Read a book you can read in one calendar day.

I know that this book is not literary in any way, and it is probably not as good as most books I gave three stars to, but I'm giving this a 3.5 because, you know what?

just so we're clear.

I know these books are cozy mysteries. I know they are predictable. I know that I have read 80% of this woman's collected works and can guess the whodunit at like 20%. I know that the writing isn't good. Guess what?


Because I breezed through this cozy mystery in less than one day, and it was fun. I enjoy Mary Higgins Clark probably because she was the first "adult" author I had ever read. My mother and grandmother both read and loved her books and passed them all down to me. I still like to pick up the rare ones I haven't read, and even though I know what will happen, they serve their purpose which is to entertain me.

I feel that everyone who reads has a set of criteria with which they judge books. Characterization and originality are very high up on my list. I also believe that everyone who reads has those books that are exceptions. Mary Higgins Clark's books are my exceptions. The characters are cut-outs, the dialogue is crap, and there is nothing in this book that you can't find in any cozy mystery anywhere else on earth. But I read them anyway.

Menley is a successful children's author with a hotshot lawyer husband and a new baby girl. They decide to rent a summer house on Cape Cod with an interesting and spooky history and busybody neighbors. Menley's husband Adam grew up on Cape Cod and all his friends are still there including the local real estate agent, Elaine whose past is intimately connected with Adam's. Elaine convinces Adam to take on a high-profile murder case involving a sketchy accident involving an heiress, Vivian, and her new blue-collar husband Scott, who may or may not be responsible for her death. While Adam is tied up with the case, Menley decides to do some research for her next book which she hopes to set on Cape Cod. She begins to dig into the history of her own rental, "Remember House" which is starting to give off some creepy vibes. These chilling and creepy nights she spends alone begin to tear her down and memories of her toddler son's death come flooding back to her in crippling panic attacks. Add to that whispering neighbors, folks with secrets to hide, and a possible killer living down the beach, Menley starts to look a little cray cray as she tries to find out what happened in her house and also what happened to Vivian.

This is the perfect kind of book to start out a vacation, which I did, and I also believe it to be one of Clark's better novels that I've read. I enjoyed Menley as a character, and her struggle to be a new mom while still suffering from the PTSD of losing her son in an accident which she feels responsible for added a nice dimension to the mystery. Nothing mind-blowing here, but it was pleasant. And pleasant adds a half star even though the writing and story can leave much to be desired at times.

Un libro excelente. Sin desperdicio. Ademas del lugar que transcurre esta historia, Cape Cod que por lo que se es un lugar perfecto para vacacionar, este argumento no da tregua. No he podido dejar el libro. Otra vez más Mary Higgins Clark no traiciona. Menley es una mujer atormentada, uno puede sentirlo y entenderlo, me puse en sus zapatos facilmente. Adam un hombre exitoso. Y todos, pero todos los personajes de la historia estan increibles. Scott, Elaine, hasta Amy y su padre. La sensacion que Nat tenia y que uno siente erronea. La odiosa familia Carpenter. Los chimentos de Carrie. Todos estan perfectos. Creo, sin dudarlo, que nadie imaginará la forma en que se desarrolla al final.


An excellent book. Without waste. In addition to the place where this story takes place, Cape Cod, which for what is a perfect place to vacation, this argument does not give truce. I have not been able to put the book down. Once again Mary Higgins Clark does not betray. Menley is a tormented woman, one can feel it and understand it, I put myself in her shoes easily. Adam a successful man. And all, but all the characters in the story are incredible. Scott, Elaine, and even Amy and her father. The feeling that Nat had and that one feels is wrong. The hateful Carpenter family. Carrie's gossip. They are all perfect. I believe, without hesitation, that no one will imagine the way it unfolds in the end.

Σκευωρίες, κρίσεις πανικού, παραισθήσεις, αμφιβολίες, ένας μυστηριώδης θάνατος και… φαντάσματα!!! Όλα αυτά συμβαίνουν σε μία έπαυλη του 18ου αιώνα! Πώς να μην ξετρελαθώ; Απρόσμενα καλό, αν σκεφτεί κανείς ότι αυτό το βιβλίο ούτε το ήξερα, ούτε το άκουσα ποτέ, και όταν το βρήκα απλώς το προσπέρασα. Το πώς έφτασε στα χέρια μου και μάλιστα πως έτυχε να το διαβάσω είναι μια άλλη ιστορία! Σίγουρα ήταν πάρα πολύ καλό, δεν ήθελα να το αφήσω με τίποτα. Κρίμα που είναι εξαντλημένο.

