During the climactic battle at the Colteron shipyard, Cain's explosive secret is finally revealed. Now that Abel knows the truth, the corrupt commanders aboard the Sleipnir are determined to silence him. Even if Cain and Abel manage to escape, what will this revelation mean for the bond they've developed?
I've been following this series for years, week by week, and I'm going to miss those weekly updates. I'm not too fond of science fiction but the drawings did it for me.
Review: You can find my series review in my review of Ch. 1! Below are my thoughts for this chapter specifically.
Thoughts (Ch. 5):
Chapter 5 was a little anticlimactic, to be honest. Everything wrapped up rather quickly and easily. The ending was left hanging a bit.
But there were a lot of things I loved too. I loved how characters came together and had each others' backs when it mattered. I loved Cain and Abel's relationship, with its passion and its flaws and its sweetness. *SPOILER* *END SPOILER* I loved seeing how much Cain had changed. I loved how Keeler and Encke were together. I even loved that Deimos redeemed himself (since he always seemed like a bit of a shady rat).
So yeah. A lot of was kinda skipped over or happened quickly in the end, but I still loved this comic!
Recommended For: Anyone who likes erotic comics, manga-style artwork, space battles, m/m romance, and romance that starts a little fucked up but ends cute.
That's just the sci-fi backdrop, though; without it there would be no star-fighting context, but so far the war with the Colterans has been pretty background as far as the reader is concerned.
In this installment (which seems... not finished? But apparently is? Is Hamlet Machine still working on this comic?) the plot, which actually exists now is no longer just a vehicle for sex scenes, focused on conflict among various characters in reaction to revelations about the Thebes Project and who lied to whom about what.
DNF at panel 109 of 139. So I was curious enough about the mystery mission to keep reading through the big reveal, but it immediately loses steam after that. Curiosity -- and the graphic sex scenes :) -- drives the whole plot, so after reading five chapters I didn't even bother with the final 30 panels.
No idea when Hamlet Machine actually finished this, cause in all of the mayhem this year has wrought, reading this sort of fell by the wayside...but so happy it finished with a mutiny and Cain and Abel safe. Will there be any more? Who knows, but his [?] drawing is so good, no wonder C.S. Pacat brought them in to help with the Fence series.
I've been working on this for over two years, so naturally, I don't have a very current and fleshed out opinion of how I feel about it. It would be better if I went back and reread the whole series. It certainly wouldn't take long. But I do know that the art remained amazing throughout this volume. The action and stakes were great. The romance was top notch. I do have to say that the cliffhanger saddened me. I wanted more wrap up. But I appreciate Hamlet Machine's explanation on why she left it open. An excellent series overall, and excited to read more of her work in the future.
It's fantastic to see this long running webcomic reach it's satisfying conclusion! This is probably the longest (or maybe even only...?) webcomic I've followed from start to finish. It's delightful to see the art style, which was already good at the beginning, evolve to where in reached in the. Sexy sci-fi at it's best.
Well. That was quite an interesting series. I'm not gonna say anything more because I'm still *ehem* kinda weirded out by the amount of sex in this series but yeah it was cute (ish). DEFINITELY 18+
Starfighter will always have a special place in my heart as the first webcomic I’ve ever gotten obsessed with and pretty much made me who I am today haha
I really enjoyed this entire series. This may have been the best volume yet and though I am sad for it all to end, I'm also happy to find a satisfactory ending.
I finished it!🥰 I'm holding out on half a star because I wanted more of Cain and Abel, and the other characters...I felt this would have been better if the closure at the end was more clear cut instead of implied and a bit open-ended HEA. But still, it was very enjoyable! I love the drawings and the story as it developed over the five chapters.
Because the kisses...🔥🔥🔥
I'm really tempted to buy the game (Starfighter Eclipse) just because I can't get enough of the MCs plus all the new characters in it. I'm certainly going over to Patreon after this and will support the author there. (I've bought the digital ones too, because I know I'll re-read them at some point in the future).
And more kisses...😍
If your not one to shy away from anything erotically graphic (smexy scenes on pages) and interested in sci-fi, I recommend reading this since Hamletmachine made this available for free on her site. I'm giving myself a slap in the back for picking this one up!
The tender looks...🤗
I'm left sighing here...just straight through the ❤...
I definitely see more graphic m/m novels in my future!😁
I have such mixed feelings about the end of a series I'd been reading for close to a decade (I started reading in Chapter 2, so though it's been around for more than 11 years now, I didn't start quite at the beginning of it being put up online). There were some aspects of the final chapter which thrilled me and which I'd been waiting to see for so many years. But there were others that just fell flat for me, especially the very end. And yet others which I was disappointed that we didn't really get to see. I feel like this final book veers wildly back and forth between a 5 star rating and a 1 or 2 star rating for me depending on where I am in it. So how about a three star average?
Felt extremely rushed and unresolved, which I suspect was because the author was working on multiple other projects at the same time. Sometimes this works, but in this case, it either felt like the author was tired of the project and just wanted to finish it, or got bored of it, or literally didn't have time to finish off all the storylines set up with all the interesting side characters. I think the first two books will remain my favourites.
ok like 3.5 stars but who caressss it’s a little digital graphic novel about horny gay boys in space!! critical thinking is not necessary!! this was so fun and the art was FANTASTIC and boy oh boy was it saucy…enemies to lovers never misses, queer sci-fi never misses, bible allegories unfortunately never miss either. what more can i say?
The fuck? That’s it what happened to the bad guys? Are they gonna get imprisoned or what? What happen to Cain and Abel did they retire to the colonies? Did they go back to being a navigator and a fighter? I need answers.
Bit of a rough start, stronger finish. All over the place when it comes to rating the world on a science-fiction level. Like something you'd read out of a BL novel. Space politics and even the manner of their machinery fall to the wayside. Why is it necessary to keep the mecha as it is given its known technological mishaps, could have been explored a bit further. Instead, it's all about those skin tight space suits and gay pilots falling for one another. And vaguely treacherous melodrama between not love triangles. Yay, gay romance and sex!
Hamlet Machine is indulgent in their interests, and I'm all for it. I would have liked a little more to the multiple relationships after the huge reveal (not quite a plot twist when you saw it coming), yet it ends on an overall positive note. I'm grateful that I read this when it was complete rather than waiting for the weekly (or whatever times they were) updates. Glad that Hamlet Machine finished it independently and got to make a game for it too. Overall enjoyed my reading experience with this one.
I'm rating the series as a whole since I binge read chapter 1-4 in one sitting and then read chapter 5 later that day lol. For my personal tracking stats, I'm just counting this as one book and adding all the pages together.
This was a reread, for some reason I thought I never finished this series, but I did in fact do so a couple or more years ago.
I think this story is just a good smutty time. Its got an intriguing plot, the characters are interesting and for the most part I really like the art style.
Everyone is in space. Everyone is gay. It’s beautiful. This was a great comic, and I can only imagine what it must have been like for the fans who had been following it since its creation. I only discovered it on Twitter today and sat down to read the whole thing and I’m glad I did because I love space, I love gays, I love space gays. I want to play the game of this and I think this would also make a really great animated show or movie.
