Red Dirt #3.5

Red Dirt Heart Christmas

Rate this book
Travis had been here at Sutton Station for just over a year. We were technically engaged, not that we'd told anyone. He was happy just knowin' I'd said yes, and I had some head-clearin' stuff to work through. Knowing I was good enough for Trav was one thing, but knowing if I was good enough to be a husband and father was somethin' else entirely. Life at Sutton Station had never been better. Business was strong, Trudy and Bacon's little baby, Gracie, was a few weeks old now and as cute as a button, Ma's health was good, and my relationship with Laura and Sam was in a pretty good place. And Travis? Well, life with him was still all kinds of perfect. But, to Travis's dismay, Christmas at the Station was just another day. Another day of getting up before the sun, feeding animals, fixin' what needed fixin', and checking water troughs all while tryin' to keep out of the blistering heat. And this year weren't much different. Only that it was Travis's first Sutton Station Christmas. The fact we didn't go all out with decorations and celebrations baffled him, and if I was bein' truthful, it disappointed him too. Which was why I had to make it a special kind of Christmas... Red Dirt Heart Christmas is approx 14,000 words. Please note: While this story is Travis' first Christmas at Sutton Station, it doesn't strictly fit into the series timeline. PAPERBACK ONLY BONUS STORY Red Dirt Heart Imago (approx 18,000 words)

“Die Hard isn’t a Christmas movie, Charlie.”
“Yes it is. There’s Christmas carols in it.”
“It’s true,” Ma chimed in from somewhere down the hall. “He watches it every Christmas Eve.”

I was grinning like a total maniac from start to finish. I’ll read every word about Charlie and Travis and this.. this was SUCH a treat and even made me cry. Twice. On 70 pages. Wow.

NRW really outdid herself here with this little found and chosen family 🥹
Off to the last one, even though I never want this series to end 😭

Reading the Red Dirt Heart series feels like coming home.

It’s Travis’ first Christmas at Sutton Station where that time of the year never was a big deal, but things are going to be different now. Travis is a little homesick and he decorates the whole house while Charlie plans a surprise for him to make their Christmas special.

These guys make me so happy that sometimes I think my heart is going to burst. I missed everyone so much, I loved visiting them again. The humor, steam and the holiday feelings were delightful. This story was just so perfect that I literally got teary eyed when I finished reading it. I can't recommend it enough!

Before reading:

This Christmas season I got a short story about David & Isaac from Keira Andrews and now I'm getting one about Charlie & Travis from N.R. Walker?! *flails* My excitement knows no bounds.

After Reading:

Well, this story could have used a bit more steam, but the sweetness and connection between this couple was everything I could have asked for an more. Honestly, reading about Charlie and Trav makes me SO happy, I can't contain the grinning (not that I'd want to).

I know that Ms. Walker feels like their story is finished, but I would happily read about Sutton Station and all of its inhabitants until I'm old and grey.

You did it again. I don't even have the words to convey how wonderful this Christmas novella was. Talk about warm fuzzies y'all.

This story was:

*Romantic
*Endearing
*Sensual
*Humorous

Charlie and Travis are one of my all-time favorite M/M couples, and to be reunited with them and the rest of the gang warmed my heart. I felt like I got to visit old friends for the holidays. It was like chicken soup for the soul. I really can't go much deeper than that because I don't want to give away any juicy details away. Plus, you want to experience the story first hand. You'll be immediately thrust back into their world. Trust me when I say: I know fans of the series will fall in love all over again with these guys. This holiday story was just perfection. Go 1 click on this one, guys!!! 5 ♥

Rereading, because it's Christmas and Charlie an Travis are just perfect!

~ Cuteness overload ! ~

“Maybe next year we can go and have a Texas Christmas.”
“You mean that?”
“Anything for you.”

...and the thin cotton sheet draped over his thighs, but the rest of him was on full glorious view. I swear he slept naked to tease me.

There's nothing more perfect than spending a Christmas with you favorite couple.
I love keep coming back to Sutton station with my boys Charlie and Travis.
I love how slutty and naughty Travis to Charlie, and he never change a bit, still the best Charlie could ever have. Ever.

