⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2! The Game, book 2 of 3. A whirlwind secret affair & high-stakes game of stolen treasures, seduction, greed, illusions, secrets & corruption!

“My life was carved into two parts, before Wilder and after him, with each careful step leading me towards this complex, enigmatic man with lines of right and wrong blurring.”

Books in The ICON trilogy should be read in order:
Book 1: The Chase
Book 2: The Game
Book 3: The Prize

In The Chase, book 1 recent college graduate and art forensic investigator Zara Elizabeth Leighton was pulled into a secret affair with a client, renowned art collector, inventor and heir to a fortune, the aloof and mercurial Tobias William Wilder, Toby aka Wilder. All while a sophisticated art thief wreaked havoc on the art world casting suspicions on everyone.

The Game, book 2 opens up to an explosive reunion and Wilder and Zara’s undefined on-again-off-again affair continuing. Controlled by the whims of a hot-cold Wilder and ignited by an, at times, emotional and impulsive Zara.

Determined on clearing her family name, Zara must learn her enemies while trying to hold her own against the larger-than-life Wilder. With everyone chasing the art thief, Icon they soon find themselves caught in a menacing game of excess, betrayal, greed, vengeance and redemption.

Seven words to describe Tobias William Wilder, Toby: Enigmatic, possessive, aloof, mysterious, commanding, charismatic and unpredictable.

Seven words to describe Zara Elizabeth Leighton: Smart, reflective, curious, stubborn, impulsive, perceptive and strong.

The Game, told from Zara’s POV, allowing Toby to remain an enigma, is an intriguing whirlwind affair high on mystery, suspense and danger. It ends with truth framed by a narrow escape leading right to book 3, The Prize for the conclusion of their saga.

A high-stakes game of stolen treasures, treacherous illusions, leveraged secrets and buried truths!

“Our sex melded together in this sensual dance, my toes curling with this unrelenting erotic tension, like a bird in a cage waiting to fly free.”

Cannot be read as a standalone

Zara Leighton is torn. Does she follow the rules? Or does she trust her heart?

Tobias is somehow involved, and Zara will not stop until she finds the truth. She travels from London to Los Angeles to confront him, but what she ends up discovering changes everything.

I really enjoyed their steamy moments, but I loved their relationship outside the bedroom. The moves they played against each other were entertaining to witness. Whenever it seemed like Zara was about to find something, Tobias was always one step ahead. I couldn't put this book down!

Second books in trilogies usually drag and disappoint, but there was never a dull moment in The Game. I'm biting my nails for book 3. Please pick this series up if you love mystery, romance, and adventure.

5 “game on!” Stars!
Exciting, intriguing and absolutely addicting ... and deliciously naughty! Tobias Wilder is seriously dreamy!

The Review:
This author NEVER fails to impress. If you think this story couldn't get more decadent, more compelling, more charged and more provocative, it most certainly did in this second installment of the ICON Trilogy! The writing is intelligent and mesmerizing, the story vivid and electric, and the characters even more enchanting and alluring than before! I loved this read and with the way it ended, I’m salivating for the third and final book in the series. It’s going to be a torturous wait, but one I’ll gladly endure to see how this fascinating story ends.

Story/Characters...
After the unbelievable and exhilarating ending from book one, the author picks up right where she left off, only this time we are taken from the lively and historic streets of London to the complex, billowing City of Angels. Believing Tobias Wilder is the infamous ICON, Zara Leighton tracks her man to his art museum in Los Angeles and as she closes in on him, her heart is torn between believing all she knew about them as a couple to be a lie, and trusting he is the man she’s come to love.

Quote Spotlight
“Our worlds were clashing and the fallout was going to leave nothing but two broken people if I wasn’t careful.”

With her heart invested and her mind confused, Zara is on a mission to save Tobias from himself, seeking the truth behind ICON. Never expecting to develop the feelings he finds himself harboring, Tobias is on a mission to possess every inch of Zara, get her to trust him and ultimately protect her.

Zara’s character is so much fun! I love her honesty and her moral compass. And I totally love her spontaneity and her penchant for getting herself into certain situations which usually lead to an exciting adventure and Tobias swooping in to save the day. As for Tobias, though more layers of his character were stripped away and his motives and personality became more transparent, he still remains a great mystery and one who impresses with his heart stopping intensity, his spine tingling sexual presence and his incomparable intelligence. The man makes me “swoon”!

These two are intoxicating together. The “sexy” is definitely amped up in this book as Zara and Tobias’s chemistry sizzle. Their romance is challenging, flirty and the sexually charged as each tries to outmaneuver the other. And it was exceedingly FUN to read!

