Imperalis has been lost. The Nameless Ones have returned. The Coalition refuses to fight, leaving the Ganog to wage a war they cannot win.

Betrayed and cut off, Khar and Zakanna struggle to survive. Nolan and Burke bring Alpha Company to reinforce the Nyar home world, only to be overwhelmed by the mighty Void Wraith Omegas. Fizgig and Takkar are captured by the sadistic Kthul fleet leader, Azatok.

Only one guttering flame of hope remains. On Nyar, Nolan finds an ancient Void Wraith Omega, weathered and damaged. If he can restore it, they might just have a weapon strong enough to fight back.

By day I am an iPhone developer architecting the app used to scope Stephen Colbert’s ear. By night I am Batman. Ok maybe not. One can dream though, right?

I’ve been writing since I was six years old and started inflicting my work on others at age 18. By age 24 people stopped running away when I approached them with a new story and shortly thereafter I published my first one in the Rifter.

Wait you’re still reading?

Ok, the facts I’m supposed to list in a bio. As of this writing I’m 38 years old and live just north of the Golden Gate Bridge in the beautiful town of Mill Valley. If you’re unsure how to find it just follow the smell of self-entitlement. Once you see the teens driving Teslas you’ll know you’re in the right place.

I live in a tiny studio that I can cross in (literally) five steps and don’t own an oven. But you know what? It’s worth it. I love developing iPhone apps and if you want to work in San Francisco you accept that rent for a tiny place costs more than most people’s mortgage.

If you and about 2 million other people start buying my books I promise to move out of Marin to a house in the redwoods up in Guerneville. No pressure. Wait that’s a lie. Pressure.

Light fun Sci-Fi Space Opera. Popcorn books or good beach reads.

I started this series with The Complete Void Wraith Saga: Books 1 - 6. Unfortunately, that book was not the complete series and did not include the end of the Ganog Wars.

Press the Line is a Light fun SciFi Space Opera Press the Line provides the end to the Ganog Wars. The characters and plot were engaging and the pace was fast. The writing is not bad, if a bit formulaic and predictable. There is a definite lack of world-building and depth in both the story and the characters. This is a Star Trek-like book and series. It is entertaining and I appreciated the recap at the start of the book.

On the downside, this reader did not get enough background, science, and depth to make the universe believable. The characters, while likable, are flat and the dialog is simplistic. That said the pacing is good and the action scenes are entertaining.

I listened to the audible version and the narration by Ryan Kennard Burke was very good. This is not great Science Fiction; there is little if anything new here. It is almost more fantasy than it is SCIFI. That said, it's harmless and fun entertainment.

3.5 Stars rounded down. Even though I enjoyed it, the book and the series do not warrant a four-star rating.

Just Decent

While I can say that this series has several interesting concepts, alien species and technology, it's really only one that I can read just to pass the time.

Many of the characters are stereotypical and only two dimensional at best. The build up of the novel is decent and then feels like a quick and somewhat dissatisfying resolution.

I am not sure at this time if I will read the next trilogy in the series.

(Note: This is a review in general of the full Ganog Wars Trilogy - Ed.)

I was first introduced to author Chris Fox's work some months ago when I took a flier on his Void Wraith Trilogy. I'd seen it on my Facebook wall, and as a fan of military sci fi it looked interesting. So it proved - a rousing good read set in an interesting universe with characters I came to care for and a villain/enemy I could truly despise. As one of author Fox's earlier works, it was as little rough around the edges and there were some choices made that I wasn't entirely fond of.

However, now comes the Ganog Wars following on the Void Wrath Trilogy's heels, and it definitely lifts Chris Fox's storytelling with a universe that continues to develop strongly, characters who continue to deepen and become more dear, and new allies/enemies to keep things fresh. The writing is easier to follow, as is the dialog; and the characters, especially the new ones, are even more believable with motivations and concerns than make sense. Our older, more familiar characters deepen, yet still remain the same ones we got to know previously - a very necessary continuity - though there is generally a logical progression with them. And Fox's pacing of the story, as previous, is rock solid.

There are a few slightly contradictory elements primarily revolving around the central character from the Void Wars, Nolan; as the hero of that series, one would naturally have expected a bit more progression by him in the ranks, as well as a ton of respect amongst his peers and even superiors for his deeds through those wars. Yet he seems to be at a standstill for no identifiable reason with the former, and to have even regressed - not his doing - in the latter. Indeed the disrespect he's shown early in the tale and the overall contempt he and his unit experience from their peers is shocking. He is forced to earn all of that all over again, which is a bit frustrating to follow.

