The Japanese Imperial Army's occupation of Hong Kong during WWII was the darkest period in the city's history. Colloquially remembered as the “Three Years and Eight Months” period by survivors, the stories of food rationing, beheading, and economic pillage are still passed on to younger generations. Though the atrocities have not been not widely written about in the West, many Canadian and British soldiers sacrificed their lives fighting alongside Chinese guerrilla soldiers. This book aims to keep this history alive and honor those who survived it.
It was a nice historical summary and I did learn new things. However, from the description I imagined it would contain more about the lived experience of the Hong Kong people during the war, and not of the foreign nationals. Also there were typos/mistakes that were distracting
