Harper Burns was just abducted from her house by four big, bad shifters. When she finds out her father traded her for his life to a wolf king, she's ready to escape. Even more confusing is the fact Sebastian tells her she must have his baby. The craziest part is she's actually considering it. Clearly, she lost her mind on the car ride to the castle. Sebastian Roarhart is shifter royalty. He's been cursed and needs to have a child or die. Now, he has to convince Harper to see him as more than some man holding her hostage. He needs her to fall for him. But it's harder than he realizes when someone in his castle keeps trying to kill her. Sebastian has secrets he's keeping to save Harper from heartache. Harper knows one thing for sure: she can't let him die. Not when he's the first man in her life to show her how special she is. Time's running out. When truths come to light about her family and past, only the man she's come to love will be able to keep her safe.

The heroine:Harper Burns - she worked from home, updating web sites. Her father sent a letter, wanting her help. She didn’t quite know what to do since he was never much of a father and usually only wanted help in the form of money. When three large men come to her house and tell her that she needs to come with them.
The Hero:Sebastian Roarhart - he was shifter royalty. He met Harper once, at a prom which he attended as a chaperone for his sister. His parents died soon after and he ended up scarred. A fire, caused by his father’s worst enemy and the witch he was sleeping with. They placed a curse on the firstborn, saying he would die by his 35th birthday if he didn’t have a child by his fated mate. He knew Harper was his mate, he hadn’t wanted her to have a monster as a mate, so took time to heal.
The Story: The three guys that came to Harper’s house were strange and one had something happen to his face which made him look animalistic. They were shifters. She knew she was screwed and went with them. She didn’t know yet, but her father owed Sebastian millions of dollars and in order to keep him alive, she would need to give Sebastian a baby.
The story could have been more interesting, there wasn’t much of a side storyline other than the fact that Sebastian tried to get to know Harper better so that she would agree to have his baby. There was a bit about someone trying to kill her but that was pretty minor and obvious.
This book is told in dual points of view via solo narration and was narrated by Patrick Zeller. Patrick has a very deep voice, which I like. He sounded cultured which went well with the character. Though I like dual or duet narration better, I did like his voice.
-It’s a Kindle Unlimited rental, so saves me some scratch -This trope always reels me in. I liked Beauty & the Beast setups, every time and give me shifters and I’m in heaven. -The execution just lacks some spark. There’s alot of time spent explaining their feelings (repetitively) in their own heads, instead of much interaction. It was just fell flat for me. -The characters are standard. The hero’s scars really don’t factor much into his personality, the heroine is pretty bland (and I’m used to Ms. Taiden’s heroines having some sass to them). The secondary characters are even less memorable and the villain is just EV-ILL for the sake of evilness. -The conclusion of the story is pretty much what you expect. There are no surprises in this story, and everything is telegraphed a mile away. -The sex didn’t hold my interest. Even the sex didn’t work for me because I just couldn’t get into the characters.
I tried, but it just didn’t work for me. I needed either the sex to be hotter or the characters to be stronger, and it just didn’t click. I keep trying with Ms. Taiden because I do love shifter romances, she’s Latina and I love supporting my peeps and when it clicks I do enjoy her stories. This is just not one of them. However, if you’re into this particular trope (Beauty and the Beast aka Stockholm Syndrome), you may enjoy this more than I did.
Exciting romance novella that stands to be fleshed out. The plot and characters had lots of potential but the book was so short that chunks of story felt like they were missing.
Listened to the audiobook. While the narrator did a good job, I prefer when female POvs are narrated by women but thats just me. The main problem with the audiobook was the volume. It was hard to listen to because it would dip then rise.
‘The Wolf’s Royal Baby‘ has a sexy new cover, is the beginning story in the ‘Marked & Mated‘ series – but you might have already read this one because when it originally was published it was part of the Howls Romance line and was the first story in the ‘Fairytale Wolves‘ series. I mention this upfront because I, personally, get really annoyed to discover that I’ve already read or owned a previously published title. Those facts do not change the electrifying story within the covers, just an FYI.
Sebastian’s and Harper’s story is intense, full of sizzling chemistry and sexy times. It’s also intriguing as we learn of Sebastian’s family’s history and Harper’s father’s part in that cruelty. Actually, everything you’d really need to know before picking up this story can be found in the Cover Description blurb. It’s sexy, flirty, dangerous, filled with unexpected surprises, and completely entertaining. I had such a good time with this couple, and if you love a really good, sexy Shifter Romance then you’ll want to dive into ‘The Wolf’s Royal Baby‘… like right now.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
Fast paced and sexy! Harper has the worst dad in the world and thought he couldn't reach a worse status until she was taken from her home by shifters because her dad traded her life for his. She is taken to the King Sebastian Roarhart and is told he has to have his child or her father dies. Sebastian has waited for Harper since senior prom and now has to work fast due to a curse from a witch. He is using slightly underhanded tactics to get to him but he has to keep her safe from her slimy father. While she might be safe from her dad, she may not be safe from the danger within his house. Harper has a sense of connection and intense attraction towards Sebastian, she has always been level headed but something about him make her what to have his babies and figure the rest out later. Short and sweet, definitely something fun to read when you have a bit of free time and want to read something short without sacrificing the sexy.
