Rate this book
The Amish residents of Willow Ridge share their talents at the Simple Gifts crafts shop-and share the blessings of faith, hard work, and love with their community-even when family secrets bring unexpected challenges . . . Drew Detweiler came to Willow Ridge under a cloud, but the handsome craftsman has gained the community's respect for his upholstery skills and commitment to making amends for his mistakes. As her new brother-in-law's twin, he's joining the family for dinners and Sunday visits at the Riehl house, and Loretta can't deny enjoying his attentions. If only her dat were willing to let a little joy into his life. Cornelius Riehl grows more stern with each passing day, and Drew suspects there's more to his moods than missing Loretta's late mamm. Hoping to fulfill Loretta's wish to live in a peaceful, happy home again, Drew sets out to learn the truth. It's a journey that will bring to light painful realities-but also the chance to forge a new, honest, and loving future together.

Drawing upon her experiences in Jamesport, the largest Old Order Amish community west of the Mississippi, longtime Missourian Charlotte Hubbard (a.k.a. Naomi King) writes of simpler times and a faith-based lifestyle in her new Seasons of the Heart series. Like her heroine, Miriam Lantz, Charlotte considers it her personal mission to feed people—to share hearth and home. Faith and family, farming and food preservation are hallmarks of her lifestyle, and the foundation of her earlier Angels of Mercy series. She’s a deacon, a dedicated church musician and choir member, and when she’s not writing, she loves to try new recipes, crochet, and sew. Charlotte now lives in Minnesota with her husband and their border collie.

This is the second book in the Simple Gifts series and it is Loretta's story. Loretta is struggling to find her footing after her ex-fiancé, Will, moves to Willow Ridge. He is all apologetic for letting her father run him off and marrying Molly on the rebound. Even though he did not father her twins, they were intimate and he claims he did love her. He wants to court Loretta, but she no longer has feelings for him. And then there is Drew, who is the father, but is trying to be a better man. He deceived many in the previous story, but Edith and Asa have forgiven him and he has his sights on Loretta. Loretta wants to teach rug-making and work at Simple Gifts, not be her dad's stay-at-home, old-maid daughter for the rest of her life. She wants a home, a husband and children. Her father, Cornelius, is still a tyrant, determined to have his way no matter what the cost. Will, knows his secret and is willing to use it to save the girls from his grip. I was cheering for Loretta to fight for her dreams while wondering at her courage, considering her background.

Fans of Amish fiction will surely fall in love with Loretta and most of the other characters in this book. I am enjoying the continuing saga of the Riehl sisters and the fortunes of Nora and The Simple Gifts store. I also enjoyed learning more about Rachel, the triplet that returned to Willow Ridge after finding about her birth family. Wyatt was another new character that brought another storyline to the book that was also very enjoyable and entertaining. I enjoyed how Charlotte Hubbard was able to weave all the various characters and their stories into an entertaining and enjoyable Christian Fiction Romance story. Once again, I listened to this book and was very happy with the narration by Susan Boyce. She does a wonderful job with her calming voice. I felt like I was in Willow Ridge experiencing this story. Well done.

Book two in the Simple Gifts series. It is a very fast easy read. It can be a stand alone but you are not going to want to miss book one A Simple Vow.

Making rugs would be so much fun. Loretta gets to do that in this one. I loved the whole story from the first page to the last.

You will read this one in one sitting. And you will enjoy the simple life and simple story about a simple wish.

I gave this book 4 stars. I hope that you will read this series.

Ms. Hubbard is gifted at the ability to have multiple story lines running through her books. While A SIMPLE WISH stands alone, fans will want to read A Simple Vow and the books in her Promise Lodge series. Well, all her books, really.

Loretta is struggling to find her footing after her former beau, Will, shows up all apologetic for letting her father run him off and marrying some other girl he'd been intimate with even though he wasn't the father of her twins. But then there is Drew, who is the father, but he's trying to be a better man, though Loretta sure tempts him not want to be. And then there is Loretta who wants to teach rug-making and not be her dad's stay-at-home, old-maid daughter for the rest of her life. She wants a home of her own. And a husband. And kids.
Her dad on the other hand is a tyrant, determined to have his way no matter what the cost.

