Cara Rossi’s life has been a mess ever since her identical twin was killed. She blames the mafia, its ways, and the people within the caustic culture for a painful reality that turned her world on its side. He’s the kind of man that makes it hard to say no.

Gian Guzzi’s problems are piling up fast. A murdered grandfather, an unpredictable mafia, and a new boss that threatens both his family’s legacy and his life. As a Cosa Nostra underboss, Gian has a duty. First to la famiglia, and only then to himself. In the midst of the violent uncertainty that has become unrelenting in his days, Cara Rossi should only be a distraction for him to enjoy.

I'm crushed. Holy moly, am I ever just crushed. How could this happen? The author took my heart from my chest and squeezed it into dust. That's how I feel right now.

If I were to be completely honest, I didn't have much love for Cara. I liked her from the glances of her I got in previous books. The general idea of her. And I was curious as to what had become of her... but the way her brain worked in this story kinda drove me nuts. She left me quite confused. I'm always lost when the heroine is somebody involved in the family in some way, whether through knowledge of what La Famiglia is or from growing up in the life, but goes against everything in the family. You grew up with this. You know it. You lived it.m Where did your money or lifestyle come from? Your brother is completely immersed in it, not to mention the rest of your family. And yet you want nothing to do with it and think that you're not involved, like no one knows who you are because you're not involved in the business. Do you know any mobster who has children or relatives of any kind and people don't know about those relatives? That not all of those relatives are directly involved in the life? And yet they can still be seen as targets. To me this girl was trying to survive on blind ignorance.

Ok, so little rant over. I did like the chick. I just haven't fallen in love with her. Yet.

As for Gian... I couldn't get enough of him. Literally. Couldn't get enough. I cannot wait for the next book to get even more of him. I liked the idea that he was fully immersed in the life and was aware of how to navigate it and still try to have something for himself. I liked that, despite the fact that it is duty, legacy, and then love, that he found a way to do that and still fall in love.

"I know you love me because I can count on one hand the times you've asked me for something, or needed something from me, or wanted just me until tonight. I can count on one hand, but I'd only need one finger to do it. Just tonight - that's the only time you've ever taken something from me that you wanted."

Did I like his motives or his lack of full disclosure? Absolutely not. Am I pissed at him? Absolutely yes! But I love him regardless. He was my favorite character of his entire book. I'm excited to see how things turn out in book two. I'm excited to see how he's going to turn things around. I'm kind of sick to my stomach with the idea of the situation he's in. It actually makes my stomach hurt very badly but I'm excited to see what the author is going to do with these two characters. How is she going to get them to the other end and have them thrive and be happy. I'm sure it's going to be a long road but I have no problem traveling it.

4 "yet to be unraveled" stars

This one is going to be short but with a punch point! Considering the book ends, not exactly with a cliffy, BUT with a certain anticipating need for a closure, and honestly I am really eager to find out how Bethany-Kris will resolve the matter...

cause to be honest, Unraveled left me in a bit of a "pissed off" state cause of the way the main character handled things...hmmm

there's no really huge revelation regarding the plot - it's a well known mafia storyline with well known action and premises to follow : a promininent made man, underboss Gian Guzzi was meant to be the leader, ends up closing the unfinished business in the Cosa Nostra, with the mafia boss and mafia men working against him,
What matters the most is that someone started a war, and I plan on finishing it.

he takes revenge, he deals with betrayals and he takes the pre-destined position...
Duty first. Legacy second. And only then, love

or so it looked like that, since the first time he layed his eyes on Cara Rossi. A Chicago mafia princess that stayed away from the mafia life or any kind of business related to it. She's in grief for her belated twin sister and she's learning to cope. The sight of Gian Guzzi, leads to attraction and desire and to a hook-up. And that's what it was meant to say...nothing more, nothing less...
BUT he wanted more...
He didn't want to only fuck Cara...he wanted to know her, too.

