The prodigal Cahill is back—and ready to confess
Tucker Cahill disappeared from Gilt Edge, Montana, hoping to escape a secret that has haunted him for nineteen years. Then, when a young woman’s remains are found in the creek near his family’s ranch, he has no choice but to face his demons. The truth that sent him running years ago could take away his freedom now.
Kate Rothschild came to town looking for vengeance—and Tucker Cahill. What she finds is a tortured and irresistible man who’s more than meets the eye. Caught up in the past, they are drawn deeper into a twisted game that’s not over yet. And the consequences could prove fatal for them both…
B.J. Daniels started her life in Houston, Texas, before her family moved to Montana at age five. She grew up in a cabin in the Gallatin Canyon near Big Sky and later on Hebgen Lake near West Yellowstone. Because of her love for Montana, most of her books are set there. Born into a storytelling family, all she'd ever wanted to do was write stories. After a career as an award-winning newspaper journalist, she wrote and sold 37 short stories before she finally wrote her first book, ODD MAN OUT. Since then she has won numerous awards including a career achievement award for romantic suspense. She lives in Montana with her husband, Parker, two Springer Spaniels. When she isn't writing, she quilts, boats and. makes rope/fabric baskets. She always reads, loving to lose herself in a good book.
“We’re a team, right?” She couldn’t help but smile. “That’s us, one of the great detective couples. Like Nick and Nora.” He mugged a face. “More like Bonnie and Clyde.”
I swear, when it comes to women, Tucker doesn’t have the good sense of a rock.
My Review:
This book was 90% mystery/suspense and 10% slow building romance as the couple didn’t lock lips until 60% into the book and only indulged in one sizzling sensual encounter of knocking the boots at 80%. So my elderly mother could very well read this one if she knew where to “skip the naughty bit,” and wouldn’t require much use of her trusty sharpie to censor out much “language.” Sigh… We rarely read the same books but she would enjoy the several confounding and complicated mysteries involving several murders over nineteen years, family drama, disappearances, extortion, kidnapping, lust, betrayal, and paternity issues. I took note that the one mystery that I had assumed would be the easiest to crack was only partially resolved by the conclusion of the tale. Oh what an intricate plot this scribe has penned. While I didn’t care for the main character of Kate for the longest time as she was playing games and being manipulative, and her actions had been cruel and thoughtless, I adored the engaging Cahills and their knotty family tree of complex issues and personalities. B. J. Daniels has been a recent find and while I may be a city dweller, I do enjoy her small-town tales and well-seasoned cowboys for a chance of pace.

The prodigal Cahill is back—and ready to confess, but I just have a feeling that there is going to be someone who really, really doesn't like that idea. I've always liked a good prodigal returns tale, but this plot was thin and made of swiss cheese.
Tucker Cahill disappeared from Gilt Edge, Montana, right after graduating from high school nineteen years ago. His family hasn't heard from him since, and they didn't really understand why he left. Now a young woman’s remains have been found in the creek bed near his family’s ranch and Tuck has returned. He is back to face what happened on that awful night nineteen years ago, but he isn't the only one who has come to Guilt Edge who has an has an interest in those old bones.
Kate Rothschild has come to Guilt Edge looking for answers and hoping for vengeance. Her brother committed suicide and she thinks that Tucker Cahill may be part of the reason why. But Tucker is a lot more than she expected and Kate finds herself drawn to him and the tortured secrets that surround him. As the mystery of the bones is slowly uncovered, someone is not willing to let the secrets be revealed and murder is most definitely an option to keep these secrets buried.
I am a huge fan of romantic suspense. Especially when there’s a page turning mystery involved. Few authors can bring these elements together as well as BJ Daniels. For me, she’s right up there with Sandra Brown, Delores Fossen, and Linda Lael Miller. Like these authors, Ms. Daniels is a sheer genius at flawlessly weaving romance and suspense into a fabulous whodunit that has me anxiously turning the pages and second guessing every character that comes into play. Tucker and Kate pulled me right into their story and had me biting my nails with every page. Who doesn’t love a tormented hero returning to his small home town to face his past, hunt down or be hunted down by a ruthless killer, all while working with and trying to protect the love of his life. I was so torn between wanting them to walk away from the danger and wanting them keep going to uncover the truth. They were no longer the innocents they’d been 19 years ago and were ready to face down the person or people who had destroyed their lives. Tucker was protective and sensitive but tough. Kate was strong willed, smart, and fearless. They made the perfect team in solving this decades old crime. This third book in the Cahill series does not disappoint. Jam packed with suspense, twists and turns, red herrings, and potent sexual tension, you won’t be able to put down this fast paced story of old secrets, betrayal, and murder. Readers who love a good mystery but also love a hot, steamy romance will find Hero’s Return hard to put down.