With Loretta working in the same shop as Will, sparks are sure to fly--and not just from that direction, as Drew lives right across the road. And he's a bold one, baby, not one to go sneaking around behind Daddy's back.

Fans of Amish fiction will surely fall in love with Loretta and most of the other characters in this book (because of course every story has a villain or two) and the continuing sagas of some of the other characters mentioned in the prior book. I was cheering for Loretta to fight for her dreams while wondering at her courage, considering her background. And one of the other main characters won my heart too.

Grab a copy of A SIMPLE WISH of your own. You won't be able to put this book down.

I was given a copy free. All opinions are my own.

How I have missed being in Willow Ridge, and Charlotte Hubbard has opened that door again, and now I don’t want to leave. This book can be read alone, there is a lot of information provided to bring you up to date, but believe me, you will want to read the past books, they are that good!
We are treated to two sweet, clean romances, one with Amish Loretta, and Drew, who we met when he tried to marry her sister, um wait a minute, do we trust him? The other is Rebecca, one of the triplets and brought up English, and newcomer Wyatt, imagine his surprise seeing her dressed Amish, so sweet!
There is a lot of drama here, and we see a “do as I say, not as I do” thinking going on, and when the facts start to unfold, you are going to cringe. Through it all, we see these people living their faith, forgiveness easy to say, but hard to do, and yet they prove it is possible.
I loved this read, the only problem is turning the last page, and wanting to continue, I want more!

A Simple Wish is book two from Charlotte Hubbard's Simple Gifts series. I enjoyed the people of Willow Ridge. The story is a good, heartwarming and quick read. It, also, includes a sweet and clean romance.

I look forward to the book three in the series to see what happens next.

Though, it is slightly predictable, I would still give this book four stars. I recommend it to those who enjoy a light Amish story.

I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

I don't think you will want to miss Loretta's story! Happy reading!

So, I'm going to start of by stating the obvious here, the cover of this book is so pretty that it demands attention. It certainly got mine.

I knew what to expect as far as the storyline went because this is the second book in the Simple Gifts series. and I was familiar with the characters, so I can't say that there were any surprises. There is one character that has matured which is to be expected and there is another that you will question his motives and behavior. I know that in future books that his secrets will be revealed to his daughters and the community of Willow Ridge.

I would suggest you read the first book in the series to get to know the wonderful characters in this series.

It took me a couple chapters to have all the characters sorted out in my mind since I haven’t read anything by this author before and it seems that all of her books are connected. Though I knew going in that this was the second in a series, the synopsis led me to believe this focused on one couple so I thought it would be like it often is with romance series, easy enough to dive in and read it like a stand-alone, and eventually I did get what was going on with everyone, but it definitely doesn’t read like a stand-alone. It’s possible that if I’d read the author’s other books I would have felt more engaged with this one, though I’m not so sure.

As I mentioned, this doesn’t just focus on Loretta and Drew as the synopsis implies, there’s another romance, an ex struggling to move on with his life, and near the end we’re introduced to the story of a young guy who’s strayed from the Amish path, on top of that the story is populated with Amish, Mennonites, and English, so there’s explaining of everyone’s way of life as well. To me, it was too much ground to cover over this book’s allotted page count. I know Debbie Macomber’s series are big sellers and each book tells the continuing stories of various community members just as this book does so this format is nothing new and plenty of people obviously love it, but to me, focusing on several stories stories short-changed all of them, none of them had enough time to develop so the romances and the character growth felt far more rushed than I would have liked.

