Imperfect Love: The Run In

Becoming the new Marketing Manager at Tate and Cane was a game changer. I was hell bent on proving I deserved this job, and that it wasn’t my cousin Sterling Quinn who had helped me score the new job title. Him being one of the CEO’s best friend—didn’t help the rumors.

Well screw that.

Ten years of sweat and hard work was the reason I was sitting in a large corner office with a killer Manhattan view. More focused than I’d ever been, it was time to take the bull by the horns.

And God help the person who stood in in my way.

********
Things I left behind in Seattle, Washington: A promising career at a top marking firm, the past I was desperate to escape, and obviously my sense of direction. It was because of all of those reasons I was standing in the middle of New York City lost and cursing at my phone.

If I didn’t get to Tate and Cane soon, I wouldn’t only be late, but also blow the chance to make the good impression on my new boss, Mason Quinn. And I needed that more than anything.

One wrong turn, an unfortunate collision, and an expensive suit drenched in my soy chia tea latte was not how I wanted to start my first day.
Then there was the other little problem I had. The drop dead gorgeous man whose suit I’d ruined was my new boss.

And boy did he look pissed.

Imperfect Love Kindle World Novella Reviews at Of Pens and Pages.

The Run In is a slow burn, forbidden romance between Mason Quinn and Saylor Night.

Work will wait… Life won’t.”

There’s a lot of unresolved sexual tension between these two people with equally strong personalities. With the boss-employee thing going on and Mason’s reputation as a lady’s man, Saylor tries to stop herself from feelings things for him. She wants to settle down and have a family, and she doesn’t think Mason can give that to her. Mason has a similar predicament; he’s feeling things he’s never felt before, but his fear of commitment stops him from moving forward.

Because of their issues, there’s a lot of push and pull between them, and as I’ve said, UST abound.

I know some readers are particular about this, so I’ll add this in—there are almost other women drama involved. Because of that, I wasn’t Mason’s biggest fan (read: I wanted to throat punch him multiple times).

Tropes: Boss-Employee, Forbidden Romance
POV: Dual, First POV

If you want to read a romance novel this isn't your book. The run in isn't a love story. It's the story of two people who met when Saylor spilled her beverage on Mason on her first day at work and happened to be attracted to each other. When Saylor and me, kept doubting Mason at almost the 90% mark I wouldn't call this a love story. Mason proved that he couldn't keep it in his pants and he almost had sex with two women other than Saylor. One time he had invited her to a friend's house and he left her to be with the other woman. The second time, after Saylor tried to force some boundaries on their relationship he went to sleep with one of Sterling's girls (before he settled down). Is Mason the kind of hero I want? No. I don't feel like this book deserves to be in the same world as the Hitched series. I am very disappointed. I needed to see Saylor having some backbone and trying to find someone/thing better than Mason and what he was offering her. Almost all the book is a cold and hot shower between them. The author decided to give more time and focus on the fighting and jealousy part of the story rather than developing her characters and writing a good story. Right now, I don't think I will read another book by this author ever again.

2020 update: So, I gave 2 more chances to the author and both of them ended up getting 1 starred. Kelly Elliot and I are not compatible

“First you spill your hot coffee on me.” Turning my body to face him, I said, “Tea. It was tea. I don’t drink coffee.” He smiled slightly. “Whatever the fuck it was, it was hot.” I grinned, and his brows drew together. “Then you called me an asshat, threatened to knee my balls, and now you’re calling me a jerk?” With a tilt of my head, I let my eyes roam slowly over his body before looking back into those dreamy has fuck eyes.
“I do believe I called you an asshole first, then asshat, then came jerk.” With a shrug, I added, “If the shoe fits.”

THE RUN IN is another sexy and steamy novella in the Imperfect Love series. It also brings us back to Tate and Cane but this time with a run in full of heat and banter and a lust after the forbidden.

Title: The Run-In
Author: Kelly Elliott

4 unexpected stars

While it's the first time that i've read a novel by Kelly Elliott, i'm brought back to Tate & Cane with Saylor and Mason's story. Like the others, it was a quick read that forced me to remember the other books to know who was who as we got to know more about these two. They were captivating and i truly enjoyed watching them try to draw a line between being coworkers, friends and something more. For a novella, it was well developed and was almost disappointed when the book ended. I can't wait to read more from Kelly Elliott in the future, especially after my taste from The Run-In.

A slow burn office romace novella.

Great characters,

The plot:
Saylor has switched towns and downsized in her job wanting to escape her ex and also to experience life no longer wanting the demanding hours.

Mason is hot, handsome The boss in the advertising company were Saylor is due to start work.

Saylor first day at work doesn't quite go to plan when in a rush she spills tea all over an A hole of a guy in an expensive suit.

After a heated exchange Saylor makes it into work only to discover said A hole is her new boss.

