A Lion's Pride #7

When a Lioness Growls

Rate this book
This fiery lioness doesn’t take no for an answer.

A trip to paradise. A mystery to solve. And a seriously uptight dude who doesn’t know how to smile.

Stacey’s been intrigued by Jean Francois since the moment she first saw his granite countenance. Then when she found out he could fly… She never was one to leave her four feet on the ground. While she might act like a princess, adventure is her middle name.

Under orders from her king, she drags poor JF along with her to an exotic location in search of answers. On the way, they find danger—fun—clues to unravel—stupendous—and a fiery lust that even he can’t resist.

But when it comes to getting the man to make a commitment, this fiery-haired lioness is ready to growl. What will it take to make him admit he cares? Handcuffs come to mind.

When a Lioness Growls by Eve Langlais

Book 7 of the Lion’s Pride series. Paranormal shifter romance. Erotic elements.

Usually l love the strong female lead that is unwilling to be beaten. But this one goes a little to far for me. Both are Arrogant, yes with a capital A, which is fine but neither the heroine nor the hero seem to respect each other at all. She continues to call him Sweet Cheeks while he thinks she has a pea sized brain. They argue the whole time and beyond the sexual chemistry, I don’t get why they stay together.
They do solve a minor mystery and end up together so ok.

I’ll move on to the next because in general, I love the author’s wit and imagination.

I listened to the audio version. Not a favorite either.

Another great entry into the Lion's Pride series! I love how Eve writes such great heroines for this series. They are so confident, sassy and brave. It is a refreshing change to what usually happens in shifter books. I loved the slow burn romance between Stacey and JF. They were smoking hot together, and I loved the chase that happened to get to where they needed to be at to finally give in. If you have enjoyed the other books in this series, then I definitely recommend you give this one a go. Action, humour, and a romance to make you swoon! What else could you want? I can't wait for the next book!

Review originally posted at RabidReads.ca.

I continue to love this series with it’s crazy lionesses. They continue to say things that always make me laugh out loud. In When a Lioness Pounces, we were introduced to a new type of creature called a whampyre. They have some characteristics of vampires, but they aren’t the same. We didn’t learn a lot about them in that book, but we learn more in this book.

One of Arik’s resorts in the Caribbean has some people going missing. He wants to investigate what is going on, especially after seeing a video of what they decide to call a “liotaur”. Think of a minotaur, but with a lion head instead of a bull’s head. Since they want to investigate on the down low, Stacey, the pride’s event planner, is going down to “plan a wedding”. They decide to send a guy with her, posing as her brother, to help guard her. Gaston sends his second in command, Jean Francois. He is a whampyre.

I won’t go into details of the investigation. It was a pretty typical investigation. The romance between the two of them is pretty dramatic. Stacey is a bit crazy, like the rest of her “crew of Baddest Biatches”. Jean Francois is a bit uptight. He also has a thing against shifters. He has a good reason for his dislike, but he needs to get over it.

“I don’t think we’ve had the pleasure of meeting in person before. My name is Stacey Smithson.”
“I don’t really care.”
“What an odd name to give you.”
He glared so she laughed.
“While you might say you’re not interested, I know better, sweetcheeks. You’ve been eye-balling me for a while.” Just like she’d eyed him.
“If you saw me looking, it was only to ensure you didn’t turn rabid and attack me. Your kind isn’t known for being too stable.”
Her smile widened. “You say the most darling things. I will say I am most excited you’ve been chosen to come along as my bodyguard on this trip.”
“As if anything could guard you from your own insanity.”
“True.” How well he knew her already. “But I will enjoy watching you try. You’re an intriguing creature, Jean Francois Belanger. I look forward to finding out how you came to work for Gaston Charlemagne.”
“I might not be employed by him for long. Given his recent orders, I am thinking of updating my resume.” Said utterly straight-faced.
But she could tell he was having fun. Just look at the muscle jumping in his cheek. “You should apply to work for the pride. We have great dental benefits.”
“I’d rather shoot myself first.”
“Aren’t you just a ray of sunshine. I can see we’ll have so much fun together.”
“No, we won’t.”
“Challenge accepted.” She pointed at her suitcases. “Stow those bags aboard and we’ll get ready to leave.”

