Kicked off the ranch after coming out to his parents, Josh finds himself seeking refuge at his grandfather's cabin deep in the forests of Montana. The escape gives him time to clear his head and figure out a new direction for his life.
What he didn't expect was for his peaceful vacation to take a violent turn. When attacked by a wolf while he's hiking, Josh figures his luck couldn't get any worse. That is until he meets Kurt.
Kurt is the alpha of the Terrin Pass Pack, and he knows that it wasn't a normal wolf that bit Josh. Defending Josh from danger is now his only concern, but in doing so, he risks losing his heart to the man he's supposed to protect.
When menacing forces threaten them both, Josh must come to accept that everything in life isn't as it seems. Things do go bump in the night, and more lingers in the moonlight than he ever imagined.
Emotions are high as the two fight off the evil around them, but as they lean on each other for support, they find that together they can face anything life throws their way.
E.M. Leya lives surrounded by the beautiful mountains in Salt Lake City, Utah with her amazing daughter and loving pets. She is passionate about the world we live in and current events, deeming herself a "news junkie". She believes that we are all here to create something beautiful, whether it's through our talents or our actions. She enjoys writing stories that take us deep into real world problems while showing that love can happen for anyone, regardless of how dark their past might be.
This was a good read. Josh who grew up on a ranch was kicked out when he came out to his parents. While out hiking he is attacked by a wolf. Kurt is the alpha of the Terrin Pass Pack, and he knows that it wasn't a normal wolf that bit Josh. I really liked both of these characters Josh is reluctant to trust both Kurt and what is happening to his body. These two had a lot of issues to work out. I also liked how each of them able to overcome. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
What is it with people who get attacked by wild animals and not going to see a medical professional?
Josh has been thrown out by his father from the ranch he worked on most of his life when he comes out as gay. His grandfather steps in and tells him to use the cabin in the mountains until he has talked some sense into his son, Josh's father. Josh meets Kurt, the Forest Ranger, and it turns out that Kurt's dad and Josh's Grandpa are friends. Then Josh gets attacked by a black wolf. His back gets scratched and his neck gets bitten but luckily another wolf attacks the black wolf, which gives Josh the time to run back to the cabin. Only once Josh thinks about reporting the attack but quickly dismisses it, afraid that hunters would swarm the land to hunt the wolves. When Kurt checks on Josh again, Kurt can't believe that state Josh is in. But he has to tell Josh that he has been bitten by a werewolf and that he will need the help for his first transformation and how to live with being a wolf. And of course Josh won't believe his own eyes or Kurt's words. Even when Grandpa rocks up and tries to convince Josh he is still a non-believer. Eventually Kurt gets through and gives Josh a crash course in Werewolf 101.
I enjoyed reading this story, although it was pretty much predictable. Josh's character was a bit back and forth with his own emotions, his struggle with his wolf, but when he is about to lose Kurt he and his wolf come to an agreement and all the puzzle pieces in his head fall into place, making it so much easier to shift and to enjoy the enhancements of being a werewolf. Then the rogue wolf shows up again and oh my, what a disappointment that Tyler never wanted Josh as a wolf but was always after Kurt, the Alpha and the pack he would win if he killed Kurt. All in all an entertaining story. And I did like Kurt.
2.5 How to become a werewolf 101 with a lot of explaining the facts and the rest is only telling instead of showing. The only surprise was the rough and sometimes weird sex but certainly not the insta-mate.
The story was entertaining and a pretty quick read. To get to the point:
Things I liked: 1. Sexy wolf times 2. Liked how even though the wolf and person were essentially one, the author took the time to show the struggle between the two personalities in the beginning. 2. The bloody meat and self pleasure scenes were interesting IMO. Even though I think others might find it disturbing, I didn't. I thought it went right along with the story. Showing his slow transition as the wolf slowly started to come forward; the primal side.
Things that I didn't care for: 1. I wish there was more character and world development. 2. The whole parent thing was okay; predictable. No emotion IMO. Felt rushed at the end of the book. 3. Thought it was a bit weird that while Kurt was Alpha he answered to his boss that was also a shifter. I could understand a human, but another shifter and he's the Alpha....that was a bit off for me.
In the end, everyone gets their HEA. I am intrigued how the rest of the series will pan out.