I love the Cahills series! Each book features one of the Cahills where you learn more about this family. There's always suspense with a healthy dose of romance.
This is an enthralling romantic suspense, one where the focus is possibly more on the suspense than the romance, though both have significant roles to play in the story. Whilst it is the fifth book in a series, I believe it works well as a standalone.
When he was seventeen, Tucker Cahill left his home and family and hasn’t been home or in contact with any of them since then, which is more than eighteen years ago . When the body of a young woman turns up near a creek by his family’s ranch the publicity means he hears about it and returns home, stopping first at the local Sheriff’s office to suggest who the body might be.
When he goes out to near where the body was discovered, someone else is looking at the scene and runs when she spots him. She is Kate Rothschild, an investigative journalist with a personal interest in the remains, an interest she’s determined to follow up on. As these two connect, there’s mutual attraction between them but also so many secrets! As they endeavour to discover just who the body was and what happened to her they’ll face the past and uncover more secrets in the process as well as being placed in potentially deadly situations.
This plot is so full of twists and turns, the reader is never quite sure what will be revealed next! It keeps you figuratively on the edge of your seat and there’s never a dull moment. Secrets of other characters are also revealed, babies are born and families reunited, making this a highly entertaining read and great addition to the series.
I requested and received a copy of this novel via NetGalley. This is my honest review after choosing to read it.
2.5 stars Hero's Return is the fifth book in the Cahill Ranch series. In this one the missing brother, Tucker, has finally come bask to town after almost twenty years. The skeleton of a woman has been found in the creek and Tucker may have the answer to the identity of the woman.
The book was an OK read for me. I think I had the same issues as I did with the other two from the series that I have read. After this third book,I can see that this author's books just aren't my cup of tea. The mystery was kind of interesting but I just wasn't sucked in right away. I was a bit disappointed at the reason for Tucker being gone for so long. His reasons for running away were a bit underwhelming and could have been solved if he had stuck around and talked to the police. I also thought his family kind of took him back a bit too quickly.
This one is more of a mystery as the romance isn't the dominate part of the book. In the end, I didn't like the romance aspect and felt it was kind of forced. I didn't feel the chemistry between the couple. I think if you go into the book expecting more of a police procedural, then you'll like it more.
Ms. Daniels does it again. She brings a god story with good characters. Tucker and Kate were personable and engaging. Although, I must admit that the chemistry between them was a bit lackluster. This is one of those times where the actually mystery surrounding Tucker and his past took center stage. The romance was more on the back burner. In fact, there was hardly any action between these two until the last third of the story. Although, I was a little disappointed in the lack of romance, it was the mystery that I was really into regarding this book.
There were some twists that I actually did not see coming. Well done twists that kept the story intriguing. The more that the secrets were revealed, the more that I felt closer to Kate and Tucker. Speaking of Tucker; he is a gentle soul. A guy that women would love to meet and have. Kate showed that she was strong and intelligent. They balanced each other out nicely. You can't really go wrong with a B.J. Daniels novel. This is a quickie read.
Great book that crosses a few romance related genres.: romance, suspense, mystery...BJ Daniels is a master crafter and I love her books. This is an author who knows how to write a great cowboy romance and I would totally recommend Hero's Return to any reader.~
If you enjoy romantic suspense and the blurb intrigued you, don’t hesitate for a moment to pick up HERO’S RETURN because it is sensational!
It had started like any other day for Sheriff Flint Cahill, until human skeletal remains were discovered nearby and a package was delivered at the ranch for his brother Tucker, who had not set foot in town for nineteen years. Until that very day. News of the gruesome discovery had reached Tucker, and he could not stay away because he had never forgotten the last time he’d seen Madeline, and he suspected the remains were hers. Tucker is not the only one who needs to know about Madeline, and that’s the reason investigative reporter Kate Rothschild is also in Gilt Edge…
B.J. Daniels does not waste a minute, and from the very first page, the intrigue is firmly established, and the suspense doesn’t let up until the end. HERO’S RETURN is that sort of book that leaves you quite unhappy when life dares interfere. It’s obvious that HERO’S RETURN is not the first book in the series, yet Tucker’s return makes it easy for newcomers to feel right at home as he reconnects with his family. I never had the impression I had missed anything, and the fact that the characters are so brilliantly written also helps a lot. The secondary characters are crafted with as much care as the principals. Ms. Daniels’ stunningly vivid descriptions convey everything we need to know, concisely yet thoroughly.
