he is cruel and lashes out. I would wonder if I crossed him in the future would he lash out at me again. The circumstances are extreme but still he is supposed to love her to bits so....
No cheating. No intimate scenes with anyone other than the Hero and heroine. HEA. References to characters from books earlier in the series,I assume, I haven't read them yet. Dual POV. Flashbacks to original meeting.

Blurb:: Olivia Quinn wasn’t looking for love. Climbing the corporate ladder at a thriving winery filled her days, and HGTV and a bottle of Coleson Creek chardonnay filled her nights. Hooking up with the heir to that winery seemed a bad idea for both her heart, and her employment status. But even a maxed-out Visa couldn’t make her say no to an impetuous two-day sex fest with a sapphire-eyed soldier who wore rugged and handsome like a tailored suit, and danger like a second skin.
Two days, that led to a promise of a lifetime. Or so she thought.
Asher Coleson is former Special Ops and 100% alpha. The sole heir to a family winery he wants jack shit to do with, he’s the strong, silent type, hardened not by the military, but by the aching absence of his one true love. Underneath his aloof attitude and sinewy muscle—all six and a half feet of him—lies a man so loyal to his beloved Olivia, he’s living half a life. And that half doesn’t include sex. He’s a bit... backed up. And not happy about it, either, but only his Olivia can satisfy him.
These days, getting lucky means only one thing. Getting his wife back.
It was a great book but I think everything could have been resolved if they had just talked about it, instead they let it sit and simmer for four years before they talked about it.
Finally...I mean I know its only book 3, but finally I got my hands on Asher's story. His cold hearted, no bull exterior made me think a whole lot of hurt or bad juju happened. All it took was one line in the very beginning for me to figure out exactly what happened. The journey, however, was worth every agonizing, soul crushing, anger inducing minute.
Love isn't easy. Especially when you fall for a fictional character who doesn't listen to your rants at their behavior...I'm just saying...
I highly recommend, if you haven't already, reading books one and two in the series for a full briefing on the character and current situations for each of these persons of interest. Dossiers are provided in their pages. Hurry before info is redacted. Scorpio may not be classified but all of its employees have been at one time or another. Oh and FYI, that cute, sweet lady at reception, she's probably a trained assassin. You've been warned. From here on out your heart is at its own risk, so be True to You.
Okay, while this series is definitely standalones that can be read in any order, I am definitely going to have to go back and read the first two books. I loved the supporting characters, so I am really interested in their stories. Ashton and Olivia are a very passionate and intriguing couple. Their very short and but hot relationship was one that I enjoyed reading about. I definitely felt for each of them and what had happened to them, but it was hard at times to give Ash a break or feel sorry for him after what he did to Olivia. Even knowing that he was hurt as much as she was, the way he handled it, and his treatment of his father, even with what his father may have deserved, was not very flattering for him. In the end though, I really wanted them to just realize they needed each other and get back together. Still, you should pick this up and give it a try, and also probably pick up the rest in the series like I intend to.
This book came as a surprise to me. I read the blurb and knew it sounded like something I would like, but I was surprised by just how much I enjoyed it. It chronicles Ash and Liv, who met one night and had an explosive start to their relationship. They fell hard and fast, but situations and others separated them. Fast forward six years, and they meet again. And the explosive feelings are still there. They fight an uphill battle while trying to overcome the obstacles in their way.
This was the first book I've read by Jodi Watters, and this won't be my last. This was the third book in the series, and while you do not have needed to read the others before this one, I will go back because it sparked my interest in the side characters.
Oh wow wow wow!!!! This was my first read by Jodi and let me tell you it will definitely not be my last!!!! After reading True to you I wanna read all the other books to!!! Oh Ash and Olivia's story was so beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time!!! I had tears streaming down my face in parts of the book cause I could feel there heartbreak and I know how they felt as I went through something similar!!!! The story was so beautifully written and with so much emotion in just couldn't stop reading it!!!! You would fall in love with the characters and with this book I have no doubt!!!!
