An intricate scheme to abduct the children of the most powerful politicians on Capitol Hill gets disrupted when Kerry Branson, ex-homicide detective turned private investigator, inadvertently rescues one of the victims on a fog-laden backroad in the Piney Woods of East Texas.
When Kerry discovers the six-year-old boy is the son of a U.S. Senator kidnapped from his Austin home, her call to the FBI is just the beginning of her problems. Pursued by a ruthless band of mercenaries who seem to know her every move, Kerry is forced into an uneasy alliance with the agent assigned to the case, FBI Tracker Ryan Barr.
As the abductions continue, their search for the children will pit Kerry and Ryan against a formidable adversary who uses his wealth and political power to cloak a psychopathic obsession. His manipulation extends deep into the government even to the Office of the President.
A horrific plan slowly emerges—one that has drug cartels and terrorist groups lined up to cash in. With their lives on the line, Kerry and Ryan arne't backing down.
I write about what I know, cops and crime. After twenty-two years with the Dallas Police Department, I have an unending source of inspiration for my plots. Many incidents and characters are based on my experiences. My characters are what is truly fun about writing. I never know where they will take me. There is always something out of the ordinary in my stories.
Kerry Branson, PI, inadvertently rescues a six-year-old boy named Tristan. -a son of a U.S. Senator.
Other children are abducted, all children of powerful politicians.
This is a "buckle your seatbelts" read. The one word that comes to mind is "wow." Action-packed, characters with grit.
The opening scene drew me right into the story. It began tense and grew in intensity. The bad guys were really bad, and the good guys, heroes.
I have a dozen children and couldn't imagine the horrors of one of them abducted. This story became personable. I also have a son named, Tristan.
I enjoyed this book so much I lost sleep. When not reading "Going Gone," I thought about the children and the characters. What an ending. I loved it, making Anita one of my favorite authors. I'm off to get her next book, Sentinels of the Night: A Tracker Novel
Another thriller by Anita Dickason starts like gangbusters with Tristan—a kidnapped boy—frightened but trying to escape a creepy house at night, he hides from scary men, then runs through dark woods. Armed men chase him toward a road where Tristan is nearly run over by a car driven by PI Kerry Branson.
The former homicide detective rescues and protects Tristan from the relentless kidnappers. She is aided by Ryan Barr, a member of the Trackers—an FBI special team that works politically fraught cases with national security implications.
The fast-paced plot is driven by a ruthless man, with wealth, power and the will to neutralize or kill all opposition to his quest for political power. If his plans come to fruition, he will destroy those he regards as enemies, plus their entire families—causing repercussions at the highest levels of our government.
If you like action-thrillers, this one has murders, covert agents at risk, car chases, explosions, ex-special forces good and bad guys, paramilitary action, gun battles, etc.
PS If you don’t like even a soupçon of paranormal, be warned: a few characters have a small paranormal traits, which they keep hidden due to operant conditioning from just growing up different as children.
Non stop suspense! The tracker series has me hooked!
Once again Anita Dickason takes us into the minds of the worst criminals and those that have a unique ability to stop them. Her authenticity is evident throughout as she takes us into highly detailed crime scenes and let's us ride along as the action never stops. Had me riveted and never let go. I haven't had such fun reading FBI thrillers in years!
Kerry is leaving her friends house after a nice visit. She's unfamiliar with the area and is lost in a thick fog. As she's creeping along the road, she something moving and she realizes it's a child. She stops someone is after him. She grabs him and stuffs him the car. As she's asking him questions she realizes this is the son of a Senator that had been kidnapped. The FBI is informed and all hell breaks loose.
Kerry is an ex-cop turned private investigator with an extraordinary ability. She partner's up with an FBI agent with an ability of his own to bring down whoever is responsible for the child kidnappings and bring the children home.
This is the first book that I have read by the author. Even though this is the second book of the Tracker series, it is a stand alone. The one small thing that I noticed was the formal language that was constantly used throughout. Normal conversation contains more contractions and I think it would feel less stuffy and more natural. Now, having said that, I really enjoyed the story and intend to get book one and continue with the series.
After a perfect opening, the story races forward, and imparts unobtrusive info as it builds tension, and adds even higher stakes all the way to the end. Loved the line about the FBI, "Kerry never ceased to be amazed how fast the FBI could tick someone off." The sparse dialog worked, believable, and with just enough technical justification for what happens. The way the kid talked, is just like a kid talks, and sends this author to a higher level. My favorite thing? Kerry as a great offensive driver while taking on the mercenaries. This is a movie worthy thriller. It has everything, even possibly making the reader wonder who the traitor in their ranks is.... (no spoiler here) I can't think of any downside. The clear comradery of the FBI team and Kerry works on several levels, as each event unfolds logically. The romantic element did not distract, and instead enhanced the great ending. All the plot threads were accounted for beautifully.
A great read. Loved every bit of it. Well-written, easy to read. Would love to check out the rest of this series. I find it interesting. Gotta see if my local library has the 1st book to this series..... If not, gotta get an SD card for my Kindle..... lol....
The second novel of the Trackers series and the third that I've read. A fast paced, action thriller, with a supernatural twist. Someone is kidnapping the children of United States Senators and the Governor of Utah. Kerry is a private investigator who accidently discovers one of the kidnapped children and in the process of hiding him, she also becomes a target. She joins up with the FBI Tracker team in a race to find the other missing children... before they are going, Going, Gone!
I really enjoy this series; the only downside is that I get all the characters confuzzled in my brainy parts. It is hard to remember who has what special abilities. But it is an excellent weekend binge read.