I was agreeably surprised at how suspenseful HERO’S RETURN is! There are two suspense stories: the major one, and a minor one, and both are as compelling; even the lovely second romance contains a dash of mystery. The pace is steady. the writing is efficient, and smooth, and at times startlingly literate. It’s not often that I mentally ooh and aah over the prose in a contemporary romance; the dialogues also sound genuine, and the author possesses a unique ability to create a sometimes rather eerie atmosphere, which contrasts sharply with the sparkling and pristine Montana spring. There is a bit of an Hitchcockian vibe there, save for the wonderful Kate who, while needing someone to make sure she doesn’t do anything too hasty, doesn’t need rescuing. She is on a mission, but she knows what she’s doing; besides her recklessness comes with her job description.
Kate and Tucker appraise each other admiringly at first glance, but there’s a wariness to their interactions, and initially there’s a bit of distrust because Tucker feels that Kate has a hidden agenda, which when disclosed, was only one of the many startling revelations that were to come. And this is where Ms. Daniels shines brighter than the stars: the author omits purposefully, and ever so subtly, minute details that leave you begging to know more; HERO’S RETURN is very meticulously structured, each reveal making the suspense more gripping.
The romance develops slowly; Kate and Tucker are both sensible people and are not rushing into anything for well-founded reasons. Tucker is very poised in spite of his guilt, shame and inner turmoil; he is the kind of hero I look for in romances. His conversations with Kate are so very cleverly written and sound so real that, in one instance his reaction to an outburst from Kate caught me so off-guard, I laughed out loud. I found a twist in the romance a trifle convenient, however it fit the timeline, did not get in the way of the suspense, and I don’t think I have ever appreciated so much that the sex took place behind close doors: I didn’t miss a thing, there were no endless pages of sexy filler, which left plenty of room for the story as such. The ending is exciting, holds quite a few unexpected twists, and every little loose end is neatly wrapped up; HERO’S RETURN is excellent!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
He’d never doubted he would return – he just hadn’t expected it to take nineteen years.
No one writes western romantic suspense like B.J. Daniels. She proves it once again with Hero’s Return, the latest installment in her Montana Cahills’ series chronicling Tucker Cahill’s return home after going AWOL nineteen years ago when he was seventeen. No one has heard from or of him since - until human skeletal remains of a young woman are unearthed aside a creek near his family’s ranch. Tucker hears the news and returns home to face the music. He stops first at the Sheriff’s office to fill his brother in on what transpired almost two decades before when he last saw Madeline. Tucker believes that its Madeline’s bones which have been found. He then goes out to where the bones were discovered and finds someone else looking at the scene. She runs when she spots him. A chase ensues….
Hero’s Return is the fifth book in the series if you count the digital novella, Cowboy’s Reckoning, published earlier this year. That said, it absolutely works well as a standalone read, if that is your preference.
The story primarily features two brilliantly written characters, Tucker and Kate. Kate is an investigative reporter who is also in Gilt Edge due to Madeline. I liked them both though I was torn between wishing them to uncover the truth while wanting them to stay safe and leave the sleuthing to the Sheriff. Truly, I envisioned shaking shake Kate a few times as she wouldn’t stop doggedly pursuing the truth about the old crime even as she placed them both in deadly situations. Tucker’s protectiveness was clearly evident as, despite his misgivings, he insisted on accompanying Kate in these endeavors. Please know that while readers are aware that the hero and heroine are having sex, the action is behind closed doors.
The Gilt Edge, Montana setting is the perfect backdrop. Fans of the series will enjoy catching up with previous favorite characters that all make appearances. Oh my! There’s been a lot going on behind the scenes in Gilt Edge! In addition, there’s an interwoven developing secondary mystery with another lovely romance.
Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from Hero’s Return:
If whoever had been working with her thought they could blackmail him… He hoped they would try. He wasn’t that teenager they’d tricked all those years ago. This cowboy was more than ready for them now. --- “Anyway,” he said, his gaze lifting to hers. “We’re a team, right?” She couldn’t help but smile. “That’s us, one of the great detective couples. Like Nick and Nora.” He mugged a face. “More like Bonnie and Clyde.” “Emma Peel and John Steed.” Tucker laughed. “Shaggy and Scooby Doo.” --- He breathed in the mesmerizing scent, knowing that if he touched her, if he turned her to face him, if he looked into those bottomless green eyes, he would be lost forever.
Hero’s Return is a page-turning suspenseful whodunit teeming with betrayals, twists and turns and sexual tension with a dash of humor. The intricate plot grabs you from the very first page and doesn’t loosen its grip until the last. The pacing is perfect, the writing is genius and the ending is thrilling. I can’t wait to return to Gilt Edge with B.J. as two Cahill brothers remain unattached. If you enjoy western romantic suspense, I highly recommend that you pick up Hero’s Return!
This series just keeps on getting better and better, and Hero's Return is my favorite so far. I'm a fan of romantic suspense and Ms. Daniels added quite a murder mystery to the mix with this novel, with the return of the prodigal Cahill son, Tucker, and it gets 4.5 stars from this reader.
Where do I even begin to describe this novel without giving any spoilers? Well, here goes. Tucker Cahill, a 17-year old high school senior disappeared from the Cahill Ranch one night and no one has heard from him since or has a clue as to his whereabouts. Nineteen years later, shortly after the bones of a young woman are found, buried under leaves and twigs alongside the creek, he walks into his brother Flint's office at the police station in Gilt Edge, Montana, to confess to her murder. How's that for starters?
Did he kill her or didn't he? At first glance, it appears that the woman drowned, but the cause of death is about to change, and Ms. Daniels weaves an enthralling mystery as to the woman's identity, how she died, why she was where they found her, who she really is, why Tucker blames himself for her death, and why he left town for almost two decades. Into this intricately plotted mystery add a new character, Kate Rothschild, award-winning investigative reporter, and the daughter of a Washington senator, who has her own reasons for wanting to know how this young woman was killed, who killed her, and why. Then add Tucker's attraction to Kate, and, oh, by the way, there are even more subplots to come, and they keep on coming, drawing the reader deeper and deeper into this web of lies, mistaken identities, murder, suicide, attempts to frame Tucker, and just when you think this whodunit has been solved, think again, because the plot twists make this novel virtually impossible to put down.
There was only one thing that was a bit of a miss for me, and that was the romance part of this romantic suspense novel. Although Kate and Tucker are engaging characters and attracted to one another, there's not much of a romance to be found here, and there's little chance for it to occur as these two characters are hot on the trail in search of the truth about what happened 19 years ago. Aside from that small issue, I absolutely and thoroughly enjoyed this novel, stayed up until the wee hours of the morning to finish it, and I highly recommend it.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.
Those of us who read the first books in the Cahill Ranch Series knew that eventually Tucker Cahill would return. We didn’t know why he left, where he was or what he was doing. The title of the book sort of leads us to believe that Tucker is coming back and the prologue gives us just enough of a glimpse of his past that the book becomes one you cannot put down.
Hooray for BJ Daniels’ ability to spin a perfect story with a twist and a turn every step of the way. I agree with another reviewer that the romance in this book definitely took a back seat to the plot(s). With every books she writes, BJ gives us a bit of ‘true’ history that for a reader like me –send me scurrying to the internet for more and more information. Daniels would the perfect history teacher – tossing out bread crumbs for students to follow.
You know how sometimes you want to slap the hero or heroine upside the head for being so stupid? I have never had that urge with Daniels’ books and this is no exception. Kath Rothschild comes to town looking for vengeance and for Tucker Cahill. When she meets him, she now realizes that there are so many facets to the story of what drove her brother to his death. She teams up with Tucker, but never completely trusts him until the story unfolds, layer by layer like a piece of origami that started out as one thing and as it’s unfolded becomes something else.
There’s enough mystery and danger to fulfill my mind’s eye of what a good story is. Toss in that little edge of romance and history with all the back stories and some twists and turns and you get an excellent read.
I was given an ARC of this book in return for my review. All the opinions are mine and mine alone. I would and have suggested this book and this series to several friends looking for some good reads.
