Jacklyn Wyatt Adventures #2

Mormon Girl Incognito

Rate this book
Hilarious heroine Jacklyn Wyatt is back—this time in a dicey Vegas adventure! Jacklyn “Jack” Wyatt is just your average Mormon girl—other than her brief stint with the FBI, her subsequent brush with death, and her dreamy boyfriend, Special Agent Damon Wade. But in the eight months since she helped save a kidnapping victim, Jack’s life has returned to its mostly stagnant state. She’s still trapped in a dead-end job, and even her relationship seems to be stuck in a rut. These days, adventures are few and far between. So when Damon heads to Las Vegas on assignment, Jack sees the perfect opportunity to surprise her boyfriend and rekindle the spark in their relationship. But the surprise is on she has just landed herself in the middle of a high-stakes operation involving Russian criminals. Unwittingly drawn undercover once more, Jack is all too aware that the survival of Damon and his associates depends on the success of her charade. In the unfamiliar world of luxurious limos, exclusive nightclubs, and gambling, Jack must convince the high-rolling hustlers that she is a terrifying international arms dealer. If only she knew anything about poker. Or guns . . .

I love the MC, Jack. She is hilarious. She gets in the worst situations and her sarcastic personality and humor gets her through everything.

A Date with Danger comes before this book. I would suggest they be read in order, and really, I loved both of them. Mormon Girl: Incognito takes place after the first and mentions situations from the first book. Plus, you get to know the personalities of Jack and Damon.

The location of this story is mainly in Las Vegas. Damon is there for work and asks Jack to meet him to meet his family. Damon is with the FBI and undercover, but Jack doesn't know that and decides to surprise him early. She ends up being surprised when she unwittingly almost blows his cover on a case. Now she is part of the case.

The way Jack handles herself in stressful situations is great. Like I mentioned above, she has as very sarcastic personality and a way with words. There were many "laugh out loud" moments. But at the same time, she is able to overcome her insecurities (in a unique way) and get the job done.

The book contains religious references. You can probably tell by the title of the book. I think it would be fun for anyone to read. There is kissing and violence.

This is the sequel to A Date with Danger and continues eight months after with the same heroine and her hunky FBI now-boyfriend. So I highly recommend reading that first.

And having read the first, you'll mostly know what to expect here. While the plot isn't the same or anything, all the important parts are very similar (narrative voice, character personalities, heavy LDS motivational basis, etc.) I was very gratified to find that Iroz does an excellent job continuing the relationship that began in the first book without walking back any of the progress there or making it seem irrelevant or, well, lesser.

And I think I'll leave it at that. This is a good story and worthy successor to the first. Read it before this one, but then you can look forward to more of the same (assuming you liked it).

A note about things: Same notes, same reasons, so no surprises there. A bit more actually addressing the kissing-only and strategies not to "go too far", but otherwise steady on.

It's no secret that I'm a chicken and the adventure and danger in this book had my heart pounding. I even found myself holding my breath at times, especially since Jack is your every day girl next door. She's so naive and her sometimes bumbling and hilarious ways endeared her to me because she could be anyone--she's no super hero spy. Jack has the grit to dig right into a situation, after a few tears, because that's who she is and she really flies by the seat of her pants, more often than not. It's easy to like Jack and to relate to her.

The setting, Vegas, wasn't my favorite because I'm not into all the gambling and "stuff" that happens there, but I was completely fascinated by the underground world that opened up before my eyes. Does this stuff really happen??! Combine that with the characters, even the creepy ones, and it's an entertaining read for sure.

I'm so glad to have read A DATE WITH DANGER, since the backstory to the character relationships is given there. I recommend reading that one first. Damon and Jack have a great and unique relationship and I loved watching it progress even further, even as it's put in jeopardy. The romance...*sigh*...so sweet and fresh, although there are some issues to work through and the circumstances aren't ideal by any means.

Throughout all the danger and edginess to the book, the character growth is heartwarming, especially their spirituality. Those moments lead to a respite from the fast pace, which gave me a breather. I hope there is more to this story, because I'm loving it.

Content: mild romance (kissing, some implied past intimacies); moderate religious elements (LDS); mild violence. It's Vegas, so gambling, drinking, etc.

