This was the first Murder on Location series that I have read, but not my first Sara Rosett book. Even though I had not read any of the others in this series, yet, I was not lost and didn’t feel like I didn’t know the character. Kate and Alex are getting married, and when an unexpected guest is murdered, suspicion is thrown towards Kate’s parents. Of course, Alex and Kate have to become involved to clear her parent’s name. This was a fast paced story that kept my attention from the time I picked it up till I finished. I loved the location and the descriptions of the locations. I really felt like I was there with the characters. I was totally floored by the reveal of who the murdered actually was.

Death at an English Wedding finds Americans Kate and Alex, the location scouts scouting for a venue for their own wedding. Well, not really, as when the book opens they have all of the details for their wedding secured, which is good since their wedding is a mere three weeks away. For people “in the business,” it would seem logical that all would run smoothly, but family has a way of complicating things and both Alex and Kate have some doozies for family members.

The first complication surfaces when Kate picks up her mother at the airport. Always a bit flighty and unpredictable, her mother is sketchy on details as to whom the younger man is that Kate saw her with in the coffee shop. Her mom brushes the incident off as nothing but fellow passengers chatting after their flight, but Kate knowing her mother well, knows there is more to the conversation than that. It is a few chapters later before the details start to come out and, as one might expect, none if of those details are good.

The second complication is Kate’s father arrives quite unexpectedly. Now Kate very much wanted her father to attend her wedding and was thrilled he managed to make it, but the relationship between Kate’s parents is at best strained. The comings and going of Kate’s parents teeters on slap stick at times.

Lastly there is Alex’s mother. Where to begin with this one? She’s an odd one to be sure and I think I will let readers decide what to make of her.

Of course there is a murder and of course some of the main characters in the book are the suspects. Genealogy plays a big role in the plot which might not be so far fetched as a cause for murder. People can be very protective of their family connections and the family connections in this one are complicated.

For people who have read some or all of the books in the series, this one has many of the regular characters. Since the plot circles around Kate and Alex’s own event, everything is centered on them and their families as opposed to people Alex and Kate are working for in the other books. If you have not read any of the other books in the series, no worries. All you need to know is included in this rather self contained book.

This is the seventh book in the Murder on Location Series.

Death at an English Wedding is the sixth book in the “Murder on Location” series, featuring location scouts Kate Sharp and Alex Norcutt. This installment sees the pair getting married in the English village of Nether Woodsmoor. The body of an unknown man is found on the grounds the morning after the wedding, and with suspicion falling on Kate’s parents, Kate and Alex’s honeymoon is postponed.

I have not read any of the previous books in the series, and despite this I didn’t feel that I was missing any critical details. The author did a great job of introducing (or re introducing) all the supporting characters. Kate seemed a little flat to me at first, until I realized that she is a reserved woman. I have to say I did appreciate the level headed way in which she handled the discovery of a dead body the morning after her wedding and the postponement of her honeymoon. I loved Kate and Alex’s relationship and how they complement each other; Kate is organized, but Alex is more observant of people. They truly are a team.

The mystery itself had enough suspects and clues to keep it interesting; I did think that the discovery of who the murderer is relied a little to heavily on a coincidence, but that did not detract much from my enjoyment of the story. The gently humorous moments, particularly between Kate and her mother, also made the story enjoyable.

An observation: the author, Sara Rosett, mentioned at the end of the story that all the previous books have plots in which Jane Austen themes figure heavily. I also noticed some resemblances to Agatha Christie mysteries: the small charming English village with quirky inhabitants, and the tying up of loose ends to all the interested parties after the murderer was apprehended. I really want to read Books One - Five to find out more about Kate and Alex’s location scouting job, as well as the beginning and development of their relationship. I would definitely recommend this book to friends.

Good read.

Sara Rosett has a knack for bringing her characters to life. Death at an English Wedding is the 7th book in the Murder on Location series, though it can be read as a stand-alone book. I did not feel that I was missing out on anything by not having read the previous books.

This is a well-paced story set in an English village that has intrigue, mystery, and humor. A day after her wedding, Kate, the main character, finds herself having to deal with a dead body and those around her are all suspects. Some of the secondary characters were my favorites in this book, especially Kate’s mother. Kate and her mother have some great interactions that make you both cringe and laugh out loud. The relationship between Kate and her new husband, Alex, is sweet and the compliment each other in their personalities.

Sara Rosett is able to craft a solid cozy mystery that keeps you guessing and interested until the very end. I enjoy this author’s writing and her characters and will continue to read more of her books.

