The Confession Duet

Rate this book
It was love at first sight. Not just for Vivian, but for Corbin as well. Their eyes locked across the room, and that was all she wrote. But they didn’t rush things. They wanted to do it right. After all, they would spend the rest of their lives together.

The love of each other’s life. Soul mates. He was the intense and fiercely protective soldier, and she was his doting and faithful lover.
They found their happily ever after. This was their story… until it wasn’t.

Ten years after Corbin divorced Vivian, after her confession while he was deployed, he still hasn’t spoken to the girl who brought him to life only to stab him in the heart, sending him into an even darker state than where he was before he met her.

Ten years, he’s been watching her from afar, keeping tabs. After an honorable discharge from the Army, he’s now part of a group of mercenaries who carry out justice. Criminals who hide behind their fancy lawyers and power—they take care of them and make it all look like karma. And with intel from their founder, Dr. Walker, a therapist with a long list of predators whose victims were too scared to turn them in, work is plenty and fulfilling.

Until Vi begins her sessions and Corbin discovers the reality he’s lived the past ten years was nothing but a lie, when the truth is revealed.

Let me tell you something about myself, I am a sucker for a good angsty and rough romance. This author caught my eye while I was scrolling through Tiktok, and let me tell you her advertising game is immaculate. It only took one video for me to be convinced I needed this book in my life.

This was presented as a lovers to enemies to lovers with hints of BDSM and it sounded wonderful, also it had soo many good reviews. I was expecting this to blow my mind but what I was not expecting is for this to be a mess of cliche troupes and grooming. The Confession Duet? More like The Cringe Duet.

Let me start of with the most disturbing thing: the grooming. The male character in the first part of the book has this very weird way of fetishizing and sexualizing a girl’s body where it feels very much like grooming (and it doesn’t matter that the female character is 18) and let me show you:

“She was the one causing this strange feeling inside me? She didn’t look a day over fifteen.”

“She’s so small, and young, and had been so nervous around me up front.”

“Freshman. Four years ago? But she looks so young. It could be because of her fresh face and her petite frame, but I didn’t think she could be any more than fifteen.”

“Knowing she’s so tiny makes it even funnier coming from her.”

Now that is very disturbing bc what is this obsession with her young age and petite body other than grooming? Honestly it made me feel so uncomfortable and I don’t know why this book hasn’t already been cancelled because it definitely deserves to be.

The next thing is the insta love, since the characters got together and fell in love in like two minutes. Maybe instead of filling your book with crappy cliche scenes and bad jokes you could use that energy to build a good and healthy romantic relationship between the characters.

The main characters are the usual type that you see in these kinds of books: the guy is the alpha male, handsome and popular who is instantly drawn to this awkward girl and would do anything to protect her; the girl is a bit of a geek, not popular and not well liked in school because of whatever stupid reason but secretly every guy is in love with her, innocent and a virgin who hasn’t even touched herself ever before (ookay?). In translation: douche perfect and a boring vanilla. It’s nothing that I haven’t seen a thousand times before.

I was literally skipping through part 1 because I wanted to see what the big secret was, and when I read it I was so disappointed. Honestly, I felt like it would’ve been better if it was anything else other than that.

The second part of the book, or the sequel, had a whole different vibe to it but it was written so badly and made me cringe so hard. I honestly couldn’t even finish it because it was so bad. What bothered me was how predictable everything was, but the thing that got me soo angry is how they filmed the girl while she had her therapist sessions and literally everyone would watch it. I’m not sure if she gave consent for that but it still felt so inhuman and terrible. This book was honestly painful to read.

Now my next and most important question is: How does this book have such high ratings? I understand that people have different opinions and tastes but did they read the same book that I did and did they not see the issues. Or is it just because the book has hot sex scenes that it shouldn’t be cancelled and you can get over the issues. I don’t know.

In conclusion, this is probably the worst book I’ve ever read, and believe me I’ve read some bad books. Also, this is my sign to never trust Goodreads reviews.

Despite disliking and avoiding BDSM themed books I gave this one a try because I saw it recommended somewhere for different tropes and it didn’t mention that it was basically all about that lifestyle but with some trauma/drama added in to make it even less palatable.

