Oh man... post apocalyptic scenarios in books and movies always freak me out, appall me, enrage me and make me want to grab certain characters and shoot'em in the gonads. This little doozy got me good! On to the next one.
Great Book and I have to say that the 1 .2 are good I hope you enjoy reading this book as I did I love it thank you for letting me read the book love them Both
So many events impacted Ava and Lexi since the Black Tide hit. They lost their father, are now orphans. Lost their childhood home, and all security except each other. Finally reunited with Brian, Ava's true love, she fears she may have lost him again when the army sent him to the front line against the wave of inflooding regugees. Afraid of the outbeaks of violent gang activity, they even fled the town where they grew up!
The two have formed a new family and are forging a bond with them, having reached their desired safe haven, Brian's family vacation home, isolated on a river side.
Lloyd, someone Ava met through a trusted friend on a raid against the army for food. She is trying to learn to trust him as her friend did, but their relationship is abrasive. His skills and supplies are invaluable, and there are so few potentially good people left now.
Sarah, Lloyd's younger sister, a night and day difference in personality from him. She is just a bit older than Lexi, bright, resourceful and a little shy, a delightful girl. Sarah and Lexi have already become fast friends.
Calypso, the young woman Ava rescued from three brutal gang members, just a day before they all left for their new home. Calypso is Ava's polar opposite! She may appear a coy dependant woman, when she wishes, but there is a backbone of pure steel recovering from her recent trauma under those pretty skirts!
Thogether these brave survivors are determined to carve out a sustainable life for themselves, despite all that has befallen them, from their homeland in South Africa. They know the supplies they were able to bring with them won't be enough to last, and foraging is in their future. The question is how much danger lurks in the nearby small town?
Baileigh Higgins creates an apocalyptic adventure life no other that I have read, and I am a fan of the genre. There is a humanity, depth of character, reality to action sequence, a bit of humor, tragedy and romance as in real life. No one part overtakes the other. There is a main character and we follow several of the events through her eyes, see her grow internally and externally. Underneath and supporting it all, is the panorama of South African majesty itself brought to life through Ms. Higgins writing. Taken as one it makes this an unforgettable adventure.
Ava and her sister Lexi are orphans now that the virus has also taken their father. The army is on the lookout for Ava after she stole food to survive. The virus became airborne and killed off the rest of humanity. Only those who turned out to be immune survived. Ava, Lexi, Sarah, Calypso and Lloyd are now living in a secluded river house, working hard to keep the place as secure and safe as possible. Will they be able to build a new life there?
Brian is in love with Ava, but they got separated when he was sent to the border. He applied for the army when his parents passed away after they got infected by the virus. Brian and two other military survivors are headed towards the river house, which belonged to Brian's parents. He hopes he'll find Ava and Lexi when he gets there. His military brothers aren't the most trustworthy human beings. Can he count on these guys to stand by his side when the going gets tough?
Ava has been so strong ever since the virus got out. She's taking care of her younger sister and she goes out on supply runs all the time. Together with Calypso and Lloyd they make a strong team. Ava misses Brian very much and she hopes that he's still alive and will eventually find his way back to her. Ava and Brian are both skilled enough to survive in this new harsh world, but they have remained caring and kind. I admired that in these people, even more so because of everything they've been through. After all the hurt I was hoping wholeheartedly that Ava and Brian would find their way back to each other.
The Black Tide: Rebellion is a bone chilling story about surviving in a lonely world. Now that the only people left are the ones who are immune to the virus, a new world has risen out of the ashes. Not everyone is having the best intentions and this results in situations that made me forget to breathe while I was reading. The Tides of Blood series is heart-stoppingly frightening and I had a hard time putting The Black Tide: Rebellion down. Baileigh Higgins always grabs me from the very beginning and I can't wait to read the final book in this fantastic gripping series.
I didn't think this book could outdo the first of this series..... But it did, in Aces and Spades!!!! I couldn't believe the ending!!! This book, as well as this series, has EVERYTHING needed for a good dystopian/apocalyptic novel!!!! ACTION??? Oh yes, it has action, as well as mystery, love, hate, sadness, happiness and death. DiD I mention the ACTION??? The only thing it doesn't have is zombies!!! LOL. But that's OK. I can not wait for book three to come out!!! The characters and storylines are so believable, that you would think that this was a non-fiction book! I applaud Baileigh Higgins for a job well done!!! Thank you, Baileigh for keeping us well entertained!!!! Mike Hansen, Nuneaton, England. A Texas cowpoke stuck in England!!!
#2 Life has changed for Ava’s group, who now live in a remote place once owned by Brian’s family. There are others to meet and though Brian and Ava are separated, it’s great to follow their journeys.
It’s really divided between Ava and Brian and how they battle the elements and other problems. I like that it’s a first-person narrative so to understand the thoughts and feelings behind the actions. There are other characters but the focus is on those two.
I don’t give spoilers so I can’t say what happens but...it’s worth reading for sure.
Picking up where book 1 ends, Ava and her friends arrive at the refuge which looks like paradise. This book is a bit less exciting as there is less encounter with (bad) people or situations to muster. At least for Ava, as there is also alternating the story of Brian's survival. The excitement is back at the end of the book and there is quite a cliffhanger.
I really enjoyed this second part to this exciting apocalyptic series! Following the main character, Ava & her friends, really exciting stuff! A little sad, a little happy but overall it grabbed my attention from the first word & I flew through to the end! I can't wait to read the next part! Excellent!
I have read so many of these apocalyptic books that I have started becoming bored with them. This is the first series I've read in awhile that has kept me glued to it. Highly recommended. The book is excellent and is more accurate on how things would unfold if a societal collapse occurred.
Ava's adventures continue in her new world as she and her group move to a, hopefully, safer location. New friends are made and more dangers are found. I can't wait to read the next one
