USA Today bestselling author Emma Prince whisks readers away to another time and place with her steamy historical romances—where the passion is legendary, the adventure never ends, and the happily ever afters are guaranteed!
After several years as a college English instructor (where she savored her “fun books”—usually historical romances—on the side), Emma turned her love of page-turning, richly historical stories into a career. She lives in drizzly Seattle with her husband, their daughter (the wee lass) and a crazy cat named Oban (after the town in Scotland or the whisky made there, depending on who you ask).

The Promise of a Highlander by Emma Prince is one of those WOW stories. While #5, in this highly anticipated series, "Highland Bodyguards", it can be read as a stand alone. I would however, suggest reading #4, "Claimed by the Highlander" to get more on Logan's backstory, but not necessary, to thoughly enjoy "The Promise of a Highlander".
What a fast paced tale with a most enjoyable cast of characters. Well written with many twists and turns, secrets, passion, healing, danger and romance in a time of great Scottish turmoil, treacherous, intrigue and betrayal.
Logan Mackenzie, Helena and Logan's beloved sister, Mairin, are the stars in "The Promise of a Highlander", and what a cast they present. A heart warming, gut wrenching and delicious love story. Logan and Helena's story will take your breathe away, as you learn more of their troubled past, their secrets and watch their healing process. I absolutely loved this story! I was not disappointed in Logan's back story, nor has secrets and the hurt he carried, it helped make him the man he became.
Emma Prince has done it again! She never seizes to amaze me with her ability to tell a story and draw the reader into the story. Her characterization, her descriptions and her research of Scotland is magnificent. Another masterpiece! Highly recommended! ! Well done, indeed, Emma Prince!! I can't wait for the next installment.
Meh...Worst of the Series I was surprised this one got so many 5-star reviews. I liked it didn’t love it. It was one of the most boring in the series. Really not much happened and the things that did were so contrived. Another reviewer called it “faced paced” which is not how I would describe this one. I also find it hard to believe she managed to survive a 2-week journey from the borderlands to the highlands on foot by herself, in September. There is no way. I was disappointed by this effort from Prince it is very unlike her to leave so many opportunities for plot holes. Logan and Helena were fine as a couple but even their romance was kind of boring. His sister being constantly underfoot was a damper on the developing passion. Logan’s reason for fleeing his home 11 years ago didn’t make any sense. But, it is still well written and more unique than some of the Highland drivel out there. It was a diverting read. I have read every book published by Emma Prince, she is one of my favorite authors. She is consistent in her writing ability, usually earning 4-5 stars from me (this is her only book I gave less than 4stars). This is my least favorite of the Highland Bodyguard series. WARNING: there is sex in this book, it is not erotica, but enough to be a steamy & hot adult romance. Please do not read if you are looking for something PG. Romance-3/5 Steaminess-3/5 Explicitness-3/5
This was a pretty good book but there were times my interest lagged. I just think some things could have been edited because they felt like filler and some things we're repetitive.
I have liked Logan from the minute he liked Kirk's kill shot in the last book. I liked that he wasn't a follower and that he fights dirty. when the Bodyguard Corps made him give up his knives, I thought it was a loss to them because they were effective.
This story was absolutely captivating from beginning to end.. It's about love and honor.. Not only for the hero but for the heroine.. I look forward to the next book in this series and many more from Emma!!
Although his brothers in the Bodyguard Corps are suspicious of him, Logan MacKenzie is an honourable man who is really only a threat to himself and the past that haunts him. But when he meets the beautiful Helena, everything changes. He wants to be the best he can be, not only for himself, but for this kind, open hearted, spirited young Englishwoman, Lady Helena, whom he swears to protect. After having rescued his sister and Helena, can he rescue himself? Only time will tell as this emotional love story begins. Can Helena trust Logan with her terrifying secret, can he reveal his own, and will love conquer all, as the forces of darkness move against them, you will have to read it to find out. This is an absolutely beautiful book full of emotion, passion, angst and adventure. Completely compelling, I could not put it down and that is due to Emma Prince's incredibly descriptive writing. She has a way of pulling you in to her wonderful stories and then strapping you in and taking you on a journey you will never forget. I absolutely loved it! Edit Delete Permalink
Another captivating story by Emma Prince! Logan and Helena's story was everything and more of what I wanted for Logan. He was such a mystery in Kirk's story. He was also very intriguing. In Logan's story we learn the depths of his suffering. I loved how the author gradually revealed it to us. Pairing Helena with Logan was great! A strong woman who has lost much and in order to remain alive she must take her fate into her in hands. Badly bruised this English woman flees into the Highlands and almost dies, except a fierce Highlander finds her. He sets out to save her.