Kicked off the family ranch by his father when he comes out, Josh finds himself aimless as he has lost his livelihood, home, and family. Sent to the family cottage by his accepting grandfather, Josh finds himself contemplating what's next while trying to enjoy Terrin Pass. But after meeting a Park Ranger, Kurt, that he would love to know better, Josh finds himself attacked by a wolf and his entire life changes.
I've been reading plenty of alpha/omega wolf shifter books lately, so the fact that this was the furthest things possible from that was a refreshing change. The pack has an alpha, and the rest of the wolves fall into hierarchy by strength. There is respect for those stronger, but it does not make them less than equals, nor does it force the weaker wolves to have crap jobs.
This book rides the line of insta-love and relationships. At the beginning Josh is human and simply attracted to Kurt, with Kurt also interested in Josh. Being bitten changes Josh as well as putting their relationship through the ringer as Kurt tells him about mates. While Josh is changing and learning to be a wolf he still doesn't have full control of his senses so the idea of insta-love does not come up again until Josh can embrace his wolf.
I really enjoyed how the book went with training Josh to be a wolf and figuring out a new step in his life. Kurt was openly gay and showed Josh that around Terrin Pass that was okay. Having the opportunity of pack gave Josh hope for a new loving family, but Kurt didn't let Josh forget his own family, and worked to make it that he try and reconcile with them without changing himself. Through it all Kurt trained Josh to be a shifter while being open and supportive, but stern as needed to be a good teacher.
Found this a great book, easy read, and with an interesting paranormal world. I look forward to seeing more from this series and a further expanding of this world!
To my ratings: A 3,5* is clicked with a 4* but in review marked as 3,5*:
5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-Away-book like ‘Jesse's Smile’ or ‘Joey’ from Angelique Jurd, ‘Save the the kids’ series from EM Leya, ‘Love’s Tethered Heart’ from C.L. Etta or ‘Liberty’ from Seth King), it's like an A+
4* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises (like most of Andrew Grey books and Davidson Kings 'Haven Hart'-series) it's like an A
3,5* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively! It's like an B+
3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader (2-3 times a year), it's like a B
2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-reader (I wouldn't recommend it heartily, but it was ok) It's like a C-, D
1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, illogical, so an absolute NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole line, dismissed, repeat the class
Well, l have just read my first ever shifter story. l am happy to say that l really enjoyed it.
l'm glad that the author gave a lot of back groung information about shifters, wolves , and wolf packs. She didn't just presume that the readers knew about alpha wolves, their senses and what to expect of a shifter.
l liked both the main characters Josh and Kurt, how Josh struggled greatly with acceptance of the scary events in his life. His awful homophobic parents and devoted grandfather, setting him on an unexpected path in his life. Meeting Kurt had affected him deeply , suddenly finding himself free, Josh wanted to know him closely.
Kurt was a true Alpha, strong and caring , and becoming attracted to Josh. Unexpected events, and constant danger around Josh ment that Kurt had to stay close by.
l really enjoyed the developing feelings between these two men, especially the parts when they were unable to resist one another. lt was a heart warming love story , that had some strange goings on.
I had read the second book in the series and liked it so much I came back and purchased the first book. So, yes, they can be read as stand-alones. Having met Kurt, the pack alpha and Josh, his mate in book two, it was really nice to read their backstory. Of course, if I'd read them in the correct order, I would've known their story before reading book two. Oh well, this was a great story about a human man being tossed from his family because he told them he was gay, retreating to his grandfather's cabin in the woods to figure out his future and what happens as he is bitten and transformed by a rogue wolf shifter into one himself and helped to adjust by the local pack alpha. Because the story feels so easy to believe, I want to say that Ms Leya sure did her research. Of course, it is fantasy, but the details and descriptions are so believable that I think maybe I need to go to Montana to visit this wolf pack!
Bitten. It was a solid read. I enjoyed the characters, the world was fleshed out, and it kept my attention through the whole thing. What more could you ask for? Oh, sexy times. It had those too!
I thought it was awful how Josh's parents treated him. Sorta-spoilers. Josh's parents just can't accept that he's gay. They'd rather disown their son than accept it. I can't understand that mentality. I know it's real life shit, but it's never okay. That's where stories like this are very important. There's a world full of people out there. You can find a family who loves you, and they don't have to be related to you.