Ooh, I really loved this book! It was so engaging and had the perfect balance of suspense, action and romance. There is a book before this one ( A Date with Danger) and I didn't read it but that didn't seem to hinder how much I enjoyed this book. There were plenty of references to what happened in the first book so I think I have the general idea of what happened. I didn't really feel lost at all but now I may just have to go back and read it so I know the whole story!

Jack and Damon are fun characters. I smiled at their interactions and how they grew in intensity throughout the book. The ending was explosive and crazy! So good!

I'm so glad I am on the tour for this book (and sorry I missed the last one!) This is an author now on my radar and I can't wait to see what comes next!

This is an LDS fiction book so thing specific to that religion are in this book. The characters are LDS and talk of religion but nothing overly preachy.

Content: mild violence, kissing, setting in Vegas (drugs, alcohol, gun dealers, hit men)

Between 4 and 4 1/2.

You could probably read this one without reading the first, but I recommend reading A Date with Danger before Mormon Girl Incognito.

My reading of this book was largely influenced by my friend Liz. After she read it, several of us felt the need to do the same. All I can say is WOW.

I recognize that some people love this book. For that reason, I’m a little hesitant to leave a negative review. However, I feel the need to warn that there is some troubling purity culture content. Also, I had a really hard time with the main character.

Amazing!!! The way the author put it together blending the FBI and Jack and Damon was perfect. They are such a perfect couple! I love were Damon says that he was jealous and I agree with jack it is so cute. My fav book ever!! I am amazed at how much I loved it, Kari did an amazing job. When Damon told her about his past I am so proud of her response! Jack is so darn funny and a person I look up to. I am so glad that Damon jumped off the balcony to get to his lover, it shows how much he truly loves her.

I don't even know where to start with this book... seriously one of the best books I've read! I absolutely fell in love with the first book in the series, so I was a bit worried this second one wouldn't measure up as well as the first.

I was so wrong.

I think I may like this book more than the first!! The two main characters have such a sweet and intense romance, with an incredible backdrop of secret identities, espionage, danger and more! Our protagonist Jack is as spunky, brave and hilarious as in the first book, if not more so. I literally kept laughing aloud as I read it, so much so that my husband constantly had me read aloud some of the funny parts so he could join in.

You definitely need to read this book after the first in the series, and I truly hope there will be more. I've already gone back and re-read some of my favorite parts, lol. I'm definitely keeping my eyes peeled for more by this author!

I always hesitate when books say they have an LDS aspect to them. For me, most of the time it feels over the top on the religious aspect of the story. This book weaves in the religious side of things very naturally. It's not over the top and is in fact well done in my opinion. I loved this story. I loved how Jacky finds herself in this situation and they way she handles herself. I love the adventure and the way Damon grows throughout this book. The only thing I found frustrating was the reference to another story that we obviously should have known about. As the pieces fell together, I felt like I knew the other story but couldn't place where I had read it. I looked for other books the author had written but could find any information in the book. I finally figured out what other story was being referenced and things made even more sense. It would have been nice to have the other book (A DATE WITH A STRANGER) mentioned somewhere, (usually there's a seperate page that lists the author's other books in the beginning). Other than that, I loved everything about the story. I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves a great adventure full of tension and high stakes.

I really enjoyed this book! Good steady pace, lots of action and romance! I had forgotten that I had read a previous book by this author which also included Jack and Damon in it. (A Date with a Stranger) It is not necessary to read the books in order since they can be read as stand alone, but things are mentioned in this story that happen in the previous one.

"Jack" surprises her boyfriend in Vegas but ends up in the middle of his top secret investigation! I liked how strong Jacklyn was in almost every situation and determined to make the best of every day and her relationships with others.

Jacklyn is a christian/LDS/mormon so some of her beliefs about church and relationships and marriage are mentioned through out the story.

I enjoyed this book and read it in one night so I could find out what was going to happen. I hope to see future books with these characters.

I received a copy of this book complimentary for blog and social media review. All opinions are my own.

This book was so amazing! The powercouple Damon and Jack are back and I was so excited to read it! The first book was outstanding and I loved it, but the second might have been a bit better. It has more suspense and I literally could not solve the mystery on my own! It gets intense at some parts while other moments in the book are just precious. The story is just so great and the relationship between Jack and Damon is so cute! It is the exact realtionship I want with my husband when I get old! ;) This is definitely a must read! (But first, don't just right into the second book. Make sure to check out A Date With Danger first!)