But the books contains more than just an outstanding romance. There’s mystery and intrigue at every turn as a dark past and sinister intentions circle the elitist art world. Zara digs deeper into the thefts she’s tasked with uncovering and discovers a danger and wealth of deception she might not be prepared for. Tobias, with all his gadgetry and sleuthing skills, has to stay one step ahead of his pursuers, to not only protect himself, but also the woman he loves.

Writing Notes...
I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating. I always come away from a Vanessa Fewings book enlightened, educated and drunk off her smart, witty writing style. In this book, she really conveys her passion and love of the art world through her expert writing and storytelling. She writes with feeling and I was captivated by the world she created. I, who have hardly any knowledge of the art world, came away from the story intrigued and determined to learn more.

The Wrap Up:
The Game was deliciously clever and all around consuming. If Tobias Wilder didn’t steal your heart in the first book, he surely will in this second installment of the ICON Trilogy! A must-read!

Word of the Day...
Just a quick note. I’m a huge thesaurus fan. I love learning words. My word of the year is “skulduggery”! Never heard it before but now it’s my new favorite word! Thanks Zara and Vanessa! :)

Zara, art forensic investigator, has traveled from London to Los Angles in pursue of Icon, an art thief. While in LA, she encounters with Tobias wilder, the man that turned her world upside down. Zara is struggling with accepting who he is. Tobias is intense and seems to know her more than she knows herself. Unable to resist him, she's pulled back into his world. Zara finds herself having to choose between her heart and capturing Icon. As she sorts out her feelings, she uncovers secrets, some that can clear her family's name, and others that could be dangerous.

The Game started slowly, but once it picked up, I couldn't put it down. There are some nail biting moments. I was worried for Zara and Tobias. These parts had me turning page after page, wanting to know what was going to happen next. There were also moments when I was swooning over Tobias. This guy is close to perfect; he's amazing. He's good looking, intelligent, and perceptive, knows how to make a woman feel sexy and special. I love how he treats Zara with love and respect, and how he makes her feel. Oh, and that scene with the VR glasses had me fanning myself. Tobias sure made tech hot as hell. We see a new side of Zara. Some of it may seem out of character, but it could also be because of her new found confidence and determination. I liked this new Zara, though, she did infuriate me a few times. I literally wanted to shake some sense into her, for not listening.

The Game is a great romance with suspense set in the the art world. I'm still amazed with all the art knowledge that Vanessa Fewings put in this book. She brings art to life, much like her characters, making it an important ingredient to the story. Even though, it's the second book in the series, it still can be read without having to read the first one. A new reader wouldn't get lost. Though, I don't know why anyone wouldn't want to read The Chase.

The Game by Vanessa Fewings is the second installment to the Icon Trilogy. I was utterly captivated to Tobias and Zara's passionate, love affair. I was consumed from the very first page, and the sizzling chemistry between Zara and Tobias, was the icing on the cake.

The Game picks up a week after where The Chase ended. Zara's heart was shattered with the big revelations that were revealed in book one. And now she will stop at nothing to save the love of her life. Even if it means losing Tobias in the process.

Will she be able to save him?
Or will their relationship come burning down?
Read to find out!

Loved the second book in this series as well! I love how paintings are described so beautifully that it makes me want to go visit an art gallery. This series is so much more that you'll have to read it for yourself. Zara Leighton and Tobias Wilder are the main protagonists for each book. The mystery and clever games make this a page-turner.

The second book in the Icon trilogy is no less captivating than the previous book! I love how the things between Zara and Tobias develop and all the plot twists Vanessa had in sleeve for us.

I have to say, there were so many things I did not see coming at all. I don't want to go too deep into it as I'd like to avoid spoilers.

The Game has aspects of thriller, contemporary romance, mystery and lots of other stuff. Everyone can find something in it for themselves.

Go one-click this book asap - five stars can even define this book! Can't wait to read the third book in the trilogy!

5 GAMER stars! This is a must read you do not want to miss. It seems I can’t have enough of Tobias.

Holy heaven! It seems I can’t have enough of Tobias. After reading The Chase, he has become my new obsession. Vanessa Fewings, as the talented author she is, carries on with her elegant writing. This time she exceeded my expectations of what I found in the second instalment of the Icon Trilogy. She left me really anxious and pretty curious of the secret behind Icon. Questions like who was him and what does he want? Are answered in The Game.

Some could say that this book can be read without reading the first but trust me you do not want to miss any clue. I highly recommend you to read first The Chase before reading The Game.

I devoured this book in a day. I couldn’t put it down. I am officially addicted to Vanessa’s writing. The plot is captivating. The way she mixed a hot romance and suspense left you wanting more.