She clapped her hands. “There you go. That’s the look I want to see you use when you’re jealous. Followed by a vicious mauling.”
“Did it ever occur to you that I do something better than killing?”
“Like what?”
“The best revenge against other guys is to take you into my arms.” He drew her near. “And kiss you deeply, showing ownership.”
“Yes,” she whispered.
“Then slapping you on the ass and telling you to fetch me a beer.” He smacked her butt.
“How is that supposed to make them jealous?”
“If you were a man, you’d understand.” Turning from her, Francois moved off, his gaze intent on the ground.

It is all fun and games until you get attached to each other! Stacey and JF hit it off right away, in that, they don't get along. Despite the attraction, Stacey's fun loving ways, constant flirtation, and princess attitude isn't anything JF wants to be around. She is usually looking for a gentleman, but JF has calluses on his fingers that she wants rubbing on her skin

She wears down his resistance, because neither can deny the attraction that flares between them. The mystery they were sent to discover plays second to their circling of each other, until their circling leads them right into the middle of the problem

When JF lets his whampyr free, Stacey knows she's a goner, and then he is gone. Some quick manipulation gets him back, and their fun times continue

As always, a lot of fun, a lot of sass, and a sexy, dark, brooding man too boot!

It’s a Bird It’s a Plane No It’s Jean Francois!!

Well this kept me going all the way through. Laughs and lots of sex. The perfect pairing 😂😂😂. Stacey and Jean Francois solved the case while falling in love. He was very funny with his ways. Stacey broke him down and found the love of her life. They made a sweet couple. Now foe Melly’s story. 😊😊😊😊😊💜💜💜💜💜🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰

I've Got You, Babe!!!

Stacey Smithson had a crush on Jean Francois Belanger since the moment she laid eyes on him. When her Alpha Arik ( WHEN AN ALPHA PURRS ) received an anonymous video of a woman being abducted from one of the Pride's resorts in the Caribbean. He wanted to send someone to investigate what was happening.

She volunteered to go because as an event planner she would had better access to places and people than anyone else in the Pride. Arik asked Gaston ( WHEN A LIONESS POUNCES ) for help. The person he chose to send with her made her extremely happy.

Jean Francois "JF" Belanger, a whampyr and Gaston's right-hand man didn't have time for mundane errands. When his boss asked him to deliver a pasckage safely for the Lion's Pride. He never knew it would be the one person he had been avoiding since he arrived in town.

There was a mutual attraction between Stacey and JF. Even though the latter acted indifferent towards the former. As they were investigating the incident at the resort. They got to know each other better.

The feline found herself jealous of anyone eyeballing her "sweetcheeks" as she called him. While he was ready to rip anyone's limbs a part for daring to touch Stacey. Those two were pleasantly hilarious.

The culprit was more than one person. The evildoers got what was coming to them while Stacey got see and meet JF's inner beast. JF finally let go of his fear and gave his heart to the woman who made him feel alive.

WHEN A LIONESS GROWLS is the 7th book in Eve Langlais' LION'S PRIDE series. It was humorous, adventurous and enthralling. Two thumbs up and a recommendation to give this book a try.

P. S. Looking forward to Melly's story! ;)

2.5 stars.

I was close to enjoying reading this, but the hyperactive female kitty personality always seems to give me a bit of a headache. I love how badass they are but they really always hurt to read. I also didn’t like how she kept calling the chick after him a slut etc, especially when she’s trying much harder to get him. I get why she was saying it, jealous etc but it made me dislike her even more. Throughout reading this I told myself, this is definitely going to be the last one, Geo. And then what happens? I get to the end like every other one and there’s the bit about what the next book will involve, and BAM I get bit with the bug again even if I may not like it lol. I do like seeing human males get with the shifter females. Hoping this one stays a little dorky not like the last ‘geek’ male who wasn’t really that at all. I doubt it though Eve doesn’t really do males like that lol

3 stars.

This one is Stacey (the wedding planner) and JF, Gaston's 2IC and a whampyr (which is like a gargoyle and vampire mix). The banter between the two feels old and forced and I really couldn't feel the connection. Wished there was more to the whole mystery but that got resolved quite quickly at the end. An ok read.

The heroine was almost completely unlikable. No means no, even if it's the guy who is saying it. I used to find these pride books kind of fun, but the lioness heroine in each successive book gets more and more unlikable. I think I have to give up on this author.

Ok

Nothing particularly new here. Another standard cray lioness whose purpose is to annoy her chosen mate. Getting a little tedious and repetitive.

Lions over the top

The illnesses are so outrageous they take away a lot from the plot. The hero is so sullen you want to beat him.