I loved this story! The Cahills are among my favorite fictional families! I've been waiting for Tucker's story because in the previous books in this series, he is mentioned in all of them but isn't present because he left the family & the town 19 years previous and we have no idea why! Way to whet our appetite, B.J.!!!! The first chapter drew me in immediately and I was swept away into a fantastic fictional suspense! Nobody does it better that B. J. Daniels in my opinion! She knows how to weave various story lines and various characters without it seeming to overwhelm the reader.
The story was another page-turner for me....I read it in two days. I could hardly put it down! There were so many twists and turns in this one, it was hard to stop reading once I started. The romance wasn't as "front and center" this time but that was ok with me. I love a good suspense! I also enjoyed having Tucker's family pop in and out of the book. It was great seeing what they were up to. Tucker is involved with the skeletal remains that are found in town which is what brings him back after 19 years. It also brings Kate Rothschild to town and you'll just have to read the book to see what her connection is to the remains! It makes for a great story and an even greater mystery!
I definitely recommend it and can't wait for the next book already! These Cahills are a wonderful family!
Let's start with my rating, a solid 4 out of 5 stars. I'm only knocking it down because Kate's revenge and her lack of a plan kind of annoyed me. Tucker had the most right to be outraged and he was level headed and calm about the entire thing.
Anyways.
The book starts off giving us a tragic beginning of a young woman, presumably holding a baby, jumps off a bridge and that's it. Fast forward several years later and a woman's bones are discovered in a river bank, which spurs Tucker to face his past and deal with the consequences. The young woman was his girlfriend, with their baby, or so he thinks. Turns out the young woman is one of three identical sisters so Tucker, and Kate (who lost her brother because of the same young woman) don't really understand WHAT happened long ago. Was it scam? Was it legitimate? Which sister died that night? Where are the others? Can either Tucker or Kate move on, even if they never get the answers, or even if they do?
Overall? It's a good book. I had no problem flying through this one because unlike the rest of the series, this one feels more like romantic suspense. We've got murder, unexplained deaths, scams, backstabbing friends, and Montana politics at play here. I had a good time reading this book and even though Kate's character was a little shaky for me, I liked her and Tucker as a pairing. She keeps him on his toes and he calms her down a notch. If you are a fan of romantic suspense, you're going to enjoy this one!
Tucker Cahill is finally home after over 19 years away. Leaving home after high school he is final lyready to return and face whatever may happen. Bones were found in the creek and he is pretty sure he knows who’s they are. When he arrives there is a package waiting for him…and a woman. Yes, Kate Rothschild wants answers to questions related to her brother’s suicide that happened about the time Tucker left home and she believes Tucker might have them. The two have a mystery and murder to solve and they work together to find the truth. The solution is not easy, friends may not be friends after all, what happened 19 years ago is a whole lot more than Tucker and Kate realized and the end might not be pretty.
This had some evil twisted characters that were more than balanced by the Cahill family and their unwavering support of one another. There was a side story that may show up later in another book – I hope – because I would like to find out just who Billie Dee’s daughter is ;)
I came into this series on this book and had no trouble following the story. The Cahill brood seems a nice group so reading the other books that came before this one would prove no hardship.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Romance for the ARC – This is my honest review.
When Tucker Cahill learns that a young woman’s bones have been found near a creekbank, he returns to Gilt Edge, Montana after nineteen years. The coroner tells Sheriff Flint Cahill the bones appear to be from a 20-year-old woman. Tuck tells Flint about why he left and Flint tells him the woman known as Madeline Ross was pulling a scam on Tuck. Kate Rothschild is in town following the lead on Madeline. Her brother had been a victim of her scam too and had killed himself. They learn that Madeline’s last name was Dunn and no one in the small town she had lived in wants to talk about the Dunn’s. Kate is out for revenge and Tuck is not letting her go by herself.
Tuck is still fascinated with Madeline, the woman who was his first. As Kate falls in love with Tuck, she wonders if he will ever get over Madeline. But Madeline is playing with Tuck as messages are left on his truck reeking of the scent she wore. The coroner determined the body found had not been pregnant nor had given birth so Tuck knows he was taken in by her lies.
He and Kate track down K.O., Madeline's brother, and meet Melody. He tells them Misty had the broken leg not Madeline. So if Melody was here and the bones belonged to Misty, that meant that Madeline was still alive. K.O. tells them he has been in hiding because Madeline is psycho. Now she is gunning not only for Tuck but is after Kate.