Enfin enfin,cet roman a reste plus que 2 mois dans mon bibliothèque.
La raison est simple : j'ai lu plusieurs review encourageante donc je veux la donner tt la chance
Par contre,elle m'a déçue,style 'd'écriture et l'histoire qui c'est déroule dans le passé puis on revint a notre histoire.ainsi que j'ai saisir le meurtre des le debut. Tt ces éléments me donner cette sensation de décu.


أخيرا أنهبتها هذه الرواية تنتظر في مكتبة مدة 2شهر ليس لضيق الوقت بل لانني قرأت تقييمات عالية لها لذلك اردت تأخيرها لاستمتاع بها.
اذا بي اصاب بخيبة امل.اولا اسلوب الذي حمع بين حكاية في ماضي و شبح المرأة و ربطها بحاضر لم يرق لي بتات و وجدت نفسي اتتبع معلومات لا تهمني و ليس مكانها رواية بوليسية. ثانيا تمكنت من تكهن من قاتل قبل نهاية بمراحل و شخصيات كانت غير موظفة جيدا
فلقد كرهت العاشق السلبي الذي يصدق كل ترهات حبيته و الزوج الذي لا يثق في زوجته.كل هذه اسباب و كرهي لجانب الرعب جعلني لا احذو مع جميع و اعطيها تقييم عاليا

I really enjoyed this book until the last page or two, and then I remembered being disappointed by one of the Clarks before.

Mary Higgins Clark obviously does her research and she sets a well paced story with interesting characters. Her process of educating the reader is integral to the narrative rather than a thinly veiled attempt to show us how much she knows. (Thank you so much!)

The last "note", however, was as anticlimactic as possible. Had she placeced that tidbit a littel earlier, it would have been interesting and perhaps might have helped to build the tension. At the end, it overshadowed the mystery and put this book ino the psuedo-irony category.

My conclusion is that I'll continue to read her books; but I'll skip the last paragraph.

The ending was a bit of a surprise. Not about Scott, at all. He was pretty obviously repulsive throughout the entire book, despite the author's attempts to make him seem charming. But the twist of the girl mastermind behind the whole thing was a bit of a shock. Truthfully, I kept waiting for Adam to be the bad guy in this. Honestly, I found him almost intolerable the entire story. I was completely annoyed with him not trusting his wife at all. Especially when it came to the care of their baby girl. Menley could have done so much better.

Popsugar reading challenge 17. Un libro que tenga el mismo título que una canción.

Pudo estar mejor pero tampoco fue tan terrible.
Al principio puede ser un poco confuso porque tiene muchos personajes con historia entrecruzadas y cada uno va teniendo su capítulo, incluso aveces tenía dos perspectivas en un mismo capítulo y tan de golpe que me tardaba un poco en darme cuenta que había cambiado.

Quizás, a mi gusto, le sobraron un par de páginas. No haré un resumen porque siento que contaría mucho y así que chiste xd así que solo diré que en lo personal no me gustó el desenlace, aunque si estuvo mejor la parte final del libro, había más movimiento y estuvo un poco más intenso.

Ahora pasando a otro tema, llegué a este libro por casualidad cuando vi que alguien lo puso como leído y como justo me encontraba buscando un libro para la categoría, y aquí quiero hacer un hincapié porque no estaba buscando cualquier libro sino alguno que me coincidiera con alguna canción de Morat 💜😂🙈 y pues... 🤭 es que es uno de mis dos grupos favoritos pero el único en español así que nada tenía que leerlo independientemente de si me gustaba o no jajaja

Reread for book club- good mystery and I had forgotten everything. The climax was saved until the very last few pages and everything seemed to resolve quickly. Logically the motives seemed a little far fetched, but was a still a good Mary Higgins Clark book.

Read in 2005: One of my favorite suspense/mysteries! Full of thrills and ghost stories, I had to keep my roomate up with me just to go to the bathroom afterwards.