In this book Zara is chasing Icon. She already know who he is. She travelled to Los Angeles. All the answers she needs are there. After the disappearance of one of her father’s paintings, for second time, she wants to confirm what she already discovered. She also needed to clean her father’s name. Falling for Tobias meant trouble. Seeing him again will be bittersweet. His first reaction will hurt her. Nevertheless she will fight for him. Saving him will be her priority.

“This magnetic pull toward him was impossible to resist. It wasn’t just me saving him but him saving me too. I saw this now because all this pain and deceit I’d endured in my past slipped away when I was in his arms.”

Will she risk her career? Being a part of the team who is helping the Interpol will make it really complicated because she can lose her credibility as an art consultant. Her dreams will be in danger but Tobias worth it. Zara will not give up on him.

On the other side we have Tobias. He is also having issues with his priorities. Zara has change his world for good. His past is not letting him living a future with the woman he loves. His previous commitments shall be fulfilled.

“Damm you for making me fall for you… It’s so fucking inconvenient.”

The priorities of both characters will change. Zara and Tobias will have to decide what is best for the other. Being together does not seem easy. And to top it all, everything will turn against them. Zara will manage to save the man she loves and she will bring up her dominant side. However Icon's shadow will make things complicated for both of them.

“I am his willing prisoner, weak and needful for his cock that is pressing my abdomen with a promise of being inside me.”

Be prepared for a mind-blowing story with wonderful characters. This book is beautifully addictive. Let Vanessa take you to the art world and pack your bags because we are traveling from London to Los Angeles. If I could give more than five stars, I give this book million stars. This is a must read you do not want to miss.

Let Tobias seduce you with his cocky smile and clever mind.

Good Lord! I need to catch my breath!! I was INSANELY hooked on the first book in this series, The Chase (Get on this NOW if you haven't read it!), and could not start the second book fast enough!! Following the cliffhanger ending in the first book, I absolutely could not get enough of Tobias and Zara and the combustible chemistry between them. This novel was filled with intrigue, suspense, adventure and passion and was such a brilliant addition to the trilogy. I am now DYING in anticipation for the third book!

Following the cliffhanger ending in book one, The Game starts off a week later as London art investigator Zara Leighton is left reeling from the shocking revelations in book one. She must now chase after her lover, Tobias Wilder, as clues led her to believe that the charismatic and reclusive Billionaire and Icon, the word's most elusive and slickest art thief are one and the same. But can she reconcile her duty to capture him to do what is right with her forbidden need to be with the man who consumes her - body, mind and soul?

I was absolutely consumed by this book. I loved Zara and Tobias passion and deep feelings for one another and the fact that despite their apparent mistrust of one another, their obvious feelings of adoration and obsession could not be denied. I love that Fewings was able to aptly depict Zara's misgivings about Icon. On one hand she had a strict code of right and wrong as an Art Investigator, but on a personal level was torn up about losing the man she loved. Likewise Tobias and his innate sense of justice needed to balance his love and loyalty to Zara and his need to right the wrongs of the past at the hands of a criminal mastermind.

In addition, similarly to the first book, the real standout in The Game was the art itself. It took center stage as you can't help but get lost in the story and the history of each painting and gallery. Ms. Fewings has a remarkable gift in that she can paint a picture for her readers with a myriad of colors not only highlighting her exceptional ability as a writer but also highlighting her seamless ability to weave history and drama to transport you right alongside her characters. All in this was a fantastic addition to the series and I can not wait for the conclusion later this year! Bravo! 5 stars! ~Ratula

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

**POSSIBLE SPOILERS** Please read book one before continuing. I really try to never give spoilers but the review in itself is a spoiler being that its book two.

I’m not even sure where to start. The second book in the ICON series, The Game, by Vanessa Fewings is beyond heart-stopping. I raced through the book I had to know what would happen next! Then when I read it I was buzzing with excitement. The suspense is enough to cause some serious heart palpitations.

Zara has ventured into unknown terrority and you want to scream at her. “TURN BACK!” but it’s too late. It was too late the moment she met Tobias.

In the second installment of the ICON series we pick up a week after book one has ended. Zara is heartbroken and determined. She will stop ICON, even if it costs her the love of her life. Can she stop him and keep him at the same time?

Tobias is nearing his end game and has one more heist to pull off until he can rest. Is he pushing the limits? Will this be his downfall?

The continued chemistry between Zara and Tobias keeps you rooting for them from beginning to end. They are exactly what the other needs to grow, let’s just hope they both see that as well.