Another insta-love Another misunderstanding Another 4 years of separation Another insta-reconciliation Another asshole hero Another doormat heroine Another did not finish
True to You is definitely true to my heart! Wow! This was my first read by Jodi Watters and I’m in love with her writing and writing style as much as I am this book. I don’t normally get excited about a writer’s words or techniques but I’ll have to review that as well just because I’m so giddy about it that it brings out my inner English professor geek! So, the story review. Holy wetness! Hot. Flaming Hot! There is no denying the passion felt between Olivia and Asher Coleson, it leaps off the page and will scorch your hand, singe your Kindle Fire. Olivia Quinn, a sweet and sassy southern belle from Savanah, GA and Asher Coleson, a rebel, black sheep of the family, born into a bit of a well to do family in wine country California. She, with her cousin, find themselves in his neck of the woods and run into each other while he’s on leave from the Army at his family’s vineyard. The fireworks are immediate. Nobody has ever affected Ash like this before nor treated him with the sass that Olivia throws at him. In a whirlwind romance they get married. Despite his strained relationship with his father and some kind of tragedy involving his mother and his father’s mistress, Marshall Coleson still expects his son to take over the family business once he’s separated from the Army. The long deployments, the secrets of his job he can’t share, his wife working for the vineyard owned by the father he can’t stand, all of this adds up to a strain in the relationship. Years go by. They come back together as Liv needs his help with getting in with a big distributor. Not something that she is looking forward to at all given with how their marriage fell apart (there was no cheating btw) but her anxiety is palpable. So is the sexual tension as soon as they are reacquainted. The love / hate between these two ignites some hot and steamy, panty melting scenes! But she wants nothing to do with him, other than maybe sex, and wants to move on but he just won’t let her go! He pulls out all the charm and sexiness to win her over. But how hard does he have to pile it on? She makes it clear she’d only hook up with him, he makes it clear that okay with him but he’s going to try like hell to win her back. Review of writing: Descriptions, turns of phrases, nothing awkward or choppy about the flow of the narrative. “Because it’s where you belong. And we’ll get to the sex eventually. But first, I want what leads up to sex. I want drinks. I want dinner and conversation. I want to hear about your day and tell you about mine. Hear your hopes and dreams, and tell you mine. Share our secrets and know they’re safe. I want to know you again, Liv, and it could take a while. “Well, look at you.” She choked out a disgusted laugh. “You went and got yourself all romantic and shit. When did you have time for that?” This is an example of what good writing should be. Ms. Watters takes the time to consider her words carefully, how they sound together, and the cadence of the dialogue. The personalities of the characters come through in their words. The repletion of “I want” in the example give it a seriousness and an intensity. That kind of gifted writing is all throughout this book. Oh and the alliteration swoonworthy!! “the oven timer beeping a reprieve from the past.” The unique similes! LOVE! “lingerie was like a midrare steak served with rosemary sprigs jutting out of it – a pretty embellishment, but unnecessary.” This, my fellow book lovers is a well-honed work of art. Jodi Watter’s writing gives meaning to the word craft as used to describe the This was not a book I could read quickly. The story went by fast enough, the pace was good and ebbed and flowed but I wanted to savor it.
Is anything more sexy than a man who loves his wife? After reading True to You, I would be hard pressed to say no. For Asher and Olivia, it is love at first sight. Not in the puppy-love, high school sweetheart way but a passion-filled forever kind of love. Unfortunately, that love may not be enough withstand a devastating tragedy. They spend four years attempting to recover and live their lives, apart. Asher is unable to move forward without the love of his life. This man is so in love with his wife, he keeps their home exactly the way it was when she walked out. Olivia, wrapping a heated blanket of anger and hatred around herself like a suit of armor goes through the motions. The time and distance only reinforce her feelings of abandonment and betrayal. Both of them waiting for something to happen that will either restore their marriage or enable them to just move beyond the pain and end it. Despite everything, they still love each other enough to stay true to their wedding vows. There is passion, humor, heartbreak, forgiveness and restoration in this love story.
I love how Jodi Watters told their story. The flow of the plot was solid even with flashbacks placed intermittently between the present day storyline. I find that most authors are not able to successfully pull this off without confusing the reader. She pulled it off perfectly. They really enhanced the way the story developed for me. The characters had strong chemistry with each other as well as the supporting cast. The romance was steamy and sexy without being overly graphic. I loved that the sex was not forced into the story but moved the plot forward. Overall, everything I want in in a romance.
I would highly recommend True to You by Jodi Watters. This was the first book that I have read by this author but I will definitely be reading her other works.
So...I read the blurb to this book & I thought to myself...yeah I will give it a go...sounds like a pretty good tale. Oh my God...I am totally floored! From page 1 I was captured and enthralled by Jodi's 3rd book in her A Love Happens series. These books are standalones and as I have not read books 1&2 I can safely say that you do not need to have read the previous 2 books to really enjoy this one....however I can guarantee you that once you've read this you WILL go back & read the others. This book has whet my appetite for Jodi Watters & I cannot wait to get into those published previously. True to You is a most wonderfully crafted story. It brings us into the lives of Asher & Olivia Coleson, a retired special ops agent & an executive manager for Asher's father's vineyard. The way that Jodi has so beautifully & intricately woven their heartbreak & passion into such a believable & entertaining piece of prose has truly been exceptional. They say that there is a fine line between love & hate....well Liv & Ash certainly stretch this line to almost non-existence & even though this was a story filled with so much pain & hurt & sadness, it was also one of the most uplifting & amusing books I've read. I really can't express how wonderful this book is. This book earns a huge 5⛤ rating from me...just so so good!
