The book is called long shadow the author who wrote the book is Carl Bowen. The lexile level for this book is 860L. This book is about how on a mission one of their there plain was shot down and one of their soldiers was left behind. After a while they got word that he was still alive and so they started to plain how to get him back to base. In chapter 1 pages 12-16 the MH-53J helicopter was shot by rocket launcher and they started to spin out of control when crashed down walker was coughing out all the smoke that was suffocating him. When walker was freed and found the others they tried to look for there chief. After a while Walker saw there medic coming towers him and walker sayed to the medic “my arm hurts i think it’s broken” the medic said “it’s not broken if it hurts” “smart aleck” walker croaked. After chief woke up he said “ leave me behind and get out of here” on page ( ). At base camp walker met up with general and he said “we got word that chief ryan cross is still alive and the terrorist group has him captive and we think you and your team can get him out alive”. After a week of training there planded there rescue. When at the enemy's base they looked around to see if they could find him. After they found him they got to the vantage point and waited for the helicopter. After about 10 min they found out that he was gone a lights started to go off and lots of sounds and just then the helicopter showed up and after they were on it two enemy helicopter and they shot a missile and missed and they got away safely. I recommend this book because it told the story line pretty well at least some of it. I didn’t like one part of the book because it didn’t really explain it as much as i want it was when they were planning there saving mission and how they trained. I do like how there is a searses of the books that can continue the story and what happens.
I am reading the book Long Shadow written by Carl Bowen. The book was published in August of 2015 and the lexile is about 860L. The book was published in August of 2015 and was illustrated by Wilson Tortosa. In the first part of the book the shadow squadron helicopter got shot down by a group of terrorists, of the entire crew only five survived. “How many of us made it?” Chief Walker asked. “Five that I know about,” Lieutenant Kimiyo Yamashita said. (P.20) “You, me, the medic, and two sniper brothers”. The brothers were killed by the terrorists because they didn't listen to the escape orders we gave them so they could all get out of there quick. At base camp, Walker met up with general and said “we got word that Chief Ryan Cross is still alive and the terrorist group has him captive. We think you and your team can get him out alive”. After weeks of training, they planed the rescue. When at the enemy's base they looked around to see if they could find him. They finally found him they got to the vantage point to continue the plan and wait for the helicopter. They waited for about 10 minutes then found out that he had disappeared. When he disappeared lights started to go out and lots of sounds started to happen all around them. The team quickly tracked the terrorist that captured Cross and got him back once again. When the helicopter showed up and after they were on it two enemy helicopters soon were on the team's chopper. The enemies shot a missile at the shadow team but thankfully missed and they got away safely. I liked this book because it had an okay storyline. I really liked the theme on war and the battles and challenges the team had to solve to get the Chief Ryan Cross back while not causing an international incident. Although the book was overall an okay I think this want his best book he had ever made because he could have added more of a storyline on how Cross went missing and what happened to him in the meantime. My favorite part of the book is when they snuck up to the foreign hideout and got spotted so they had an all-out battle while they had some troops look for Cross. It can relate to me because I know people that have served in the military that had been in situations like this before.