You don't ask for more, so I don't offer. But if you did ask, if you did want more, then I would try to give you that, too

and sequentially, Cara did...she fell for him, she accepted the way of his life and all things considered she was happy again. But then that all shattered when Gian's secret came into the spotlight and that was something she couldn't get over...nor she ever would.
All lies unravel, eventually, no matter how good you are at telling them.

And well, damn...I really liked Gian, at first, I loved him right somewhere nearing the end, and than a huge slap, Gian and his fuckin secret, I didn't like him very much or his poor excuses...

I'm really pissed not really cause of the nature of the secret BUT mostly cause of the WAY he withheld it. He should have come clean before he fucked with Cara's feelings and he should have given HER the choice to act upon it and make a decision on her own.

I seriously don't think there is going to be an easy way out of this complication, unless Bethany decides to use a more "final" result LOL *inserts evil grin* and that's why I want to see for myself...

What will you make Gian do, Bethany?!

Explosive is what comes to mind every time I read one of Bethany-Kris novels. The way this story unfold is heartbreaking and the mind fuckery wasn't what I'd been expecting, then again nothing ever does when it come to this queen of romance.

I can't say much about Gian & Cara because I'm afraid opening my mouth I'll give to much of the story away and that's certainly not my intent. But like everyone else I'll be sitting on pins and needles waiting for the next installment.

I quite enjoyed this story, though it wasn't as exciting as prior books I've read by this author. The connection between the main characters didn't seem as deep-rooted and the pace of the story was more on the relaxed/ slow side. The upside? My favorite part was the ending! Gian's juicy not-so-secret secret was delicious and unleashed a treasure chest of potentially messy drama for the upcoming book! I look forward to seeing how all of that plays out in book two!

First off, I blame the author for my puffy, red eyes this morning because I stayed up to finish this book. I couldn't go to sleep without finishing. I just couldn't.

Secondly, MY HEART. My freaking heart. The ending killed me. Even with signs of what was to come, I was not prepared for the pain. It's a Bethany-Kris book, so you know you're going to feel utterly hopeless before she pieces your heart back together.

Gian, I loved everything about him. How he always knew just what to say. How he always wore those damn suits. How filthy his mouth was during those sizzling sex scenes. But his secrets...oh his secrets killed me.

I loved Cara. She was stuck in a dark hole after the death of her sister, but Gian was a light at the top that helped her dig her way out. Gian was everything she didn't want, but exactly what she needed. She was just as filthy and hot in the bedroom (among other places).

I enjoyed meeting new 'family' members and catching up with Tommas a little too. There was action from the war going on between the younger and older generations of the Guzzi family. There was also mystery as to who was behind what and let me tell you.... The snakes were every freaking where.

Now I'll just sit here and nurse my poor heart until book 2.

HOLLY SHIT!!!
NO MANCHESS!!!

I've been wanting this book from the moment something very telling and tragic happened in the Chicago War series. While Bethany filled the time with many other amazing mafia romance stories and anti-heroes that I can't do without, this one was always in the back of my mind. Actually she has me waiting for another one too :) (Bethany, I'll give you a hint. One word, starts with L and ends with Y and has EGAC in the middle! Sorry, I digress. All this to say, it was worth the wait!

I don't know how she does it, but my Queen knows how to make my insides twist and turn. She always brings me to the edge, hangingon with all hope as I wonder how on earth she's going to make things out work? But she does, in spectacular fashion. I have faith she will do the same for Cara and Gian.

I anxiously await the second book!

There is always a push and pull whenever reading a mafia story. The life and demands are set in stone. But respect, power and control are always in flux when there is unrest within a family.

The Guzzi Familia is a long standing family in Toronto. But when the unexpected happens, Gian Guzzi, the underboss and grandson of The Boss, has to step up, but not all are happy. Dealing with the familia is stressful enough but enter Cara Rossi and Gian's life will never be the same.