Not an original story but I loved Saylor's calm and sassy character, her ability to hold her own in all situations especially with men.

There's chemistry and a pull towards each other. Professionalism prevents Saylor letting anything develop, well that and Masons reputation with the ladies and Mason he fights his urges due to his fear of settling down, he knows Saylor is different.

In summary an enjoyable read with a scene of hotness thrown in and told in dual pov's.

*sidenote: A few errors spotted, one being tea spilled all over Mason and later it was Latte.

I read an arc copy for review and these things are normally corrected before print and does not effect my rating.

“one true love only comes along once.”

I want The Run-in to be a full length book!!! It was amazing!!! I couldn’t put it down!!! It ended too quickly!!!!
I fell in love straightaway with Mason and Saylor!! They are the perfect match and I found myself laughing out loud and speaking out loud!! I was so desperate for them to get together so, every time they were facing an obstacle, I was getting frustrated!!
Saylor left her life as a CEO behind and moved to NYC for a fresh start. She has one rule- no man and no falling in love.
“That no matter what I wanted to do in life, I could do it and no one, especially a man, would be able to tell me I couldn’t.”

When Saylor realises that her new boss is the hot arrogant jerk that she met in the street, she knows that she is going to struggle. Why? Because she swore that she won’t get involved with anyone, even less her boss… but how can you resist Mason. He is everything you look for in an alpha- He is jealous, protective, arrogant, sexy, hot and a bit of a jerk.

““I’ve worked too long and hard to get where I am to give it up for some woman.”

You can feel their attraction and the sexual tension between them is off the charts. The question is , who is going to yield into temptation first?

“I’m attracted to her, and I know I can’t have her. That’s all this is.”

Rom-com full of lust!! This novella has delivered!!

The Run In by Kelly Elliott is part of Kendall Ryan's Imperfect Love World Series.
I liked the storyline; it was a fun office romance. Saylor, she was clever, with a great attitude. Mason took a little longer to warm up too, but this changed when I could see how he felt about Saylor and the persona behind the businessman. Saylor and Mason were good together in and out of the office. I like the banner they shared and loved that Saylor didn’t take any crap from Mason.

A cute, quick sexy read, by and author whose books I will push up my TBR list.

Once I started reading The Run In, I was instantly HOOKED. Kelly has become one of my new favorite authors! I live how her stories aren't over the top. They are relatable and they give you a sense of a fresh breath.

Once I finished The Run In, I messaged Kelly right away! The Run In killed me (in a good way)! It was soo good! I didn't want it to end. The slow burn in this book was real y'all but so dang good!

Saylor's character was so fierce and sassy! She knew what she wanted and didn't let anything stand in her way of getting what she wanted. She was an independent and determined woman!

The ending of The Run In had me begging for more! I felt like this definitely could of been a full length novel.

I've only read 3 books out of the Imperfect Love World and I'm dying for more already! I aso did notice that Sterling sure does have a lot of cousins lol!

This one is a short quick read. It's really a great read. I loved Saylor and Mason. I was hooked right from the beginning. They way the first meet is absolutely funny. Saylor is a strong character. She's smart and sassy. Mason is her new boss. He's sexy and cocky. They have chemistry but Saylor wants to keep it strictly business. Mason has some really jerky moments. The story slowly builds and I kept thinking when are they going to hook up. I could definitely read more of these two.

Short and sexy...this book was fun to read.
I loved Saylor and her attitude. She was smart, intelligent and feisty. He first meeting with Mason was super funny and I knew this was gonna be interesting read. The slow build-up, the push and pull along with the office setup made this book hard to put down.
I liked Mason and his office persona - he's smart, ruthless yet caring towards his employees. Saylor and Mason were really hot and sexy together.
Highly recommend.

SAM'S REVIEW
4 STARS

For all new readers of Kelly Elliott, this brand new Novella 'The Run In' in my opinion is the perfect way to get a taste for the talented authors addictive writing, those cocky, hotter than hell hero's and those gorgeous, sassy heroines.

From Mason and Saylor's first meet... which includes one steaming hot drink, a whole lot of attitude and an awkward following scene, I was laughing so hard and super excited to climb into the rest of this fictional creation.
I loved the banter between both characters and the tension which continuously built throughout the entire short read, making this Novella one helluva slow-burn. The chemistry and connection between Mason and Saylor was both fun and at times incredibly hot.

I really connected to Saylor and loved the way she had been written. I admired her independence, her passion and drive.
At times, Mason seriously deserved a punch to the throat. But it didn't stop me feeling something for his character. I laughed at his thoughts, and for any reader who loves a male hero with a really naughty mouth, well, Mason is your guy!

I don't want to spoil the Novella, but can honestly tell any reader who likes a slow-burn read, or Office romance, this book is definitely for you. I devoured the book super fast and look forward to reading all other additions to the Imperfect Love World.