That being said, I didn’t rate it down because of the theme/plot but because it was beyond problematic and quite frankly disgusting. It read like some sort of trauma porn in places and in others it was like one the worst invasions of privacy I could fathom a woman going through.

She had been victimised and revictimised a lot through the plot of the book.

There is a therapist who is complicit in a big deceit being played on the heroine. He not only allowed her to be filmed while in therapy and gave those recordings to her ex husband who has been stalking her for 10 years but he also later put his hands on her because “she was having a panic attack”. He spanked her because he assessed her as a “submissive” and him spanking her without consent and while in a therapy session was for her “own good”.

As someone who has benefitted from therapy and who also believes in the importance of therapists being a vault, a safe space, a sounding board and someone who you can implicitly trust as a patient - it felt like a personal attack to read something so important being treated so casually and with so little regard for the profession or the boundaries that make patients seek that safe place.

Not to mention that after that, he disclosed important information about the heroine which she specifically told him she never told ANYONE - and he went ahead and shared it with ALL of the hero’s friends.

Her life, her trauma, her submissive thoughts and sexual needs were all discussed and no dignity and respect was ever awarded to the heroine.

I wanna purge this book from my memory.

TW: Stalking, R*pe

I very much dislike the themes of this book. I heard about it through tik Tok and was instantly intrigued as I usually enjoy books in the BDSM trope. However, this book had way too many red flags to actually enjoy it. Stalking is a serious issue with nearly 1.3 million people experiencing it yearly in the US, and this book romanticized the theme of stalking, and it’s 100% not okay.

The main character Vivian has zero personality, is an extremely weak character, and has so little personal growth in the entire second book it’s concerning. This book is also filled with unrealistic plots and cringy one-liners.

*slight spoilers and triggering content ahead*

Corbin himself is an extremely flawed and toxic character. After his wife is r*ped he immediately divorces her, and proceeds to stalk her for ten years (including following her everyone, breaking into her apartment, and installing spyware on her computer). When Vivian finds out she considers it “hot as fuck”. Not to mention when telling Vi, Corbin, basically victim blames Vi in saying he only stalked her because he knew something wasn’t right about how their relationship ended.

The author seemed to research a lot into bdsm, but very little into therapy sessions. This book is littered with HIPAA violations and concerning behaviors from a “licensed professional”. Also, when is a therapist putting his hands on a client ever acceptable or appropriate.

This book could’ve had so much potential if it didn’t include so many red flags.

Overall Review: 1.5/5

I found Robichaux on tiktok, and she is hilarious. Her books have a ton of great reviews. I read No Trespassing and it was cute and fun and spicy. I thought this would be great, knew the writing was good and bonus it is dark which is what I normally prefer. I *hated* it. There are trigger warnings, but they all seem to be about sexual assault. I had a hell of a time getting through part 1, he shows some disturbing grooming behaviors and even though she is 18 it is still gross. Then I thought I will stick with it, part 2 she will be a badass heroine and feed him his ass for what he did to her then HEA. Uh, no. Weak ass, meek, and pathetic is our main female character. The emotional and mental abuse that this chick goes through and she is *still* starry eyed for that man? Not my cup of tea. I am not giving up on this author, but I literally had to force myself to finish this and even then I skimmed the last 3 chapters. I hated the characters.

How does this book have such fantastic reviews?!? The characters are one-dimensional and truly unlikable, there's red flags (like his dismissal of his own rape by his baby sitter) and grooming galore, and if I have to read "baby girl" one more time I may scream. Don't read this unless you hate yourself.

OMG!!!!! I absolutely fell in love with Corbin and Vivian from the very beginning! When they first met I was instantly hooked! KD Robichaux writes in a way that sucks you into her story! I could feel the chemistry between Corbin and Vivian down to my bones! There were times I wanted to cry and times I literally cursed at my book because I thought Corbin was being a total idiot. I stayed awake long hours just to try and finish the duet because I just had to know what was going to happen next. The first book ends on a cliffhanger but I planned ahead and purchased book two so I wouldn't have to wait! This duet is more than worth it! If you love men who are protective sexy AF ALPHAS then you will FLOVE Corbin! READ THE CONFESSION DUET IT'S AWESOME!!!!