Cara is is not your original mafia principessa. She has had lots of pain and suffering in her life, so much that living is a struggle. But on a whim, she goes out with a friend and meets Gian, a man that she has sworn that she would never want to be with. The mafia life is not for her and she vows that she will never fall for a mafia Prince.....but the heart doesn't always listen to the brain.

Cara and Gian become involved and it escalates into love. But Gian's life is embedded in the Familia and Cara must decide if love is worth all the doubts and fears.

I loved these characters. The passion and the commitment between Cara and Gian is fiery, combustible and erotic. Gian is cocky, arrogant and adoring. All the while being charming and commanding and a force of nature. Cara is spunky, opinionated and passionate. She is a broken soul that comes alive again upon meeting Gian. Together they are a perfect pair until they are not.

This ending is very emotional. While I was always a Gian fan, he withholds a secret that ruins everything. Once again the rules of the Cosa Nostra are firm and steadfast and Gian must follow and uphold. I'm alittle angry with Gian at the moment and I hope with the next book he makes me a fan again or Cara gets delicious revenge.

I have been waiting for this series and I was not disappointed.

This is the story of Gian Guzzi and Cara Rossi.

Cara has spent the past seven years away from her family in Chicago and all the dark baggage that comes with the mafia lifestyle. After recently losing her twin sister she lost a part of her self and her way in this world.

A night out in Toronto has her crossing paths with Gian Guzzi in his 3 piece suit exuding all his sexiness. A man she has no business getting mixed up with but all that charm has her drawn in.

Being the underboss of the Costa Nostra definetly has Gian very busy, but he could use a little enjoyment in his chaotic life and Cara is just the right woman for him

Cara and Gian were just having fun both a distraction to eachother but they found something in their relationship they were missing in life.

Unfortunately duty always calls and the truth will come out and all the lies be unraveled.

I really loved this book with all its Canadian references since that's where I am from and some of the scenes hitting so close to home.

Can't wait to see what awaits us in the second book.

MEN DO NOT DESERVE ANY RIGHT AND ALL THOSE SPECIMENS SHOULD BE ERADICATED FROM EARTH AND GO DIRECTLY TO HELL. THEY ARE ALL SMELLY CHEATING LIYNG BASTARDS AND GIAN GUZZI IS FIRST ON THE LIST!

Now seriously, I loved this book (not counting those last three fateful chapters), there's just something about books set in dangerous places, where the main character is this dangerous and kinda deadly person, but he's all sweet and soft with the love interest. My girl Cara is an angel and I want to protect her from everything bad, although she is very capable of doing it alone and we love her for it. And Gian Guzzi, that bitch better crawl asking for forgiveness in the second book even though he will never fully deserve my baby anymore.

Unraveled (Guzzi Duet #1) by Bethany-Kris
4 stars!!!

“He touched. He demanded. Her body reacted.”

Bethany-Kris is one of my favourite Mafia authors and once again she has delivered with Unraveled. Unraveled is the first book of a duet and to say that I am itching for the next one would be a severe understatement. It seems Bethany-Kris certainly knows how to end a book and keep the reader well and truly on the hook. We should only have a couple of months to wait, but still, I desperately need the next one. For me this was a quick read, the pages turned at the rate of knots, loved the action both in and out of the sheets, the character connection was on point and the chemistry between these two characters was seriously hot!! This one ticked all my mafia boxes.

Gian Guzzi is a made man, the underboss, a man being groomed for the position by his grandfather. When the time comes though for Gian to take the reins it seems the older generation of the Canadian famiglia of the Cosa Nostra have other ideas. This is where all the Mafia action takes, a battle of wills, a battle of minds, a battle of tactics and a battle of loyalty. Everything that makes Mafia books the crack they are.

“What matters the most is that someone started a war, and I plan on finishing it.”

Gian was everything a made man should be, he was an enigma, he was professional, but in his personal life he was totally different. Gian was a closet romantic, a filthy talker, bilingual with that perfect blend of Italian and French, a sharp dresser, inherently handsome and dominant and quite frankly Cara Rossi never stood a chance.