Hate and love can co-exist. I've learned that from this book. It started off so slow for me!! I had to continue reading it to find out what I needed to know (can't give away any spoilers) I liked Ash and Liv and at the same time hated them! You can tell they're meant to be together but they fight it so much! They have great sex but can't communicate at all! I was dieing reading their story, hoping they would magically just live happily ever after. But Jodi shows you that real relationships aren't like that. There will be hardships. And it's up to you and your partner if you guys will stay together and get through the hardships or not. Great job, Jodi.
I voluntarily received this Advanced Reader's Copy for reviewing purposes only** First Jodi Watters book, I have read, truthfully. Both Asher and Olivia Coleson are in a dark and stagnant place after a tragic occurrence in their life. Her working for his estranged father further complicates the marriage. But where there is a seed of hope and grace, love can build a garden. Filled with some tragedy, lightheadedness, and true to life experiences, this book has everything.
I tried to read this for a second time, and, for the second time, I just could stay with it. Maybe it’s just not the book for me in this season of life. It is so highly rated that I may try again, but for now, I’m ok to put it in the DNF pile. No rating from me right now. I didn’t stop reading because of bad editing or poor story, etc., but because I am looking for a different kind of story right now.
This book was really good. I wish I had read the series from the beginning but I started here lol! Watters does a great job of painting everything in your head. She is so descriptive while creating scenes. I really felt like I was standing in a vineyard which I have never seen in my life. Everything felt very real in this book.
3.5? Stars. Couple both celibate during their 4 year separation.
I really liked the the first 85% of the book, then the conflict stuff happened and I really wasn’t a fan of how the hero handled it. It just seemed really out of character for him. So I was heavily annoyed. I wish he would have groveled more. I would have rated this book 4.5 stars if that had happened.
This is my second read in the series and am so pleased it didn't disappoint. Watters does a great job with her characters and delivers a great plotline with enough juicy bits to keep it steamy. Great job!!!
True To You by Jodi Watters is book 3 in her Love Happens series and can be read as a standalone.
Olivia Quinn has spent the last four years trying to deal with the heartache and anger caused by her whole world collapsing after a whirlwind romance and marriage. Therapy doesn't seem to be helping, but after receiving some advice from her therapist, Olivia decides it's time to confront the past and the guy who she blames for causing it all in the hope she can finally move on.
Asher Coleson had difficult choices to make four years ago and although his hands were tied, he regrets the ones he had to make as they resulted in him losing one of the two things he'd only ever wanted in life. Asher isn't ready to deal with the past or the pain it caused but he may have no choice when Olivia unexpectedly arrives at his office.
“The hate is holding you prisoner. Set yourself free, any way you can, even if it means confronting it.” - Marie, Olivia’s Therapist
This is the first book I've read by Jodi Watters and I couldn't put it down. It's currently 2am and I've only just finished after reading it all in one go. I felt so many emotions as I read about Olivia and Ash’s story, and even though they couldn't see it, they were amazingly strong people who just didn't know how to deal with what happened. I suspect many would have also struggled and fallen apart, so what happened to them is understandable. However, they actually needed each other to be able to start healing; they needed each other's love and support. Their story had me hoping for a HEA for them as they definitely deserved one after everything they'd gone through.
Jodi Watters is an fantastic author who uses the perfect words and descriptions to show the reader exactly how devastated Olivia and Ash are. You could feel their pain and also anger towards each other. Just as the couples suffering almost became too much to continue reading about, Jodi Watters would throw in a little comedy and had me laughing. She gets the balance just right and at no point did I find any of the humour inappropriate or distasteful; in fact, I think it was needed to remind the reader that there's also light and laughter when dealing with darkness in life. I was also surprised when the story didn't end where I expected it to and Jodi Watters gives the reader more drama and emotion. I love it when books give you the unexpected and deciding to continue with Olivia and Ash’s story was a brilliant idea because I wasn't ready for them to leave yet.
I loved the other characters we get to meet and I definitely plan on reading the first two books in this series; Next To Me (book 1) and Wrong Then Right (book 2). True To You is worth the 5 stars I've awarded it and I definitely recommend this book to other readers. Jodi Watters is an author I'll be keeping my eye on!
Definitely 4.5/5. I have looked forward to Asher's story, and I was not disappointed. Ash and Olivia's story is one of family dysfunction and immense grief. Well edited.
We met Asher in the two previous novels, as he is one of the partners in Scorpio Securities and Hope's brother. We got a mention here and there of Olivia. In a surprise to most, Asher and Olivia were married six years before the events in this book. What happened to tear this couple apart, and why has Ash kept his wife a secret?