I always say we cant choose our family, well biological family I should clarify that. Then you have Harper’s dad, oh he’s a piece of work and after the reality of it sets in Harper would be all too glad Be able to choose another father.
Now you see the King himself isn’t without some shady moves of his own, but in his defense he’s been watching *cough cough* stalking Harper since the High School prom. In some twisted way I’d say he wanted her and would have loved to get to know her.
But then fate as always throws their own spin on things and time is running out.
I do love Milly’s books The Wolf’s Royal Baby was fun and cute, it didn’t have the blow me away factor, even with the instant pants, swoons love. I found it a good read. The fast paced story with bits of this (hints of dark personality) a bit of that ( smexy smexy) wrapped up in a decent length between a short and novel. I volunteered to read and review this book. Enjoy
It's not bad. Fast paced and insta love with beauty and the beast theme all over. But frankly, I feel something missing in this book, it cannot ignited the excitement inside me. The climax is too ordinary, quite disappointing.
The characters are plain, I can't feel the depth of their personality. And the darkness inside Christian is too counterfeit. Don't get me wrong, I believe there's darkness inside human, but Christian darkness felt fake, too fake it can't touch my innermost feeling : ))
I really enjoyed this one! This book had a sort of twisted Beauty and the Beast feel to it. Harper was basically sold to Sebastian by her no good father. But! Sebastian knows who she is to him and when he FINALLY wins her over, it is sweet and sexy at the same time. There were some twists, nope no spoilers, that really surprised me. This is also a short read, well to me it was anyway, so it can be easily read in an afternoon.
I had this one in audio and it was a quick listen. Insta-attraction (sorta) meets Beauty and the Beast meets shifters. I pretty much gave up on paranormals in the last few years but since this was in audio I gave it a try and it was okay. There was an emotional spark lacking but it was pretty predictable. Harper is kidnapped and delivered to Sebastian who needs her to have his baby or he is going to die. Little does she know she was sold out by her father, the waste of breath, and someone is plotting to kill her. Will true love win out before her demise or Sebastian's?

I enjoyed this book with everything happening so fast in the relationship you didn't have the talks of what could happen and such I liked that things were surprising her and that she was dealing with the past to make room for the future. I hope this becomes a series of sorts.
I loved this, loved that it had that "Beauty & the Beast" theme to it. (just a little) Harper was cautious but also very attracted to Sebastian from the beginning. She saw through his scars, that he really was a great guy. She didn't care about her dad, but she still couldn't let anything happen to him so she agreed to Seb's plan. This shows that she is a caring person. I was not a fan of Deliah's, she is nasty. But she is only around sometimes. However, I do want to know more about her. I know that she is obsessed with Seb but to what extent.
I am never disappointed when I see a title by Milly Taiden. The ability to make readers connect with her characters makes her o e of the best shifter romance writers around. The two main characters were brilliant each with strength and needs and boy oh boy does she deliver with panty wetting sex scenes. So if you like a bit of steam with your paranormal romance then look up Millys author page.
Patrick Zeller narrated the audiobook, he is new to me, I liked his voice, sometimes the pacing was a bit fast for an audiobook but overall he did a good job. The editing was good as expected. As for the story, it felt a bit short, I was expecting more. Harper and Sebastian's story was interesting but the character build felt a bit young than expected, there are some plot holes, I enjoyed it overall but definitely expected more.
Harper is completely blindsided when she is abducted by 3 really big shifters after finding out her father, Christian is in a huge amount of debt. He's never been there for her unless he wants money. She's taken to another shifter who's big and sexy and a little broody. She is supposed to stay with him and give him a child or he'll die because of a curse. Problem is she's not so sure. I mean she was abducted after all so she's less than accommodating at first.
Sebastian knew Harper was his mate 8 years ago. She just turned 18 at her senior prom. He wanted to give her time because he was a little older. His time has run out to produce an heir or he dies. He wants Harper to want to be with him. He wants her to know him. He doesnt want her to think she's a prisoner. He wants his mate. Wants to love and protect her and give her everything she desires and happiness. Protect her from her bastard of a father. Will he succeed?