“Some people do say the Guzzi blood is made of nothing but gold, luck, and dirt.”

Cara Rossi was a Chicago mafia princess that had stayed away from the city and the family life. Cara and her twin had settled in Canada, far, far away from everything that Cara hates. Cara is drowning in grief and has been a recluse for months until one of her friends holds an intervention. Cara and Gian’s paths cross and herein begins one seriously hot, intense and all-consuming romance. What started out as a one night stand soon morphs into more but Gian is everything that Cara doesn’t want…until she does.

“Be where, or with whom, or do whatever you need to do to be happy. Take that risk—it’s worth it. Because this life is fleeting, and tomorrow might be the last time you smile, so it’s better to spend today happy.”

With any Mafia romance, you always know that these men play their cards extremely close to their chests and Gian is no different. Gian knows that Cara is extremely skittish and while he knows that she knows who he is, he doesn’t want to entrench her into his “life” until she is ready. Cara is kept on the periphery at her own choice, but the longer their relationship continues the more she is tempted to take the next step. Gian is so protective of her, incredibly infatuated and hopelessly in love which to be honest is probably some of the reasons for certain omissions. A relationship built on secrets is never healthy and it is here that Bethany-Kris certainly ramps up this story.

“Don’t you think it’s a little sad that you love someone who is just waiting for the other shoe to drop?”
“I think it’s sad that the woman I love feels like she has to wait on that at all.”

Yes, I will admit tears were shed, quite a few in fact and I cannot wait to see how Bethany-Kris gets Gian out of this particular sticky situation. Unraveled though was the perfect balance of Mafia plot and an all-consuming, where both parts were just as addictive as the other. The chemistry and the between the sheets scenes were seriously off the charts and Bethany-Kris certainly brought these characters to life. I think August should be when book two is released, I know that I for one will be eagerly anticipating that one. I seriously need it now!!

English:
" Unraveled" by Bethany-Kris is the first book in the "Guzzi Duet" series. This is the first book that I read of this author, and I already had a lot of interest. This book consists of a romance within a universe with mafia bosses and power.

Cara Rossi, 25, suffers her twin sister's death and just wants to find peace and stay away from everything connected to the Mafia. But she meets Gian, 29, grandson of the boss of the mafia, in a club and he will make her impossible for him to leave. When Gian's grandfather dies, he will have to take the reigns and find his mentor's killer.

Cara is a princess of the Chicago mafia, a character from the "Chicago" series that I haven't read yet. She is a character who throughout the book shows the phases of mourning after her sister's death, and therefore, gives her a lot of charisma. Gian is a character who captured me very much. He's a dark man who will take away anyone who is against him. He is also the perfect lover with his dirty mouth and his demands in and out of bed. Apart from these aspects that make him sexy and alpha, we must also add that he is charming and protective with those who get in the way of his famiglia. The relationship of these characters is passionate and although in the end, everything changes, I hope that the next one clarifies many unsolved details.

Unraveled by Bethany-Kris is the first part of the Guzzi Duet . It's a two-part series and books are about the same couple and should be read in order.

Unraveled starts the story of Cara Rossi and Gian Guzzi . Having survived the tradegy of losing her twin, Cara moves to Canada hoping to forget about all the troubles Family gave to her. But it seems that Fate has other things in store for her. There she meets Gian who is far from being a simple human being.

He meets her when she is still hurt by the death of her sister. She mourns her and refuses to let it go. One night in the club leads to a chain of events that will change their lives forever. Bullets, explosions, fights, wolves in sheep's clothing become their norm and their feelings are getting hotter until one secret ruins it all.

I loved the way Bethany described her characters. They are strong, real survivors who being brought up in this cruel world managed to stay human.

Bethany in her typical fashion mamaged to blow your mind and made a masterpiece of this topick. Just when you think nothing can surprise you more in the mafia world, she DOEST it and leaves you speechless. She rocks this world like a real MAFIA QUEEN she is. I'm dying here waiting for the second part and the continuation of their story.

