Are you ready to be human?Human. God. Two words that jar against each other and yet describe Jesus perfectly. Jesus was fully human and fully divine, which is extraordinary. But He was also ordinary in the most counterintuitive His life shows us what normal humanity is supposed to look like. Jesus came to earth to redeem humanity itself, and through Him, that redeemed humanity is available to us all.In Sneezing Jesus, Brian Hardin journeys through vivid Gospel stories, pointing to a revolutionary If Jesus was a normal human living a normal human life, then His death and resurrection didn’t just save our souls—it saves our humanity here and now.
We sneeze; we infect. This book presents the essential question: Are we infecting others around us with Jesus? I listen to the author's daily scripture reading podcast as I drive to work. His theology is sound and rooted in God's Word. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to think about what Christians believe and why we believe it, and to those who personally want to live out their beliefs.
Since, I read the book while COVID 19 was full on, please don't let the title not pick up the book. The metaphor of "sneezing" has to do with the positive sense of "contagious". I know of at least one other book that is titled "contagious Christian".
The author does have an excellent story-telling style. I would recommend that audiobook, read by the author himself makes even more sense. I did hear the audio. Yet, I believe that other times you might want to look at the rich imagery that he has.
If you want a practicum of narrative preaching, this is it.
Brian Hardin provides the personal, down-to-earth connection to the Divine by pouring his heart and his words to his devotion to Christ. His journey is our journey. Nothing pretentious or high and mighty. No insistence on tired dogma. Brian is bringing Christ to your house, inside your door and to your heart.
While I didn't dislike the book, it didn't do much for me either. I probably wouldn't have even picked up the book if my bible study group hadn't suggested it for our study. Everyone else in the group seems to echo the other reviews for this book. I'm very glad that this book resonates with so many people. For me, it felt like the author was talking to new believers or young adults. Like cliff notes of the bible, it felt to me that he only scratched the surface of the qualities of being a Christian. Each chapter could have been a book that the author could dive much deeper into. I do like that he ends the book with a sample devotional to encourage people to get to know God deeper and more personal. I mean, the book is just a happy feel good ending unless the reader responds by reading the Word and inviting God in every day.
What does it mean to be "fully human"? We often say that Jesus was able to walk on earth and "do what He did" because He was God. The truth? He was a man. He fully embraced humanity. When He lived on this earth, He showed us what it means to be "fully" human. Brian eloquently shows us how we are meant to live as God's image bearers in the earth. I would absolutely recommend this book for believers and skeptics alike. An excellent read!
Great read! Brian Hardin is a great story teller. He does a fantastic job of telling stories from the Bible then applying them to either his own real life stories or stories from others he has known or heard.
Fantastic insights on spreading the word like a viruses. Originally I have to admit I was turned off by the title. But after I actually read it I totally get what he means.
I would highly recommend for anyone who wants to strengthen their walk with Christ.
Brian Hardin is one of the best authors on the simplicity of the gospel I have read. His heart is revealed on each and every page. He ends each of his daily podcasts with "I'm Brian. I love you and I will be waiting here for you tomorrow," and he means it. Brian Hardin is one of my absolute favorite people.
Thank you Brian Hardin for reading to us your wonderfully written book. Thank you NavPress for allowing this. There has been no better time for this gift as it is now during this virus madness. I believe in my heart this was a gift from God. An opportunity to receive Jesus and live for Christ comes in many ways, THIS was an opportunity for such a time as this.
I listened to Brian read this during the COVID-19 crisis. And what a perfect book at a difficult time. I loved the stories that pointed to the truth. Jesus came to earth to redeem humanity. The church is called to spread that news. Sneezing Jesus is told in an exciting way. I loved every chapter, getting the lesson in an interesting and unique message.
This Book feels essential to my journey as a Christian. I have gained a ton of insight and plan to read it again and take notes. The author presents the information in a way that is very accessible to anyone no matter where they are on their journey. I highly recommend this book. Its scripture based and presented in a way that challenges a person, but is not judgmental.
Great read! Sometimes I struggle to focus with audiobooks, but not so in this case. Every chapter has interesting and funny stories from Brian that hit home profound points about the implications of Jesus' humanity. The last chapter was especially powerful and has perhaps forever influenced the way I think about my humanity and my Savior's example. Am I contagious with the love of Jesus?
Sneezing Jesus is a great book by the narrator of the Daily Audio Bible podcast that reads through the Bible each year. Since Hardin has done this for 14 years, he is very familiar with the scriptures and this is shown in his writing. Sneezing Jesus follows the life of Christ with keen insights into the lessons we can learn from his life and exhorts us to follow his example.
Profound with reflection of what humanity is supposed to look like through the eyes of Jesus. As believers with Christ living in us we become humanity as designed to transform the subhumans we have become . A must for those who want to consider what we are intended to look like
In depth look at the humanity of Jesus. While most Christians intellectually affirm this truth, this book describes and illustrates it from well known bible stories.
I was captivated at what Brian was able to do in putting myself in the story and live as Jesus saw His world over and over again. Couldn't really put it down. Great read! Thanks..
I just finished this audiobook and I highly recommend it. It’s a thought-provoking telling of Jesus’s life and teachings leading up to His execution. The story is beautifully written and the narration (which is done by the author) is phenomenal — Brian Hardin is an amazing storyteller! Christian or not, this book will have your wheels turning.
