About 120 b&w and color photographs (including both movie stills and personal candids) along with detailed, informative captions, present a pictorial biography which follows the actor from his early films to his years as one of Hollywood's brightest and most admired stars. A brief introduction explores Stewart's approach to acting followed by chapters covering his childhood, his many and varied roles in theatre and films, his involvement in the U.S. Air Force and his lifelong passion for aviation, his off-screen role as a devoted husband and father, the influence of television on his later career, and awards and honors earned for his achievements. My grandmother is at an age now, in which she is unfortunately no longer able to read books that are written only, due to her eyesight worsening, but Jimmy Stewart is her favorite actor, so I was very happy to be able to buy her book about him that is predominately photos and that she can therefore still enjoy. This is light on the text and although I wish the font was just a touch bigger (for my grandmother's sake) it's not the very fine print you see captioning photos in many other books.
If you want an comprehensive biography of Jimmy Stewart, this isn't it. If you want a brief overview of his life and work and to revel in what a ridiculously fine looking man he was, look no further. Frankly, I liked this so much, I ended up buying another copy. One for my grandmother, and one for me.