Bottom Line: Coming from Milly this was a bit disappointing. It didnt flow as well as her other books. Lacked depth in parts. This is part of the Howls Romance so I know its a little different and doesnt seem like her "normal". I think it was rushed at the end. We dont even know if Harper succeeds in getting pregnant until the Epilogue. I feel kinda cheated in a way with how it all unfolded at the end.
Her father killed his parents and left Seb scarred when he saved his sister and went back in to try to save their parents. Harper went to the same school as his sister, Sarai. She met H Harper when he escorted Sarai to her prom and knew immediately she was his mate. A decade later his security men kidnapped her and brought her to h I s castle. He told her he needed her to give him a child or he would die--and that her father had traded her for his life. She knew her father had done something awful, but.t Sebastian did not tell her what. She felt the connection with him, but being Humana did not know what it was. She is a wolf shifter king. They have their trials, but she comes to realize he is a good person and she loves him. Her father breaks out of captivity and threatens to kill her because she has been soiled by Sebastian. Sebastian comes into the room and her father tells her all the bad things he has done, which includes killing her mother and using the witch to put the curse on Sebastian that he must have a child before his 35th birthday or die. She breaks away from him and Seb kills him. Quite a story. Never disappointed by a Taiden book.
I'm not sure if it was the story or the narration or both here, but I just didn't feel it with this couple. I know they're supposed to be fated mates and all, so they should be the perfect match, but Harper and Sebastian just did not work for me. The funny thing is that if I'm going to like a kidnap/hostage forced proximity romance, it's usually one with fated mates. I guess it's because the characters are kind of at fate's mercy from the start, but even that didn't help this romance. From Harper and Sebastian's reactions to each other to their conversations to their steamy scenes, it all felt forced. There is some danger and a whodunit, but the bad guy is caricature-like and at the risk of giving a little something away, the bad guy's helper was doing them a favor? Umm... that's a mighty big favor. Then the ending was - well, it was out there. Patrick Zeller narrated this first in Milly Taiden's Marked and Mated series, and as I mentioned at the beginning, there were some things that fell short in the narration as well as the story. His voice is pleasant enough, but it was like he was reading me a story that even he wasn't feeling. I don't know, maybe it was a case of wrong book, wrong time, but in the end, The Wolf's Royal Baby had too many eye-rolling moments, and not enough chemistry to pull me in.
3 1/2 STARS This is the eleventh book in the Howls Romance series, each one is written by a different author and is a standalone, this one was written by Milly Taiden. Harper learned early on that she could never rely on her POS Father. She was only nine years old when her Mother died and her dad was more of a roommate than a paternal figure. Now that she's an adult she only hears from him when he needs to borrow money from her. She's a web designer so she works from home and one day there's a knock at her door and when she opens it three very large men are standing there. They tell her she must come with them and she tries to fight them but soon realizes they're shifters. Sebastian Roarhart is a wolf shifter, he first saw Harper eight years ago when he went to his sister, Sarai's prom with her. He knew immediately that Harper was his mate but he was 27 and she was only 18 so he just spent the evening talking to her. That same week his parents were killed in an explosion and he was badly scarred saving Sarai from the fire. I don't really understand why Sebastian waited so damn long to make a move on Harper. He stood by why she dated other men even losing her virginity to someone else. Also nothing like waiting till the last minute with the curse, he would've been screwed if she denied him.
I want to start by saying there is nothing really wrong with this novella. The author was going for a short werewolf paranormal romance story, and she accomplished that. However, the plot line didn’t really make sense. The hero of the story first met the heroine 8 years before the story takes place. Even though he know that she was his mate, he waited 8 years to kidnap her (it’s a beauty and the beast retelling). What can I say, I want my paranormal romances to make sense.
I’m also not sold on the narrator of the audiobook. The narration was fine, but I didn’t like that even though a lot of the story was in the heroines perspective, the narrator was a man. I prefer duel perspective romances to have two narrators.
My rating is 2.5 stars, rounded up to three stars.
I picked this up for the Farofeb readathon.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.
So while I loved the narrator for this book the story could use more. I’m not sure why Sebastien waited so long to claim Harper but leaving fate to the last minute is never a good idea!
Narration: Narrator saved this book! Very sexy voice! The inflection between voices was great and I enjoyed his growly voice.
What did I like? Well the story itself is all over the place. We start with a beauty and the beast tale. Beast needs baby to live cursed by a witch. Ideal was great but delivery was slow. The way the chapters ended though was weird. The next chapter picks up where previous chapter left off.
Would I recommend or buy? Would definitely listen to the narrator again... read from this author... maybe if something caught my eye. This was novella sized so maybe a more fleshed out book.