I love that the story is international. Book one was in the UK and now book two is in the US. It adds such depth when a writer can travel the globe and bring you along for the ride.

In this book I grow to love Tobias for who he is as a person. In book one I didn’t really know if I could trust him and I still don’t but I accept him. He’s a strong character and will only continue to grow.

Zara is so head strong and hurt from her past that I can only hope that book three will bring her peace. She deserves it.

I am at a loss as to how to review this book.

Was it great? Yes, it was. There were a couple of small things that I am not sure I was totally on board with, and one little thing that seemed out of character for Zara, but nothing major and I see the reason for the author's choice.

Did you learn more about Tobias and Zara? Yes, you definitely did. And, their relationship certainly grows and evolves.

Did it further their relationship? Yes, it did. They are definitely not in the same place at the end of this book as they were at the end of the 1st one.

Did it take turns you will NOT see coming? Oh, it so did that, this definitely happened.

Was it well written and engaging? Yes, it was. You are so drawn to the characters, and to the story, that you don't want to put it down.

Is being specific about any of this a super huge spoiler? Yup.

So, I have literally nothing to say as I would not want to ruin this for another reader.

Go, read the first one, be enthralled by this one, and wait on the edge of your seat for the 3rd installment. To tell you anything else would spoil it.

I recommend this title.

In book 2, the game of cat and mouse has suddenly turned deadly.

Icon is revealed, but so are the bad guys...but wait, isn't Icon the bad guy? The Feds are on the case now and the investigation is closing in on all sides. The Feds, with the help of Zara's own investigative team, have jumped to the wrong conclusions and now her world is in chaos and she could lose everything. Only one thing left to do.....run!

This is by far the most cerebral romantic suspense story I have ever had the pleasure of reading. It's clear the author has a deep love for art or maybe the research needed to bring the story to life, because her grasp of the art world and the showcased artwork is impeccable.

My only area of disappointment with the story is the way Zara constantly assumes the worst of Tobias. OK, to be clear, he's not perfect, but girl! that man runs romantic circles around Prince Charming, stop already! LOL! I'm really looking forward to the conclusion, The Prize.

I really enjoyed The Chase but The Game was even better. The Game seemed to have a much faster pace than the first book. There was a good balance of mystery and romance. I loved the cat and mouse game that seemed to exist between Zara and Tobias. And of course I loved all the art discussions and descriptions. A must read especially if you enjoyed the first book. The only drawback is I now have to wait for the third book.

Received in exchange for a honest review.
The cat and mouse game between Tobias and Zara has really heated up. Zara is on his tail and heals and in California where she knows he is and knows who he is. Only Tobias doesn’t acknowledge it in a way that she wants. He doesn’t shy away either. He has noble reasons for his actions and Zara, although understanding about that, doesn’t like it.
Zara gets to learn about him as well. He sees that vision he has and his museum is amazing. Zara sees old friends, gives a lecture and truly learns more about herself and Tobias. What she learns about the paintings from her home do have her do some rash dangerous things that expose Tobias in ways he didn’t want while also getting the law on their heels and Zara’s company she works for as well.
The story expands and becomes more complex with more subtle nuances that the reader appreciates because they add more depth and suspense and also a hint of mischievousness as well. Tobias and Zara gain a new depth and in a way openness. There isn’t any pussyfooting the elephant in the room but it adds a new dimension to their relationship. Zara reacts to what she knows and Tobias uses this for entertainment and to show her he trusts her and also supports her. You see that he loves her and is taking a huge risk with her but she doesn’t always see this. And what is driving her isn’t chasing Icon right now but finding out more about the paintings of her past. Those that were a part of her childhood and ones she loves. At some point it becomes a singular focus and not just because of the paintings but because of the implications and what she can prove with them and expose. Only she doesn’t see the big picture and throws caution to the wind. A interesting moment for Zara to see. She is usually more pragmatic and level headed. Tobias’ s character grows more open and less boxed in. He has found one to trust and let in and he does with Zara. He enjoys the banter and cat and mouse game. In a way I think the toying around with Zara is flirting and foreplay for him. He is at ease with himself and their situation. At the end he is placed in a precarious situation that changes the rules and plan but he doesn’t fuss instead deals and changes his plans. He is now in a run for more than he thought and I think it stimulates him.
The romance portion is steamy and heats up the suspense. It adds a dimension to the game for them. More intrigue and tension but also more sparks and danger. It brings another element to their relationship and shows how dynamic the characters and story is. A stay on the edge of your seat story that really blows the mind and adds a new dimension to cat and mouse chase of a game and romance in and of itself while keeping you truly enthralled in the tale. And that ending has you wondering how they are going to work out and what are they going to do next.
