Second in a super series about an anti-big-bad wolf and his adventures
This takes place directly after the first (Little Wolf's Book of Badness), when Little Wolf is now running Cunning College and about to turn it into Adventure Academy, with his brother and cousin. As with the first, it is in letter format and each written to his parents, who we never see a reply from.
Little Wolf is lovely, good at heart (despite his parents' hopes!), though still cheeky, he's also pretty smart and a great role model. Even if his spelling leaves much to be desired!
This was a lovely read-out-loud choice for bedtimes, my seven year old wanted this straight after we'd read the first. Unfortunately the libraries don't have the others in the series so we might have to trawl the second hand websites for them, as he's keen to read the others now.
In this volume, Little Wolf's cousin and brother arrive to run the Academy with him. Their uncle Big Bad's stash of money turns up, but so does a dastardly sneak (who readers from book 1 will remember) keen to get his hands on it, and leads the threesome on a merry dance around the country. Little Wolf will have to overcome his fears, the cold, his hunger to save the day.
The letters home are wonderful, such a great technique which adds humour (Dear Mad and Dum, From L W Esquire, Yours feduply) to the tale, a great teaching tool as well. A fun story as well, it's one you COULD read without the first, but makes more sense if you know the story that has come before, as it is referred to.
I hope we can find the next volumes! Will suit listeners aged 5 onwards, and independent readers aged 8 and above will manage this. Could make a nice class read for teachers looking at letter writing skills.
I stumbled upon this when I was trying to find a different book, and I guess you can call me a tough grader unless it's a book that touches my heart or has very well developed characters. In this case, I would've given this a 3 1/2, but I have it a 3 because I wasn't really wanting to read this in the first part, and really just wanted to read it so I could read the other thing. If you like this type of book, go for it, but I wasn't too into it, I just read it because It wouldn't go away from my "currently reading" list. I mean, I've been in my own little world of lesbian romance novels and fantasy novels for so long I forgot things like this existed, so give it a try, I thought it was okay.
This is written as 1-2 page diary entries as authors by a young wolf. Kind of dorky charming, with a few illustrations showing the shenanigans as they try to start their school and . The illustrations are charming. As it's written by a young wolf, there are misspelled words, but there are also good new words for kids to learn.
I can't bring myself to read the whole thing though (I skimmed the last third). But I could see a younger kid loving this, maybe 2nd or 3rd grade. The short diary entries give lots of good pauses for readers getting into longer books.
As a child these little wolf books were my favourite. As an adult I just found them boring and generally a bit pointless. I do see the appeal for younger children though and I’ll just donate to my school library for others to enjoy.
I wanted to read this immediately after reading the previous Little Wolf story. I loved the first one and thought this one had to be just as good! And I am so glad that little me was right!
I enjoyed this book just as much as the first one! After Little wol's uncle dies he gets the school and starts teaching the cubs how to be good adventurers. Aparently there's links to scouting in this but I never picked up on it as a child.
This time it is all diary entries, still with spelling mistakes, which I think are cute but I suppose could annoy parents, but I knew that there were mistakes and that a little wolf couldn't write properly because wolves don't have the same education as people, I thought that was quite logical as a little one myself. I especially loved when there were crossings out, because it made the entries much more realistic.
Wow it has been a long time since I seen this book. I was a child in the library and saw the title of the book and picked it up. After reading a few pages I decided to check it out and was in love with the story. It has been 12 years so I don't remember most of the story at all and reading it today might only bring fond memories. A book not for my age today but for the 7 year old child back then, was an amazing story of little wolf's adventure.
The Little Wolf series is just too cute! All of the books are adorable. However, some parents and teachers may not like that the book has purposeful misspellings, like enuff for enough, etc. They could be used as a talking point about correct spelling.
Oikein soma pikku kirja. Kylliksi sisältöä vähän paremmin lukevalle, kyllin lyhyet luvut vielä harjoittelevalle. Hyvin voimakkaasti jatko-osa edeltäjälleen (Pikku Suden Ilkeilykirja), mutta tarinasta pääsee kärryille lukematta edellistä osaa. Tony Rossin kuvitus on sympaattinen.
This one was a struggle to get threw just because of the badly done grammar. I get that the author is trying to stay in head of his character but when its the entire book and not just a word or two then its a nightmare especially when the sentence structure don't make any sense.