~ 4 Stars ~

The Run In is a standalone novella written by Kelly Elliott for Kendall Ryan's Imperfect Love World.

I enjoyed this story but it also frustrated me to no end!! This to me was not a normal Kelly Elliott story. Now that isn't all bad but what I didn't like about it was that I had a hard time connecting to the Hero. He wasn't like her normal Heroes and I wanted to junk punch him on many occasions.

I loved the forbidden storyline of Boss/Employee office romance. But I think this story had way to much angst and sexual tension for my liking. It made the ending a little too hard to believe...in my opinion. I also didn't like Mason's behavior for most of the story. I have to say I think Saylor (the heroine) truly saved this book for me. I loved her character. She was strong, independent and sassy!! She knew how to stand up for herself and put her Boss in his place.

I also loved that the majority of this story takes place at Tate & Cane. Since both Mason and Saylor work for that company. It was great to see Olivia Tate (Noah's wife from Hitched series) in this story. With that being said, the Hitched series or The Fix Up do not have to be read to enjoy this story. You'll just understand who these other characters are that are mentioned in the story if you have already read the other books.

I would recommend this book for anyone who loves a good forbidden office romance story that is filled with sexual tension and angst.

The Run In by Kelly Elliott was an enjoyable read that I did like. I wish I had loved it but overall it was a good read but at times felt it dragged a bit and it is a novella so that should not be the case. I liked the idea of the first time Mason and Saylor interact was literally when they ran into each other and neither knew who the other was until they come face to face at work. I liked that angle a lot, but more than once I got bored and just wanted things to speed up a bit.

Mason is hot and sexy and yes at times can be a massive jackass but Saylor is no saint either. She can be moody and bitchy just as much as Mason can. While I could see a connection and the chemistry between these two it almost felt forced at times. That combined with how slow I felt it was going just didn’t have me loving it like I had hoped but again I must say I did like it. I do still recommend reading The Run In, maybe you will like it more than I did.

3.5 stars I voluntarily accepted an advanced reader copy of this book.

Lol these two met in the worse way; when Saylor spilled her tea on Mason while on her way to her first day at her new job. She insulted him and gave him piece of her mind and couple minutes later surprise surprise he's her new boss.

It started good but then I couldn't handle Mason attitude and how he quickly jumped to conclusion and acted very immature. Saylor I did like; she had no time for bs and gave Mason piece of her mind not caring that he's her boss.

When he finally got his act together which was a little late he was a better person. I liked their ending I just wish it was a bit quicker.

Kelly Elliott knows how to stir up trouble. Mason is no Prince Charming. He's arrogant, rude and frustrating as ****, but he can light a fire as quickly as he can douse the flame. Saylor is like a lamb to the slaughter. She's smart as a whip, but allows her insecurities to dictate her actions. He's the boss. She's the newbie, but they share a determination to make their mark. Mason is an acquired taste. He's hard to like, but undeniably unforgettable.

I was pulled right into this short story. The story has laughs, and heartbreak.

This is Saylor and Mason’s story. Saylor is on the way to her job but having no luck as she lost her phone and if she does not hurry she will be late. When she runs into someone and ruins there suit she is freaking out as it’s her new boss and he is not happy. The chemistry is hot with these two but will past hurts end up keeping them from trying a relationship?

I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.

I highly recommend this book.

I thought The Run In by Kelly Elliott was a great addition and complimented the Imperfect Love World. The story didn’t read like a novella to me. It was well rounded and fleshed out like a full-length novel. There was no rush to a HEA and I really appreciated that.

We start the novella from Saylor’s point of view- love the heroine’s name btw. She’s moved, well, more like escaped, to NYC from Chicago and has taken a position at Tate and Cane. I really liked her character. She was smart, strong, and took nothing off anyone… Even her boss.

“The one golden rule for women in this business was not to let a man make her feel less than he was. No matter how much higher up the ladder he was.”

Mason Quinn, said boss, was your typical suit and avoided romantic relationships like one would the clap. He was the man every woman wanted and every man wanted to be. Rich, successful, and good-looking with a slight English accent. He had his life all figured out until he ran into a little blond woman in the lobby of the building he worked in… literally. Chai tea latte everywhere.

“Could someone be beyond good looking? Handsome wasn’t the right word; he was beyond that too. His warm honey eyes were staring into my hazel, and for a moment, it looked like he was just as stunned as I was.”

I really felt the chemistry between these two- the push and pull of their attraction was palpable. I liked the build up of their relationship and that they didn’t immediately jump into bed together. The anticipation was definitely worth it. Overall, I thought it was excellent.

“From the moment you ran into me, I haven’t been able to think straight! You’re driving me insane, Saylor.”

“No, Saylor. This is love.”

I give this novella 5 Chai tea latte stars!

