A shocking twist of fate reunites a quiet school teacher with her childhood nemesis and greatest love.

Shy and modest Lina Montez has been infatuated with Tobias Langthorne, heir to a Napa Valley land fortune, for as long as she can remember. Growing up alongside the intoxicatingly handsome bully on his family’s fabled vineyard and estate was an experience she will never forget. The young “lord of the manor” spent countless hours tormenting the housekeeper’s daughter as well as inspiring her budding sexual desire.

Ten years later Lina finds Tobias as provocative and dangerous as ever, but embittered by divorce and haunted by his own demons of the past. Now Lina must battle her old playmate to save the land she loves, but this time she won’t be intimidated by her sexually magnetic business partner. The biggest struggle of all, however, is the one within herself. Can she fight off an attraction that is as ripe and full bodied as the lush cabernet grapes they farm? And will she breathe new life into the forsaken ranch as well as polish the rust from her tarnished hero?

Lina Montez has had a crush on Tobias Langthorne, heir to a Napa Valley land fortune, since she was a little girl. But as the daughter of the Langthorne's maid, Lina knew she would never be good enough for him. But that didn't stop Tobias from tormenting and teasing her at every opportunity.
Years later Lina and Tobias find themselves back at the Langthorne estate and in close quarters once again. And this time the tension between them is undeniable.

Wish I’d listened to other reviewers

Thought this read bordered on abuse in the first chapter and to be honest Tobias comes over as being very predatory and Lina a very immature gullible girl. Story was very weak and the constant sexual conversations and relationship that developed was not endearing or pleasant, I skipped a lot of the book hoping it would get better but it didn’t. Not a prude and like a good sexy book but again felt uncomfortable with Tobias character throughout the book.

I read this on audible. The story was ok. However, Lena's seemingly continual mutterings about 'Tobias Langthorne' was irritating to say the least!

"The Best Thing I've Read In Over A Week Or So"🐶🐶❤❤

This was the best audiobook I've listen to over the last two weeks. Tessa Bowen is a very visual author. I was able to see everything she described in this novel. The long dirt road, all the bunches of grapes hanging, the big red barn, all the workers moving around the farm, the white cottage that she and her Momma lived in and of course the main house. Her storyline was very explicit and I was able to close my eyes and wish my way into to everything. The two main characters Toby and Lena you could tell that there was a love that extended from childhood into adulthood throughout the storyline and they both not just one have been fighting that love from that that time up to now. Toby for it but he knew deep down inside that he love Lena from way back and then Lena knowing that she had loved him from way back started to fight and try to get him out of her heart when she do that she wasn't able to. I think Jonathan was the only one who was able to see the truth show their love. even though he saw the gas wanting to stay at the home he knew deep down inside that he wanted that house and he knew that he wanted it to stay there with Lena but he was just as scared as she was he was scared to step out on love because he had never really loved a woman like he had loved her.

I have to comment on my narrator Logan McAllister she was AWESOME all in capital letters he did a terrific job both side of the fence he did a great Toby and even a greater job as Lena, I am not kidding you. He also did an AMAZING job with the other characters adding an great cast. Some made have asked how will he handle both major characters and the extra well, he just did it!!! And, a great job, I am so proud of him he deserves every Accolade that he has coming to him for his role as both the major characters hi I have to give it to him so I definitely recommend this book to fellow listeners and I have to admit that I had gone back and listen to several parts of the book again so I've stretched it out even longer because I was enjoying it very much so I probably would have grown tired of it if it was a boring novel but there was nothing boring about this book and I know I will pick it up and listen to it again. I wish I could give Tessa more than 5-⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐s for it because she deserves it and Logan I wish I could give you more than 5-⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐s because you well endow deserve more. Thank you for allowing me to share in your story.

Valley Fever is the first in The Langthornes of Napa Valley series and can be enjoyed as a stand-alone book.

Tobias (Toby) Langthorne grew up as the privileged prince of a Napa Valley cabernet grape vineyard in high demand. He hates his father, respects nobody, and doesn't want anything to do with Langthorne Ranch. His good looks and wealth attract plenty of female attention and he hooks onto a popular girl who wants out of their small town too.

Catalina (Lina) Montez is the only child of the single mom housekeeper of Langthorne Ranch. She is very shy and has a young girl crush on handsome Tobias. Tobias torments her constantly as they grow up. She becomes a teacher and moved away as an adult. Her mother has died but she has working friends on the vineyard still.

A decade later, Toby is divorced and his father passed away. To everyone's surprise he left half the estate to Toby and half to Lina. Toby wants to sell and move on. Lina wants to preserve her fond memories of her childhood home. They still have animosity toward each other and sexual chemistry. Lina discovers for the first time that her mother and Toby's father had a long term love affair. Toby blames it for his mother's misery and eventual death. They agree to keep the vineyard through one harvest and re-evaluate. A lot happens over the summer and fall. Can they find a compromise about the land? Can they resist their pull toward each other? Can they overcome other obstacles that come along?

