Asteroid Mate

Rate this book
When squads from the planet Relica visit alien worlds, it’s because those worlds are in danger. So when Commander Tausson Corwin comes to Earth to prepare the planet for evacuation, it’s Tierney Dawson, the President’s Chief of Staff, who is trying to coordinate the American role in the disaster response.

The Relicans help far off worlds — like Earth — who don’t have the technology to fully help themselves. But Commander Corwin’s culture dictates that this process is also how he is to find a mate. This ensures that Relican bloodlines exist throughout the galaxy and save them from their own extinction.

Asteroid Mate is a full-length novel of 52,000 words about an MF romance. It is the first book of a series, but there are no annoying cliffhangers! Please note that this steamy, sexy story is intended for mature (18+) readers only.

Asteroid Mate is the first book in the Relican series. No, the books in the series can’t be read as standalones but I assure you the book is so amazing you won’t have trouble finishing the first book in a few hours and moving onto the sequel in record time. Yes, it didn’t happen to me. Then again, you can’t blame me! The series is AWESOME!
I can’t say alien romance is my favorite genre. Nevertheless, once in a while, I find a formidable author that came up with an interesting plot that is just too tempting to leave alone. This is the case. The novel tells the story of Tierney Dawson, Chief of Staff at the White House, and how her life changes as a handsome alien commander, along with his troop, comes to help evacuate Earth. The plot had some amazing things hidden. First, the heroine has self-respect! She knows she is a strong, brave and valuable woman that has everything and more to dominate in the world of politics even when the jerk of the Vice-chief of staff and the perverse Vice President of the United States try to taint her image and the one of her best friend, the President of the United States. I also loved her dedication to her family, her friends and her people. She also worked out a major part of the evacuation details with the members of the Relicans, the alien race. I also loved that even when she was portrayed as a strong and capable woman, we were also shown some of her fears and insecurities. I believe that people are not truly able to relate to an invincible and perfect character. Sometimes we just need a little bit of vulnerability that would allow us to emphasize with the character, making him or her more likable. Tierney was an amazing character in said sense.
Now, regarding our hero. Commander Tausson is the perfect example of an alpha male. He is bossy and arrogant. However, he has a good heart and intentions, even when his patience runs low from time to time. He doesn’t only have to relocate the people form Earth but his superiors are forcing him to choose an Asteriod Mate for temporary breeding. It sounds a little degrading, right? But for his race, the title of Asteroid Mate is an honor because they ensure a legacy. Nevertheless, he starts doubting everything he once believed regarding Asteroid Mates and coupling after meeting and getting to know our heroine. Yes, true love can change you. It certainly did to those two. However, the Relicans view love as a crime and problems from the Relican and Earth fronts keep escalating.
This book was amazing because it has everything! We had a beautiful romance, friendship, betrayal, competitiveness in the politic front, science fiction, a little bit of action and so much more. A little warning, this book has a little cliffhanger. Don’t worry, it isn’t too shocking but it is enough to make you want to start the sequel right away. In fact, I 1-clicked it as soon as I was done with this one. I believe this will happen to several readers too.

Earth is doomed. At least, that’s what the Relicans say.

Tierney Dawson isn’t sure if the aliens are telling the truth. An asteroid hurtling towards Earth? Only a month until collision? It’s all pretty hard to swallow, especially coming from Tausson Corwin, a young, hot-tempered, and dismissive commander who says all of humanity must evacuate onto their spaceship. But as the President’s Chief of Staff, it’s Tierney’s job to take it seriously, and to work with Commander Corwin on America’s disaster response. Soon she sees past the commander’s gruff exterior, and finds herself struggling to hide her feelings.
After a tragic ending to his last mission, Commander Tausson Corwin of the Relican Squad is impatient to convince humanity that they are an endangered species. But that’s not his only problem. Relican culture dictates that he must also select a mate from Earth’s population. Will Tierney be the one? Or does he want even more from her?

Total Score: 5/5

Summary:

Received for an honest review.

Imagine an alien race coming to Earth telling everyone that in thirty day the world would be almost destroyed by an asteroid. Would you believe them? When they inform the world that they can evacuate the entire planet if they start soon, Tierney's disbelief was understandable. Even with all of that, she steps up as the presidents Chief of Staff to work with Tausson and his people. Tausson, as commander of this mission, is determined to save everyone in spite of the confusion and mistrust of many on Earth. There are many conflicts and dangers as the two cultures struggle to work together before it is too late for humanity. Add to that the Tierney and Tausson's emotional interest in each other in spite of The mandate of Tausson's people that love is forbidden. Their world faced the same fate as Earth until another race intervened to help them. The only way to save their race is for their people to mate with multiple people form their world and others to ensure they survive. Will Tierney and Tausson's love survive or is it doomed form the start?

This is a fast paced and intricate story that held me spellbound. I will be waiting to read the next book in the Relica series.

Holy cliffhanger, Batman!

The good:
Smart Heroine
Interesting Hero
Interesting Alien culture
Good pacing
It was well developed.

The Bad:
Too many threads left to tie up, so many unanswered questions.
Murky motivations of the aliens, I am not sure if this was by design or neglect.
The Alien culture and breeding practices. I was a little uncomfortable with

Overall a much better than average scifi romance -- a bit more tilted to the scifi. I am looking forward to the sequel.