Review

I don't know how Bethany-Kris does it but she does it all the damn time. And by it I mean leaving me with a racing heart. Throwing in unexpected events I often don't see coming. Making me fall head over heel in love with her characters. And leaving me wanting more.

And I WANT MORE!

Unraveled was packed with unexpected love, endless loyalty, unwarranted obligations and startling and painful betrayals.

The story introduced us to Gian Guzzi who was briefly mentioned in Breathless and Bloodstained, Book 4 in the Chicago War Series. We're also introduced to Cara Rossi who was also in the Chicago War Series. If you've read the Chicago war series then you're aware that she is Tommas Rossi and late twin Lea Rossi's sister.

We get to see the progression of Gian and Cara's relationship as well as their individual feelings. Cara is still trying to figure out life without her sister. She has always been the quiet type and always kept to herself but that escalated with the loss of her sister. She finally decides to go out and for one night wants to be someone that isn't ridden with hurt and pain. And on this night out she meets the infamous Gian Guzzi.

And Gian - sigh. I fell for Gian Guzzi from the very first page he was introduced. The way he held himself, behaved, his personality - I don't know... it was just everything about him that made my heart beat a little faster than normal... And then like Cara I fell for him. Although Cara despised the world she's from and she actively tried to stay away from the men in her world, she was surprised that she was so drawn to Gian. They both connected from the very beginning and the more they saw each other the more their feelings for each other escalated. But little did we know what was really in store for the couple.

We also have some very surprising revelations related to the characters as well as the mafia side of the story. There are issues between the different generations within the Cosa Nostra and they're all butting heads. The mafia story line was very interesting and very engaging from the very first page. Honestly though, if the mafia aspect of a mafia romance sucks then what's the point of the book?

Ms. Bethany Kris continues to deliver a highly engaging plot with consistent story lines and characters that differ from one book to another! The characters were well developed and so were their relationships. It had the perfect balance of action, family, friendship and of course romance with a bit (ha, a lot) of heat and passion.

I cannot wait for the second book. My heart actually hurts for certain characters and I have no clue how it's all going to come full circle. It's such an unusual situations and I seriously have no clue what to think! Let the wait begin.

REALLY!!!!!

Dang I cannot believe it ended like that!!!!! I am dying here. I can't believe I am going to have to wait for the next one.

This was definitely a roller coaster of emotions. I have to take a breather. The only thing I will give away is that it doesn't end well.

I really liked Cara. At first I thought that she was just blinded by Gian, but low and behold she sure proved that theory wrong. I cannot believe what he did and there looks like there isn't a way to correct the situation in sight.

It definitely will be interesting how this plays out.

Lots of hot and dirty loving so be prepared.

ahhhhhhh! did that really just happen???!! I NEED more pronto!

I literally marathoned through this book in literally 5 hours. Start, Stop, Done and I'm literally at a lost on what to do with myself. I went in like " Oh ok this is Cara's book who we initially met in the Chicago War series, the twin who lived" and now I'm like "OMFG Cara! I love Cara she definitely has backbone and doesn't settle for less than she deserves! She's my lady crush!"

And Gian Guzzi, our hot Italian Frenchmen. Yep you heard me correctly he's a fine specimen in Armani armor that can woo you in French and Italian. Talk about a double whammy!

This is another great Mafia Romance that hits the spot. There's a perfect balance of romance, drama and action. As with any of Kristen's book there is always a game in play and with Unraveled there are secrets that come out of the woodwork that knocks you off your axis. I can't wait to dive back in for more Gian and Cara!

“The taste of you could kill me, Cara. I'd eat you, morning, noon, and night, and I wouldn't even think about anything else. It would kill me.”

