Fallen for You

Rate this book
When you work with someone for years, you THINK you know them pretty well.

We're Agents of Her Majesty's Secret Service, we're adrenaline junkies, we constantly land in hot water, but we get the job done. I thought I knew all there was to know about Martin Bishop...

But that all changed after the accident in the barn. The day I found out Martin's been hiding things from me. Two things actually. Big, black, feathered things that he can apparently summon at will.

Now Martin's grounded, we're under a death sentence from his people, and it turns out I'm not the only one that's been hiding an attraction to my partner. Surely there can't be anything else?

2★'s = it was ok.

I seem to keep getting myself in these precarious situations with books and I’m left a tad bit dumbfounded and almost, almost at a loss for words.

I have no idea what I just read.

Really. No idea.

This might be one of the most bizarre shifter (I don’t even think that is the right terminology for this) book I have ever read. Ever.

Ok. Let’s see. This book was all over the place. No wait, that’s not necessarily true. This book read to me like it was in sections. Section one this and that happens and then it is over. Section two starts and something new happens and then that ends. I guess they didn’t really end actually because then all of a sudden the author was connecting the separate sections. I don’t know if that makes sense but I don’t really know how else to describe it. Something about it didn’t feel fluid. It felt choppy.

This I guess is a romance and I think these two guys being work partners, roommates and it seems besties and then getting together is cool and I love that kind of set up but I don’t know if it was romantic per se. It was at times super hot but I don’t think it felt romancey. And I don’t know if I ever really got to know either of them honestly. I had a really, really, really hard time keeping up with the POV changes because of this. Most times I was unsure who was talking until names were used. I dunno, I just didn’t get a feel for them and how they got together was slightly awkward and almost business like or something.

The book got real crazy too. Like whoa this is nuts and it just keeps getting crazier and crazier.

Thing is, I didn’t really hate it and I kept wanting to know what happened I just didn’t completely connect to it. Like I didn’t have to keep reading even when I shouldn’t be. It took me quite a bit of time to get to the end truthfully. It wasn’t easy reading and I know at times I was kind of not totally into it but there was a little something that kept me going.

I hated how the case ended up. What? I just don’t get it. What? I don’t even know what to say that isn’t a spoiler so I just will leave it at that. What??

I also hated the end. It didn’t make any sense. I mean none. It was like its own brand new section thrown in the mix with all the others but for some reason the author chose not to have this new development have an end or any freaking explanation and then it just ended. So yeah, not cool really and mostly just more confusing and a lot more crazy.

I’d probably only recommend you read this one so we could chat about it. I don’t know if I think I’d recommend it for the content unfortunately, it just was totally odd. It’s got some decent reviews so you know, what do I know?

“I’m afraid that… if you know it all, it will be too much. I’m a lot to take. I know that. Everybody tells me, all the time. I thought if I could shield you from it, hide some of it, then it wouldn’t be… so much.”

NOTE: I received a complimentary ARC of this book from NineStar Press through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Just a little forewarning: This book contains very detailed sexual content. The publisher included a “BDSM lite” tag with the NetGalley description but there is no warning on Goodreads and the tag isn't any indication of how detailed those scenes are. So, if you’re not comfortable with explicit sexual content, this book is probably not something you’re going to enjoy because there’s a lot of it.

I actually liked this one a lot more than I thought I was going to. I had a couple issues with it which I’ll get into in a minute, but mostly I think it’s a great first novel by Jules Dee. It reads a little like Sherlock fanfiction with wings but I honestly think that’s part of the appeal.

**WARNING - SPOILERS AHEAD**

I really enjoyed the romance in this book because it wasn’t the typical “boy meets boy and they fall in love” story. When the story starts, Martin and Casey have been partners (in the British Secret Service) for years, so they already have an established relationship and we join them right as that relationship begins to become more than platonic, which is perfect for this book because there’s already so much else going on.

All of the relationships in this story were just perfect. Martin and Casey are the perfect mix of effortless chemistry and quirky fun, their friendship with Alissa is so wholesome and supportive, and Jared and Leon’s relationship was possibly my favourite. Honestly, I need another story from Jared or Leon’s point of view about their relationship because they are so complete opposites but they’re perfect together and I just love them!

The story was also an intriguing concept. I really like that the Avian were an evolutionary glitch rather than just being passed off as angels or escaped science experiments, as seems to be the trend with every other humans-with-wings books out there. And the addition of the virus was a really clever way to add more tension to the ending.