Kate and Alex are getting married at least! Beatrice has loaned them Parkview Hall for the wedding and the services of the Hall staff, including Malcolm, the new publicity coordinator. Kate is stressing out big time but leave it to Alex to charm the man who would perfectly portray a Regency butler in a period piece. Everything is all set with the venue and now to the parents. Kate's mom is busy with her new hobby of genealogy and eager to come to England and Alex's dad has even arranged time off to spend with his children but the other two parents are harder to nail down. When Kate's mom arrives, Kate spies Ava arguing with an unknown young man at the airport but when questioned her mom remains vague. The happy couple finally get the wedding of their dreams and it goes off without a hitch- almost- despite the differences between American and English traditions. A mysterious young woman crashed the wedding. That's a minor incident compared to a dead party guest being found the next morning. Unfortunately one or both of Kate's parents are the DCI's chief suspects. Kate knows he'll be fair but she can't head off on her honeymoon until the mystery is solved. With the help of the two men she loves most, she thinks she can push the police in the right direction but it's a lot harder than she expected when the clues do seem to point straight at her mother!

I was surprised when the wedding happened early in the novel. For once the cozy part of the story comes first and the mystery later. It takes quite some time before the dead body is found. It is impossible to figure out who did it and why until Kate puts the clues together. I did suspect that person but not for that reason and I didn't guess how complicated the story would be. I love the village of Nether Woodmoor but the way gossip travels so quickly would drive me crazy. The locals knew things that had literally just happened! They sure do love to gossip for entertainment. I missed Beatrice and Lord Harold. They're such great characters but they're missing from the plot. Also missing is Jane Austen but we have Mr. and Mrs. Bennet in modern day form as Kate's parents. Kate is still Kate: anxious, nosy and loyal to those she loves. Alex is even more swoony than ever. I was hoping Grace would stay and help solve the mystery but she went off to Disneyland Paris with her dad.

There are loads of new characters here and some returning. It's nice to see Ella step up and play a larger role here. She seems to have given up acting but is doing just fine for herself. I like her better now she's not trying so hard to play a role that isn't easy for her personality.

Malcolm, publicity coordinator at Parkview Hall, is stuffy and inflexible. He seems to love Parkview and relishes the traditions of the past. I agree with Alex that he would make a great butler! Nick Davis, the murder victim, was not a nice man. He was lazy and too full of charm to be honest. Nick seems to have been a conman, gaining the trust of people and then using them or ditching them when they were no longer useful. He didn't deserve to be killed but he didn't deserve to accomplish his goal either.

We get to know some of the locals we haven't spent much time with before. Marie, a waitress at the pub, likes to gossip as much as the older people. She seems nice enough but I don't know if I fully trust her. Shannon, who works at the inn, is a young woman with a troubled past. She claims to have seen something in the victim's room that no one else has discovered or knew about. Could she be lying or covering up something? The organist, Sylvia, shows up late to the wedding and has a secret. Could she be the killer? Fern, a wedding crasher, was apparently Nick's girlfriend. She seems to have been pretty naive and trusting at first but now knows the truth about her man. Could she have followed him to England and killed him in revenge for his seeing another woman? Kate sure hopes so.

Alex's dad seems nice enough. His mom is utterly awful! I can see why Grace couldn't live with her mom. Kate's mom is crazy and tries to pretend she's innocent while ignoring everything that's going on around her. I would be driven crazy by such a single-focused mother but at least she doesn't have to worry about marrying Kate off anymore. Kate's dad is more my type. He's very kind even if he was a hands-off dad. I LOVE his book nerdness and want to go with him on his book buying trips. Alex's best man is someone named Brent who is the closest thing to a childhood friend Alex has. It seems a little weird to introduce someone new at the end of the series. He's one of THOSE friends who likes to share memories of all the scrapes their friend MADE them get into. I don't know why Alex chose him.

A character who never appears on page but is important to the story is Tom Davis, founding member of a one-album wonder rock band back in the 80s (Kate is massively rude about her young age! She continually suggests the 80s is ancient history). This Tom Davis is Mrs. Sharp's latest obsession. She hopes she is related to him because she loved his music back in the day. She is trying hard to meet a member of the late musician's family because she's so starstruck. Tom seems like he was a decent man but not a great musician if the band only had one hit album.

As always, DCI Quimby is tough but fair. Constable Albertson is stepping up and doing more work on his own. He has a good mentor and seems to be learning from his boss. He's a little kinder and more sympathetic though.