Mason Quinn and Saylor Night literally ran into each other during their first interaction and the result of that run in was some choice words from both of them and a first impression that left a lot to be desired. And wouldn’t you figure that the person Saylor ended up reaming out would be her new boss, so now she not only had to prove herself in her new job, but she also had to learn to keep her mouth in check in order to show Mason that she’s one heck of a research analyst even if she’s also a smart ass!

I have to admit that Mason’s antics pissed me off throughout much of the story. I completely understand his business drive and his need to focus on his career, leaving no room for any type of relationship other than a string of one night stands, but the steps he takes to prove to himself and to Saylor that she doesn’t affect him as much as she actually does did not sit well with me.

Saylor is just as career minded as Mason, but she didn’t play the kind of games that he did, so I struggled to understand why she invested her heart into building something with Mason that didn’t truly seem worth the risk.

Kelly Elliott does a good job illustrating the undeniable attraction between Saylor and Mason even when they’re both struggling to remain focused on their respective jobs and I will say that Mason does attempt to make up for his less than stellar actions; I just wish it would have happened a bit sooner in the story line because the length of the story didn’t provide me with enough time to see past my disdain for Mason’s earlier actions.

Kelly has always been a must read whenever she has something new come out. And this novella was amazing! I literally couldn't put it down. This one was hilarious and fiery work romance.

Saylor recently moved to New York City to start a new job as a marketing research analyst. She is feisty and worked hard at her job. She left her old job and home in Seattle because her ex-boyfriend couldn't grasp they weren't together anymore.

Mason is in charge of research at Tate and Cane. He had come from Chicago for the job recently. He is very arrogant and quite mouthy. He gets what he wants, most of the time.

Saylor is lost trying to find her new place of employment. While following the directions her friend gave her, she runs into a man and spills her hot tea all over him. The man was very mad and started spouting off about it. When she finally makes her to Tate and Cane, she discovers the man is her new boss, Mason. Fearing that she may quit, Mason asks for a do-over. Saylor has been given her first job and she starts with such fire, but soon discovers Mason is hard to work for.

Will Mason and Saylor be able to work together? Can Mason control his mouth at work? Does Saylor stay at Tate and Cane?

This novella was hilarious with the funny and quite foul mouthed Mason. Saylor provided a balance to the story. This is a definite must read if you are looking for a office romance and a quick read.

The Run In is part of the IMPERFECT LOVE Kindle World . In partnership with Kendall Ryan & these amazing bestselling authors: Kelly Elliott, Adriana Locke, Mandi Beck, T. Gephart, Kim Karr, Cora Kenborn, Magan Vernon & Natasha Madison. Sexy, laugh-out-loud funny, and sweet at times, this series is all about exploring romance tropes like friends to lovers, fake fiancé, arranged marriage, surprise pregnancy, budding office romances, and more, that all share one fabulous thing in common–they end in a happily ever after.

A perfectly crafted tail of cat and mouse. Chemistry fuelled by desire, I didn't even realise that I hadn't read a single sex scene until the end pages, scorching!!!

The Run In by Kelly Elliott
“Office Romance, 3 stars”

Mason and Saylor are the couple in this fast pace novella. The story starts with Saylor running into Mason and spilling her hot tea all over him. Only to discover he’s her new boss. They have the kind of chemistry that you can’t tell if they hate or love each other and its easy to get sucked in. Mason and Saylor feed off of each other in the work place and really are better at their jobs when they work together. Both fight the attraction, but you and I both know how well that works out. But what happens when they cave? Will they come out on the other side happy or will it all fall apart?
First off, I love Kelly Elliott, but I’m not a fan of novellas. The Run In is the perfect example as to why I don’t care for them. It’s not that it’s a bad story, I rather enjoyed it. But I wasn’t satisfied at the end of the book, I wanted more. Yes, I got what I wanted in the end but it felt so rushed that I didn’t get to enjoy it. If this was a full-length story I would probably rate it a 5 star instead of a 3 star.
Plot- 5/5

I adored Kendall Ryan's Imperfect World and they made my top read list so I was freaking stoked to see a novella kindle world was coming with a star studded cast... and everyone single one of these ladies delivered.

Sexy. Sweet. Fun. Easy. Each book in this series offers something a little different and unique, taking already done plots and making them kick ass in their own unique way. And honestly, I was hooked from the first one.

Alpha makes that make you swoon... and fall fast.
Get ready ladies and hold onto your panties.

In The Run In by Kelly Elliott, Saylor and Mason gives us an unforgettable romance with tons of laughs, smiles, and all the swoons. From their disastrous meeting to.... well you need to read to find out but I promise Kelly writes all of the best words that are epic. Get ready for loads of steam and a deserving happy ending.

Kelly Elliott is always a go to author for me with many rereads under my belt but this book and these words... crazy special.

I highly recommend this book and series.