This is a perfect short Christmas story from Sutton station.
Thanks Nic ! They're perfect !

Welcome back to Sutton Station!

Fans of Red Dirt Heart, you do not want to miss this! When it popped up in my inbox, I had to take a few minutes to calm myself down.

This story takes place between book 3 and 4. There's no Millie yet, and it's Travis' first Christmas in Australia. But the whole gang is there; Ma and George, Trudy, Bacon and little Gracie.

I don't want to give away too much, just know that there is a lot going on in these few pages. Broken noses, misbehaving wombats, snakes that try to pass for tinsels and a lot of red, red dirt.

But the best part was the sweet, funny and sexy moments between Travis and Charlie, the warm family times and the best of Christmas surprises.

I 've read a lot of great Christmas stories this year, but this one is special and it made me feel like coming home.

Recommended, of course!

I was (and honestly still am) confused if I was supposed to read this before or after I read book 4. I think this book is supposed to take place between book 3 & 4 - but then again book 4 has them celebrating Thanksgiving - & this book has them celebrating Christmas so I have no idea on the time line. Oh well, I'm not going to think too hard about it. This was cute enough for a Christmas novella but meh.

This perfectly toned, sweet holiday short takes place in between Red Dirt Heart 3 and Red Dirt Heart 4. Travis and Charlie are spending their very first Christmas together along with Ma and George, Trudy, Bacon and their 4 week old daughter, Gracie, and Billy. While Sutton Station hasn't really celebrated Christmas in a long while, now that Travis is there Charlie has a surprise up his sleeve for Travis which will make this year the most memorable Christmas ever.

I absolutely LOVE this series and these characters. Getting to see this little snippet of time was such a lovely treat. I love that Walker didn't seem to just slapdash this together, it's really treated with all the sexiness, humor, love and wonder it should be. Because fans of the this series love these characters like they're family, and this was exactly like an opportunity to revisit with family. Warm and comforting and full of love.

love explosion
I nodded. “Yep. I never want to disappoint you, Travis,” I said quietly. “And doin’ stuff to make your partner happy is what being in a relationship is all about, yeah? And it was your first Christmas here. I wanted you to be happy. That’s all.”

I loved this - start to finish - there wasn't a moment I didn't find something to exclaim or melt over.
merry christmas

ARC of Red Dirt Christmas was generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. This review has been cross-posted at Gay Book Reviews.

When Gigi asked me if I’d like to read and review NR Walker’s Christmas RDH story, I was sure that Christmas came early! And I wasn’t wrong. The Red Dirt Heart series is one of my all-time favorites and any time I get the chance to visit Charlie and Travis, I’m going to take it.

Red Dirt Christmas takes place at what would have been Travis’ first Christmas with Charlie and so is set between books 3 and 4. That’s a pretty awesome thing, to me, because I am happy that Milly doesn’t exist, yet, so she isn’t there. Nothing against babies, but she took over the epilogue for book 4, and I didn’t really want her to take over this story, too. I’ll find an attention stealing wombat cute, but a baby? Not really. They’re cute, for sure, when they aren’t interrupting sex and sleep all the time. So, Red Dirt Christmas was a perfect Christmas short story for me.

It’s a bit weird for this northern hemisphere person to think about Christmas being in the summer, but that’s exactly the season, Down Under. No snow, just unbearably hot temperatures and blazing sun. And that’s not the only thing that’s different. All new traditions take place – Billy will tell you all about them ;-).

Seeing Travis and Charlie again was like coming home after a long stay away. They were happy and adorable and sexy and there was even some steam! There was also a broken nose, some heat stroke and a bitey, possessive wombat. But hell, even all that was kind of cute.

I can’t say too much more without giving away important bits, but Red Dirt Christmas is sure to keep your inner Scrooge away. Fans of the series will not be disappointed, at all. I mean, how could they be? It’s Charlie and Travis!

Charlie and Travis continue to be one of my favorite and most loved literary couples. I don't think I'll ever get enough of them.

This was the perfect holiday treat! A beautiful snippet of what their first Christmas together was like. It had all the elements that you've come to expect from this series. Humor, love and family. These characters have firmly ingrained themselves in my heart and I love any time I get to visit with them.