I enjoyed this novel and I'm sad to have finished the series. I plan to go back in time and visit Kate's ancestors in the 1920s soon!

Content:
Kate and Alex are newlyweds and anything they do in bed is inferred. They only kiss on page.

I was given the chance to read Death at an English Wedding by Sara Rosett in exchange for a fair and honest review. While I have never read any of these series of books before, I found myself flying through the book rather quickly. It took me a while to figure out who everyone was and how they all knew each other, but once I had them all straight in my head, it was a smooth read. I don’t want to tell you about the book, because the summary on the back is enough to entice you to read it, but I will say that at times it was all a bit confusing because there was too much going on at once. It took a while for the story to get started, in my opinion, but it caught up close to the end.
I don’t much fancy English books, but enjoyed the read and might actually go back and read the rest of the series. However, being pregnant with baby number 5 and due in a couple of weeks, I doubt I will have much time anytime soon. Thank you for the chance to read and review!

Death at an English Wedding is the latest book in the Murder On Location cozy mystery series (but the first book for me). Alex and Kate are having their wedding in an English village with a cast of quirky relatives in attendance.

I found the author to have woven a wonderful story, delightful characters, and a picturesque setting. I was turning the pages to discover who the murder was, and what shenanigans Kate's mother was doing. At the end of the story, I found I wanted to plan a trip to England and book as many tours as possible. Since that is not feasible (for various reasons), I will have to find all of the books in this series and read them.

Death at an English Wedding can be easily read out of sequence though. I highly recommend this book. I think starting from the beginning will enrich the reader's understanding of the relationship development between Alex and Kate.

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.

Death at an English Wedding is the 7th book (not 6th, not sure why Goodreads has that listed) in the Murder on Location series but works very well as a stand-alone book. Kate and Alex have just celebrated their nuptials at a lovely English estate with all of their family and are on phase one of their honeymoon when the police show up and ask them to identify a body. It would appear that a wedding guest has been found dead on the estate property. The identification of the dead person leads them to a very strange mystery that involves family and might just put the kibosh on their honeymoon. I was very intrigued by the mystery and found the characters and setting a pleasure. I can't wait to read more in this series!

Death at an English Wedding by author Sara Rosett is the 6th book in the Murder on Location series, but the first that I've read. Location scouts Kate and Alex are getting married at Parkview, the stately country home owned by Lord and Lady Stone. With friends and family in attendance they tie the knot, but their honeymoon is abruptly interrupted before it can even begin with the news that a guest (an uninvited one....) was found murdered in the estate's maze the morning after the wedding. Family and friends are suspected, and the newlyweds must uncover the murderer before they can depart on their travels. A brisk page-turner, this cozy mystery keeps the reader guessing from start to finish. Very nicely written, and I look forward to going back and reading the first five books in the series.

Of note: Kate's mom, Ava, references a genealogical tie to an early 20th century female detective, which will be a spin-off series (High Society Detective), and I look forward to reading this upon its debut!

I almost gave this book a 3-3.5 star rating because it was so slow. But it ended up to be a good cozy mystery so I upped it to a 4 star. Still loving all the characters.

This was nice. A nice little cosy mystery but contrary to what I thought, you really should the previous books before reading this. The death part doesn't happen until way into the book and most of it is actually about the wedding between the main character and her LI.
So this is good, just don't be like me, read the other books first.

Her Mom Drove me crazy!!

I enjoy Sara Rosset a great deal. Her stories are fun to read, with challenging plots and quirky characters. The settings are always lush.

I think I have reached my limit on shallow , selfish, demanding characters. I do not understand why anyone, in books or real life , puts up with them. The mother of the bride is shallow, predictable, and boring. Please let her stay home in the future.

She also muddied the plot. Just not my favorite from the author.

Nice story and possibly end to the series....? Not sure if there are more or not. Would be nice if she does an orient express mystery on their honeymoon but honestly these people need a break from being involved with murders. Sort of enjoyed the introduction of Kate’s parents but her mother was very annoying. Author note at end explained they were based on Mr. and Mrs. Bennett. Totally see that now.

Maybe it was just me but I found this one not as good as others. The author says in her comments at the end of the book that this will be the last book of the series - that's probably good.
There didn't seem to be enough clues to what was really going on for the reader to figure out the plot or maybe I just didn't listen carefully. At least Kate and Alex finally got married! That was one good part of the story.