Tucker has one heck of a secret that made him jet from his hometown for a for nineteen years. When a woman's remains is found, he comes back to his hometown to confess his secret. Kate Rothschild's brother commited suicide and shes looking to avenge her brothers death and to find the women who might also have a connection to the Tucker. As they dig deeper to solve a mytersey it looks like the killer might still be out there and doesn't want them to find out what's really going on.
I loved this book. But there's a side book going on in this, that as nice as it was, it was distracting af. It should've been a novella on the side not where is alternated between the main story and that side story. It really didn't have much of a place in this book. Aside from that I loved the mystery that surrounded the whole book and learning more and more about what was really going on as I delve deeper into this book. I loved the connection between Tucker and Kate. I loved that this was a clean romance which I really appreciate. There was never a dull moment when it came to this book it was pretty great I really enjoyed it. Highly Recommend!
A skeleton from his past, literally, brings the eldest Cahill brother, Tucker back to Gilt Edge after nineteen years where his brother Flint is the happily married Sheriff and his bachelor brothers still work the ranch and the fraternal twins Darby and Lilly own and run the local saloon, also married, Lilly and Darby’s wife both full term pregnant. So all the principals are in play when in rides the congressman’s daughter, the reporter Kate who has an eye for Tucker. She’d have to be gorgeous to attract the attention of the most handsome Cahill. The author is at pains to describe all his fine-looking attributes. Well, this is a cowboy romance after all. Even the Saloon’s cook, Billy-Dee, has a sweetie on the side.
Spoilers follow
We learn that Madelaine, whatever her name, was a sexual predator who lured immature young men and then extorted money claiming pregnancy. Kate’s brother despite his father’s millions was another of Madelaine’s prey and the experience led to his suicide hence her interest. But who was the mysterious accomplice who buried the corpse?
Thus the romance becomes a murder mystery novel with the couple seeking to solve it and exact some revenge.
I was more than ready to enter into this one. The curiosity I would have about this brother is about to be opened with answers of you know the why's. Flint also has a big role in here being he is the police too. You get a glimpse into the past then fast forward to present. Then in comes Tucker with us the reader really hunkering down for some answers. More of Billie Dee's story is also in this one with you getting some questions forming along with some good outcomes. When Kate comes you feel bad for her but I thought at first she was a bit of grouch understandable though. This mystery will surely get you entwined with each layer that it goes into getting deeper as answers surface. The bond and relationship that grows with the two will be interesting as it will also be a solid one. This one was a humdinger too with twists that slap your face you don't see them coming. The gang all there too with this installment seeing lots of changes. The ending will have you like a deer in those headlights after being on a cliff but relief will be sweet.
Part of the Montana Cahills series, in which we get to know Tucker Cahill, who left town and his family 19 years earlier, following what he thought was the drowning of a young woman with whom he was in love. He's back now, just in time to learn that a skeleton has been found near the site where she fell off the bridge that night long ago.
Also arriving in little Gilt Edge, MT, is Kate Rothschild, daughter of a political mover and shaker, whose brother committed suicide, presumably because of the same woman Tucker fell for. Kate is determined to find out what really happened to her, but what she soon discovers is an attraction to Tucker who at first refuses to accept that he and Kate want the same thing: putting Madelaine and her relationship with him and her brother to rest.
Trouble is, Madelaine may not be dead. Not when someone keeps telling Tucker to leave town, not when someone comes after Kate and then kidnaps her. How all this plays out makes for a heart-pounding ending to a complex story.
I won a copy of this book from the author, I was not required to give a favorable review. This was the 5th book in the series and just as exciting as the rest of the series. This one deals with the long lost older brother Tucker who took of 19 years before and nobody know where he has been. But the finding of human remains by the creek near their ranch brings them home. Because he knows who it is, but their is a little twist. Not everything is what it seems. Kate comes to Gilt Edge to find out more about the bones and the missing cowboy and what it all means about her brother's suicide many years before. There are the so many turns in this story that you almost can't put it down. And again Deputy Sheriff Harp is trying to prove himself again. New babies, new relationships, and family are just what make these books wonderful.