I feel like I’m 50/50 on if I liked this.. but I also didn’t dislike it... I’m honesty confused.

The first half was so cute. Vivian is 18 and Corbin is 20 when they meet. Their love story is beautiful and just makes your heart hurt at what you know comes next and breaks them apart for 10 years.

The second half.. not sure where to even begin. I have so many thoughts about how Corbin dealt with everything. Don’t get me wrong, Vi shouldn’t have lied, but he just proves why she felt she had to. Plus he doesn’t grovel.. idk, something about that whole thing bothers me. Vi deserved so much more in my opinion.

DNF Page 134

I’m sorry I just can’t anymore.

This is just really uncomfortable. I picked this up after seeing a TikTok (which I’m quickly learning is the worst way to get recommendations) and thought it was an adult book? But nope it’s between an 18 year old with ZERO experience and a twenty year old guy (who initially thought she looked 15 and was still kind of interested at that point).

I’m just at the point where it just feels really uncomfortable since the guy is 1) older 2) WAY more experienced 3) has a whole freaking job where he’s in a super high position and 4) has more money than her. There’s just too much imbalance. Also this guy was literally assaulted as a child and was just like “my 18 year d babysitter having sex with me when I was 14 wasn’t rape since no one got caught”. Officer. It’s this one. And IF THAT tragic backstory isn’t enough his ex literally died right next to him. Meanwhile, Ms. Virgin Mary takes a loooooooong time to understand his dirty jokes (which were just kind of immature) and talks about her bits like “down there”. No no no no no no.

The instalove might be a problem for some. But I think for me it could have worked if they were a bit more balanced. And it could have worked if they weren’t immediately obsessed with each other and just infatuated. But like I can’t figure out why he likes her? It can’t be her looks because he thought she looked 15 at first. And it can’t be her personality since her main personality trait is just liking rock climbing. Which makes it seem like the main reason he likes her is because she’s extremely innocent. And it’s giving “as soon as I deflower her, then I’m gonna drop her.”

And her mom?????????? Like I get her mom wanting her to daughter to get out there more. But there were so many red flags and she just kind of ignored them and was like “and nothing can go wrong”.

So it’s a no for me.

Duet, drama, romance and passion

I voluntarily chose to read and review this book at my request. The opinions in this review are my own. I am so glad to have finished this great duet. I loved the first story so much and I was waiting to read the conclusion. I love the characters in this duet by KD Robichaux. I really identified with the female lead Vivian. I felt so much emotion reading the second book. I laughed and I cried it was a wonderful mix of feelings. This book was Avery cathartic read for me in so many ways. The author has done a wonderful job dealing with these topics and researching things. I enjoyed these both very much. I recommend this duet to other readers to try.

I was gifted The Confession Duet: Box Set thru a Facebook post.

Before The Lie
This is a book that I wish didn't have a prologue. It's a great, seamless flowing story, but the back of my mind, I'm trying to figure out how the prologue fits in. I REALLY enjoyed the dedication of Vi to rock wall climbing. I was wishing there were YouTube videos to go along with the explanations! I fell in love with Corbin. A total alpha with respect! Vi and Corbin's story is amazing and then I understood how the prologue fit the story.

Truth Revealed
I was so ready for answers and solutions to Before The Lie. Truth Revealed was a surprise! Another shocking, amazing story! AND then there were so many answers! I'm in a bit of a book hangover!

I’m so excited to read the rest of the club Alias Series. If its anything like 1&2 I won’t be able to put them down.

After only seeing a small little bit of Confession Duet I knew I just had to read this and I I was not disappointed.

The Protectiveness of Corbin and the sweet sweet innocent Vivian, everything about this story and the writing was fantastic!!

~God knows we both have our flaws, but we seem to fit each other like jigsaw puzzle pieces.

Vi and Corbin’s story was fantastic I loved it. I was sucked in before I was even finished with the first chapter of Before The Lie. Thank goodness I was able to read Truth Revealed after I finished BTL because I don’t think I could’ve stood having to wait to read it. KD Robichaux has a unique gift of being able to weave her stories to the point that you feel like you’re right in the book experiencing everything right along with the characters. I went through every emotion possible while reading these books that’s how good KD is at writing her stories. If you haven’t read any of her books take my advice go read them because I can definitely guarantee you will not be disappointed at all.

