Caroline has seen her brother Jamie find his mate, and his happily ever after. However, she can’t see the same happiness ever being hers since the man she loved died. Not that he would ever have been hers, fate had seen to that. But no matter how many times she reminds herself he belonged to another, her heart is still in pieces.
So a chance to climb a mountain, to ask reclusive movie star Eden Carter about some land, seems like the perfect opportunity to put her thoughts in order and let go of the past. Little does she know; her future is waiting for her at the top of the mountain - if she can only persuade him to come back down.
Everyone wanted a piece of him. Carter Eden was at the height of his career when an incident involving a fan made him turn his back on that life. Now his mate is here, and he knows that the only way they will ever be happy is if he deals with his past and goes back to the real world with Caroline.
Harmony Raines loves to write romance filled with magic and love. Her men are usually not so alpha, but they know how to treat their fated mates, or alien lovers well.

Just my way of saying thank you for giving my books a try.
Dang! This one got to me big time. I've dealt with anxiety and depression/Bipolar most of my life and it was a little hard for me once or twice but then depression and suicide are sensitive issues. I gotta say that Harmony handles this subject beautifully! This book is perfect! Thank you, Harmony for daring to tackle a subject that a lot of people (including authors) are afraid to touch.
Caroline has been watching how happy her brother is since finding his mate, getting married and his wife having a baby. She wants what he has but she's not about to admit that to anyone. She has a lot on her mind so when her boss asks her to trek up the mountain to ask the hermit bear (former movie star) Carter to sell him some of his land, she knows it is the perfect opportunity to clear her head while alone for a couple days walk up and back.
Carter has been hiding up on his mountain for 3 years trying to deal with the guilt he feels concerning a tragic incident from his past. The second he lays eyes on Caroline, he knows she is his mate. She knows it too but is not as quick to admit it. But how could this ever work between them? Carter lives all alone, hiding from the world, on a mountain and Caroline loves spending time with friends and family. She is a very social person. Will Carter leave his mountain to come back to Bear Creek with Caroline?
Great second story in the series. Caroline heads up the mountain to get Chance, an actor who has retired to a cabin in the mountain. Never expecting to meet her mate. Sweet story with some steamy moments.
I thought for sure the reporter was pretending to be someone she's not, I don't know why I was suspicious of her. I'm glad Caroline got her happily ever after.
I really liked this book. I love this author and find her characters rich and very real. This series is a lot of fun and I enjoyed reading these books.
Mountain Bear is one of those stories that have a ring of dealing with real life. Caroline is ex-Army learning how to live in the civilian world once again. The man she’d had a crush on for years, even though she knew he wasn’t her mate, died and she is still dealing with the reality of never finding closure. Never acknowledging her happiness for him that he found his mate, even if it wasn’t her. Now his death is constantly on her mind, even when she’s drawn the short straw to make a trek up the mountain to speak to a man who now lives in solitude about property that Will and the new branch of the learning center could make very good use of next to their own property. She has no grand illusions that he’ll allow them the use of the land, but it’s a good excuse to spend some time alone, coming to grips with what has turned into her own reality now. She expected to find a lone hermit on the mountain – not her mate.
Carter stepped away from the world he once knew, once loved to live off of the land, to in some fashion make amends for his actions years ago. He is at home here on the mountain. As much at peace as he can be. People leave him alone up here, and that’s perfectly fine with him. Until today when he caught the scent of someone – how could his mate have known to seek him out up here?
Caroline and Carter are two wounded souls who not only need each other because of their mate bond, but also for the understanding that each has for the other’s situation. They both need closure on their pasts. Caroline doesn’t have an easy way to do that but she’s trying. Carter can find closure, but he has to come down off the mountain, take up the reins of his life once more and face what sent him into solitude.
Mountain Bear is a lovely romance of two people learning to deal with their reality. There are no fights, no fast paced action – only caring, learning to adjust and the people who will help them each on that journey. We’ll meet people from the first story in this series once again, and possibly be introduced to a few new people who will play a part in Bear Creek one day soon. I enjoyed this one very much. Sometimes all I’m looking for is a good love story with some solvable issues – that’s exactly what I found in Carter and Caroline’s story.
If you’re in the mood for a good shifter love story then I’d highly recommend this one and the rest of the series as well. You’ll find a loving couple, a supportive town and people you’d love to have as neighbors. Not everything is solved by having it’s head bashed in, sometimes closure and common sense win the day.
I read this title through mu Kindle Unlimited subscription.