Went on a little rant there, but it's important, and one of the things I appreciated about this book! Josh and Kurt are so sweet to each other. Josh found a much better place to be, a place where he's loved and accepted.
I know I'm gushing about the sweetness, but I swear there's plenty of steam too. You won't be disappointed!
I liked it, and will read the rest of the series, but there were some serious flaws
If the alpha can sense where every member of their pack is, at any given time, why was it difficult for Kurt to find Tyler through his two friends? Or had Tom and Keith severed their ties to the pack? And so, wouldn’t Kurt, as alpha, have felt that, and been concerned over them unexpectedly breaking the pack bond, especially being the conscientious alpha that he is?
Then there was Josh - I can understand some level of disbelief that the paranormal is real, but this got to be ridiculous. He saw Kurt shift multiple times and yet still blathered on about thinking it was all some sort of hoax. I lost a healthy dose of respect for his character the more he insisted that his own experiences were all a part of some elaborate ruse being played by Kurt and his grandfather.
2.5 stars even with all the grammatical errors & typos...
Not a bad story, and I really enjoyed the in-depth explanations and details about turned versus born shifters along with the revelation (and possibility!) that vampires and other paranormal creatures may roam around! That, and the compelling and HOT bedroom scenes between Josh and Kurt would have been better enjoyed had I not been stopping at one typo or error after another, wondering what the writer might have intended or meant. That was simply too distracting, and so detracted from the excitement of alpha challenges, kidnapping, and not-so-petty thievery when murder is the result, oh my!
This was pretty good. I got a little squeaked out when Josh's hunger and lust got mixed up together during his transition. I also could have done without the wolf sex too. I mean...have you seen 2 dogs humping? It's just not sexy. I'm laughing just thinking about it. Despite that, I would continue the series. I'm interested to see if we have more wolf pairings or if we are going to see other shifter pairings in the area, maybe some vampire/fae or other pairings as well. I'm looking forward to it.
Well written cute story. Josh is kicked out from being gay and he goes to the family cabin in the woods. One day he crosses paths with a wolf and gets bitten. The son of a family friend stops by to check in on him and he hears about and the shifter world is born.
This book is very much hurt/comfort and choose family themes.
Good book but not exceptional. I'll read the rest of the series.
This is the first book in the Terrin Pass Pack series. .
This book was surprisingly good I really liked that it wasn't instant sex instant love . I also liked the fact that Kurt made Josh learn how to control his wolf you don't see that often and when you do it's not as nicely as in this book . I was also wondering if there was more to Kurt's dad and Josh's grandad than just a great friendship and it that was why Josh's grandad had no problem with Josh being gay .
I liked the characters and Grandpa is the absolute best. I love how he handled things with Josh and the father from beginning to end. Josh and Kurt are good together but with all the preparation Josh needed kinda took away from animalistic passion for one another. Like I said, it was a pretty good story...
I loved how this story evolved. The author has a wonderful character base that easily mixed with the storyline. Kurt and Josh came from two separate back grounds, but that did not stop them from becoming more than just friends. This is a must read especially if you enjoy shifter romance.
I could have really gotten into this story if only it hadn't been told to me. Very telling with little emotional depth. Also there were long repetitive paragraphs of thought process that I had to slog through. Josh's ups and downs and back and forths were like whiplash to read. Additionally, the dialogue was stilted and long winded.
I don't know why i haven't read this series before now. I enjoyed this first book immensely, the dynamic of wolf packs and mates. I loved the dynamic between Kurt and Josh. The immediate attraction. The storyline was awesome, with suspense and drama thrown in. I'll certainly be looking forward to reading more.
J is kicked off his home ranch by his parents after they discover he’s gay but he grandpa saves the day by sending him to his old hunting cabin where is made into a werewolf and finds his mate
After a long time holding off, I finally took the dive into m/m shifter and have to say, I've been missing out. Absolutely loved this book, and cant wait to delve deeper into this pack and the whole shifter world
Love this book wow just wow been awhile since a read a great shifter book these two had feeling before the changed and afterward they found their way to a soulmate love.
I've enjoyed wolf shifter stories for a long time. This one is up there with the good ones. Plenty of love but not overly sappy. Just enough tension to stop things from getting too stale. Looking forward to reading the others in the series.
It is an easy to follow story. The plot is enough to keep you up. I especially enjoy the true romance between Josh and kurt. It is Sunday night love story