The other element concerns the arch enemy they face as the story develops. While of necessity there are similarities to the one we know from Void Wraith, there are still some substantial differences that are unexpected and in some cases a bit baffling. Combined with the fairly abrupt ending with Press the Line, and we're left wondering about these differences. It will be interesting to see whether Fox goes on to develop those with a more satisfying level of detail, to help us understand what we're seeing. I hope so!

Meanwhile, especially for those who enjoyed our first sojourn in Void Wraith, Ganog Wars is a thoroughly satisfying continuation I'm happy to recommend!

The finale to Nolan and his crew and friend's story is here and... it's pretty meh. I was expecting a lot more, more stakes, more death but the book plays it pretty safe, none of the good guys pay a particularly heavy price (if any at all) and the only ones who bite the dust are bad guys and characters barely related to the Nolan entourage. Nolan continues to be the best thing since sliced bread, and he's described as this super cool guy who's just good at everything because he's soooooo humble. He continues to be the least interesting guy in a cast of paper cutouts which is impressive.

It doesn't help that the story kind of just ends as well? As if the author expected to continue this in some way but that never happened. There's no epilogue or "Where did they all end up?", just a cut to black after the battle has been won and... that's it, roll credits. Considering I dragged myself through six of these things, I expected more. It ends openly enough that a sequel certainly seemed likely but not yet, anyhow. Just a ton of threads left hanging.

I also felt the writing was below even Fox's standards, almost as if written at least partially by AI. There were several moments where the narrative just jumped wildly and I barely hung on.

For now I'm done with this, though, and I'm gonna give Chris Fox's writing a wide berth for a while, I think.

The Coalition of United Races vs. The Ganog isn't enough?

The Coalition elected President Dryker to wrangle the politicians while Admiral Fizgig leads the fleet. The addition of a unit of mechs lead by Captain Nolan is welcome against the Ganog forces now that the Gorthians are nearly back. All our heroes are in the fight. The end is near.

It's all about the characters. Good characters can lead you through a story making even a simple plot an adventure. The characters in this saga are good, real good, and the plot is no where near simple in this saga. The daring deeds are apocalyptic, the fights are battles royal, the heroes are hundreds of feet taller than their foes, and the weaponry is cataclysmic! Our heroes always fight an uphill battle with many travails to surpass, yet they persevere. I love these characters!

The storyline has brought us to the end of this saga but I would love to see more from the Tigris and Primo, to see this universe return. My plea to the master storyteller: please give us MORE!

I bought this book in a box set. I enjoyed the overall plot and characters. The story has grown well and had errors throughout. The overall book was fun to read and sometimes seemed rushed to end the series. The telling of the story was not as well done as the others but was still fun to read about and with the new aliens and allies, it was interesting to see how it would turn out. I enjoyed this series.

I really enjoyed the ending installment to this series. It paid off all the setup from the past five books, and revealed secrets that had been building the entire time. Overall, this has been one of my favorite sci-fi action series I've read recently, with plenty of unique creatures, inventive combat, and compelling dialogue and characters. Definitely worth reading for any fans of the genre.

The final book in the series, or is it?

Nolan and company have the battle of their lives in this book. There's lots of death and mayhem and posturing bad guys who don't have any common sense. The Ganog, as a species, are pretty much idiots. Most of them are at least. Some are worth saving. But the cost is so high! Will there be more? Seems like it. Someday soon I hope.

Enjoyable end this this trilogy.

It seems this universe will continue on, sometime down the road. Thankfully the entire trilogy was a good read. Memorable characters and some good villains. Worth the price of admission.

Great story, with good proof-reading!

Loved the story. Someone did more than just run a spell check. Thank goodness - finally! Too many of these electronic Sci-fi novels have not been proofed. Wish the sequel was ready now. I want to continue.

Just completed the Trilogy and look forward to him writing a sequel. All the books in this series were very interesting. They were very well written and would make a very good movie or TV series.

A satisfactory conclusion

This was a satisfactory conclusion, but a little drawn out. Lost some tension in an extended grand finale. Still a very worthy read.

Lots action in the last book of the series. Overall, it was okay. The short chapter approach made the series a quick read. But it also limited character development. Still it was a fun read.
