The Second Coming of Christ: The Resurrection of the Christ Within You (Self-Realization Fellowship) 2 Volume Set

Rate this book
In this unprecedented masterwork of inspiration, Paramahansa Yogananda takes the reader on a profoundly enriching journey through the four Gospels. Verse by verse, he illumines the universal path to oneness with God taught by Jesus to his immediate disciples but obscured through centuries of "how to become like Christ, how to resurrect the Eternal Christ within one's self." Never before available in its entirety, this landmark work by one of the most revered spiritual teachers of our time transcends divisive sectarianism to reveal a unifying harmony underlying all true religions. A groundbreaking synthesis of East and West, it imparts the life-transforming realization that each of us can experience for ourselves the promised Second Coming -- awakening of the all-fulfilling Divine Consciousness latent within our souls. Yogananda said, "In titling this work The Second Coming of Christ , I am not referring to a literal return of Jesus to earth. He came two thousand years ago and, after imparting a universal path to God's kingdom, was crucified and resurrected; his reappearance to the masses now is not necessary for the fulfillment of his teachings. What is necessary is for the cosmic wisdom and divine perception of Jesus to speak again through each one's own experience and understanding of the infinite Christ Consciousness that was incarnate in Jesus. That will be his true Second Coming."

This book is not to be read just once. Or twice. Or even three times. It is a life-long resource for those wishing to follow The Way of Yeshua, Jesus of Nazareth. Yogananda does an excellent job of explaining exactly what Jesus meant when he gave his teachings. He includes the science and the metaphysical meaning behind the parables and stories that Yeshua left us with. It will open your eyes...and your hearts!

An awesome book. The best commentary I've ever read by anyone in the world on the true teachings of Jesus Christ.

Must read at least once.

An amazing, exhaustive yogic commentary on the "red letter" words of the New Testament, as well as related Biblical verses. It may even be an interesting read for agnostics and atheists -- as well as to believers of any stripe, and to those who've liked Thich Nhat Hanh's writings on Jesus, or are interested in the Gnostic texts -- since it bears only passing resemblance to the Americanized (and often politicized, distorted, or watered-down) Christianity that permeates the culture.

It took me a while to read this book, because there is so much amazing information. It was so insightful and inspiring I really didn't want it to end. I would definitely put this book in the top 5 books I've ever read. It's the type of book you can go back to and read over and over to glean further insights. Yogananda covers so many topics in this book as he goes through the gospels and makes them relevant in the 21st century. There is wonderful information about miracles and how they are made possible, Babaji an Indian mystic who has never died, the immortality of the soul, illusion, forgiveness, compassion, the true nature of God, illusions around heaven and hell, faith, humility, truth, and soul mates. I highly recommend this book for anyone seeking truth.

13 years of Catholic School (K-12) & church twice a week and never did I get a more comprehensive review of the religion I was raised in, until now. Understanding who Christ is and who I am inside of all that, this book delves into the heart of religion and opens the doors that the seeker seeks to find. If you are looking for dogma and rules, this is not your book. If you are seeking God, this is where you can find him. The truth has a certain ring to it and this book thunders will bells!
Seek and you shall find, knock and it shall be opened to you.

This 2 volume set is beautifully written and will take some time to read and understand its meaning. I have found it very enlightening. I suggest reading The Yoga of Jesus before starting this 2 volume set. I would recommend this to people of all faiths. Read this thoroughly and it will change your life just like Autobiography of a Yogi.

Interesting perspective, however the content is still just a theory. It is just an explanation of what Jesus did on Earth from the point of view of yoga.

The most powerful and impactful book I've ever read! Must read for anyone on the spiritual path and I put this book above all right with the Bhagavad Gita. Yogananda does an amazing job showing the true meaning of the words of Jesus without the twist that some churches or systems may use when presenting the gospels. The book also shows the correlation with the message and the parallels to Krishna, Buddha, etc. The book also does an amazing job with footnotes documenting scientific facts that have been proven since the passing of Yogananda, quoting and referencing other scriptures and books, as well as many examples of what is outlined. This is a book that I will continue to read and meditate on for the rest of my life to help further expand my devotion.

Absolutely the books with the most meaning for me. Explained in plain terms a lot of what was glossed over in many religion classes. I has so many "Aha" moments, and so many "well of course that is what was meant" moments! I recommend this for anyone who would like to have a deeper understanding of Scripture as it was meant to be understood.

Best Commentary on Jesus teachings ever!

Anyone wanting to understand Jesus teachings on a much deeper level will love this book. Written by Parahamamsa Yogananda it views the teachings of Jesus from a more metaphysical understanding . Jesus comes alive in a way that four decades in Christianity never did.for me I highly recommend it to everyone. Jesus has been so misrepresented by religion and His teachings are needed more today than ever in history.

The power of Christ's teachings has long been lost on "Christianity". Few who embrace the fundamentals of Christ's injunctions on how to attain God-vision, God-Consciousness, and intuitive wisdom realize the gift they've been bequeathed!

Paramhansa Yogananda has beautifully explained the real coming of Christ in the world.

The real coming of Christ as he explains will be an internal one, when people will find themselves after delving deep within in meditation and imbibing the qualities of Christ that will come gradually.

n "The Second Coming of Christ," Paramahansa Yogananda offers a refreshing perspective on a familiar concept. Forget about a dramatic, physical return of Jesus. Instead, Yogananda proposes a more personal and transformative experience: the awakening of the "Christ consciousness" within each of us.

This book is a treasure trove for those seeking a deeper connection with the divine. Yogananda masterfully guides readers through the Gospels, illuminating the hidden message: Jesus wasn't just a historical figure, but an embodiment of God's universal love.

Yogananda's strength lies in his ability to bridge Eastern and Western spiritual traditions. He shows how Jesus' teachings align with concepts like yoga and meditation, offering practical tools for achieving that inner Christ consciousness.

"The Second Coming of Christ" is more than just a book; it's an invitation to a profound spiritual journey. Whether you're a Christian seeking a deeper understanding of your faith, or someone interested in exploring the universality of divine love, this book offers an inspiring and thought-provoking read.

As words with all of Paramahansa Yogananda's works, words are incapable of giving adequate homage to the deep wisdom and love that emanate from his words. It is an experience to be deeply studied, reflected upon, and meditated with. This voluminous commentary sheds much needed light on the original message of Jesus—washed clear of theological dogma and blind belief, and is wisdom that has been intuitively received directly from Paramahansa Yogananda's communion with Jesus Christ. "New hope for new men!"

What I've read is magnificent... but not so timely for my experiences now, as someone living in Age of Awakening Enlightenment.

Yogananda was a GREAT Enlightenment Teacher, maybe the greatest of the World Gurus who came to the West in the century before the Shift into the Age of Awakening.

Although I loved what I read, realistically, this isn't the time for me to read more. I'm still keeping this book in a place of honor on my bookshelf. It will be there when and if I'm ready for more....

It’s taken me a second to gather my thoughts on this book. There really isn’t any way I can put into words what this book means to me. This gave me a verse by verse breakdown on Christs gospel teachings and shined light on their esoteric meanings. This was revelatory for me and I will forever use this book as a point of reference. This has quite literally CHANGED MY LIFE

Wish to see an extremely adept and Holy Christian Soul discuss this with the Author....coz you can think what you assume is true or is it really the fact according to any God....you can definitely say or write what you think is true according to your own understanding and your followers support but does it make you Divine and truly Holy...I sincerely doubt....