This doesn't sound very thrilling from the first look at the book and hearing some of the backstory, but it really was. I feel as though I would react in some of the same ways as the main characters and thought the storyline was believable and had some interesting twists throughout the book.
I may have stayed up extra late to finish it....

I have a very high tolerance for books that didn’t deserve to be written, but this book pushed me all the way to that limit—past it, if I’m being honest. It was the closest to a true “did not finish” I’ve gotten for a long time. But after a long break, several books, and a lot of prepping my mind, I successfully pushed through the second half.

If you are wondering whether to read this book or not, I will direct your attention to the title: Mormon Girl Incognito. Feel free to judge this book by its cover—it’s exactly what it sounds like.

Wow! Page turner from start to finish, with outright laughing with the banter of the characters, Jack and Damon.
If you can find someone to jump off a balcony after you, you've found the right one.

A date with danger is the book before this. It is a continuing story to it.

I didn't read the previous book by this author about this character. So, I felt a tad lost about a few details. But really, it didn't matter.

I had a hard time relating to Jack. She didn't come across like a 26 year old. She made stupid decisions. All for the sake of moving the plot forward. Which result also seemed inconsistent to me. I wish I'd done my usual reading of reviews before I dove into this book. I might have had lower expectations.

So, if anyone out there is going to read this book: suspend all expectations of rational behavior and realism in a plot. This is pure fantasy.

I also didn't think Jack was portrayed very well as a member The Church Of Jesus Christ of LatterDay Saints. Mostly she just felt ridiculous.

I wish I could give this a better recommendation, higher rating. I think perhaps this should be a 3 for effort (the author can write with humor and give some good descriptions) but perhaps maybe only 1 star for result. Thus, I averaged it out at 2 meager stars. Sorry if this sounds brutal. It's just my personal opinion.

The premise was interesting but the author really pounds religious beliefs down your throat in unnatural ways. I just kept thinking that a normal person wouldn't say/do those things that way. Because they were unnatural and felt forced it ruined the book.

I spent part of this novel anxiously yelling in my mind "What are you doing breaking your cover to be all lovey dovey! They might be keeping an eye on you!?!" On the other hand, it was fun trying to walk as "Carmella" would to the tune of Muse's "Super Massive Black Hole." :D

I was so excited to see that Jack is back! I loved her in A Date with Danger and I really wanted to know what happened to her and Damon after that one. This book was so much fun and the story was so great!

I loved Jack, I loved the way she always tries to do the right thing. I loved the way she went about surprising Damon and I wasn't terribly surprised when things didn't go quite the way she planned. I liked that, while this part of the story was a bit predictable, what happened next was anything but! Jack's character just got better and better for me in this book. I loved the strength she showed throughout her undercover job that she didn't intend to be part of. I also loved the strength she showed when Damon through her for a loop. It was really fun to see this whole story through her eyes, to know that underneath she was shouting for joy at all the things she was able to see and do in Las Vegas, while she had to hold herself in character on the outside. And I really loved the parts where she had to act knowledgeable about something she had no clue about!

I liked Damon too. While none of this story is shown through his eyes, I liked that he was honest with Jack. I liked the way he was protective of her, even when he was not supposed to be when she was undercover. He worked so hard to protect her, even putting himself in danger.

This book was so great, I really enjoyed the plot. I thought that the author did a great job with the sights, sounds, and smells of Vegas. Reading it was almost like taking a trip there. I'm hoping for more books by this author about Jack and Damon!

This one was really hard for me to rate. There were moments I really liked the book, and others -- not so much. There were times I found Jack to be much more immature than a 26 year old should be, and I didn't really think she and Damon fit. This one also felt a lot more preachy than the first book. I like books that have religion in them, but not ones that feel like they are trying to teach youth lessons in a not so subtle way. I also really struggled with the fantastical nature of the book. I knew what I was getting into more or less, but it was still pretty over the top. All of that said, it was a fun book. Iroz put in some really great descriptions and I found myself smiling over certain situations. I started out reading and due to time constraints ended up listening. Once I sped up the narrator, she was really good, and I enjoyed it a lot more than I did when I was reading. As much as I hate first person present tense, it worked when I was listening. (And oddly enough, audio books are one of the things that made me really dislike that style of writing, so I can't figure out why I didn't hate it in this book.) The end was really sweet.