Now, let’s talk about the issues I mentioned earlier. I think the biggest issue I had, the main reason I didn’t give this a full five stars, was pacing. There were a lot of sections where events seemed to move WAY too quickly and then other sections that dragged or didn’t need to be there at all. For example, the section where Martin shows Casey that he can dance, it served no purpose except to be another secret for Martin to reveal. Or the first trial that Martin and Casey had to go to with the Avian council could have been entirely skipped, with Leon coming up with the bonding idea to begin with, and the story would have still made sense. Cutting out scenes like that would have then left more space for scenes that seemed hurried. For example when Casey finds out about Martin being Avian, he accepts it FAR too quickly to be realistic and the resolution with Matthew Yates, the Avian causing all the mess with the virus, took less than a chapter. He kidnaps Martin and all it takes is Martin talking to him for a few minutes before Matthew agrees to just leave and never bother them again? Though the way it was written makes it sound like Matthew will reappear in a future book in the series, it was still a very unsatisfying solution; especially considering Martin is usually always about going off-book and causing destruction.

The very end of the book, where Leon tells the entire council that he accepts Casey as part of his family, is also very strange and feels kind of out of place, as though something was supposed to be after it but was cut out. He mentions something called roost privilege and how Casey isn’t aware of the standing of the Bishop family in Avian society and dismisses both saying “Martin will explain it later” but as that's the last chapter, there's no explanation of either. He also generally makes a big scene about accepting Casey into the family… even though the bonding was his idea in the first place?

Overall, as I said, I really liked this book a lot more than I thought I was going to. I’m not generally into erotic romance (which I think this book should definitely be marked as) but this one has just enough heartwarming, and heart wrenching, moments to keep the reader interested throughout!

“I need you to believe that I’m strong enough to handle it. And in return, I’ll tell you that I can’t live without you, because that’s the truth, and you deserve that.”

A Joyfully Jay review.

1.5 stars

There is an idea in writing called “Chekhov’s gun.” It stems from several quotes written in private letters by the master Russian playwright Anton Chekhov. In simple terms, Chekhov means that if an aspect of a story isn’t needed, cut it. And if you leave it in, you’d better be prepared to do something with it, i.e. don’t bring a gun on stage unless you’re prepared to fire it. Fallen For You is filled with so many metaphorically unused guns I almost don’t know where to start. There are mysteries that never go anywhere, a mated bonding whose properties seem to change nearly every page, and crisis after crisis that is resolved within paragraphs. In short, Fallen For You is something of a mess.

The concept is a good one and intrigued me right away. Casey and Martin are secret agents who have worked together for years, but never acted on their mutual attraction. And when Martin reveals his wings, Casey’s acceptance is sweet and wonderfully loyal. This all happens in the first couple chapters, but after that things fall apart.

We’re told the Avian race is incredibly rare, but they have no problem passing a death sentence on Martin for accidentally exposing his wings. So even though they’re super rare, they can still afford to just slaughter one of their own for a minor transgression. Once the sentence is passed, Casey seems strangely unbothered by the fact they’ve decided to kill him. As if death by bird people is an everyday occurrence for him. More likely he realizes, as readers quickly do, there are absolutely no stakes in this book. Problems are resolved with stunning swiftness and even moments of temporary tension are brushed aside with ridiculous casualness.

I really don‘t like giving bad ratings and reviews, but in this case I have no other choice.

I got this book from NetGalley in July, 2018… but I MANAGED to finish it only in March, 2019. I never quit any books, so I literally tortured myself with this book, because I wanted to finish it. Every time I planned to read few more pages, I was like: “Come on, Dorian, read few more pages, move forward, so you will get closer to the ending”. FINALLY IT’S OVER!

What made me to write such a bad review? EVERYTHING. It was beyond boredom. There was almost no history of this Avian society, no stories of characters or basically almost no details about these creatures: how long they live, where do they come from, are they immortal and etc. A lack of characters. A lack of environment description. And WHY on Earth this book is listed as BDSM? THERE IS NO BDSM in this book. It’s like the author NEVER saw WHAT IS REAL BDSM. *facepalm* Even 50 Shades of Grey has more BDSM elements than this book. Sex scenes were not causing me any feelings. As we say in Lithuania: it’s a “dry” writing. It seemed this book is unfinished and the author could work much more on it.

