Book two of Cyborg Shifters, same universe as the Stranded in the Stars series, every book is a standalone that only subtly builds off of the others.

Everybody feared the man with the metal band over his mouth.

Stryker was part of an elite group of Cyborgs genetically enhanced with inhuman DNA. He was known as the Creeper, the quiet, the man with half a face. His fate was his own and his freedom hard-earned, having nothing to live for but the hunt and his perfect record. Until he received a distress call that changed his bleak existence.

“Please, oh god, please. Is anybody out there? This is Norah Lee, a scientist of Earth. I-I don’t know what to do. I think everybody...everyone is dead. Please if you hear this, please help us.

I can hear them outside. They’re coming…

I don’t want to die.”

If I could give an alternative title in this Cyborg Shifters series, it would have beeen Creepy Love.

We meet another weird half cyborg-half shifter in this second book.
Stryker is part of the elite group of Cyborgs genetically enhanced with inhuman DNA. And he is one of the friends of Dommik (the spider cyborg) that we met in book 1.
Stryker has a mask that covers half his face and inside he hides poisonous saliva and a split tongue. He occasionally hisses and crawls and the biggest surprise are . Can you guess what his animal part is?

I think this book was primarily a sci-fi thriller and secondarily a sci-fi romance.
For the most part cyborg Stryker and Norah ( the scientist who tries to rescue) run and hide in a jungle in an alien planet chased by unknown predators/monsters who love to scream and to make people disappear inside the deep muddy water, while the sky never stops raining.

It is a very stressful situation that somehow helps Norah to accept Stryker and to fall in love with him.
Stryker has all his behavioural characteristics of his animal part. He is sly, determined and he hates losing. He wants to hold Norah tight and to never let her go until he chokes her, because he has decided that she belongs to him.

Next book is about a shark shifter and I believe I am hooked to this series , so I will start it straightaway :)

Nora and Stryker the viper!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💚🖤💙💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍🌏
Character development: 😤😥😊🤩😘

The heroine: Nora - she is one of a team of scientists on a planet at the edge of the universe on planet Axone to see if it can be used for humans. When one of the scientists was blinded it was determined that the world was too dangerous and Nora and the rest of the team was packing everything up to go back to Earth. With a storm coming in, the team is attacked by some unknown creature and Nora is left alone.

The Hero: Stryker (a.k.a. The Creeper) - he is a monster hunter for the government like Dommick from Wild Blood. He catches various plants and animals throughout the galaxy to be used for study on Earth. He is a cyborg shifter with reptilian DNA mixed with Human DNA and a whole lot of tech.

The Story: Nora leaves an SOS and Stryker who is on his way back from his last hunt, picks up her transmission and stops on Axone in order to check it out. He helps her out of the building she was stuck in with the body of one of her peers. Then they have to brave the storm and whatever killed her team, to get to Stryker’s flyer and off the planet to his ship that is in orbit around the planet. Though they find his flyer is out of commission.

Stryker feels protective of Nora from the start and he helps her fight the elements to get away. He knows there are creatures out there just waiting for a chance at them, but he promises himself he would keep her safe. Nora latches on to the Cyborg shifter as her savior despite his odd looking appearance which includes a plate that goes over his mouth and nose that keeps his poison from affecting humans.

This book was told in dual points of view via dual narration and narrated by Hollie Jackson and Alexander Cendese who do a great job and both show a lot of emotion through their voices. I like both of these narrators, and wish more of this series was available via audiobook. I am liking the original storylines, the way the cyborgs shift into different animals and the fact that they are non-standard shifter animals, instead of dragons and wolves. This one was definitely action packed and had a great story!

I liked this one not quite as much as the first book in the series but it was still a solid read.
Nora is a scientist on a research trip on a distant planet but on the eve the team are due to pull out something hits the facility bringing a massive storm in its wake and there’s something shrieking out in the darkness that has picked off all of her colleagues.
Now Nora is alone and stranded the only one left on a planet that had become her prison.