"It's about building memories, Charlie. Family memories. Not just with everyone here, but OUR family. Ours start now. This is OUR first real Christmas too and I just thought it might be nice if you, you know, thought it was special too."

"I do. And I gotta say, Trav, when you talk family as in me and you, it does somethin' to me in here," I said, putting his hand to my chest. "Can you feel that? Makes my heart go beat itself all outta rhythm."

"Why do you have to go saying stuff like that?" he whispered, before he nudged his nose to mine.

"Same reason you do your nose nudgin' thing. But I don't need it to be Christmas Day to remind me how lucky I am. I wake up every day with you in my bed, so I KNOW how lucky I am."

If you haven't read this series yet, what are you waiting for??? Begin making better life choices right now....pick up this series and discover the beauty and magic of Charlie and Travis!

If you're a fan if the Red Dirt Heart series...

You don't want to miss this one. It's Charlie and Travis's first Christmas and it's everything the books were warm, loving, sweet, sexy, filled with laughter and passion set against a beautiful backdrop of red dirt...Australian red dirt.

If you haven't read the series than I highly recommend that you do. It's worth it, every book in this series was a joy and a treat to read and with addition of this story that doesn't change.

A special thank you to one busy Enabling Elf here on the Secret Santa gift exchange that I participate in every year. I loved this book and enjoyed every word. Thank you for taking me to Australia for Christmas. Also as I keep telling my husband...Die Hard is a legit Christmas movie...Charlie said so.

Oh Charlie! He was quite the superstar in this one. Every time I think I can't love him any more than I do, he goes and does something as epically wonderful as this. I can't get enough of him and Travis and life at Sutton Station. I could do without that Australian Christmas Tinsel though.

I actually read this whole book hearing Joel Leslie's voice in my head. I've been listening to the series on Audible and I'm totally hooked. Now I can't stop hearing these boys in my head. Believe me...it's not a bad problem to have. In fact, it's pretty nice!!!

What a magnificent way to start my 2016 Christmas reads.

These two are so funny! I love their relationship and friendship!!

Billy snapped his fingers in my face. “You in there, boss?”
Travis turned around and, realising I’d been busted totally checkin’ him out, he grinned. And seeing that Billy wasn’t lookin’ at him, Travis licked his lips all suggestive like, and ran his free hand over his abs as he turned to walk out.
I flung horseshit at him.

And of course, it wouldn't be Charlie and Travis without some sweet sweet feels!

I just liked to watch him sleep. Not in some creepy way. More like in an I-still-can’t-believe-it kinda way. It amazed me still that this man was mine . And I had no doubt, I’d still be amazed forty years from now.

It was also nice reading about heatstroke in Christmas instead of perfectly snow-capped trees and rosy cheeks. Pure Australia. Oh and who doesn't say pressies?

This was my final Christmas read of the year and boy was it a good one! I purposefully left this until last because I wanted to round out my epic festive reading binge with a bang and I knew this story would deliver!

I'm devo that this offering was so short, simply because I'm a greedy bitch and could happily read about Charlie and Trav (and Ma, and George, and Billy, and Nugget, etc etc) until the cows come home. There's no doubt that the Red Dirt series will always remain as one of my all-time favourite book series, so I'll take any and all little snippets of life on Sutton Station as I can get!

MERRY FRICKEN CHRISTMAS!

I know I yap on about how emotional this series makes me, but it also has great humour that makes me laugh so much. My sense of humour is so similar to Charlie's and I love how he winds Travis up 😂

I love the Christmas surprise and I really love Travis and Charlie's relationship.

It's one of those dull grey and clammy cold Middle-European November days when every couch is a temptation and your mind is set on chocolate and some background music in minor, so why not start the Holiday reading season, why not visiting one of my favorite couples on the other side of the globe. Does it matter that it's summer down under, that Travis suffers a heat-stroke, that sweat pearls glide over red dirt covered abs? No it doesn't matter, it even helps quite a lot to blow away the early winter blues, conquers it with banter and romance in equal doses of sap and fun and at least for that short hour read it lets you join the family celebrating the joy of belonging together. So even the grey outside your window becomes less ugly and more cozy and who cares if it's early November and Christmas still far away.