And so that’s it. I want to forget I read it and move on. I truly hate to write bad reviews, but I must be honest. To say truth… I expect a lot from this book, but it greatly disappointed me…

I can’t wait for the next book in this series! I loved Martin and Casey. I loved the fact that the story starts off with them being close friends and work partners. When they finally decide to move that friendship to more, they burned up the pages. So hot! I liked seeing them doing some investigations. When the bad things happened, how Casey was willing to scrafice himself to help Leon and Alissa brought tears to my eyes. I’m wondering what will become of Martin’s negotiation with the bad guy. Was it a ruse to be set free or will he do what he said he would. Anyway, Ms Dee you need to write faster so we can more of this world.

I received a copy of this book to read and review. It was kindly sent to my through NetGalley by NineStar Press.
The opinions below are all mine.

First thoughts right after finishing the book:
Wow! Just wow! I am so in love and am such an mess right now that I cannot express my feelings properly.

Martin and Casey, two main characters, colleagues in the British Secret Service, best friends. One day work circumstances lead Martin to unveil a secret about himself to Casey and that is when the real story begins.

As I was reading the first few pages everything seemed nice about the story. However, as Martin's secret was unveiled, let me tell you, I did not see it coming. I was pleasantly surprised. There wasn't any mentioning of the fantasy genre on Goodreads though which is an important factor.

As the story unfold, I liked that there were many different events, new characters and a new relationship that developed between Martin and Casey. Their moments together were written very well.
I appreciated that there were many hot moments, funny bickering which made me laugh out loud, and lots of drama where I almost cried. I wasn't bored for a single moment while reading this book.
Another important thing to me was the brotherly relationship between Martin and Leon that was so powerful and developed amazingly throughout the book.

The whole idea for this book is so good that it made me want more and to find out more.
This new world of the Avians, the wings, it is all so intimidating and honestly, I really would have appreciated it all more, if the events in this book were written more precisely and with more details. Such fast moving from one event to another is not really the best thing about the book. It would have been great to get to know the world of the Avians better. There is so sooo much more for the author to write about how the Avians were born, why are they a secret society, who made their rules etc etc.

And in the end many questions were left unanswered. Why?! Whyyyy??
I felt like there's a missing chapter or something because it wasn't very clear what was happening and why.

These are my messy thoughts right after I finished reading 'Fall for you'. Sorry for not being able to structure them better.

Review Tagline: A distinct paranormal romance filled with action and intrigue that takes place across Britain.

My Thoughts: Fallen for You is an enjoyable paranormal novel, set in modern day Britain. I loved the two main characters Martin and Casey, they were each such unique characters who not only made me smile but had great chemistry. These two, coupled with the incredible world building had me racing through the book in a day.

The world building by Dee is amazing and the way in which we are slowly given information about the larger issues at play, is great! I can’t go into too much detail without giving away a major spoiler emitted from the blurb, but Dee has created a rich and wide-ranging hidden society.

Once again, I can’t go into too much detail without giving away spoilers but there is an explicit scene in the book which really made me fall in love. The two characters have a moment where, during and after, they laugh with each other and acknowledge that things aren’t like what you see in the movies. I absolutely loved this candour and acknowledgement (dare I say fourth wall break) of romantic tropes and the almost ‘perfectness’ of each interaction. The fact that romantic leads, in a romance novel, have a non-perfect moment was incredibly refreshing and made it all the more ‘real’ for me.

Fallen for You is entertaining, action packed, and offers an in-depth and distinctive paranormal world. Dee’s writing style is immersive and I really enjoyed the story she weaved, I will definitely be on the lookout for more of her work!

Best Bits:

Leon and Jared
– Initially Leon was such an aloof and distant character, but over the course of the novel, I fell in love. The relationship between Leon and Jared was a small subplot of the novel but it was really nice and a sweet side note.

The Royalty – It was a small feature of the story, but boy did it make me smile. It may seem out of context but the story about King Edward and Teddy Roosevelt made me laugh.

That cover! – It has been my experience that Nine Star Press have truly amazing covers! After browsing their site, I haven’t found one that I don’t like – they’re just so striking and amazing. The cover of Fallen for You is no exception, I love Big Ben in the background and the details surrounding it, encapsulates the plot so well!