Stryker is a monster Hunter and returning from his most recent mission he picks up Noras distress call.
Feeling instantly connected to the unknown woman’s voice Stryker acts out of character and changes his course to try and rescue the woman whose very voice call to him.

So this was a good read that I did enjoy, I loved the fact that Stryker is a cyborg and shifter and also thought it so cool that his base form is that of a snake.
I loved his unique anatomy and animalistic nature but I did at times struggle to feel the connection.
I’m not actually sure why as it was all there including some very hot sex scenes.
I think maybe the permanent face mask didn’t help and that part I wasn’t a fan of.
I didn’t like that Stryker couldn’t trust himself around Nora and maybe that affected the bond somewhat for me.
I also didn’t like how hard he was on himself when he had so much to offer.

This was dual POV which is my favourite and it was action-packed throughout, The pace here was fast and this moved along fairly swiftly.
Overall this was a decent read and I will read the next in the series.

Storm Surge is the second installment of the Cyborg Shifters series. It follows Stryker, who was mentioned in the first book, and Norah.

Now in the first book, Wild Blood, we hear a distress signal go off. Stryker is the one to hear, as well as Dommik, and they automatically think it's a tap. Low and behold, Stryker goes to see if it actually was one or if this girl actually needed help.

Norah, the one who made the distress signal, is trapped in her lab. She's a chemist and is working on a base when it is attacked by screechers. On top of that, there's a storm too. So she's basically shit out of luck and shit has definitely hit the fan. She doesn't think anyone will actually come to save her.. but something is better than nothing if you ask me.

In the first book, I definitely thought that whole cyborg shifting thing during romance was a bit strange.. and I definitely still thought that while reading this book. Entertaining.. but strange. Their attraction and chemistry was on fire. I honestly loved their relationship has it progressed. However, Norah sometimes annoyed the shit out of me. She would get whiney or just plain annoying. It was just in some chapters - whether it was something she said or die - and I just ended up annoyed.

Overall, it was an interesting book. Each character has been likable or lovable in their own way. I will obviously be continuing on in this series. Mostly just to find out what each cyborg really is or shifts into.

3 Kind of Boring Stars

I liked the first book a lot more than this one. This is Norah and Stryker’s story.

So in the first book we hear that Stryker answer a distress call. The beginning of the book was really good and really fast pace. I was into it. Norah’s lab is coming under attack and she is in survival mode. I loved that Stryker comes and saves her.

The part where they try to survive in the jungle was kind of confusing and kind of boring. There’s a lot of actions scenes and usually I love to read that but it made it all confusing trying to imagine what was going down.

Also, the fact that he has to wear a mask on his face was such a turn-off! I thought that would be an element of the book they would work on, but nope, he “kisses” by touching her. I was really disappointed in that.

I will continue with the series, but I was really disappointed in this one, but the whole snake with two dicks thing… that was some kinky stuff.

I was so excited to read this after having read Wild Blood. I absolutely love these Cyborg Shifters of Naomi’s! Stryker was introduced to us in Dommik’s book briefly, responding to a distress call. Since then, that was the last Dommik or anyone has heard from him.

Storm Surge was nonstop action. It's sci-fi romance and horror all rolled up into one. It begins on Axone, a place where Norah was stationed, studying the water of the planet to see if it would be safe for humans to live. It turns out to be more of a nightmare than she could ever have imagined. From the moment Stryker finds her, there is a connection between them. He was so different from the quiet, angry Dommik. Stryker was gentle, caring, doing whatever necessary to protect her from the creatures lurking in the depths.

I loved the interaction between Stryker and Norah. There was attraction, but there was more. They fit together perfectly. While he might be dominating at times (boy those were good ones!), he cares for her and she understands him. She accepts him, despite the monster that he is, extra bits (my brows flew up after reading about ONE certain bit) and all. To her, he is perfect the way he is.

Overall, loved the book, loved the writing, and can’t wait for Netto’s book!

Book 2 in this series focuses on Stryker, a cyborg that shifts into a snake, as he investigates a distress call from Norah. Norah is a water scientist. The planet she is researching has lots of water, but also some very strange monsters that just killed her whole team. She and Stryker must survive the monsters and other dangerous creatures of the planet as well as a horrible storm as they make their way across the terrain toward a ship and escape.

