This is no place to stop this story without a sequel . Excellent writing, terrifyingly close to what could /might take place. Very disappointed I'm unable to read what might be in the next book for Kate, her family, Boise, & Nick's attraction to her. Otherwise it would have been 5 stars.
It's pretty criminal that this series never properly continued to completion. I understand that things happen in life that can change plans but man.. what a missed opportunity.
Mr. McDonald delves into the world of post-apocalyptic....and does not disappoint.
After a frightening night and loss of power, Kate is left with only confusion and her precious children. As a parent, she will do all that she can to protect them and keep them safe from the outside world. Her humanity and intellect will be tested, her courage and determination challenged.
In true 'Murray McDonald' fashion, the reader will endure a roller coaster of emotion and be left in astonishment at the end. I hope there will be more to come and I highly recommend this book! Outstandingly well done!
I almost didn't want to continue reading this book after the first couple of chapters. The author painted such a bleak, gritty, probably realistic picture of life following an apocalyptical event that I was unnerved. However, I stayed with it and have to say it is the most engaging post apocalyptic/dystopian thriller I've ever read. The ending took such a Crazy Ivan that I almost laughed at the genius of it.
This book was about the most bleak book I have read in sometime. Then you meet these Guys who at first seem like saviors and, they do nothing. I kept waiting for a champion and it never materialized. In fact, the news becomes even more bleak. So, is that all there is? Many, many, many want to know. If it is, allow someone else to finish the story please!
Wow! I do not think I ever used that explitive in a book review here. This is not a new author, but this is a new genre for him. This book #1 and I loved it. Book #2 is being written and I will be in line when it comes out. (How does one "get in line" at Amazon?) Anyway I really enjoyed this book, even tho I found a couple of bad mistakes in it. Good book...
It is 1am I just finished this book. I couldn't put it down. You really hooked from the first word. It was well written. I'm looking forward to a sequel and hope it is soon. I'm really caught up with what is gong to happen next with Kate and her family.
The book was well written and professionally done. It had a well thought out plot and good character development. It's nice to see a strong "believable" women as the main character. Waiting for the next one...
Trial is the first post apocalyptic book in The Trial Series written by author Murray McDonald. This is not the usual for this genre. Quite a surprise ending.
I'm going to assume this is the first book of a series or I hate the author for such a bombshell, unresolved ending. What I liked about the book was that the main character was not a prepper with a lot of supplies on hand and did not have a magic bug-out location to go to. She and her kids had to stay in their home and try to survive somehow. The depiction of the brutal aftermath of a disaster on a small city was very stark and well told. I thought the people who caused the disaster was quite strange to almost being unbelievable but then it ends with an amazing revelation as to why. I really want to know what happens now so I do hope there is another book.
This is quiet the interesting story, mostly because it’s very likely to happen in a lot of ways described in this book. It’s well written and you get a real feel for the the characters and get invested in their ordeals. It makes you think and makes you see what humanity could do in such circumstances. A very good read and a definite recommend !
Good plot, good character development. The misuse of punctuation and grammar was too distracting for me to complete reading the work. Some of the misplaced punctuation, especially commas, could be put to better use where it is missing. Please let me edit your next book.
This was a different Apocalyptic book , which is always pleasant , especially when it is written well. I would have given it 5 stars, how ever the ending was abrupt and left too many unanswered questions.
Unlikable characters with undisciplined children, she is not a prepper and hates guns, is very opinionated and pretty much the bottom of the pack in every other emp book I’ve read. It was frustrating and cringe worthy to say the least, I couldn’t finish it.
Well constructed although much of the story line was stereotypical. It it totally believable that this an approach that our government would implement.
I have read a number of books in this genre. This is as good as any. Overall an enjoyable read. Will not give away an interesting plot twist. I will look at other writings from this author
Trials have good and bad outcomes. I had a feeling this was what was going on overall. I would have given a better score if there was some sort of closure with each of the individual stories that were involved but there wasn't, so this one of the poorer books I have read. Readers want to know or pretty much know how something is going to end. To get involved with a character and then not know what happens to them to me is not acceptable.