I really enjoyed this story. I thought Caroline and Carter were great together and I thought it made their connection even better that Caroline hadn’t seen any of Carter’s movies so she wasn’t a fan so she liked Carter for the person he actually is and not just the movie star Carter Eden. I found it funny how Caroline thought that Carter was basically blowing his own horn when he said that as soon as people hear that he’s back in civilisation the press will come knocking, she has no idea how famous he actually is. I also liked that Carter was extremely honest even with Walt who he’d fired as the groundskeeper at his estate when he went up the mountain to his cabin and become a hermit after the situation with Fern, who was a fan of Carter’s and thought that she was in love with him and snuck into his trailer and didn’t think how bad it would look since not only is Carter 10 years her senior but she was only 15 years old so when Carter found her in his trailer he freaked out and she got kicked off the lot and she ended up going home and sl*ting her wrists afterwards so as soon as Carter heard he decided to remove himself from doing movies and society in general as he didn’t want for Fern to have relive everything every time she sees his face on the screen, as Carter thought that he was fully to blame for her trying to k*ll herself but she had a sh*tty childhood so that’s why she latched onto him. I liked that with the help of Fiona both Carter and Fern got their closure about what happened between them. I’m looking forward to reading Fern’s story next as if anyone is in need of a forever love and happily ever after it’s her. I’d definitely recommend this book, series, universe and author to everyone.

When Carter Eden, famous actor, runs from his luxurious life he goes all out. Buying himself a mountain he becomes a hermit in his secluded primitive cabin. As a were bear he's able to avoid people if they try to find him. But it's been 3 years and when Caroline, bear shifter, ex Army, and his soul mate appears, he's ready to be found. Overcoming past distress, returning to civilization and reclaiming his humanity is daunting for Carter. But the steadfastness and honesty of his mate provides him the strength and understanding to transition back to the real world, and help transform into the trustworthy supportive person he can be. Caroline has her share of issues and misgivings but together, through honesty and dedication to each other she and Carter will find the compromise that makes their lives complete. Again, the community of Bear Creek and it's residents are caring, funny and helpful, including a wily old Dragon shifter. They really complete this novella. Wish there were more of this series, although Bear Bluff is great too.
Caroline and Carter story was really good. I love these two characters and it has been a while since I have found two characters like them. Carter has been up on the mountain for several years basically a hermit . Then one day a woman is sitting on his cabin porch and he realizes the significance to his life when he lays eyes on her. Carter carries baggage and if he is going to be able to go down the mountain he will need to figure things out.
Caroline is ex-military and she's on a mission to find the man who owns the property that is needed in order for them to complete their center. She too is a bear shifter and realizes immediately when they lay eyes on each other that they are fated mates.
A lovely enjoyable read. We met Caroline in book one under hugely sad circumstances. Caroline has left the military life and come home to Bear Creek. Her childhood friend whom she had a huge crush on, had found his mate and she had never been able to congratulate them. Now he and his wife are dead and her feelings of guilt are huge even knowing they would never have been mates. Caroline offers to head up the mountain on behalf of Will to talk to the stubborn hermit who lives up there in regards to some land he owns. Surprised is how Caroline feels, when she realises Carter is her mate. Carter Eden was a famous movie star until a fan changed his thinking and his fate. Finding his mate on his mountain he realises his life will have to change.
Mountain Bear, book 2 of Return to Bear Creek series by Harmony Raines, is an entertaining paranormal bear shifter novel. The book is short, approximately 126 pages, but packs some steam in a very short space. The characters are not as well developed as I would like but again for a novella that is not unusual. However, since it is part of a larger series, some of the more colorful characters, Fiona the Dragon shifter social worker comes to mind, are returning characters, there is time across books for the main characters of Mountain Bear , Caroline and Carter, to evolve.
Cute and sweet novella with a touch of heat, Mountain Bear, is the perfect winter day interlude!
At the end of book one we get a teaser of this book and I was excited to see Caroline get her story. She was really likeable and you could feel the pain from her past. Seeing her slowly making be forward was an experience. I like Carter. He had a heart of gold and his own daemons to battle and when he finally did he was a lot easier for me to love.
The plot was fast paced, mates find each other, demons from the past come and they work through their issues. It was a like able story with 2 great characters. I will read more in this series. I still had wish that shifting and shifters were a bigger part of the plot line. 4 stars #2OCCJD
I really enjoyed this book. The story flowed so easily that got me glued to the very end. Caroline is x military, no nonsense bear shifter that has moved to Bear Creek to help and support her brother and his 2 adopted children. Having to go up the mountain to talk to the reclusive movie star, the last thing she expects is to come face to face with her fated mate. Carter is a bear shifter and famous movie star that decided to lived a reclusive liveafter a near tragedy he feels responsible for. When he meets his mate he will have to decide what to do next. Highly recommended
Meaningful story about individuals who come together from different perspectives and life experiences. There's the movie star who turned recluse following a jolt to his perception of self, the tank commander who is trying to find herself in civilian life, and the whole community of shifters, their spouses, and even a social worker who is also a dragon shifter! The mated pair find their way, and the whole community benefits. An excellent read which touches on several mental health issues in a very positive way while providing escape for the reader.