OK, in my review of the first book in the series, I mentioned that the smut was good but the story was weird. In this one, the story stays weird, and the smut wasn't as good. Normally, I think I would kick the series to the curb at this point, but now it is actually the weirdness that has me intrigued. I can't help but wonder what the next cyborg shifter will be like and what oddity will he have to overcome in order to find love?

Like i just couldn't go on. This was way more cringey and ridiculous than the first one. The Axone world and rescue mission were interesting but the romance was just so cringey. I couldnt stand the insta love. I usually don't care about insta love but the chemistry has be on point.

However, I might just continue with the rest of thr series because while it is ridiculous I am still entertained lol.

The book has human h, cyborg H and zombies! It should have been great, as I loved the first book but these characters were a bit frustrating. They talked when they should have tried to escape. I liked h-she fought to live, beat off zombies and managed her fear of the H. He had some amazing attributes, including a mask so he didn't accidentally kill her! Very romantic - not.

Naomi Lucas is a master at writing creepy, monstrous characters who are believably not Nice Guys. It's taken a couple forays into her Cyborg Shifters universe, but I think I finally get it now...and I really like it here. Hers are not stories to read if your mind is occupied elsewhere. She has a unique voice and way of telling a story that can be difficult to follow at times. I'm saying...you have to commit to her stories if you want to reap the full benefits of them.

I really liked this story, and I was smitten with both of the mains. Storm Surge is a tense horror novel with a monster romance thrown in. Yes, Stryker is a cyborg, but his bestial side seems to be more in control than his machine or human parts. It's why he wears a metal mask—he will never be safe to be around, no matter how friendly he is with you. His beast is snappy... and when they meet Norah, he definitely wants a taste and to coil her in his clutches and never let her go. Sexy and terrifying. Norah is an interesting personality that I haven't seen portrayed in romance: a detached cooler person who doesn't really love anyone or anything. Not because she was traumatized and determined not to, but because she just doesn't feel on that level. She likes other people. She's fond of them. But she can not honestly say she loves them—not even her family. When she falls fast and hard for Stryker, her analytic side wants to step back and try to figure out what's going on with her. Seeing them come together and how they have to work around Stryker’s unique challenges was sweet.

Whoo. I will definitely be diving into the next one and re-visiting the others I tried last year.

Okay, guys. I liked the first book in this series, but I sort of felt like I was missing something because of those, err, glowy guys (they might not have been glowy. I dunno. The Space Lords. I have it in my head that they glowed. I might be high on iced coffee, though, so maybe take that part with a grain of salt.) that showed up toward the end. HOWEVER, since this book had no Space Lords, that wasn't an issue.

What did it have? A cyborg with a mega-dose of reptilian DNA embedded in him. Also, a scientist who ended up mired in the crappiest of situations and who pretty much expected she'd die on a rain-swept planet surrounded by some REALLY TERRIBLE THINGS.

For the record, Norah doesn't die on that awful planet. It's a close call, but she has a surly, sometimes bite-y cyborg on her side and that makes all the difference.

I'm still digging the non-standard shifter aspects we're being introduced to with this series. Stryker's ability to change into a snake is cool. A little sad since he's so down on himself, but still cool. Plus, he has non-standard parts that Norah seemed to enjoy. As one does.

Netto's up next. I'm ready.

I really enjoyed this book. Better than the first in the series, but still not as good as book 4 with crazy ass Gunner. Stryker is a cyborg snake shifter who receives a distress call while traveling back to the cyborg planet Ghost. And oh what a shit show it was once he landed on the planet the distress call came from. Norah is a chemist studying water. Since Earth has now become a dry land where scientists are searching for how they can bring back the oceans and other natural water sources. While studying on Axeon I think it was called, a water bacteria from this planet latched onto a human host where as the bacteria grows stronger inside the body, it expells everything else inside. Your get the drift. Kind of like a body snatcher. Norah ends of being the only human left alive on her team. So there's a lot of gore and intense moments as they're being chased by these things. Seriously gave me the creeps. Which is why Naomi Lucas's books are so fun. She's a great writer and really gives you a clear picture of the world she's trying to create. Her shifters are animalistic, feral, and primal. They have sexual relations even in their shifted forms which gives you quite the picture in your head 😬. Definitely recommend this series if this is your thing.