Oh where to start.. I guess by saying that I loved everything about this duet! That doesn’t mean it was easy because it wasn’t but even the healing was great. Vi and Corbin have a love that was instant, intense and all consuming. They were opposites but perfect together and after the events that unfolded I honestly was starting to give up hope in an HEA, but KD wouldn’t be THAT cruel... I am so glad we got to be a part of the healing and unorthodox healing it was, but soooo amazing! This book hits all of my requirements when making a 5 star review; it has love, tragedy, every emotion imaginable, loss, regret, buckets of tears and finally the HEA I need! I can’t recommend this book enough!!

It's a great thing Vi loves rollercoasters because KD Robichaux takes us on one in The Confession Duet!

Corbin and Vi were beautiful and perfect in Before the Lie, with love at first sight and a whole lot of firsts. They took my emotions on a dizzying dance of instalove. Then IT happened and my heart broke. In Truth Revealed, they put it back together again.

This couple is so perfect together, 5 stars isn't enough for their swoony love. I loved meeting the Club Alias friends as well and can't wait for more of their stories!!

The Confession Duet by KD Robichaux

I was gifted a copy of this book set by the amazing KD Robichaux.. I loved this book soooo much!! Vi & Corbin we’re perfect ❤️ .
The prologue got me.. hook line & sinker... but I was scared..so very scared!!

Vi found the love of her life... and that life was perfect until that one night when it wasn’t..

As I said I LOVED this book but it broke my heart with what Vi went thru and the hurt it caused her & Corbin, but that ending.. WOW!!!!

I loved the side characters.. I can’t wait for Seven & I hope we get a book on Brian!!

Thank you Kayla!! ❤️

5 Stars! Good grief...the first book in this duet started off with me freaking out and ended the same way...lol The pages in between sucked me into an instalove fairytale that was so perfectly sweet my teeth ached. Book two was more welcome to the dark side! This book had me gripping my seat in agony and desperation because of the angst, drama, and heartache as well as clinching my thighs because hello...BDSM and sexy times are hella hot!

Here is me.. innocent little me.. walking into this book thinking it would be a cute love at first sight, military romance, second chance romance, with some old good spice … ahem.. NO!

He literally told her that the best thing in her body was the fact she would not be able to fight him if he wanted to have his way with her.. gurl run for the hills what are you doing??

This is just a glimpse of how this book romanticized toxic relationships.. believe me it got wayyy worse.. (he stalked her for 10 years, stalked her sessions with her therapist, lied to her face for weeks, and all the author was able to come up with in order to solve the conflict was to -of course- make the FMC think that it’s ok and that’s actually “hot” , ummm, how about he apologize?)

This book was promoted as “REALISTIC” mind you! Just because the MMC knew how to differentiate between three types of floggers ..

*3.5 stars*

Great book, super angsty and I loved how their love story began.

However, 3.5 stars because we didn't get to see much of their married life before they divorced and when they finally get together (after 10 freaking years *sigh* 😤) we got one glossed over scene where he asks to marry him again and he wants babies with her. The end. Seriously? The spark was completely gone. They felt like strangers to me.

My favourite part about this book was the focus on how BDSM healed her trauma. This book is heavily researched and it even helped me understand why I have the need to be controlled and protected. So, in a way I was healed alongside the heroine. More authors need to research D/s relationships before they cheapen this dynamic in a lousy romance book.

This was a totally new to me author, but the blurb captured my interest and I decided to give it a go. I have got to say that this book left me seriously conflicted. I didn't hate it and I didn't love it, but I admit that certain aspects really did not set well with me. As someone that enjoys dark romance and BDSM, and super twisty reads, I'm truly surprised at how off-putting I found this book. I did think the writing was solid and I think the story itself had plenty of potential. For me though the details and the characters were kind of the problem. My heart did ache for Vi, but Corbin was a complete wash as far as I was concerned. There is some excellent steam here and I did enjoy that.
