Rate this book
Liz Trammell is Silicon Valley's rising star. Her company, Babel, translates every language in real time, giving the whole earth the same words. Liz's fortune has grown with Babel's worth.

What could be impossible for her now? She sets out to build what her father never could—the tallest building the world has ever seen, a place where human potential is unlimited, where even death might be conquered.

As the world rallies around Liz's vision, global powers vie to get their hands on the conversations that Babel has recorded and locked away. Spies will kill for the data. Friends will betray for it. But when Liz finds herself falling for the only man she can trust, she must confront the enemies inside herself—the greatest challenge yet.

Gripping - I read The Babel Tower in just a few days, in every spare moment I could sneak away with the book. The story carries you along, sweeping in its scope with just enough futurism and dystopian aesthetic (part Thiel, part Atwood?) to make you think you're living in Liz and Jake's world of global (and spiritual) forces battling it out. If you like speculative fiction, it's almost that - until you see J.B. Simmons has in fact captured the world we already live in. It makes you realize: we are truly living in the future.

Great book by a tremendously talented author. Highly recommended.

Great story with a twist on the Biblical reference. I read this book for free as I am on the authors list to review prior to publishing. I have read several of his other books and this one did not fail to engage my imagination. There are several themes to this story relevant to todays society. Ambition does not fill the holes of lonliness in man's spirit. Pride is a dangerous character trait that can bring anyone to their knees, but grace born through Jesus Christ can overcome even the most egomaniacal in our world. If a sequal is written I will anxiously read it.

This was a fascinating read with great character development that resulted in characters who were very realistically motivated . The many twists and turns kept me interested and in suspense. The theme of pride and humility was threaded throughout the story and it was POWERFUL!! This theme is extremely timely in the context of the world in which we live today.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a book with depth and excitement.

I have read most of the author's books. His style is different, but good! I enjoyed the book. It took a bit to get into the storyline... I kept waiting for the thrust or the hook to help me put the pieces together in my head. I finally got it and then didn't want to put the book down. I'm happy to say I like the ending and don't need a Part 2 to finish it. Thank you for that!

Very enjoyable book. Although I thought the story was just a tad bit simple, nevertheless it was engaging and moved along at a great pace. Simmons is an outstanding storyteller who just happens to also be able to write well (yes, it's possible to be one without the other).

The story looks into the nature of betrayal and loyalty, as well as the sneaky nature of pride. With a romantic flavor, the book tells an interesting, imaginative, and intriguing story.

Highly recommend it.

Ridiculous Stories entertain you ?

They do me, and this is a whopper: Silicon Valley billions used to create a mammoth structure in the middle of Nebraska. Some religion, love story, international corporate espionage and you'll be praying for a happy ending.

I tell my family and friends that the technology in J.B. Simmons books will one day come true in real life, that if they want to know what the future will be like,to just read this book and his Unbound trilogy and they'll find out. In thinking up and writing about these technologies, he also through his storytelling warns about the implications they will have on society, like the lack of privacy just about wherever we go,whatever we do. I for one LOVE reading stories set in the future, dystopian or not, and I finished this book quickly and thoroughly enjoyed it,as I've enjoyed J.B. Simmons other works.