I also love how previous characters are incorporated into each new stories. I look forward to the next story in this series.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this story, because the last couple sort of fell short for me, but I truly enjoyed it! I am glad to finally get Logan's tale! I'm so glad that he found his sister, and I really enjoyed Helena.
I enjoyed learning about Logan's past, Maren's past, and meeting Helena. I loved how her people stood behind her. It felt like it took forever for anyone to come around to Logan, further making him an outcast. The bullying behavior made me grind my teeth, but I understand why it was necessary to the story.
I really have no notes. This was really good. I would read it again. I hope the momentum stays for the other stories I'm looking forward to: Niall and Will.

This is among the best Historical Romance novels that I have read. Emma Prince is a writer that makes you visualize the picture she is painting. This story is about a woman that flees her castle because of the evil man who has taken over threatens to burn her. She is found by our hero that takes her to his cabin and takes care of her. Many things happen and many secrets are revealed. All in all there is a happy ending ---except for the evil man. A very good story.
Book 5 is in keeping with 1, 2,3, and 4. Read them in order for the best reads. I have enjoyed them all. Logan and Helena have lots of problems and each find it difficult to trust. When they finally overcome their trust issues they are finding themselves in love and trying to regain her former castle for Robert the Bruce. Helena has the right and she helps the army of warriors regain her castle for the Scots. Edward II has completely abandoned the Border castles and Helena helps The Bruce's army to take back this castle. Read and enjoy.
Loved this one and was not surprised! I couldn't wait to get the paperback version and as soon as it came I read it! I loved reading how Logan and Helena's relationship came about and especially how Mairin came out of her shell after going through a horrific time in her life. Seeing Helena teach Mairin self defense to give her confidence back. This story had so many twist and turns you just did not want to put the book down. I highly recommend this book, along with the first 4 in the series!
Logan is not only honorable man but caring and fierce solider. His greedy half brother exile him to became laird. Logan never blamed him. When he heard his sister was abducted, he risked his own life to save her. He also saved heroine Helen. All good characters that I wanted to have in hero. Helen also very gentle and caring about others. She helped Logan sister to live a normal life and overcome her fear of past.
I like the stories, but not: 1. Taking God's name in vain! Just stop! If people in history were at all religious, & generally died younger, they didn't do that. Find other words! 2. Research better. They didn't use words like slacksn or trousers. There are several other incidents, too, and it's grating, especially to someone who reads a lot of like genre. 3. Some things are just impossible when sick or hurt--keep it realistic.
This series is my guilty pleasure and this is the best yet. Bonus mystery that I didn't suspect until the very end. This could be read as a stand alone but the heroes from the other books make appearances here, adding depth. If you like medieval honorable warriors, strong ladies who overcome adversity, and scenic Scottish landscapes, this one is for you.
I really loved Logan's story especially following the progress his sister made. Helena was a great character as well. She was human and real and I love that. This series always warms my heart and makes me wish I lived back then. Yes even without running water etc. Something about Keeps and Castles and the Highlands that calls to me.
This was a good story, I really enjoyed the fact that she brought back familiar characters from the previous books. It was nice to see Finn and Colin together again. Logan and Helena's story was great. I hope she does something down the line with Mairin and Niall's that would be great! I will keep my fingers crossed.
Another wonderful book for this series! The way all the characters interact and come to life as theirs stories come to life makes Emma one of my favorite authors. Wonderful read! Lovely book! Hurry up and write the next one, lol!
Helena and Logan's story is really moving. It has lots of action , twists and turns. It made me sad, happy, and some places mad. It also made me want to cry in others. Over all a very good extension of this series.
Another brilliant instalment in this series. The story of Logan and Helena is enjoyable because of Logan’s past and Helena’s curse. The reader learns that people are capable of doing very bad things and others are honourable and true. Really good characters.
I’ve read the first five Bodyguard books and this is my favorite so far! The emotional swings had me on the edge and crying at certain moments. Thoroughly enjoyable and introduced new characters that I’m sure I’ll meet again in a future adventure.
I am really enjoying this series. Ms. Prince is an amazing author. However, one theme I don’t care die is this somewhat “theme” of Highland Warriors moving to the Borderlands to make their women happy. Selfish of the women for sure.
I have enjoyed this series and look forward to reading the next one. These are the types of characters you want to know more about and follow as time goes on.
Worst of the Series light spoilers ahead I liked it didn’t love it. It was one of the more boring ones in the series. Really not much happened and the things that did were so contrived. Another reviewer called it “faced paced” which is not how I would describe this one. There was really zero reason for either of them to travel back to the castle in England. Helena could have easily just told Finn about the passageway. Her need to guard that secret above all others was so forced and pointless. Mairin letting her beloved brother take the fall for killing their father for years was beyond forced.