* To fully understand the story and the dynamics between characters you should read the previous books in the series.

After a tip-off, Stacey and Gaston's second in command Jean Francois head off to a tropical island to investigate some mysterious disappearances and the weird attitude of the hotel just bought by the pride. Stacey knows Jean Francois is a whampyr, but the heat of the island and the lack of clothing should thaw out some of his stoney appearance right?! Nobody said she couldn't have a little fun while doing a serious job. And when shit hits the fan, this lioness doesn't just growl.

Pro's:
+ This book feels like a very sexy Michael Bay movie. There is destruction, some very weird situations and a sexy nay to yay romance to keep you entertained until the very last page. I read this book in one go, unable to put it down. The flow of the story is really nice and it keeps you one the edge of your seat until the ending.
+ The interactions between Stacey and Jean Francois are very funny. In this book, the male lead is not afraid to be just as sarcastic as the lioness and I could really appreciate that. Also, the author totally threw me of with Jean Francois, in the previous book I thought he would be older and more 'grey', but in this entry he seems a lot younger.

Con's:
- I found it really disappointing that there was no reference to the bad guy of the previous book. I think that would have worked out a bit better than the confusing mess that is the bad guys in this entry. They didn't make any sense and the build-up to their reveal had nothing to do with earlier given information.
- Even after finishing there are still many mysteries surrounding the whampyrs and that makes the whole story and mystery a bit annoying. I have an idea what they are, but only because I read different Eve Langlais series in the same universe.

The action in this book is super awesome, but there are so many unfinished mysteries that it will leave you a bit unsatisfied in the end. The chemistry between Stacey and Jean Francois was really great, just as the action in general. The romance was also quite good, I'm a big fan of the nay to yay kinds of romances and I think these two characters go together really well. All in all really enjoyable, it reads away nice and perfect for a relaxing afternoon read.

When a Lioness Growls is the 7th book in A Lion's Pride series. I'd rate this book at 5 stars! This book can be read as a standalone, my personal opinion is that it is best read in order so that you know the secondary characters that are talked about in the story. I really enjoy Eve Langlais's style of writing. I know that when I pick up one of her books I will laugh and it will pick me up, and this book is no different.
Stacey is an event planner for the Pride, but don't let her job make you think that she's weak and ditzy, she is a lioness after all. Jean Francois/JF/Francois is a whampyr, Gaston's right hand man, and hates all lionesses after a previous bad experience with them. But Stacey is attracted and isn't going to let something like that stop her from going after what she wants. When they travel to one of the Pride's resorts in a virtual paradise, JF is not very thrilled to be babysitting a lioness as they investigate people going missing from the pride's resort.
The characters will make you laugh, but have great chemistry. There is a good amount of comedy, romance and action in this story in just the right proportions. Some of the characters will surprise you and others you aren't shocked when things happen (vague I know but I don't want to give anything away). If you like hot and steamy- you will definitely not be disappointed. If you like comedy and action, you will not be disappointed. Can't wait for the next book in the series (Melly's)! Hope this helps! Happy Reading!!!

This is a seriously funny read. Jean Francois (a.k.a. J.F. or Sweet Cheeks) and Stacey (a.k.a. crazy or princess) are a great pair. JF doesn't like shifters, especially lionesses, for personal reasons. Hid master, however, forces him to go on a trip with one such shifter, Stacey. Stacey is one of the crazies of the pride. She sets her sights on him almost as soon as they meet, the two butting heads at every turn, but that doesn't deter her from her pursuit. I love the back and forth banter between the two and their relationship is grand. JF tries as best he can to suppress his desire, to push her away. Nothing works though. Stacey pursues him with a ferocity that only a lioness can demonstrate. The results of their efforts make for a spectacular read.

Plus, the narrator did an amazing job capturing the personalities and reactions of the characters. Well done to both the author and the narrator.

Stacey and JF chemistry flies with a mutual attraction to each other. The story has some humor and reads quickly. I will continue reading the series.

Girl leads bit trashy

This is book 7 in a series I have been working my way through. I enjoyed the first few, hence continuing the series, but so far, the books that have focused on a female shifter as the primary main character (but are dual POV still) have been "trashier" feeling to me. I enjoy a good steamy scene, but these are women constantly talking about going without panties & bending over... Like, from the start of the book, not just as an extra spicy moment. There also seems to be less relational development than in the books that started the series, and were more focused on the make shifters perspective. I'm not quite ready to give up on the series, but it is otherwise well edited and well written, I am just struggling with finding the last few female leads as "trashy"/low class in how they house to present themselves.

