Schon seit gemeinsamen Tübinger Tagen stehen sich die Jesus-Bilder von Joseph ­Ratzinger und Hans Küng diametral gegenüber. Hier der verkirchlichte, dogmatisierte Christus Ratzingers, dort der lebendige Jesus aus historischer Perspektive. Hans Küng hat die zentralen Texte zu Jesus von ­Nazareth aus seinem Buch "Christ sein" gelöst und neu ­ für einen ­befreiten ­Zugang, gegen alle Enge.

About the author

Hans Küng was a Swiss Catholic priest, controversial theologian, and prolific author. Since 1995 he had been President of the Foundation for a Global Ethic (Stiftung Weltethos). Küng is "a Catholic priest in good standing," but the Vatican has rescinded his authority to teach Catholic theology. Though he had to leave the Catholic faculty, he remained at the University of Tübingen as a professor of Ecumenical Theology and served as Emeritus Professor since 1996. In spite of not being allowed to teach Catholic theology, neither his bishop nor the Holy See had revoked his priestly faculties.

Empecé a leer este "Jesús" de Hans Küng tarde, y mientras recorría sus páginas, recordaba con tristeza los problemas que él tuvo con Juan Pablo II, que le retiró la licencia para enseñar teología católica por cuestionar el dogma de la infalibilidad papal.

Conviene recordar que esa sanción no fue más allá, como deseaban los enemigos de Küng. No se le excomulgó ni secularizó. Conservó su condición de sacerdote hasta el final de su vida.

Este es un libro que hay que leer con cuidado, calma y atención. Me quedo con la última parte. Ahi el autor finaliza su ensayo cristológico destacando que la fe proporciona paz, pero no nos libra de los problemas del mundo real. Seguir a Jesucristo nos humaniza. Nos recuerda que los otros no son antagonistas, sino hermanos o, más sencillamente, el prójimo. El cristiano está obligado a imitar al buen samaritano. Ese es su papel en el mundo: curar, auxiliar, acompañar, escuchar, abrazar, contagiar esperanza.

Joseph Ratzinger escribe su ‘Jesús de Nazaret’ “desde arriba”, priorizando la dimensión sobrenatural. Y lo hace maravillosamente bien. Hans Küng invierte esa perspectiva, ahondando en la humanidad de Jesús. No es cierto que minimice su condición de hijo de Dios. Simplemente, prescinde de las mayúsculas y los títulos mayestáticos. Su forma de proceder me gusta, y parece fiel al espíritu del Evangelio. Nos asusta que Jesús sea tan humano, pero ahí está su grandeza.

Gepriesen sind die öffentlichen Bücherschränke! Der in Karlstadt am Main hat meinen spätsommerlichen Nachmittagskaffee auf dem Marktplatz in eine unerwartete, anregende Beschäftigung mit Gott verwandelt.
Vom bereits verstorbenen Küng hatte ich bis dato noch nichts gelesen, aber natürlich kennt man seinen Ruf als kirchenkritischen, zeitweilig sogar exkommunizierten Theologen. Deshalb war ich über zwei Dinge überrascht: Erstens seine klare, einfache und nachvollziehbare Sprache und zweitens sein absoluter, unbedingter Gottglaube. Wenn man so will war es also schon mal hochinteressant, den Autor durch seine Texte kennenzulernen.
Wie der Titel ja schon vermuten lässt, geht es im Buch um den historischen Jesus. Breiten Raum nehmen der Zeitpunk, an dem das Reich Gottes auf die Erde kommen wird und die Auferstehung Jesu ein. Es endet mit Fragen, wie sich heute aktuell Nachfolge und Glaube an einen christlichen Gott und die Positionierung gegenüber anderen Religionen für den normalen Menschen bewerkstelligen lassen.
Da blieben bei mir dann doch einige (theo-)logische Punkte ungelöst. Denn wenn man eine kritische, egoistische und materielle Bilanz zieht, bleibt z.B. offen, welchen Benefit in der Küngschen Theologie Glaube und religiöses Leben dem Einzelnen bringen. Schwierig auch der Spagat und das Verständnis, dass eine richtige Religion nicht bedeutet, dass die anderen falsch sind…

If you’ve been seriously considering a personal and deeper encounter with Jesus, from the very essence of your own humanity, you should read this book. Sometimes it requires courage realising that being part of a church is not guarantee of salvation, but finding yourself and then being able to love to others is the most truly and beautiful way.

Un libro de contenido teológico bien documentado. Ver la reflexión del Sr. Küng siempre nos deja una enseñanza que nos acerca más a Cristo. En esta ocasión, no muestra a ese Jesús histórico y su conexión directa con ese Cristo teológico sin dejar su humanidad que es aquella que podemos trazar históricamente.

I usually get along fine with Küng. Maybe it is the subject.