I ended up rounding down, because I liked the first book better than this one and I gave that one 4 stars. I will make sure to listen to the last book in the series. :)

I did not like this book as well as the first one. The biggest reason was that the scenario was a lot more unrealistic. The main premise doesn't even make sense to me, as even when the guy saw her, she looked like herself, but then they fix her up to look different... so... it really was illogical to me. It really drug on a bit in the middle as well. The ending also threw me off as they portray her as fooling these guys until the very last min??? That was necessary but still bugged me. Anyway... the reasons I'm glad I read it... It helped resolve a lot of things from the first book, continued their relationship and saw it progress. There were a lot of very TRUE things dealing with dating in our culture, like DTR's and the L-word... Also, when she talked about being careful with not kissing too much... I was sad about Damon's confession, because he is such a good guy, but it's realistic either way... I still didn't like it though... I cracked up when she was playing poker... though I don't know how anyone can be so ignorant that they don't even know what a suite is in cards... just saying... Anyway, there were a lot of redeeming qualities, you just can't get hung up on the unrealistic aspects of things and just enjoy it's silliness...

There is just something about these books that just pulls me in right away. Both A Date with Danger and this one I wasn't even going to start reading yet, but I opened to the first page to skim and didn't end up putting it down until I was finished. Which is awesome for a book, but not so awesome for my house and my children :)

My one complaint with this book was Damon's use of "Baby". Now I don't really mind the use of this word as a term of endearment. I occasionally use "babe" myself, but his use of it was completely over the top. It wasn't a once or twice thing, it was ALL THE TIME and it made me want to gag.

If you are looking for a clean suspense funny novel that I would recommend Mormon Girl: Incognito. That being said, I think you probably need to read A Date with Danger first to really understand the dynamic between Damon and Jack. There are lots of references to the first book. It actually made me want to go back and reread that one, which I did.

Another winner for Kari Iroz! Can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

Small irritations, but still a fun book. This sequel to Date with Danger is another fun adventure with Jack and Damon. While some of the situations strain belief, the dad came off better than mom and the aunt is less judgmental. It’s hard to believe that Jack, who struggles to get through school and pay bills, still doesn’t have a roommate or go to classes—no wonder she doesn’t graduate! That said, if you put reality on the back burner and believe a normal church girl could suddenly pass for a stone-cold killer, it’s a good book. I like a little romance/spy novel and the author does a better job at that than creating a snapshot of reality. I enjoyed the book and the adventure like a man might like James Bond—not reality, but fun.

Like the last book, the exposition is a little slow and it’s hard to see that her parents really care about her—her mom starts choosing her wedding colors before she is even engaged! They get mad at her for assisting the FBI instead of being proud of her and trying to help her physically heal. Again, ignore those little issues and it is a fun book.

I did not like the girls character. She is portrayed as a “molly Mormon”. Naive, stupid, takes things literally, dating an FBI agent. She goes to Vegas to surprise him “while he is working” and has to go undercover with him. First of all if he is “working” she should have assumed he was going undercover.
She has a low self esteem. More like a teenager. Her mom is protective of her.
I am a Mormon. Most Mormon girls are not like this. Her boyfriend admits he had sex and now he is trying to repent of that but she is so mad she takes off to think about it.
It is a preachy book. It portrays that Mormons who live in Utah fear the rest of the world. Some do because they are too sheltered. And don’t see what is in front of them.

Jack goes to Vegas to surprise her boyfriend early, but the real surprise is on her when she walks in on a deadly co-op between her boyfriend/agent and a dangerous man. To get out alive together, Jack must pretend to be a woman who is practically the complete opposite of her.

I did not realize that this was the second book 🤦🏼‍♀️. But I loved the plot!! The book had a bit of a romance interwoven with suspense. I wished for more romance, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it! There were also times where Jack was so insecure I was starting to really get annoyed by it. My favorite parts were when Damon tells her all the times he wanted to tell her he loved her and kiss her. 🥰.