Talk about playing hard to get! I never thought JF would come around. He was sooo cute though right? Thinking Stacey would let it go? Awww poor wittle whampyr! Book is mainly set in a different location a tropical island that Arik owns and something is amiss! Stacey is sent in to investigate and JF is ordered to look after her. He HATES that idea and constantly complains and is annoyed by Stacey. However, she eventually gets to him and well she's made it no secret she wants him. For keeps though? Nah thats not her style! Hmmm....we'll see! Will they unravel the mystery? Will he be able to keep his kitty out of trouble? Read and find out!

Loved it!

Ahh Eve does it again. A spunky, twisted, fun loving feline with violent snooty tendencies and a hot whampyre confused, frustrated, and totally turned on by his feline heroine. I would say this book is totally worth the wait but I hate waiting for Eve's books to come out! So far this series is binge worthy!!! The only complaint I have about this book is that it didn't tell me a release date for the next 😉. I love that the book makes me smile while reading. No it doesn't have sit on the edge of your seat suspense but it makes you laugh and shake your head. I would recommend this book if you want a feel good romance.

How can you not love this series. These "biatches" are kicking ass. When Stacey goes to check out one of the resorts the Arik owns, she has Jean François with her. JF keeps fighting the attraction he has for her. And Stacey is being, well Stacey. Flirting and tempting him at every turn. Man, was it tough reading JF trying to hold back. Thank goodness he finally feel into her arms, well actually Stacey fell into his. These two are perfect together. But then they are investigating what is going on at the resort, it is crazy fun.

I cant wait to read about Melly.

Oh my. All that sass. This book makes me want my own whampyr. Tall, dark, and brooding doesn’t even cover JF. Stacey is a hoot, she made me snort laugh so much, so very much. She is exactly what Francois needs. Exactly. I love how they grow as characters, and their reconnection is super steamy. And Jan, don’t get me started on Jan. I was cheering when paybacks came that way. If you're looking for a super great read, this is the baby for you. Scorching heat, a bit of twisty mystery, spunk, crazy gun toting ex’s, and sass.

The New and improved Scilly and Mulder team

Stacey and JP are on and venture that will change their lives. They are comical and romantic. Stacey makes it her mission to drive sweetcheeks crazy. He throws down the challenge and she accepts. Somebody are abducting woman from the resort and then the woman are remembering it when they return if they return. I want to be able to get bang out in the clouds. This was the first time I read a debut as an audio and don't know if it was faster or not but I loved it. Loved the book and cannot wait for the next one.

Not 5 stars because the plot seemed to have taken a back drop to their steamy attraction for each other and their constant inner monologues were distracting. Not to mention, we never found out what happened to his blood and why was it bad for someone to have it??

With that said, the hilariousness of each of the felines are so much that it makes you laugh continuously while reading this series. Those lions are never boring ...as one would say. And, blessed the person, who falls for their witty charms.

Can't wait for Melly's book, next....yay!

Funny and entertaining with a good story as usual but lacking romance for me. I found the first books much more romance based with the main H’s.
Whilst I thoroughly enjoyed reading this crazy fun book I came away feeling let down about the relationship between Stacey and Jean Francois.
Lots of spark, sex and hotness but no connection or real romance. JF just keeps saying NO all the way through, they have sex and then seem to be a couple.
Apart from this a very entertaining read and I liked the plot. Wonder what will come of this.

Hysterical!

Eve Langlais writes hot, sexy shifters like no one's business! And this is a puuuuurfect example. (Yes pun intended) The lionesses are at it again, or rather one in particular. Stacie is the party planning party girl. With outrageous clothes and a sex drive with no brakes, she has a certain male ready to rip out his own hair. Or whip out...something, because his lioness gets what she wants. And she wants Franciose.
I couldn't stop laughing at this comically enhanced story. And neither will anyone else!

A trip to tropical paradise with an uptight cutie, what’s a girl to do? Stacey and Jean Francois are investigating the disappearances of women at a resort owned by the pack.

Stacey and Jeans attraction is evident right from the start in this book. Jean tries to fight it but how can he win against a determined lioness? There’s action aplenty as well as a mystery to solve. Along the way is plenty of “the world revolves around me” attitude and don’t forget the “I am better then you” attitude too. Eve Langlais lion world is one that keeps me entertained start to finish.