Alex and Kate are finally getting married! Beatrice throws them a lovely destination wedding at her stately home, Parkview. We meet Kate's parents. And the wedding itself goes off without any problems at all. But the very next day, the first morning of their honeymoon, Alex and Kate are staying at a cozy cottage - when they are awakened by the police. A dead body has been found in the hedge maze at Parkview, and since the man apparently attended the wedding, the police want to know if Kate or Alex can identify the man. They have no idea. But it turns out that Kate's mother knew the man in California, she had contacted him about her genealogy project. Kate's father had retired to run a Midwestern bookstore, and being a mystery fan he helps Kate and Alex run down clues.
Kate, Alex, Kate's father, and even Kate's mother make for a mystery-solving odd couple. But the mystery is a wonderfully complex one - with red herrings, false accusations, tiny bits of information showing up at the oddest moments, it's wonderfully written.
Kate is even attacked in her honeymoon cottage when someone lights a fire in the living room and turns on the cooking gas. Luckily she escapes and isn't seriously hurt. Alex had gone out to find a surprise breakfast and returns to a disheveled and shaking Kate. But the attack leads to Kate doing some last-minute sleuthing, with her mom, and figuring out exactly what's going on. And the case has one of the best resolutions yet. So again, loved the book, loved the series, and I really want to read more.
For now, unfortunately, this is the last book in this series. I've read a few books in the High Society Lady Detective series and will no doubt read more, but I would love to see Alex and Kate Norcutt solve mysteries together Mr. and Mrs. North style. Or like Tommy and Tuppence Beresford. Anyway, the entire series is worth a read. Highy recommended.

Having kindly received Death at an English Wedding by Sara Rosett to review by Goodreads and sent from the USA I was intrigued to see how closely an American could impart that very special atmosphere our old country houses hold, through vocabulary to their readers. In fact I was very pleasantly surprised. The book was a really fun read filled with detail, larger than life characters, hilarious situations and a murder that needed solving to boot.
Starting with the two main characters, Kate and Alex organising their wedding with the ever helpful 'wedding planner' Malcolm at a stately home, many of the 'hiccups' will be very familiar to any reader who has trod the same path. Due to the descriptive narration you can see and feel Parkview in all it's glory before the murder takes place, after the wedding, against many odds.
Kate is very much involved in exposing the murderer and it is her investigation which forms the main basis of the story.
All in all a very satisfying read and only two words have bugged me from reading - Boy Toy! I'm sorry, but a woman in a relationship with a younger man is said to have a Toy Boy. If I could rate the book at 4.9, I would deduct that .1 for this reason.

I have loved this series! I will anxiously await the next installment of Kate’s adventures as a Location scout for Jane Austen documentaries. I appreciated that the wedding happened early in the book so that we didn’t have to worry about the murder getting in the way of the big day. Kate’s mom and dad were great additions to this story adding humor and more insights into Kate. Alex’s parents had fairly minor role’s so I’m wondering if they will be showcased in a later book. These books are fun and easy to follow but not silly. I have especially enjoyed the narration of the audiobooks. Kate’s misfortune to always be near a murder does not bother me. I think DCI Quinby summed it up best in last book saying that she was either extremely unlucky or extremely inquisitive and curious, something like that. I actually cannot wait to see who dies in the next book. I love the cast of characters in Nether Woodsmoor and enjoy as they make appearances in most books. Beatrice is my favorite and Ella was back in this one. The ending left me saying goodbye to Kate and Alex in the most fun way. I know they will have an exciting time and wonder where the next book will pick up.

Kate and Alex are enjoying a dream wedding at Parkview Hall when an uninvited guest turns up dead on the premises. Kate is aghast to learn that her mother Ava had a relationship with the young man, having met him for coffee several times in Los Angeles to discuss her latest enthusiasm, genealogy; she is even more upset when her father’s shoe size happens to match that of an imprint left on the ground by the corpse. She will have to use all of her skills to find other suspects and to clear her family’s name, when all she really wants to do is go to Venice on her honeymoon with Alex…. This is the seventh and, to date, last of the Murder On Location series; in her afterward, Ms. Rosett notes that the series would be on hiatus while she explored other work. As with the other books in the series, there is nothing earth-shattering here, just a nice little cozy that features beautiful landscapes, entertaining characters and a mystery that doesn’t tie the reader up in knots while trying to solve it. Once again, mildly recommended.

Kate and Alex's big day is finally around the corner. The wedding is set at an English mansion the one they were scouting for location for the documentary making it a destination wedding.

