We need a replanting movement. A movement where God uses ordinary pastors, church leaders, and lay people to bring declining and dying churches back to life. A movement where churches which once lacked a hope, even a pulse, become outposts of replanting themselves. A movement that mobilizes God's people behind this shared purpose for God's glory. A movement where God does what only He can do. We need a replanting movement. In Replant Roadmap, Mark Hallock will help you begin to think through the "why's" and "how's" of replanting dying congregations, helping them to experience renewed hope and revitalization. The need for replanting healthy, gospel-centered churches is greater than ever. What role will you and your church play?
This book excites me and overwhelms me at the same time. Recently God has laid upon my heart a local church that I have been reaching out to because it is dying...then I saw this book, read the first 2 chapters and thought, "that is exactly what I want to do." EXCITEMENT! Then, Hallock starts to go into the nitty grotty details of how he thinks each little piece should be accomplished..and OVERWHELMING!
It is a great roadmap, hence I assume the name. I also think there is freedom HOW to implement everything he talks about. I think the depth of direction, not cutting corners, is very important, but I don't think the SBC and/or Acts 29 model is the only way. I have had positive and negative interactions with both and I think much depends on the humbleness of the people you interact with.
Anyway, I hope the replanting movement takes off not just in our area, but in our world. We need revitalized churches who love Jesus with a passion. I am going to get my staff to read this and hopefully make a game plan for how we can not only help plant churches, but replant churches.
A helpful way forward for replanting churches. It is focused primarily on the relationship of a sending church to the replant. Yet, there is a lot of helpful information for the replant pastor and the replanted church to work through. The focus on relationships between the sending and replanted church is a significant contribution of Replant Roadmap. No church can plant or replant alone. Planting needs to be carried out in community. Ideally, a replant works in relationship with both a denomination and partnering churches.
Hallock's work encouraged me to focus more on discovering and developing partnering churches. As we seek to replant our church we need others to come alongside of us. Ch. 11, Creating a Strategy for Support, was especially helpful. If every sending church did this the success rate for plants and replants would soar. May God raise up such mission-outward focused sending churches.
Very practical. My main knock is that I found it very particular in how to go about this. There is some very specific advice, given with a lot of force. I think I’ll be mining good ideas from the book, but am debating if the specific model advocated is one I’m on board with.