I listened to the audiobook version of this book.
This was such a great listen! The story and characters were well developed and they were so easy to love. This was also a little bit of a slow burn just because Lina was somewhat awkward and conflicted in what she wanted. I did find it a little odd that Lina was still as obsessed with Toby as an adult as she was as a younger teenage. After a while the whole internal dialogue of "Tobias doing this, Tobias doing that, Tobias doing....." got little irritating, especially towards the end but I guess it was consistent with Lina as a character. I also found it odd that Toby referred to himself in third person. I also find it interesting that Lina genuinely liked Toby as well as she did considering how he bullied her so much growing up. However, the author is really able to show their love for each other as well as the devastation they felt during a suprising twist. The steamy scenes between Lina and Toby were super hot and very well written. Overall, this was a super heartwarming book with a lot of emotion. Excellent writing.

The narration was absolutely fantastic. This narrator was definitely a good fit and he was able to bring out all of the emotion throughout the story. First time listening to him but I hope it definitely won't be my last.

I received a review copy at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review.

The wonderful author offered me this book so I could leave some feedback. She warned me up front to not give up on the ever so complex Tobias. Admittedly, I thought she was lying to me about him coming out as a hero but I’m glad I stuck it out!

Lina was the housekeepers daughter who always had a crush on Tobias but was always picked on and bullied growing up. Fast forward a few years and it comes to light that Lina’s mom and Tobias’s dad had an affair. After reading the Will left by Tobias’ father, Lina and Tobias find out the farm was left to them. Lina wants to restore the farm and Tobias can’t seem to get rid of it fast enough.

Tobias is always brooding and no doubt a total a-hole. When circumstances force the two of them to spend more time together, the complexity of both these characters really comes out.

Tobias has found something (or someone) that he is willing to change his ways for and protect at all costs. Lina discovers that she’s stronger than she has ever given herself credit for. They are both just so much more than they ever imagined and it comes together so beautifully.

Napa Valley is close to my backyard and whenever I visit the area I always dream about what romance could be taking place between the vines. I will definitely be thinking about Tobias and Lina!

I started off not loving this book, in large part because in the first chapter younger Tobias was awful. I rapidly realised this was some very clever writing on Tessa's part - all part of the character arc. I love me a redeemable a-hole. I am so glad I stuck with it.

The pace of the book picks up quickly after the first chapter or so. The character development was rich and I rapidly became invested in the outcome for Lina and Toby. I like that it was not a straightforward happily ever after, their is some turmoil in their journey - I enjoy a bit of journey in my books! I particularly loved how caring and attentive Toby is in later chapters...swoon!

Something reviewers on amazon seemed surprised about, there is lots of well written sexy-time - which I LOVED!

I devoured this book in less than 24 hours and felt a bit hungover at the end. Fortunately my journey with The Langthornes is not quite at an end... onwards to Book 2.

Massive bonus points, the book is available on Kindle Unlimited and I am seriously tempted to give the Audiobook a try on this weeks commute....

Catalina "Lina" Montez has been in love with Tobias Langthorne most of her life. She was the daughter of the vineyard's housekeeper and a constant irritation Tobias. They both inherit Langthorne when Tobias' father dies. The reason why is revealed as the story progresses. Lina is no longer a minor and Toby is getting over a divorce. They begin spending time together and Lina discovers she's pregnant with Toby's child. They grow further apart before they come back together. Both characters had to grow up a lot in order to get to their happily ever after. The repetitive "Tobias Langthorne" may have seemed annoying in the beginning, but became a quirky part of the story...it grew on me by the end. I look foward to reading/listening to more of Tessa's books.

Logan did a great job with narration. His voice was soothing to listen to.

I started this not being a fan of Tobias. He is rude, crude and just horrible. I could hardly listen to Logan McAllister portraying him and only looked forward to Lina’s part of the story. It took some time but I came around to liking him. By the end of this book..I loved Tobias! He really redeemed himself. Lina I loved from the start. First off I want to say I LOVED her name Catalina. I enjoyed watching her grow and become a stronger person as well.

Overall I liked this story. It started rough but enthralled me as it went forward. The characters all have nice growth to them. This is the first in the Langthorne Series. I did not read them in order but they each made me wish to start another one when I finished.

I did listen to this on audio. Logan McAllister did a wonderful job portraying these two.

I absolutely loved this book!
I can’t remember the last time loved hating a man as much as Tobias. He was such a jerk it was hard to believe she could fall for him so hard.
Lina was so insecure and naive and she never thought she was good enough for him. Turns out she was too good for him and he was to stubborn to see it. The love hate relationship between these two made this a roller coaster ride you’ll never forget. It was a little funny and a little sad mixed with a little angst making this the perfect 2nd Chance Romance. The narration was amazing and I’m totally in love with Logan McAllister’s voice now. I felt the story was a little longer than it needed to be but that being said, it was a
great read/listen and I would definitely recommend this book.