Kate's Mother brought so much luggage Kate had to take two trips to move her mom and all her luggage from the airport to the mansion where the reservation was made. Her mom seem like a blabber mouth and don't think anything bad would happen to her because after all why would anyone do that to her?! Gosh, that is so annoying. Never think what went out of your mouth might cause your relatives harm.

Who would know that the employee at the Mansion was once a part of the music group that was pretty popular. And that the person that was killed was also the offspring of one music group member. What a twist of a story.

Hopefully Kate and Alex's adventure continues even after they tie the knots.

It's time for Kate and Alex to tie the knot, and they have invited parents and friends alike, and are ready to tie the knot in a mixture of American and English tradition. But when a wedding crasher is found dead, and the cops start looking at Kate's mom, the newlyweds have to postpone their honeymoon in order to make sure Kate's mom doesn't go to prison for a crime she didn't commit.

I am a huge fan of this series, and I have been looking forward to this installment for quite some time. Watching Kate and Alex get married warmed my soul. Ms. Rosett blended the wedding and the mystery perfectly. The plot for this one was original, and I didn't see the ending coming.

The seventh installment in the Murder on Location series was perfect. I want more from Kate and Alex, one of my favorite mystery couples.

This is the 7th (and I presume last) installment of the "Murder on Location" series, as there are no more listed. I have really enjoyed them as the protagonist of the story, Kate, is reasonably intelligent, not only in figuring out "who done it," but in providing the police with information that she has gathered, at least most of the time. I hate when she withholds information because "it's just a feeling, nothing concrete," or "If I tell them it will deepen their suspicion of (fill in the blank)." In this case, Kate and Alex are finally getting married, and someone is murdered after the wedding. The suspicion falls on Kate's parents, so she has to stick around, instead of going on their honeymoon, to solve the murder.

The series is well-written, with enough red herrings and suspects to keep you guessing.

Kate and Alex are finally getting married - at an English stately home. Both sets of their divorced parents show up for the wedding. When a guest (or is he a crasher?) turns up dead, their honeymoon plans for a trip to Venice get derailed. Kate's parents, especially her mother, are the chief suspects, although Kate has trouble convincing her mother that it is serious. Kate's mother Ava is a rather obnoxious character - I didn't like her at all, and thought Kate's patience with her was supernatural. After a number of twists and turns and another death (for which Kate's mother is also a suspect!), Kate and Alex finally help the police figure it out, at some risk to themselves. Another enjoyable cozy - light easy read, but fun - even after reading 7 of them in a row!

Kate and Alex are getting married, at last! However their families are nothing except dysfunctional, how will they all get on? and as usual with these 2 there's always a murder!

Beatrice and Harold are delighted to hold Kate and Alex's wedding at Parkview, the scene of murders in past books, and this is no exception. However, one of Kate's nearest and dearest looks like they're involved in the unnamed persons murder, so the honeymoon is on hold til Kate and Alex solve the murder.

Will they live happily ever after or will there lives be cut short?

I loved this book, in my opinion the best so far, I hope there's more to come from Kate and Alex though as this is the last one published so far...

With Kate and Alex wedding finally here. Kate picks up her mom from the airport, and notices her arguing with a stranger. Two days later the stranger show up at the wedding and is murdered. As Kate's dad has also shown up to surprise her. Two of the people Kate is closest to falls under suspicion. Will Kate and Alex have to postpone their honeymoon? And will Kate be able to use her past experience to solve what could be the most important case she has tried to solve.

Sara wrote another great mystery with well defined characters, a solid story line that has several twist in it to keep you guessing until the crime has been solved.

This is a charming and fun series, involving movie location scout Kate Sharp. She and fiance Alex live in a small English village and are preparing for their wedding. They want small and simple, but have agreed to use a fabulous old manor estate offered by friends as the wedding site . Both families have gathered, and the wedding goes off smoothly, but the next day a man is found dead in a maze on the estate -- and he is not known by either the bride or groom.

Kate and Alex are forced to delay their honeymoon as different family members fall under suspicion. A very enjoyable and pleasant read.

I like all Sara Rosett's series, though the Ellie Avery ones are my favourite. This series features a suspicious death at Kate and Alex's wedding, fortunately after the ceremony. I'm glad that the two main characters are Americans resident in England, as I truly dislike books written by Americans who think they know enough about English people to use them as characters. (I'm not British, but I can pick fake English characters after a couple of lines of dialogue!) It's a clever plot, though I did work out the solution mid-way through - to be fair, I think I may have read this before - and I liked the afterword about the starting point for the characters of Kate's parents.