Okay, confession time first. I was only reading this book because of Cara. And I may be the unpopular opinion in here, but I was never enamored in Gian. Cara has been through a lot. She escaped Chicago, together with her twin Lea, so that she'll be away from the Outfit. She never wanted anyone who're in the lifestyle because all it brought to her was heartache and more heartache.

Gian was inevitable, though. He was like a force to be reckon with. Someone you couldn't say no. And it wasn't in a puddle like state or that Cara has become mindless or anything (like in other heroines that women became sex-starved and idiots) but in a Gian-is-irresistible-and-sex-personified kind of thing. I mean, come on! The man can speak three languages!

“Tell me, is there any place in the good book that explains how much of a sin it has got to be that you can manage to be that attractive and charming in three languages?”

But, as the saying goes, that all perfect men are. I'll letyou think about that.

So my interest was Cara, and how she is. And how that scene in Chicago Wars became (that's in Tommas story btw). And I want a her to be happy. To be a queen, pampered and loved.

And this book has just gutted me! What in the ever-loving fuck Gian! What in the ever loving fuck Bethany-Kris! Ohmyfuckinggod its been days but I haven't still get over it! OMG shit, the feels for this book! I wanted to start a Chicago War all over again.

The only thing that held me for giving this a full five-star is that well, I wish there was more killing. Rather than power play. Because well, it ain't mafia if there aren't anyone tortured for me.

And I cannot wait for the Book two! OMG please please please! Let there be killing and all. I don't how you author you will do this, but I hope it hurt so bad!

"You're mine, Cara. I love you. Nothing else matters."

appp

I have read close to if not all of BK's books, and Unraveled is by far hands down the best novel she has written to date! I have never been so invested in a storyline quite like this one before.

You will be biting your nails, hands on the edge of your seat. Fearing what is next to come. So many unexpected twists, you wont see coming!

Lets get this out of the way, you will fall hard for GIAN! There is just something about him...Tall, dark, handsome, and deadly. I get goosebumps just thinking about him. I would definitely have his
BABIES!

"Stop making me Remember. It hurts."

Cara is broken. She lost her other half, her twin. She is breathing, but dead inside. Tired of everything, and would rather stay clear of the family name.

Gian Guzzi is everything she told herself to stay clear from. But she falls in love with him anyway. And that is her downfall......she let's him in, he breaks those thick walls she built up, and when Cara finds out those secrets he has been hiding from the very beginning..... she has no more tears to shed. Her heart is broken, shattered in a million pieces. She trusted a man, who in turn destroyed her world.

Betrayal, Corruption, Death, and Despair.

Gian and Cara are perfectly imperfect.
She is his weakness, and he can't have any weaknesses. These two were doomed from the start.

The real question is, will they make it out alive in this wicked game of power?

Read to find out!

Unraveled is a jaw dropping, heart palpitating, intense, raw, novel. It's a book that will forever stay with you. Gian and Cara's story is truly unique and a major tear jerker! Get ready for one wild ride.

*This book was reviewed for Summer's Eve Reads*

Title: Unraveled (Guzzi Duet #1)
Author: Bethany-Kris
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Rating: 4/5

From what I've been led to believe Bethany-Kris is know as a Mafia Queen in the book writing world and after reading this I'd have to agree, she sure knows how to knock out an impressive and hard to forget mafia story.

This was filled with so much emotion it was a story of forbidden love with some heart wrenching moments, there was danger and suspense, it was an all-round action packed read which kept me captivated from start to finish.

Gian's an alpha-male he's strong and commanding danger oozed from him, he's the sort you love to hate as-well as hate to love especially when his big secret was revealed, Cara was a girl who appeared to carry the world on her shoulders yet her inner strength showed through. The chemistry between Gian and Cara was off the charts but what they shared was definitely a love story with many difficulties everyone was against their relationship.

This was a well written story with great character development. Bethany-Kris done an amazing job she's one talented lady even though there's this tiny part of me that really dislikes her right now and that's down to the fact that she's left me desperately waiting to see what's going to happen next.

I will be right here patiently waiting on Part 2.
