Shame over her father’s arrest sends socialite Aurelia Northcliffe running for a new home and a new name. After she makes sure her younger sister is secure, she travels west to become a mail-order bride in Jubilee Springs, CO. Not only is she shocked at the size of the tiny mining town, the men she’s matched with make her second guess her decision. One potential groom is much too unsophisticated and the other much too discerning--even if he’s the one who makes her feel safe. Mine Manager Declan MacNeill prides himself on following rules to the letter. Initially resistant to the upcoming bride event, he remembers his short marriage in Ireland and realizes what he’s been missing. His first sight of his potential bride sets his protective instincts on high alert. Everything about her behavior indicates she’s keeping secrets. And Declan is determined on finding out why.
As a child, Linda was often found lying on her bed reading about characters having exciting adventures in places far away. Upon reaching a landmark birthday, she decided to write one of those romances she loved so much. Easier said than done. Perseverance paid out and twelve years later, she received her first call from a publisher and a confession story was published. Now Linda writes heartwarming contemporary and historical stories with a touch of humor, and many have a tie to her previous home of Texas. Linda enjoys writing from her cabin in the mountains among the cedar and pines with her husband of 34 years and their two much-loved dogs.
I very much enjoyed this sweet romance. As we were introduced to Aurelia, I wondered how she would find a compatible mate among a group of miners. The author set up both Declan's and Byron's characters well. The story was well-written, interesting and descriptive.
I loved this book. All the miners sent off for brides but not enough came so they had to choose.I loved the courting process innonly a few days they forged a partnership.I couldn't put this down.
This is a very cute story about mail-order brides that come to Jubilee Springs and in this first story each girl is courted by two men.
Aurelia comes from a wealthy family, but her father is arrested and she and her sister have to flee town. Aurelia needs a new name, and marriage will provide that. The two men that Aurelia is paired with are world's apart. One is an Irishman who quotes Shakespeare, whom Aurelia loves. The other is crass and not very well spoken. She has no idea how she got paired up with him except that she let her sister write her first letter and the couples are paired by handwriting analysis.
Aurelia slowly reveals her secrets and sees who is going to stick with her.
I personally can't call this a clean read. To me, a French Kiss is TMI and doesn't belong in a clean read. I was born in an era where that kind of kiss was saved for marriage and that was way after this time-period. To be realistic, she should have slapped him when he tried it! If not for that I would have given the story five stars.
Perfectly Mismatched by Linda Carroll-Bradd is a sweet mail-order bride romance. It is interesting to follow Aurelia Northcliffe through scandal, trying to cling to her old life, trying to fit in in her new life and how these events change her. This is a short story that can be read in one sitting if you have no interruptions or work to do. The story is well written and the characters are developed. My one disappointment was not finding out what Aurelia heard back from her letter to her sister, Rilleta. I did receive an ARC but voluntarily read and gave my honest and fair review.
I liked the beginning the best. For the first book in the series, I was a bit disappointed that the intensity of the beginning fear she had for her and her sister, just disappeared when she arrived in Jubilee Springs. Also as unique as her and her sister's names were, that stopped me every time I tried to say thier names. I spent too much time trying to pronounce their names, as was confused that none of the characters thought their names were difficult or even different.
This book was captivating from the start. Wondering what would become of the main n character after something tragic happens and she has to run away. But where she ends up running to is filled with the love and comfort she so needs. There is no sexual references or language so I can recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a good book.
I enjoyed this book so much I wanted to read about Aurelia's sister so am skipping to book nine then will return to the next in the series book two! - Babs