4 Star Review Valley Fever (The Langthornes of Napa Valley #1) by Tessa Bowen
Audio Review:
This was my first book by Tessa Bowen and narrator Logan McAllister .
Tobias Langthorne is an arrogant jerk who thinks the world owes him and Lina, well she frustrated me so much. It took me almost the entire book to warm up to Tobias and truth to tell I did not really connect with Lina at all. I simply could not understand how she would let Tobias continuously walk all over her. I wanted to slap them both on numerous occasions.
This was a bit of a roller coaster ride although there were a couple of occasions where Tobias and Lina had me laughing out loud.
Logan McAllister did a great job with the narration and I was impressed be the variety of his voices.

Audio book review
Book 1 in the series. Like how Tessa took a couple that had different parts and out looks in life . When they stop and see what’s important they will realize that they belong together.
Hero is Tobias. Heroine is Lina

Lina has had feelings for Tobias since she can remember. She thinks nothing will come of it since her mother is a maid to the family. Meanwhile Tobias is the heir .

Tobias thinks that he can get away with calling her names , grabbing her , being crude to Lina. Lina is hopping that he will realize what he is doing and change .
When Lina leaves the vineyard and she makes a life for herself and then she comes back that’s when Tobias realizes what he really feels for her .

I sort of cheated. I knew some of this couple's story already since I started with Valley Storm, but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it. I loved finding out their beginning and what lead them to be the amazing couple they are. And it certainly didn't stop me from getting so frustrated with Tobias. He's a great man but man was a stinker growing into that man. I would have slapped him a few times myself. Lina is a saint! Talk about an enemies to lovers story. I loved every minute of this romance. And trust me, you will love Tobias by the end. Logan McAllister did another amazing job narrating this book and bringing these characters to life. What a great start to a series I already know is a must read/listen.

This is an enemy to lovers story. I must admit that at the beginning I found Tobias too abrasive and a bully and thought there would be no redeeming him. Thankfully I was wrong. There is great character development with him and you get to see a significant transformation. He really matured and became a good partner to our Lina. How the story was wrapped up was beautiful.

Narration: Logan McAllister’s voice is like warm caramel. It’s a pleasure to listen to him. I don’t really like male narrators and out of 460+ audiobooks I only have a handful narrated by males but I would definitely get more books by him. Recommended.

Sweet & Romantic!
I enjoyed listening to Valley Fever, the first book in the Langthornes of Napa Valleys series. It takes a special kind of author to pen a true-to-life romance. Immediately, I connected with Lina and Tobias; they were real, complicated, and had their issues. Their connection was substantial and tension steadily grew. I was wholly impressed with Tessa Bowen's writing; the story was well-plotted with interesting characters.

Logan McAllister isn't my favourite narrator. However, I think he did a great job with Valley Fever, particularly with the different tones used for the various characters.

I received this audiobook free for an honest review. The author did a great job controlling the listener/reader's opinion when it comes to Tobias. Through most of the story, Tobias is a jerk. Then things change. Then you are on the side of Lina until toward the end when she goes a little crazy. But, based on what she has been through, you can understand her position. This story takes you from a young Tobias and Lina to adulthood and the trials they go through, over time, in their relationship. The narrator did a great job with the characters, their personalities and the overall story.

Lina has been in love with Tobias since she was younger. Now they have been brought back together years later and her feelings have not changed. Tobias does not want to be in the family property and makes it known. They have an affair until Lina finds out he has been lying to her. Tobias must fight to win her back.

Audible. Also on KU.

DNF at 4 hours (33%). I tried. I even walked away for a bit, listened to some other books, and went back to it to see if it was just a mood, but I can't. I enjoy a reformed bad boy, but so far all I'm seeing is an alcoholic jerk. Technically I'm at the part just after detox and even sober, Tobias Langthorne is insufferable. Get ready to hear the name Tobias Langthorne (yes, his full name) a lot. Because it's in the book almost 600 times. Tobias mocks, teases, disrespects, and belittles Lina, not only in the prologue but currently as adults.

Lina is disturbingly obsessed with Toby. Not just in a "he's hot" kind of way (and no amount of hot makes up for his words/behavior), but also in saying she's been in love with him forever. At nearly 30, she still talks/thinks/acts like the 15yo at the beginning.

I see that the ratings increase significantly for the subsequent books, so I may try those to see if it's just this author's take on the trope I'm not connecting with.

Logan McAllister's narration was fine.

I received a free copy of this audiobook series and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I am torn when reflecting on Valley Fever. Tobias, who is such a ass at the beginning of the story becomes a likable guy once he let's go of his past and faces his responsibility and feelings. Lina on the other hand, although the 'nice' girl I have no time for. She has no problem standing up for herself while at the same time telling herself she has no control. She is so busy telling herself crap she refuses to see beyond it. While Tobias grows up and turns to a outward focus Lina never does. I really wanted to slap her upside the head and tell her to stop dreaming and being so self centered.

It is a good story overall and I recommend it to ages 14+.

Logan McAllister did a fabulous job portraying the characters and narration. I hope to hear him again soon.

I recieved a Audible copy of this story, at my request, in exchange for a honest review.