Favourite Quote:

'...I remember that these were the tipping point. The point at which we stopped being you and me, and became us.'

Recommendations: I would really recommend Fallen for You if you are looking for an engaging and different paranormal read. The fact that the book also has a sweet romance filled with moments of action and adventure don’t hurt either.

Please note: I received a copy of Fallen for You from NetGalley.

This had such potential. When I first read it I thought it was a story about angels. It isn't THANK THE BOOK GODS. I would have put it down immediately. It was an AVIAN shifter-esque story. Which I was absolutely thrilled about because the only one I know of so far is the series by Kim Dare and that is more anthromorphic than this one.

Anyways. This story is like a mesh of Kim Dare's Avian Shifter series and Abi Roux's Cut & Run a little bit, just much tamer. This book had way too much going on for how short it was. I understood the story right up until the wings came into play. I get secret societies, but the rest made absolutely no sense. It went from it being a secret society type thing, to a national security thing on the human level because of the secret society, and then to something else.

Casey and Martin's relationship I did not have a problem with. It's differently developed with characters who have an established close relationship at the beginning of the story. However once the big secret was revealed the world of the avians was just poorly woven into the story. It seemed like it was there just to be interesting, not that it was supposed to be part of the actual character plot.

This was literally an entire series jammed into near 300 pages of inconsistency and confusion. While I didn't have many issues with Casey and Martin, aside from some shallow and cheesy bits, it really was the rest of it that got me like Martin being a shifter. How that influenced their relationship worked for me for a while, but once they got in trouble, it just didn't seem to flow very well or make a whole bunch of sense. I think that is the issue that I have in trying to write this, is that I don't know what happened after a certain point, so I can't accurately point out the parts that I didn't like because I didn't understand what I read.

I highly recommend another book or a reboot of the series because I love avian shifters and no one writes about them because everyone really only knows how to write wolf behavior because its so basic and easily identifiable. Just definitely work on the writing.

***Just like to say this is my review based on the Netgalley blurb, which TOTALLY does not have the same information as the blurb that's posted here on Goodreads.

Well, WOW. This book did not go in any type of direction that I was expecting; after I finished it, I even went back to read the blurb again, to see if I missed something.

Originally I thought Martin's secret would be that he was a spy, something to do with their jobs in the British Secret Service...what Martin is hiding is something extraordinary, something paranormal.

Before I knew it, I wasn't just reading a story about two Secret Service agents, I was also back on familiar territory in reading a novel that had some more fantasy-type elements.

At its core, Fallen For You is a story about two men finally acknowledging their feelings for one another and having to defeat seemingly overwhelming circumstances to keep each other. It's just set in a bit more of an...unconventional...community setting. I wish I could be less vague, but I really don't want to spoil any type of secret here, so others can experience their own surprise.

I didn't really mind the surprise, but the blurb may be disappointing to some readers who are expecting some kind of Secret Service/spy/action story.

ANYWAY, Martin and Casey are both interesting enough, and we do get a little bit of development of each. I would've liked to learn more about their backstories, especially Casey's because it seems like he's had an adventurous life. I thought it was sweet how easily they changed from being friends and work partners into some kind of romantic partnership, but I do suppose that's the nature of many smooth relationships- starting off with a foundation of friendship.

Generally speaking, I was entertained by Fallen for You. Again, not quite what I was expecting, but, trying to judge it for what it was, it was an interesting story. I'd really like to know more about martin's natural community rather than the men's lives as Secret Service agents, and if that was the angle of a sequel, I feel pretty confident I'd check it out.

This is the tale of Martin and Casey, partners in the British secret service that have been (not so secretly) carrying a torch for each other for a long time. When Casey almost dies, he is miraculously saved by Martin but being saved only puts his life at more risk because Martin is forced to reveal the protected secret of his people. It becomes the two of them against the world while they fight to prove that they should be allowed to be with each other and be allowed to live.

While this story has romance, I would say that first and foremost, it is a comedy. A very British comedy, so if you love British humor and are a fan of light mystery romance then this is the book for you. I read a lot of British books so I don’t believe that my problems with the book were due to me not understanding the humor. I believe that it was the tone of the writing that I couldn’t connect with. I would describe it as a blasé tone which made it seem like the characters didn’t really care about what was happening. This left me feeling like the events didn’t have weight, which was reinforced by the conflict being wrapped up in such a tidy bow.