Whenever I'm on the sidelines reading about a super steamy smut scene, I imagine this is what I would look like to our characters (metaphorically, of course).

description

Anyways, with that confession out of the way onto the lazy review.

There was a certain scene towards the end of this book...and I imagine the cat in this cat-burrito contraption would have been the face of Norah.
description
Except the word tongue would be replaced with the word tail

This scene was every-bit perverted and kinky as it sounds.

But...

description

Even if it isn't exactly humanoid.

Again, I love Naomi's way of writing and honestly, every intense scenario in this book had my heart a-puttering. You go girl.

Looking forward to my next Naomi Lucas read.

This was alright. Like the first book, I think this really suffered from not having a proper editor. The plot felt clunky here and there and the descriptions were confusing. Sometimes I was reading and I'd realize I had no freakin clue wtf was going on.

And there was so much potential with the sexy cyborg man but there was almost no smut, and only one monstery sex scene. 😭
Needless to say, I was disappointed.

Still, my rule is 3 stars minimum if I'm going to continue with the series, and I definitely am. Overall, the world is creative, the cyborg men are sexy, and I think these books have so much potential and I really want to read one that reaches it!

So you can imagine this one was a little hard for me to swallow. Especially when the hero was a snake shifter with a forked tongue, fangs, and a hemipenis. However I enjoyed the hero's personality so that made him bearable.

This author is very creative with their cyborg shifters. We've gone from a spider to a snake. If the third book has a rat shifter that would be the trifecta of creepiness. Fortunately this series tickles my sci-fi fancy and pleases my inner perv.

Audiobook

I kept thinking as I was listening to the book that there was a problem with the narration and I might have liked the book better if I read it. The male narrator was great for male voices but his female voice was really screechy. And the female narrator was great for the female character but her male voice was a combination surfer/asshole voice. The story itself was a little confusing. The female protagonist had a lot of TSTL moments such as when she first met Stryker and she kept wanting to shoot him after she sent out a distress call. Then when she left the planet wanting to turn right back around after everything she went through was just ridiculous. No one is that stupid. Also the instant "I love you" was unbelievable. So, I think I'm going to stop reading this series. 2-1/2 stars

It's a good read, but I gave it some concessions.

The plot was intense and perfect for the characters. The characters were awesome and I like how his author doesn't use romance to fix the unfixable. It would have been a five star read for me except at 58% into the book two chapters suddenly just didn't make sense together. This was a problem with the last book: action so vaguely described as to be unintelligible. Basically, the author has a picture in her head of what is happening and then fails epically to make it make sense to the reader. What was behind her? Why did she leave the ship? What was happening when Stryker killed the shrieker? How did she end up outside the ship with a shrieker?
And also! WTF?! There were shriekers on the ship the whole time? And why didn't they attack Norah in the lab? And what was with the blood and guts in the lab? And what were the invisible heat signatures in humanoid form? And why didn't you take the time to have a scene between Dommik and Stryker about the metal for the mask? I mean, a bit of explanation about what Dommik owed Stryker for would do in either this book or the last. And if it's because Styker owns that planet, then why didn't that come up in this book? I mean, I know as much about Stryker right now as I can, and that means that the woman who fell in instalove with him, DOESN'T KNOW MUCH AT ALL. More exposition is needed for these books. I would suggest en editor and a rerelease with about 15,000 more words added to each book just to explain sheeyit.

*WARNING* contains explicit adult sexual situations
Stryker is a cyborg who is genetically engineered to be half human, half animal. Stryker goes to other planets for EPED to collect animals, plants, bugs, basically whatever EPED wants to study.
Norah is a scientist. Norah has a love for water, so when she was asked to go to Axone to see if it would be habitable, Norah went. Norah got more that data from that planet.
I felt this was original, but I think it would be wrong of me to tell you what Stryker's animal is. I enjoyed this story even though it make me feel a little creepy.