Thanks to Netgalley for the audiobook and voluntarily left this review.
The Wolf's Royal Baby (The Marked & Mated Series #1) by Milly Taiden Narrated by Patrick Zeller Publisher: OrangeSky Audio Genre: Romance Release Date: February 23, 2021
The Wolf's Royal Baby is the first book in The Marked & Mated Series by Milly Taiden. This is the first book I've read by the author and it will not be the last.
I really enjoyed this book. It felt like a re-imagining of Beauty and the Beast (which is one of my favorites) and felt really magical. This was fast paced and very steamy. There are shifters and a mystery so I am here for it!
The narration by Patrick Zeller was good. He gave life to the story.
Overall, I really enjoyed this novella. This is a quick read with a great story, awesome characters, shifters, and steamy romance!
I'm so grateful to Milly Taiden, OrangeSky Audio, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this ARC audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
This was a second/ last chance at romance kind of story. Sebastian is a wolf shifter. He is also royalty. He spotted his human mate when she was 18 years old. He tried to meet her later but was turned away. Time is running out and his life is literally on the line if he doesn't have a child before his next birthday. Harper is alone in the world except for her BFF Meghan. Her mother is gone, and her father is useless and a burden. So, it's a huge shock when she is abducted by shifters and is taken to Sebastian's home. Harper is asked the impossible. Her decision impacts the lives of others as well as her own future. What's a girl to do?
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book and was not compensated in any way.
Cursed by a witch, Sebastian, a shifter king, must find his mate and have a child before his 35th birthday. Harper is his mate. Convincing her to have his baby has Sebastian working overtime. Opinion I listened to the audiobook. The narrator has a strong sexy quality to his voice. I could listen to him read a dictionary all day long. The story is a retelling of beauty and the beast with a shifter twist. Since I love fairy tales, I requested this one and was not disappointed. Though this is a short book, it is a nice twist on a classic. To my knowledge, there are four more in the series. If they are anything like this one, they’ll be great books. Many thanks to Net Galley for providing me with an ARC of this audiobook.
My issue was the complete lack of originality, both with the plot and the writing. There were lines in this book that I've read word-for-word on other works. And the plot was one of those 'you can tell exactly how the book will pan out from the first chapter' AND completely done before. I've read other authors' takes on this exact plot.
Don't get me wrong, I realize nothing's original. At least if you're going to recycle someone else's plot, you should put your own spin on it somewhere with original characters, one-liners, something.
Very dull as well. This book was enough to turn me off Taiden, as it would seem she doesn't possess an original bone in her body.
Loved it. What a cute love story. Read it in a couple of hours. Christian was evil. The way he was able to pull three unsuspecting women, fool them and then kill them all. I don't know why Harper endured him for so long. It was obvious she never loved him. He certainly never cared for her. Harper and Sebastian were a cute couple. An enjoyable read. I highly recommend. I do have one issue. Delilah. What was her deal. Her attitude was never explained. Nor was she put in her place. I felt that Sarai should have set her straight, at the very least. In any event, an enjoyable read.
Werewolves, curses, murder and love this story has it all. Sebastian Roarhart is shifter royalty. He’s been cursed and needs to have a child or die. He has known since her high school prom that Harper Burns is his fated mate. Time is running short and Sebastian has no choice but to kidnap Harper and find a way to convince to have his child. He will try nice first but isn’t opposed to playing dirty. This is a fun sometimes silly, sometimes sad and always sexy story. It started a little slow but picked up speed quickly. Stick with it and you too will fall for Sebastian and Harper.
Harper is fuming when she finds out how much money her father owes. but that is nothing when 4 big bad shifters show up at her door to kidnap her. to take her to their king. when she finds out her father sold her to Sebastian she is upset that he could do that too her. but the more time she spends with him the more she finds herself falling in love with him. most of these books remind me of harlequin books so i do enjoy them.. not to long and usually have something happening to keep u in the book.
Well, it is late, and I am tired. I will keep this short. This is poorly written as far as plot and characterization are concerned. I felt like I was reading a junior high school creative writing assignment. The author made liberal use of the F-bomb, but not in a way that made any sense. It was just splashed throughout the story. The heroine came across as very young, though she is not, and the plot is very sparse and full of holes. Just not a good read for me.
The Wolf’s Royal Baby: A Howls Romance By Milly Taiden Kindle unlimited purchase This was a great spin of Beauty and the Best, which is one of my favorites. Sebastian has been curst he has to find his mate and have a child by his thirty-fifth birthday. One thing going for him is he has already met his mate. Harper's father, Christian, has never been there for her so it was no surprise that she was in the position she found herself. Kidnapped and told her father threw her under the bus to save himself.