However, if you appreciate wingfic then this is THE book for you. There are all kinds of wings, each one unique and if a human dares to look upon them, they spontaneously orgasm. Its hilarious and fun and definitely something that will give you some good laughs. So despite me not loving this book, I would still recommend it to people that love wing fics, or British humor.

Martin and Casey are British secret agents. They come from different backgrounds but are extremely loyal to each other. They often get into issues because of Martin’s impulsivity. Casey tends to ground him. Through thick and thin, they have always been there for one another. Until the day when Casey almost dies. Martin is forced to reveal something about himself that had always been kept a secret.

I loved so much about this book, the characters and their banter included, that I hate to deduct stars. But my biggest problem with the book was the world-building and the way that the book was paced. There were times where it felt like it was action-packed with things occurring back to back. Then times where something would drag on for a bit until another thing would crop up. And there were so many aspects of the world that went unexplained.

There were many things I liked about Fallen For You. It had a brilliant premise, giving an intriguing twist on 'angels'. The characters had great potential, with their work offering some excellent plot possibilities. I also enjoyed the world building as it related to the Avian society--its laws and mythologies. However, it didn't 100% come together for me. The fact that the two leads were in the secret service had little impact on the plot; they could have been MET detectives and it would still have worked. Also, although I did get into their relationship later on, I found it jarring at first since they go from colleagues/friends to lovers with amazing speed, and during a big revelation of another kind. We are told they have liked each other for ages, but it's all hearsay. We don't get to see a gradual friends to lovers transition--it happens within a couple of chapters--and that made it hard to connect with the depth of their love/bond for the events that took place after the trial, about halfway through the story. Despite that, there were, as I said, plenty of things to enjoy, and this book will definitely appeal to readers who enjoy angel stories but are looking for something a little bit different. There is also good potential for continuing with these characters in further stories. For me, this was a 3-star read. I didn't dislike it, but there were a few things that, to my mind, didn't quite work as well as they could have.

I received this book as a free eBook ARC via NetGalley.

This had a very interesting story line. Martin and Casey are work partners, and Casey has had a crush on Martin for years but never acted on it because of work. Martin has also had feelings for Casey, but he pushed it away because of his secret-he's Avian! Martin saves Casey's life and exposes the secret putting their lives in danger. Together, they are able to figure out how to be a couple as well as how to navigate the avian world. I thought the direction the author took the story was really interesting and kept me invested throughout. The epilogue was awesome, but I wish we got a little more information. It left me curious about some things rather than answering all of the pieces. It would be cool if we got more adventures with Martin and Casey. I could see how our police type guys could have some excellent adventures. I'd also love to see more of Jared and Leon.

This was the first book that I've read by Jules Dee and I absolutely loved it!

It was unlike anything I've read before and was a perfect blend of M/M romance and Paranormal romance.

I love the fact that Martin's character and his species "the Avian" aren't angels but something completely different. I love reading something new where you find yourself fascinated with the goings on in the book and that is exactly what happened with Fallen for You.

The relationship between Casey and Martin is a friends to lovers or in this case they are partners for the British Secret Service and then turn into lovers. The suspense that was thrown in there kept me on the edge of my seat at the end.

And speaking of the ending I'm thoroughly intrigued what is going to happen next after that little hint at the end from Martin's brother Leon!

I received this book courtesy of Net Galley and Nine Star Press!
Fallen for you was a wonderful story of Martin and Casey who at the start where partners in the British secret service with maybe a little something more brewing underneath... then an accident a fall and then it is revealed that one of this dynamic duo is more than they seem...an Avian ( NOT an angel of any kind!) what follows is a wonderful journey of discovery Love and a bond unlike any other! I not only loved Casey and Matthew and almost every moment of their sweet and steamy romance but also the side characters and relationships! I Also loved the bond of family that this band formed and the picture of the power of love in all its forms that this story gave! Although this story took longer then I would have liked to get into once I did I couldn't put it down! Way to go Jules Dee! And another great read from Nine Star Press!

I was given an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Martin and Casey are partners and agents in the London Secret Service. On a mission, Casey is in peril and Martin risks everything to save him, but unwillingly creates even more life and death situations.

I loved this book. I loved the characters and the story line. I'm typically not huge on fantasy, but this was written so well and was very interesting. The flow was great. The only negative that I found was that with every mysterious problem, the solution was easy and immediate, leaving little suspense for the reader.