In this one, we find out a bit more about the deep rift between Asher and his father. Unfortunately, Marshall sees Olivia as a potential weapon in his battle with his son. On one Asher's trips home to check on Hope, he meets Olivia and finds love at first sight is a thing. Within short order, Asher and Olivia marry, and about a year later, Olivia is pregnant with their first child. Asher is still in the military, and is gone and often uncommunicative for long periods of time. This is difficult for Olivia, especially the further into her pregnancy she goes. Tragedy strikes, and Asher is half a world away. By the time he gets home, Olivia is so distraught that she lashes out at Asher. Things are said, she walks out, and numbness and pain settle between them. Four years later, Asher and Olivia are both living in a pain filled limbo. Can they find a way through the pain and back to love? Will Marshall continue to interfere? Will Olivia ever forgive Asher for not being home when she needed him most? Will Asher trust her not to walk away again when things get hard?
This was a really emotional story of two people dealing with immense grief. Grief is such a tricky thing. Everyone processes it differently. Unfortunately, even the people suffering have expectations of how someone suffering the same loss should behave. In many ways, it is understandable, and part of the process. In others, it is as deeply unfair as it is for someone on the outside to say how any one person should process loss. Fortunately for this story, Asher and Olivia have a tenuous hold on each other through the darkest times, until they can finally communicate and begin to heal together. Very moving story. Enjoy.
God, this book was everything. I'm going to go ahead and deem it one of my top 5 all time favorite books. It's not often where I feel as though I can't pick up another book for a few days-in fear of comparing it to the amazing one I just finished. This book-it is that book. It's that book you can't put down, it's the book you never want to be finished- it's the book that you need a movie for-a television show, and most of all this book will stay with me for the rest of my life as a favorite. This was the first book I read by this author, and I have already added all of her others to my to be read list. Olivia and Asher were meant to be together, and after so many second chances, it's evident that nothing can tear them a part. Asher has always had a poor relationship with his winery owning father. He enlisted to get far away from his dysfunction. One trip home changes his life, when he meets Olivia, his fathers "right hand woman" and VP of Coleson Creek Wines. Their love is fast-with so many issues, but this second chance story will blow you away. This couple is put through the ringer, and after everything, all you can hope for is a happy ending. This book needs to be downloaded right now. I've read tons of military romance novels-and it's no secret this is one of the best to ever be done. I just simply can't say enough how everything about this book was utterly amazing-I LOVED the author's writing. I didn't mind the flashbacks, it aided in telling the story and flowed so well. I fell IN LOVE with the characters-Olivia is laugh out loud hilarious! Her southern sass is right on the money, and Asher's alpha personality complements hers so much. I want to hear each and every characters life story-down to the house keeper at the winery. This book made me laugh, made me cry, broke my heart, and put it all back together again in the best way possible.
Book three in this series tells the story of Asher and Olivia. This is a second chance romance that is full of emotion. The author keeps the reader in suspense, not revealing all of the details of the reason their marriage fell apart before until more than half way into the book. There are hints, and the reader can speculate part of them prior to the reveal. Once I understood the full story, I was heartbroken for both characters. I did find myself a little irritated with Olivia on occasion as the past is revealed. She was jealous and resentful of the demand of his unit. Asher was already part of Delta when they married. I do not deny that the struggle of a military spouse is difficult. At the same time, every military spouse I have known understood that their spouse was owned by the military for their term of service. They understood that Uncle Sam comes first before everything, including their marriage and children. That is not to say they did not resent it at times. And certainly, being involved in a special forces team would take this to a higher level. I just felt that Olivia should not have been so surprised. That said, I can certainly understand her devastation at being alone as the story is revealed. This couple had a lot to overcome to get their HEA. I felt like the story does a good job demonstrating the need to for honest and complete communication within a marriage. I do not cry often when I read books, but I will admit I shed a couple of tears with their story. I highly recommend this series full of manly, honorable heroes and the strong women who love them.
I’m a huge fan of angst and pain, and books that make me cry, so that’s kind of exactly what I was looking for when I picked up this book. It was recommended me when I was looking for a book about two people who are married but had a long period of separation. I admit I was a little worried because the Hero was a military guy, I move military romances but I tend to get hung up on mistakes about military life. Thankfully in this book the military, while being a constant in the book, is fairly vague, so there aren’t really any details to get wrong. Plus it’s not really about the military, this book is really about two people and their love, pain, and hate. So Olivia and Ash married in a whirlwind romance, loved hard, and then tragedy happened. And instead of bringing them together it just pulled them apart. Both of them are just two people in a lot of pain. There are a lot of moments where your heart just breaks for them, especially when then finally get to the heart of the matter and really talk to each other. There is a lot I could say about these two, but I don’t want to mess up the impact the book will have on you if you experience it all with them. I really love second chances, and seeing two people work through their issues without any outside interference, at the end of the day it’s just two people. Not even a little ashamed to say this book had me tear up.