Its been a while since I have read any Mary Higgins Clark and I have to say I struggled with this one a bit - mainly due to the large number of characters who were being introduced and then how the story switched between them

I would add though that these various threads did eventually all draw together and in true Mary Higgins Clark style deliver a suitable ending. The strange thing is that I have read larger and more complicated stories in the past without any issue - I just struggled this time.

So yes another reliable thriller from a well established author of this genre - good fun to read if a little hard to get going at the start. I believe this was from her most prolific writing time although I will be the first to admit I know very little of her body of work just that if you want a reliable family based thriller this is a good place to start rather like if you want horror start with Stephen King

LOVED this! Restored my faith in the mystery genre!

This review will be a half talking about what I liked about the book and half complaining about the mystery genre.

Here are some things about the mystery genre that are way overused and I’ve started to hate that this book does not rely on
1. Melodramatic and stupid characters. Especially more in the “thriller” genre, some of the characters just suck so much and their motivations make no sense and their actions just seem so forced.
—The characters in this book are likeable and relatable and complex and believable and you want to figure out the mystery in part because it’s a good mystery and in part because you care about the characters.
2.Twists based on unreliable narrator/narrative tricks. I will admit some of these twists do shock me but it’s really less a twist of the story and just the author purposefully tricking you so you are surprised... for example a section of a book is narrated by who you are lead to believe is one character and it’s actually another character, or just the right details are left out to make you think one thing is happening when really it’s something else along. These can definitely be fun but I feel like they’re more about the author playing tricks on you then actually crafting a complex mystery.
—Loved this book because you are really figuring out the mystery along with the characters instead of everyone knows the answer all along but the author is doing sneaky little things to make sure the reader doesn’t figure it out til the end.
3. Too many plot lines just for the sake of twists and turns.... like ok cool we figured out the sisters the killer (not talking about this book) did we really need the whole plot line where the creepy ex boyfriend comes back and stalks the main character that has nothing to do with anything??
—This book definitely has a lot going on and lot of plot lines but they all come together at the end!!

Anyway, loved this book a lot!! Will definitely be reading more Mary Higgins Clark. There’s a reason they call her the queen of suspense!

This is my all-time favorite Mary Higgins Clark book. What I like most about Clark is that I can count on the book to be clean, yet entertaining--a combination that's hard to come by these days. This one is set along the northeast coastline and has a windswept, cottage feel.

THE QUEEN OF ROMANTIC SUSPENSE WRiTES A GHOST STORY....

In an introduction to this novel, Mary Higgins Clark acknowledges reading several books of folk legends and history about Cape Cod and its outer islands near Boston, Massachusetts. REMEMBER ME (first published in 1994) is the result of her readings and introduces us to an authentic Captain's house on a bluff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean...an old house that is the object of a few local legends, filled with hidden rooms, once empty for 35 years. Around Cape Cod, the story is that a sea captain named Andrew Freeman built the house for his young bride in the late 1600s. Although the house was originally called Nickquenum, an Indian word that means "I am going home," the residents of nearby Chatham have dubbed it Remember House after a story about a woman who knew she was going to die when her baby was born and changed the name so the child would always remember her.

At the beginning of the story, Clark introduces us to Adam Nichols, a criminal attorney, and his wife Menley, a writer of children's stories, who live in Manhattan. Adam's family always summered at Cape Cod, so he rents the restored captain's house for a bit of rest and relaxation with his wife and their new baby daughter Hannah. Their first child, a son, had been killed in an accident a couple of years before the time of the story.

Mary Higgins Clark has always endeared readers with her romantic suspense and singular heroines. In this novel, she introduces a plethora of islanders...practically a whole village. There's Scott Covey who has married a wealthy spinster who drowns in an scuba accident off Monomoy Island shortly after the wedding. There's Phoebe Sprague and her husband Henry, a retired couple, who live next door to the Covey's. Phoebe was writing a history of the Cape but is in the throes of Alzeimer's. There's the widow Jan Paley whose husband died of a stroke incurred while restoring Remember House one hot summer day; she is presently leasing but thinking about selling the property. And there is Elaine Atlkins, a family friend and local realtor, who changes the location of the Nichols' vacation home at the last minute.

