Kula, the system of trade carried on by Trobriand Islanders, and the elaborate ceremonies surrounding it, was extensively studied by the renowned anthropologist, Bronislaw Malinowski. In honor of his centennary, the Lowie Museum (which has better than 50% of the more than 1500 artifacts Malinowski brought back from the Trobriands) organized a special exhibition. All of the illustrated artifacts--collected by Malinowski between 1914 and 1918--in this catalogue of the exhibition are fully described and pictured in very large, excellent photographs.
