54 days... The note is simple, baffling, and attached to a dagger. Iris is certain of only one the cryptic package is from Adelina deBlays, the Carving Witch. After Carina, Adelina’s sister, gives Iris a journal, she suspects Carina has her own secrets for entangling her in an already wicked snare of revenge. Iris senses the past recreating itself. With an escalating fear of losing everything again, Iris heaves herself into Adelina’s wicked game... a game that may lead her to the place where her nightmares began, and trusting the enemy may be her only option. ADELINA'S CURSE, the second installment of the Statues Trilogy, will take your breath away. It's filled with mystery, romance, loss, and discovery. Be prepared to read in one sitting!
Ainsley Shay avoids insanity by living mostly in the fiction world. She believes surrounding herself with positive people, and strives for balance in everything. She owns more jeans with rips and holes than without; and has recently found the magic of patches. For her, reading or writing the perfect sentence is better than the smoothest piece of dark chocolate melting in her mouth. She is a deltiologist for pure enjoyment, not for the study of. She longs to move north one day, even though she hates the cold. (Go figure!) So, for now, she continues to live in warm south Florida with her incredible husband, three beautiful daughters, and two lazy cats. (We won’t mention the dog.)
Having read book (Prison of Statues) I had to find out what happened next and I wasn't disappointed. You probably do need to have read book 1 to totally follow this story but you won't be disappointed purchasing this set of books.
I cried at several points in this book, often had no idea what was going to happen next and was enthralled from start to finish. The twists and turns of the plot are amazing and keep you on the edge of your seat. I couldn't turn the pages quickly enough to find out what else was going to happen or be discovered.
We find out more about The Carving Witch in this book, are introduced to a new character and learn more about some of the main characters from book 1. Again all the characters are extremely well written and fully developed. Whilst Iris did irritate me once or twice, when I reminded myself that she isn't yet 18 then her actions were very understandable and normal for a girl that age. Whilst this could be considered a Young Adult novel it doesn't have that 'immature' feel to it. However it is a 'safe' read for any age (so far) as the romance is very gentle and clean.
I loved the interactions between the characters - they are so naturally written and totally believable. The dialogue is well written and the whole story flows easily. Again the pace is perfect AND steady. There were NO points where it felt like the author was linking half thought through ideas together. The ending wasn't rushed either, it felt very naturally arrived at.
The author has woven fantasy and 'reality' so well together in this tale that it doesn't seem strange or unnatural to be talking about immortal beings and witches. Usually I like my fantasy to be set in those imaginary worlds that are full of castles, swords and sorcery but I have really enjoyed reading this series based in the modern world.
I can not recommend this book enough, other than to say that I will not only read the final book but will be reading more books by this author.
OH my! Ainsley did it again! Fab book 2! Can't wait to get my hands on book 3! I can already tell that after I read book 3 I will more than likely be sad for as of now the series ends there..
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Wow again! I loved it, book two is just as good as book one and again I couldn't put it down. One thing I will point out is if you haven't read book one Prison of Statues then I would advise you to do so as book two does carries on the story where book one left off so if you haven't read book one you will have missed out on so much of the story and how the characters have developed and where they are now especially how Iris is part of this story. Whilst Iris is visiting her dad's grave she spots someone in the distance watching her, eventually she goes over to ask what the person is doing but as she get closer the person funs off leaving something on the ground. Iris picks it up and finds a strange note saying 54 days and is signed CW is wrapped around a cloth covered dagger, which really alarms and confuses Iris, one thing she is certain of is the CW stands for Carving Witch. Iris also receives a letter delivered to mr Yves bookstore which is sealed with a wax seal Lord Darenfy's seal, which delivers her more terror and makes Blacwin leave to travel to Lord Darenfy's castle in Skeldale leaving Iris in Chandlers care. Chandler is on her case 24/7 and Iris get snappy as she feels as though she is in prison, she then gets contacted by Carina - Adelina Deblays sister and Iris know she won't contact her whilst Chandler is around so she negotiates a 2hr break everyday where Chandler leaves her alone and Iris drags in her best friend Snow to help and they visit Adelina Statue filled house where another clue is left this time Adelinas first diary, which tell how she became the Carving Witch and and gives away other secrets, Iris soon learns Carina has her own selfish reason for wanting Iris to succeed - I'm not going to tell you any more as I hate reviews that give away too much of the story
Oh. I have no words. Awesome is not the correct word to use to describe this book. Goodness. U go on this journey with Iris... Chandler, Blackwin. Then there is Mr Yves & Snow. Adelina and her sister Carina. Will iris get through this madness of dreams and Adelina’s curse? Will she loose more loved ones and can she break the curse. Very well written book. A page turner u cannot put down. U just have to continue reading to see what happens next. Irises journey becomes your journey. U feel every emotion she is feeling as if u are with her in the book. There is fear, mystery, shock. Some Humor and a lot of nail biting parts u do not want to miss. This is definitely a book u have to have in your collection. A must read. I cannot wait to lay my eyes on part 3.
I'm speechless in all the best ways. It was so good I just can't find the right words to say how much I loved it. Like the previous book, Iris is racing against time as the present lines up with the past in order to discover what Adelina has in store for her before it's too late. The heavy paranormal aspects of the first book take a step back in this installment and focuses more on the relationships between the main characters - showing us more how they've come to be the people they are now. My only complaint is where we're left at the end of the book; I really wanted it to keep going. It's the perfect set-up for number three, and I am anxiously awaiting it's release. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book.
