Every soul has a dark corner. Only Victor Frankenstein was brave enough to play God in its shadows. Man. Creation. Monster. If music be the food of life… play on. With the help of his deceased father’s work, Victor Frankenstein develops a theory to reanimate the dead. Through the art of surgery and music, Victor creates a man capable of unmaking his life and driving the Frankenstein legacy to ruin.
Jack Wallen is what happens when a Gen Xer mind-melds with present day snark. Jack is a seeker of truth and a writer of words with a quantum mechanical pencil and a disjointed beat of sound and soul. Although he resides in the unlikely city of Louisville, Kentucky, Jack likes to think of himself more as an interplanetary traveler, on the lookout for the Satellite of Love and a perpetual movie sign...or so he tells the reflection in the mirror (some times in 3rd person). Jack is the author of numerous tales of dark, twisty fiction including the I Zombie series, the Klockwerk Movement, the Fringe Killer series, Shero, The Nameless Saga, and much more.
An excellent story with realistic and relatable characters. I enjoyed this reimagining and this has breathed life into Frankenstein and an easier why to read plus I really liked Victor's decent into madness.
Great story, Mr. Wallen have a great grasp of the language and aristocratic air of the time Well done.Frankenstein Theory Continues the story of the old classic told in a unique and entertaining way.It begs you to ask who is the true monster? If you see deformities are not it is the heart and soul of man that needs to be considered as to what does it take to be a monster. In this story we find Victor Frankenstein and his long time friend and roommate at the University Henry Clerval and Professor Waldman the Head of surgical studies as well as a member of the board.Victor is in fear of failing due to lack of respect for the manmade rules and regulations of the narrow-minded masses that you find in the world of medicine in that time.Victor hatches a clever plan as to not disappoint his family to the fact that he has been dismissed from school.Back in Geneva Switzerland he takes up his father's work of the late Baren Von Frankinstine. At Castle Frankenstein where his mother Bareness Frankenstein and his wife Elisabeth resides. Victor employed Henry to help him prove his theory. He believes the cause of his father's failure, was his lack of knowledge and understanding of electricity and the human body as well as his desire to want to gain that knowledge and to know the true importance of it.Victor has searched and employed a master in the field of electricity and the mysteries of that world, with little to no scruples, that would do what Victor requested of him without questions or fail. We watch Victors decent into madness as his night terrors increase in severity and he wonders if something beyond the grave is trying to give him a message or forewarn him of upcoming danger. This is not your grandfathers Frankenstein story. It has many twist and turns and you bear witness of Victors decent into madness. There is also the relationship's and paranoid workings inside the walls of Castle Frankenstein. A glimpse of the life of a Brilliant surgeon of the times and his home life. Mr. Jack Wallen is an innovator in the field of horror and suspense. His command of the human language no matter the era is delightful. Not only is it expensive it true to the time in a way that it doesn't bog you down or bore you. He is a prolific writer in many different genre's.Another job well done.
This is the first book I have ever read by this author . I have heard so much about him , I decided to take a chance . I am so happy I did . This isn't your parents Frankenstein, Mr. Wallen has taken the story to the next level . Everyone knows the tale of Frankenstein's monster but this story delves more into the doctor and the monster . But really who is the monster in this tale . We see a bright, talented doctor who is marred and disfigured with all the darkness that is surrounding him . He has gone corrupt and with all the darkness that he has , he can't find his way back . The monster on the other hand is beautiful but also is empty, he is the light to the doctor's darkness .
The author takes us on a twisted roller coaster ride . You honestly don't know who is the monster and who is the man sometimes . The characters are so realistic and you feel for them . You feel the doctor as he descends into his madness , as he works to finish his fathers work . With the help of his friend Henry , he tries to finish off his fathers work .
This was a great read for me , I couldn't put it down . It had so many twists and turns . I was really sure that I could figure it out . This book left me with more questions then answers and truly had me thinking the whole time I was reading . I felt like I was reading a very intelligent and well written book . I loved the old Frankenstein but Mr. Wallen has written a Frankenstein for today's readers . So if you want an intelligent book that will make you think check out FRANKENSTEIN THEORY by Jack Wallen.
I will state that I regrettably have not read the original Frankenstein or watched the movies yet. That being said I found the authors' retelling the Frankenstein story to be an excellent read. The author has a great talent at building realistic characters. The characters in this story come across a real and the dialogue appears to fit the time period that the story is set in. None of the dialogue feels forced. The story has a great pace and moves along smoothly. There is plenty of action and tension throughout and the story is never boring. The characters all have their flaws and make you consider who are the true monsters. Overall this is an excellent story with deep characters that I highly recommend.
I never thought another take on the original Frankenstein would be as good as the original. However, this new book by Jack Wallen has tied for 1st place. The story line is unique and interesting. The characters are complex enough to be interesting with out being over whelming. This book gripped me from the very first page and didn't let go until the very end. This book stays true to the original, but is so unique it stands on its own. Jack Wallen has out done himself again. I promise you, dear readers, this is one book you do not want to miss. And I suggest you set aside some time, because you will not be able to put it down.
Was a lucky Beta reader for this one. It was amazing. If you want to step back in time and have the crap scared out of you READ THIS BOOK!! So awesome!!
I enjoyed this quite a bit and I look forward to future installments. It’s a great idea, to keep the stories set in the original time period but at the same time updating the prose to make it feel more in touch with our modern times. Wallen’s take on this tale is great and I loved how much he tackled the philosophical quandaries of what Victor Frankenstein does in the course of his experiments.
