Ambiguity by Tej Raval is sci-fi thriller which takes you to the future and gives a sneak peek about the scenario we might face if we keep exploiting mother nature.

The story is about a New York (Manhattan) based young man Frank Dawson who works for a business giant and gets stranded on an island when his plane crashes Midway.

The author has succeeded in presenting the bitter truth of Earth and it's inhabitants will be pushed towards Extinction in the most lucid manner possible.
The language used is simple and the conversations are meaning ful without any blunders.
The cover doesn't seem appealing enough to attract readers but the blurb seems to the point and gives a glimpse of what the book offers.

The narration is a bit quick paced maybe to match the explain the span of 3 decades Frank spends on the island but it seems a bit detached while reading.
The characters of the story seem real.

“Ambiguity” by Tej Raval is a Science Fiction novel that takes you on a ride in future. It’s a story of Frank Dawson who goes on a business trip to Africa with his boss, while his personal issues with his soon-to-be fiance were on hold. After spending two months away from the home continent, when he was returning to home, the readers witnessed a plane crash and suddenly our protagonist is on an unknown island without no one else around. He spent decades on that island, surviving with nothing but his will to see his girl again. Finally, he managed to escape the island and returned to his own world. But… when he came back… there’s interesting as to what happened next!

“An idea is contagious”- (Inception movie)

That’s what Tej, the author did in this novel. He proposed an idea, a perception about the environment. Being a student of the environmental studies, he did it in fact wonderfully. The description of nature and the scenes around it are done in so detail and in an impressive way. Though, I feel, this time period of Frank in woods/island could have been described in a bit detailed or some other better way. There’s a scope of improvement. The initial few pages of the book spotted a few avoidable grammar mistakes. Being a regular reader of literature, I noticed them, others might now. (Oh, by the way, it’s ‘Anyway’ not “Anyways”)

The characters are connecting and the narration is done smoothly. This book is just 110 pages long, and the language used is simple enough.

Certain one liner are thought provoking, as the book, and beautifully written, like this one-

Maybe that’s how life is supposed to be. You feel alive until you have something to think about, something to worry about and something to solve. (page-40)

The book title is meaningful n metaphorical sense, though the book cover could’ve been better as per the story.

About the environment, Tej has left the idea Ambiguous, to let the readers decide as to whether we are doing good about the environment or not.

The philosophical start of this book, the prologue and the way it’s written in a compact yet in a decipherable way, is quite commendable.

Kudos to the author for this brilliant start of his career. I’ll wait for his next one.

Frank Dawson, the protagonist of AMBIGUITY, is stuck on an island for straight 29 years without any information regarding his own whereabouts. He has no connection with the world he left behind before encountering an aircraft crash. His fiancé Olivia was the only family he had whom he loved dearly. Her obscure memories keep the desolated Frank alive on a marooned island for three decades. His reveries revolve around his Ollie and his fear of not being able to meet her again. The solitary life at an eerie island makes Frank wiser and enlightened. He is able to come to terms with his fate.

But one fine day, the sight of a wrecked boat grabs his attention and evokes in him the desire to get back to his world. The dismal environmental conditions on the island (which has become a home to Frank’s heart) makes it easier for him to embark on the journey to rediscover his place and meet his Ollie again. When he reaches there, he is appalled to witness the scenario. His land Manhattan is washed away long back. There are very few living creatures surviving with difficulty.

Will Frank be able to accept this change? Will he be able to meet his Olivia? Will he be able to find a way to deal with the world where mankind is at war with nature and the mankind is fated to be washed off the earth’s surface?

Review:
The author has written a crisp plot that hooks the reader. This story is evidence of his far-sightedness. He attacks at the detrimental impact on our Environment due to the negligence of humans, with this precisely crafted narrative. He explains how painful the end of the mankind will be if the whip of control is not used now. It is necessary to moderate our actions in order to bring the dangerous climatic conditions under the control or the change will turn into a catastrophic one destroying everything. If our series of actions do not alter, the future will drown in the gloom. We won’t be left with time. This is the high time we act judiciously.

The title is captivating and the cover of the book is equally intriguing. The content is also presented properly. Though there is always a scope for improvement. I would advise the author to improve his ability of storytelling to come up with a more attractive plotline.

This book is definitely meant to shake your mindset. Do read it!