Love B J Daniels books and this is no exception. I loved it..So glad to finally get to know Tucker's story and why he left Gilt Edge. Once he hears the news of bones found in the creek he comes home to confront why he left. While home he goes to the creek and sees a lady there crying at the grave site of where they found the bones to than spit on the grave. He chases her til he confronts here...they go on a date and than it all goes from there...Lots happen to Tucker and Kate as they chase down different leads but someone is leaving notes for Tucker that are increasingly becoming threatening...When Kate is taken he hears from the stalker and goes to put a stop to it all..Must must read as always is with B Js books..was hard to put down
I received an ARC copy via NetGalley and the Publisher for an honest review. I then went to Wal-Mart upon release and purchased the paperback.
This is not the first, nor will it be the last B.J. Daniels book I read or purchase. Her stories filled with angst. Heros who are regular people doing the right thing, but somehow get caught in the middle and heroines who have big hearts.
This book is not any different. It will keep you guessing from beginning to the very end. But of course, those of you who know me have already commented, but you can't play clue Angela. This is true. I suck at it. But I love romantic suspense and I love trying to guess what happens next. I can't wait for the next Cahill installment from Daniels to be released.
Tucker Cahill is home and he brings with him a whole lot of trouble. There’s a reason why he left and people don’t want him back. This book has to be my favorite of the Cahill’s Ranch series so far and that’s hard to say since I’ve loved them all. I was in for the ride and thought I might be in the front seat but as the story goes on I realized I was in the 3 row seat of a mini van. That is how good this story was woven. I highly recommend this book. It can be read as a stand alone but you’ll want to read the series. It’s worth it and there’s more to come. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
Tucker Cahill is back. Before Hero's Return he has just been missing for 18 years and we all wondered if we would ever find out why and where he went. We do find out why but not where. A decades old mystery comes into the light and Tucker is part of both the mystery and the solution. Along the way he meets Kate Rothschild whose brother is also part of the mystery. They have a very complicated route before finally solving what really happened and who was responsible. This was a nice way to finally meet Tucker and bring him back into the family life of the Cahill's.
I received a free copy of the book in return for an honest Review.
Tucker Cahill has finally come home but just in time to tell his brother Flint, the Sheriff, that the skeleton he found was his fault. Apparently nineteen years ago Tucker ran away when he girl he was in love with killed herself and their infant son but had she really. The truth was very different from what Tucker thought and he wasn’t the only young man who had fallen for the scam. Kate Rothschild showed up in Gilt Edge looking for answer for her brother who had killed himself over this same scam. Could the two of them discover the truth before someone else got hurt? Great storyline and great read.
Once again she's done an excellent job of writing a great book. Opens with a woman waiting for Tucker Cahill to meet her at a bridge, but when he sees her she is standing on the railing getting ready to jump in the river and she has something in her arms in a blanket, making him think that was their child. He is so distraught that he runs away from home. No one knows where he's been, but he suddenly returns home after 19 years. His brother Flint is the sheriff and he's investigating a body that was found in the river bed. It continues with a few twist and turns. You will enjoy it, I promise.
I love cowboy books and this did not disappoint. I want to read the whole series.
Tucker left home 19 years ago after the drowning death of his girlfriend Madeline and their son. However, when he returns he learns that things were not as they seemed.
Kate comes to town to write the story about Tucker. Her brother was also a victim of Madeline.
Madeline is a triplet and murdered her sister and their dad when they wanted to end their money making scheme of blackmailing teenage boys.
Kate and Tucker decide to work together to find Madeline once they learn the truth but it almost costs them their lives. Along the way they fell in love

Hero's Return (The Montana Cahills) by B.J. Daniels •Mystery Ready for a story full of lots of unexpected mystery? Then Hero's Return is definitely one you want to read. As soon as you think you know what's happening Daniels tosses you in another direction. Love, life, betrayal, family, honesty, loyalty, friendship, pain, romance.... Man this book has it all, with the idea of more to come. I for one would like to read more about the characters within this story. ARC received from Netgalley for an honest voluntary review.
Tucker Cahill’s story is as intriguing as all of his brother’s if not a little more. His affair with Madeline has come back to haunt him, but who was he really seeing, and what made him leave 19 years ago? You have to read this book to find out. It really keeps you in suspense. Then matching wits with Kate Rothschild drives him crazy but they need each other to figure everything out. She’s out for revenge for her brother’s suicide & seems to think Tucker Cahill might be involved...but is he? Throw in the Cahill cook Billie Dee and who is the new bar girl Ashley Jo? Is she who Billie Dee hopes she is? BJ Daniels did an excellent job on this book! It is a must read!