Although Clark inserts a cradle rocking by itself, sightings of a woman with baby on the widow's walk, and strange other events including a few mysterious sounds during the course of the story, Remember House, in the end, is just a dark, old house with a name...just a setting...no ghosts are found.

I've always been a fan of Mary Higgins Clark and this book just increases my love for her work. Remember Me is a beautifully written novel that blends intrigue, suspense and drama into a delightful little package.

The story centers on Menley Nichols, the wife of the high-profile defense attorney Adam Nichols. She is plagued by the unfortunate death of her two-year-old son Bobby, and suffers from Post-traumatic stress disorder. Hoping to mend their failing marriage, the couple move into Remember House on Cape Cod and try to start over with their little baby girl, Hannah. But the house itself contains haunting tales of its former owner, a captain who deserted his wife when he learned that his wife had been unfaithful.

Soon enough, strange events begin to occur in the house and Menley begins to relive the horror of her son's death. In the dead of night she begins to hear the sounds of an oncoming train as well as her little boy calling out to her. Menley fears that she is becoming mentally unstable and tries desperately to find rational explanations for her strange experiences.

Meanwhile, upon Menley's insistence, Adam becomes involved in defending Scott Covey, the primary suspect in the murder of his wealthy young wife. The Nichols become entangled in a web of mysteries that threaten to test their relationship as well as their safety.

I felt like I was on a tight rope while I read this book. As the plot took on its twists and turns I found myself absorbed into the mystery. I mean one minute I'm sure this was going to happen then in the next instant I'm completely taken by surprise. When it was revealed that Adam's childhood friend, Elaine and his client were behind the mysterious occurrences at Remember House all I could say was: "I KNEW IT!!!' But yeah, I was a little bummed about the ending. All in all though, it was an incredible book.

We all know that this is not the type of book that is popular nowadays, but I dare to say that lots of people will like it and here's why: this book is about a certain type of American life that has faded in the past years. A certain type of American lifestyle that was shown to us (the rest of the world) in the movies and sitcoms of the '90. This book reads like an old-fashioned mistery, it's like a movie that you forget once it's over, but the power of this book relies exactly in the parts that we might consider outdated or old-fashioned or even weaknesses of the story. It speaks about a world without smartphones, where time seemed so patient with people. I liked the atmosphere, the world and the lifestyle that we all wanted when we were kids. Revisiting the atmosphere in this book was such a joy for me and I do believe that other will like it too. In the end, though we are all connected by the internet, using smartphone, deep down our souls we still want neighbors like the Camdens (7th Heaven), maybe a coffee at Central Perk and live in a small Connecticut town called Stars Hollow.

this is one of Mary Higgins Clark,s older books that somehow got pushed way back on my bookshelves at home. I'm glad I found it. Loved it as most of her books. A great psychological thriller that leaves you guessing right up to the end. If you like thrillers and haven't read this one yet I recommend you do. I think you'll enjoy it.

I borrowed this book from a friend, and it was my first Mary Higgins Clark book. I must thank my friend for lending it to me. I really enjoyed it. Ms. Higgins Clark's writing style is spare and direct. Her characters are very well-drawn, and she ratchets up the suspense all the way through. I loved the setting of this book - Cape Cod in the late summer. Ms. Higgins Clark's descriptions of the area are very realistic, and it brings the scene to life. In this book we have a young family who have recently experienced a horrendous loss. Menley has been carrying her guilt for the death of her small son. With a new baby in her arms, she has many occasions to question her sanity, but above all she knows that she will do anything it takes to protect her infant, Hannah. We have ancient history from the early 18 century joined with the present day and star-crossed lovers and nefarious villains in both time frames. Add what appears to be a haunted house with its own secrets to keep, and you have a real page-turner of a book. Menley being a popular children's books writer and illustrator added to the scrumptiousness of this book. I may have to check out some of Ms. Higgins Clark's extensive backlist. Sometimes you just need to escape.

Super impressed with Remember Me. I wasn't expecting a murder mystery novel that I couldn't put down!

There was a ton of moving parts in Remember Me. Scott and his wife Vivian are out sailing one day and decide to go scuba diving. A storm comes when they are down in the water and Vivian is swept into the ocean and is later found dead. One of the police officers is sure that this wasn't an accident. Minley and Adam are trying to overcome the tragic accident leading to the death of their son. They rent out a house for the summer, but Adam ends up taking on the case of Scott. Minley is left alone and begins to relive the horrible accident.