He has a past, she has a past. I know there's a lot of people that would love to run away from your problems go and live on a mountain and not see anyone again. Well Carter has done just that, untill Caroline shows up at his door. Now he is off his mountain and his life is better than he could have imagined. I enjoyed this book. It proves that love will find you no matter where you hide. If you believe that then this is a book for you.
I like that these stories are so character oriented. You really get to know them. We met Caroline in book 1 Daddy Bear and now it is her turn. Carter is hiding away in the mountains because of something that happened in his movie set. I won't say any more. Just read this to see how they earn to handle their pasts.
This relaxed pace, gentle storyline that is totally focused on the characters and is also a fun read with some good lines. Read the Bear Creek and Bear Bluff series before you read this series. You will like it!
I am really enjoying this series Return to Bear Creek By Harmony Raines book One was a great but Mountain Bear book Two is my favorite so far , I love how Carter was affected so much by his encounter with a teenage fan hidden in his changing trailer (movie star trailer) that would leave his career end go to live in the Mountains ,feeling so bad how he over reacted to Fern (the teenager that hid in his trailer)until his mate Caroline finds him . I recommend 18 end up .
Caroline takes on a job to go find a long lost actor in the mountains of Bear Cliff for a project her company is working on. Will this grumpy old bear in the high mountains come of his high horse, or will he stay there and keep wallowing in his guilt from years past? Well in order to find out, you need to grab a copy and read read read because I do not like to spoil things. This book was full of laughs and renewals of friendships and most important, forgiveness and closure :-)
Carter and Caroline as different as night and day. Due to an incident in his younger life Carter retreated to the mountains of Bear Creek and due to unrequited love Caroline felt she would never truly know what love is or even if she wanted it. In steps fate and they see that there is always room for love. This is a beautiful series and I recommend it for anyone that loves PNR
Running away is not always the answer if you are a bear
Caroline needs to work through her problems after leaving the army and trip up the mountain to talk a hermit movie star into donating some property. Eden Carter did not want to come off the mountain but his bear did not want to let his mate out of his sight. Well-written with well-developed characterization this adult book is great for a afternoon read due to sexual content.
Wow another awesome book by Harmony Raines ! I loved getting to read this book. The people and shifters of Bear Creek comes alive in the story. Its like you're right there . I can see it unfold in the words . Thanks for this great book . I love these shifter books more then I expected. Harmony brings them to life as no other I've read so far. I'm looking forward to reading the next installment of the Bear Creek saga !
Another great story from an author who never disappoints.
I just love reading a story by Harmony Raines. I have never read anything of hers that I didn't thoroughly enjoy. If her name is on the cover you know you're in for a great read. A good interesting story that leads up to a great happy ever after. And if it's part of a series you don't lose the characters you made friends with in the pervious stories. They come along for the ride.
I couldn't put this down, the story line is about a movie star becoming a hermit after a fan tries to commit suicide when he turned her down. How many people have gone through this same scenario within their own lives, not just with a famous person. This not only has an alpha male but also an alpha female. 5 stars and I definitely recommend this book as well as the series. I can't wait to start the next book.
I like how they met but I felt the fern thing was creepy.he was in his rights a under age girl creeps into his cabin he kicks her out.he did nothing wrong.the whole he thinks of her like a sister and please stay in this town I pay your rent is misplaced guilt when he did nothing wrong it make it like she was out to get a little of him made me feel sorry or caro
Jamie and Carter's story is filled with complexities you will find in real life. There are no evil guys out to get anyone, just true emotions, both sad and joyful, which need to be faced and dealt with. I am already in love with the series! Truth be told...I have not read a book written by Harmony I did not enjoy and I doubt I ever will!
Bear Creek or Bear Bluff, I love then all. This was a sort of coming of age story although the characters are all grown. A hard mixed army retiree and a recluse actor made for interesting dynamics. Glad to see old characters make an appearance also. What happens next, I can't wait to find out... Maybe a dragon story?
Kindle Unlimited standalone in shifter series. When she's assigned a job she always comes out on top. At least that's until she meets her match (in many ways). He cannot believe his mate just showed up at his hidden cabin. Can she convince him to come off the mountain? Can they overcome each other's hidden secrets?
This is a series about a bear shifter community. For the most part, each book is focused more on the physical aspect of each bear finding his/ her mate and not too much on plot or character development.
There is some plot in this one involving the reason why Carter chose to separate himself from the world, but it's still kind of thin.