I'd definitely recommend this one.

Awesome read. Casey and Martin are a team you can't help but love. Their relationship felt natural and progressed realistically to me, friends for years then it turns to more later instead of a love at first sight situation. Don't want to give too much away for the plot but I liked this paranormal angle and was something I haven't read before. You get action, sexy moments that are too hot and add fun in the mix. Also side characters grab you and I hope there are more books in the future in this Universe. If you want a unique detailed world that will keep you guessing what could happen next this is for you. Can't wait for the next. This book was provided by the author via IndiGo Marketing & Design in exchange for an honest review.

I admit that I bought and started this one because it was written by a friend. So full disclosure there.

I ended up enjoying it very much, although I wasn't certain at first. We get to meet the protagonists in dire trouble right at the beginning and things proceed to get complicated from there.

This is not a "falling in love" book, but instead a book where the characters end up in a place where they have to admit to each other that they "fell" a while ago. That makes the title a good and appropriate one, being "fallen" in the past tense. It's about acknowledging it, making themselves vulnerable enough to say it out loud, and learning what happens next.

That was lovely.

I wasn't so sold on the paranormal legal consequences and trial part of the book, just because the laws being followed seemed a bit arbitrary and ridiculous and the solution a bit over the top. That said, I really loved how that solution played out between Casey and Martin, I just found the dealing with the council section of the book less to my taste.

After that, it also became a mystery story (combined with dealing with all those consequences) and I really loved that too. I'd be perfectly happy with a series of mundane mysteries being solved by our heroes.

Right at the end, we went back to the council. I was a bit concerned about that, but instead of harping about in the past, we were thrown a whole bunch of hints about the future and more paranormal surprises to come. And I found I loved that too. Now I want more books, so author, please keep right on writing.

Enjoyed this book a lot! A unique paranormal read that will have you engrossed from the start! Sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for the next chain of events. Martin and Casey are a team in the British Secret Service. Always getting into some kind of mess or leaving havoc behind. The Casey falls from a lift and Martin breaks his fall revealing wings on Martin's back and this is only their beginning involving a secret society, the Avians. Avian Law mandates that a human that has been exposed to them must die...And Martin knows that he cannot survive without his lover, Casey! A great story in the paranormal realm. Don't miss it!❤️❤️

Fallen For You
This was a great story that features a new race called Avian. These are a winged race that are not the same thing as angels. The author did great adding humor, love, and gut wrenching pain into this book. Although I would of been happy ending the book right after the bonding happen it continues with another story.

The characters are all very diverse and the man couple is furiatingly cute. The only thing that did bother me is the Avian laws and I wish there was a way to change them.

However still a great book that I would recommend!

Our two heroes are in the doghouse. The higher ups assigned them a task they are not thrilled with, but at least they are still working together. The POV switches are a little confusing bit the story moves briskly painting picture of men’s lives and their deep bond. They are loyal to each other. That’s why Casey is understandably surprised and hurt when it turns out his partner kept secrets from him. Now they are both in danger.

Honestly the whole paranormal aspect sounded far fetched to me (but I can’t logically explain why werewolves would be more believable) but the story mainly focuses on men’s relationship and its slow shifting from friendship to more. The missing jewelry plot is frankly thin but the storytelling makes up for it. The plot is disorganized in places and it could use tightening. It knocked down points from final rating. Despite this the story was interesting.

Think about it like a movie with plotholes: if you’re capable of enjoying it because of everything else, you’ll probably enjoy this book too. I did!

I received copy of this book in exchange for review.

Fallen for You' is a light and fairly enjoyable read, with romance, mystery/crime/danger and the added fantastical element of a secret society of winged beings (Avians) living concealed among humans. I enjoyed this book. It's no great example of highbrow literary accomplishment, but it's fun and written well enough to keep the reader's interest throughout. However.....I'm guessing that this story either began life as a work of fan fiction, or the author is hugely influenced by 'Sherlock'. Obviously this is merely one readers opinion, but the main characters and even some of their background information certainly fits. For example, Casey was a field medic in Afghanistan and was shot in the leg.... Leon Bishop is a replica of Mycroft Holmes and is in a relationship with DI Carrington (Lestrade)....... the overlay of different characters and situations is decently done though, so this really became an added layer of amusement rather than being an irritating issue.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for the advance copy of this novel in return for an honest review.
