Pretty Guilty

‘Gone but not forgotten.’

To her great displeasure, Coralie Reed has found new meaning in those words. She definitely hasn’t forgotten about Aaron Allen—how could she when he’s agitating her as a ghost just as much as when he was alive? He’s not really gone at all.

And that fact is going to end up causing more than a little trouble. It’ll do more than frighten Coralie. It’ll do more than frustrate her. It’ll do more than put a strain on the connection she has with the new guy she finds in her life.

What’s a girl gotta do to be able to live in peace?

This one has to face herself.

Coralie Reed, the protagonist of K. L. Cottrell’s paranormal romance novella, is haunted. This is not your average ghostly haunt, however; this ghost was obsessed with her when he was alive, being dead didn’t change his infatuation. Throughout the story, she battles with herself through Aaron, the ghost, about the immense guilt she feels over his death. She is convinced that she played no part in his murder, while he is a constant reminder that she is to blame. Coralie meets a boy who she falls head-over-heels for, who also feels compelled to get to know her. The two struggle to find a working relationship with a dead guy lurking around. In the end she realizes “being honest with yourself and other people is a very important part of being happy.” Cottrell did a phenomenal job portraying the inner guilt we feel when something horrible happens and we were the last person to see them alive. Aaron’s ghost represents the inner demons we face each and every day following a tragedy that our actions could have altered. We all have to hold ourselves accountable for our actions, take responsibility, and not beat ourselves up over what we could have done differently.

Mostly Ghostly??? Nah I read Pretty Guilty!

This was such a wonderful bite size romance. The contrast between Coralie and Will is wonderful and laughable. She’s so punk rock and he’s so…”golf at the country club but make it southern.” I think my favorite line from Will is where he’s talking about the fact that Coralie is really hard on the outside but sounds utterly feminine in the bedroom. Something about that just gets me GOING!! K.L. Cottrell has a way with words and her describing the ghost that haunts Coralie makes me wonder why I didn’t marry her myself. I could go on and on about the writing in the book but to not bore you….just …. BUY IT!!!

Quick and Compelling

My third read by this author has been my favorite so far. Although a novella, the story starts off strong with a thrilling first chapter and quickly dives right into the main plot. A woman is being tortured (figuratively) by a man she once dated but who was tragically killed. It wasn’t exactly a great relationship, and asked the story progresses. We find out more regarding what happened that night when the man was killed. A very solid piece of writing and a quick, easy read.

A perfectly beautiful story.
K.L. Cottrell has such an amazing way with words. Her characters instantly jump off the page and the story immediately draws you in. She makes it so easy to fall in love with her characters, to feel their joy and sadness as your own. This story is laden with life lessons and really tugs at the heartstrings. 10 stars!

This novella was so amazing. I really felt like I was Coralie. I could feel it when she was upset, sad, happy, and just plain weird. Will is one of my favorite characters and he is the guy that I wish we had more of in the world. He was there for Coralie through thick and thin and didn't care how much she tried to push him away; all it did was draw him closer in and as far as Aaron is concerned he is such a jerk. He was my least favorite character. All in all this novella is wonderful and this is the kind of read that can lead up to some nice healthy debates at the end of the day

I’m biased because I know and love the author BUT I’m not lying when I say that she did a dang good job with this novella. It’s short and sweet but it’s also extremely complex. I really enjoyed reading about Coralie’s feelings of inner guilt about the passing of Aaron as well as the changes to move forward. Loved it!

Engaging read!

Beautifully written story of the guilt we hold within ourselves even when it no longer serves us. The author did a fantastic job of creating a scenario of deep, suffocating regret that would twist anyone in knots. Very much recommended!