This book could've been fantastic!!!! It was better than the first to be sure. Some of the scenes are ridiculous. But I love the premise of something's gonna get u in the water. I like a good steamy book like the next one . But if aliens are about to attack I'm not gonna think about mysterious stranger penis and how I need to screw it

This was the second book in the Cyborg Shifter series and a KU. I enjoyed this book much more than the first one.

Norah is a water chemist collecting data on a new planet in hopes it will be suitable for colonization. More than that though, Norah hopes to make a discovery that will enable scientist to clean up Earth's oceans. Unfortunately the planet being tested has huge predators and toxic plants. It will be too dangerous for humans. As the scientists are packing up to go a hugs storm hits, killing her colleagues and flooding the lab. Something is turning her dead friends into water dwelling monsters. She calls out for help knowing that there are no ships close enough to save her.

Stryker is a snake shifter and monster hunter. He has a full load of animals to take to earth for study when he receives Norah's distress call. He's instantly smitten by her voice.

Of course they have dangerous adventures before making it back to Stryker's ship. I though Norah and Stryker made a good couple. Both were smart and relied on each other to survive.

These aren't the best written books and a little too campy to take seriously but OK for an evening of entertainment.

Storm Surge is the best book by Naomi Lucas that I've read yet. (I still have Shark Bite to go, but....yeah.) I loved this! Stryker was such a tender-hearted bad ass, fighting his instinct to possess Norah and instead protecting, caring for, and healing her. And I thought his particular animal shift was even sexier than Dommik's, which is saying quite a lot. Wow. Can we all have one of those pls?

Norah is my favorite of Naomi's heroines so far, and goes a long way toward making this book my favorite. She wasn't one of those silly women getting herself in over her head, which you see in a lot of other romances. She was a smart, driven, thoughtful person who was thrown into chaos and insanity entirely outside of her control. And yet, she handled it. She protected herself, she made smart choices to try to save herself, which ultimately led the powerful Stryker to her side. He wouldn't have needed her so badly if she hadn't been able to understand and support his own nature. They needed each other.

And what a fabulous, interesting world/plot. I've said before that Naomi has such a unique talent for creating horror, even amidst her sexier entanglements. She imagines and writes these utterly grotesque monsters over and over again, and I adore it. It's just the right dose in each book. I get genuinely worried for the characters and the world each damn time. What happens if the thing from Axone gets out near Earth? And the Weiraptor? Holy shit, we need an entire book on that thing's planet. Romance amongst the intelligent dinosaurs!

Sorry, my brain took that off track a bit....

One last quality I want to note: I think that Naomi does a REALLY excellent job with the science of her science fiction. You can tell there's thought, planning, and research behind the details of the world. The EPED, the ship designs, the cyborg tech powers. This is sci-fi in the truest sense. Her Cyborg Shifters series meets at a much needed intersection of romance, science, and horror, and I love it.

Five stars...why?...because it was so darn fun!
Oh my it had plenty of flaws but Naomi Lucas didn’t aim too high and checked all the boxes.
The action scenes that are numerous, were so *bleeping* fast and logical.
Yeah, yeah the I love you was too fast but whatever! As long as they kept running, climbing and staying away from the *What-the-hell-is-that? RUN!* moments, I was good.
The female protagonist was smart and one hell of a survivor. Not once did I scream, what a dumb broad!
The male lead was pretty darn cool.
The monsters, creatures, and all the odd crap on that planet were wonderfully creepy.

Way better than Bk1

The pace of this was relentless. I was exhausted and terrified for them through most of this book and honestly, I'm impressed they found time to fall in love.

But they did, and boy was it kinky! If you're prudish, you need a different book.

On to Bk 3 - a shark!
(Though if I'm honest, I could have done with some dry land after Bk2! Like Norah, I'm more than a bit wary of water at this point)