There was a lot of characters in this novel, but once you figured out who was who, you get caught up in the story. I was really interested to know what had happened to Vivian as well as what was going on with Minley. Was everything a figment of her imagination?

There was also a lot of subplots that I didn't care about (the historical aspect of the house that they were staying in).

Overall a great read and I believe one of MHC's better novels.

Ουφ,επιτέλους πάει κι αυτό!Αναρωτιέμαι ποτέ θα πιάσω στα χέρια μου ένα πραγματικά καλό βιβλίο,δεν με ενδιαφέρει το είδος,αλλά θέλω εκείνη την αίσθηση της ανυπομονησίας να πιάσεις το βιβλίο κάθε φορά που το αφήνεις και στο τέλος να μη θέλεις να τελειώσει.Το "σπίτι των αναμνήσεων" είναι ένα γρήγορο μεν,φλύαρο δε βιβλίο,χωρίς ιδιαιτερες ανατροπές και εκπλήξεις.Το στυλ του για κάποιο λόγο μου θύμισε αμερικανική σαπουνόπερα των 80-90.Ο όμορφος ακαταμάχητος δικηγόρος Ανταμ Νικολς που όλες οι γυναίκες τρελαίνονται στη θέα του και ο σέξυ,πανέμορφος Σκοτ που αποτελεί φαντασίωση κάθε θηλυκού.Επειτα παραπομπές σε πανάκριβα κοσμήματα και χλιδή μου έφεραν στο νου τη Τζοαν Κολλινς από τη Δυναστεία. Φυσικά η συγγραφες δεν εστιάζει καθόλου σε αυτά,άλλα και μόνο η αναφορά τους φέρνει στο νου έντονα τις ταινίες και σειρές των '80'ς.Δεν εντυπωσιαστηκα με το βιβλίο,αλλά δεν θα το χαρακτήριζα και εντελώς αδιάφορο.Το φιναλε μου άρεσε ιδιαίτερα.Τρία αστέρια απο εμένα,λοιπόν!!!!

I was in the mood for a mystery and when I was in Providence, on my way to Cape Cod for the summer, this book was the first book I picked up when I was proozing in Salvation Army. It was really fun to read while I was in the Cape because a lot of the places, streets, restaurants they talked about, I knew where they were. It was a super easy read (almost equivalent to how I remember a Nancy Drew). I had trouble getting into it at first, especially since there were a lot of characters and the chapters were short and choppy. But once I figured out who everyone was and got more into the story it was a fun, easy read. The end made the whole story come together and it was not what I expected, although it was not a very exciting, thought provoking or intricate ending, it was still worth reading if you are going to the beach and want something extremely light.

الفكرة كبداية مطروقة عن البيوت المسكونة وربطها بالأمراض النفسية, مستوى اللغة أقل من المتوسط وهذا بطبيعة الحال ليس من أول العوامل التي أبحث عنها في رواية بوليسية ومن الواضح أن الترجمة مؤثرة بشكل فعلي على لغة الرواية فبانت ركيكة في بعض المواضع كما أزعجتني بعض الإخطاء الإملائية مثل انتقاص الهمزات وهو أمر يستفزني كثيراً على الرغم من أنه لم يؤثر على السرد والمعنى

أسلوب الكاتبة يبدو متأثراً بأسلوب أغاثا كريستي وأعترف أنها صدمتني في بعض الأحيان واستبقت الأحداث بنفسي في أحايين أخرى

رواية خفيفة وممتعة تصلح للقراءة في السفر ولذلك أعطيتها النجمات الأربعة, وبإذن الله سوف أقتني روايات أخرى للكاتبة في المعرض القادم

Mary Higgins Clark does a good job of penning an easy read. Menley Nichols & her husband Adam are vacationing in a Cape house named Remember House. Dealing with a bit of post-traumatic stress after their 2 year old son gets killed by a train, Menley thinks she is going crazy only to discover that -SPOILER ALERT- Adam's "good buddy" Elaine & his client Scott Covey, who is on trial for the murder of his wife, have been playing cruel tricks on Menley to try to get her out of the picture so Elaine can have Adam for herself. The ending wasn't my favorite.