As far as characters go, I liked that Loretta stands up for what she wants, and I think I could have liked her romance with Drew if not for that rushed feeling. Loretta fell for him really quickly and it felt like his past mistakes were far too easily dismissed rather than really worked through, he consistently did the right thing in this book but, it just seemed off to me that so soon after he fathered children with someone else and after he handed off the care of those children to his brother he’s thinking about the children he’s going to have with Loretta, it just seemed to me like more time should have passed in between, like his alleged growth might have been more convincing had it happened at a gradual pace and it didn’t help his cause that he heaped most of the blame of the pregnancy on the girl as if he were some innocent seduced bystander, that attitude didn’t exactly scream genuine growth to me.

While there were aspects of this book I enjoyed like Nora’s shop and the craftsmanship that went into it, overall this didn’t quite work for me, though I’m sure there are plenty of other readers who will appreciate it more than I did.

Sometimes I think there are just too many characters in Charlotte Hubbard's books. I can't keep them all straight until I'm several chapters in and then I still have to stop and think about who is who. The main focus of this book is Loretta Riehl and Drew Detweiler. Both of these characters are introduced in the first book of the series, A Simple Vow. Now, I have to be really honest and say I didn't like Drew in the first book and at the beginning of this book my feelings were the same. Charlotte Hubbard did a great job with this character and the way she developed him and let him continually change and grow throughout the book. By the end of the book, my attitude towards him had completely changed. I also liked the way the Riehl sisters grew some backbone during the book and stuck up for themselves against their father who seemed a bit of a tyrant. I didn't care for Cornelius and I really don't think we are done seeing what he is all about. I'm hoping not anyway because I feel there are more secrets to be revealed where he is concerned.

There is also a secondary storyline in this book concerning Rebecca, who was born Amish but then was raised English and now lives English among the Amish and is accepted by everyone. She meets and is attracted to Wyatt who buys land and is almost immediately accepted by the Amish community. I'm not quite sure that the Amish would be so completely accepting of this man and there is a big age gap between Rebecca and Wyatt. Eighteen years I believe it is and that is honestly a storyline I don't want to read. It just doesn't seem realistic to me.

The storyline is interesting enough and the pace is fast enough that this was an easy read for me. The descriptions made me feel as if I were right there in the story with the characters. I am looking forward to the next book in the series to see what happens with these characters and I'm really hoping the last Riehl sister, Rosalynn, will be able to find love as her sisters have.

This book will appeal to those who like Amish fiction that isn't of the "cookie cutter" variety. I would definitely read the first book before this one to really understand the characters and have a full understanding of what makes them tick.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are mine.

Loretta and her younger sister live with their amish father Cornelius Most of the time Cornelius is mean and grumpy especially to his daughters. Cornelius is keeping as secret from the community as well as his daughters. The community does wonder why Deacon Cornelius goes to Kansas City so often for clock parts. Drew is a former “ bad boy” and he wants to make up for his past mistakes and has changed his way. But he is a newcomer to the community and people are guarded in their regards to Drew He is t a twin to Loretta’s brother in law. Drew had tried to marry Loretta’s sister. Loretta wants some adventure in her life and has turned to Drew. Drew feels he and Loretta have a lot in common. Drew is respected for he had some talented upholstery skills. Will had twin children from a previous relationship but leaves the twins with his brother. Loretta had been engaged to Will but her dad had broke it up. Will wanted Loretta back and to become engaged again and marry but Loretta says no.Will is very upset with Loretta’s decision. Loretta makes rugs for the Simple Gifts shop she also works there. Then there is Rebecca who is one of a set of triplets. Rebecca is interested in Wyatt who is a farm owner. Rebecca was brought up english and Wyatt was surprised when he seen Rebecca in Amish clothes.
I had mixed feelings about this book. There was a lot of drama in this book and I don’t think that is normal in Amish stories at least not in the ones I have read before.I also felt there were too many plots or stories going on to make this an enjoyable read. This was suppose to be able to be read as a stand alone novel but I felt I missed out on a lot and may have liked this a lot better if I had read the other book[s] first. I felt Drew and Loretta's romance was rushed but I did love Drew wanted Loretta to have her peaceful happy family and life. I did laugh at times while reading this. I liked the plot or at least one of them. As I said there was things I liked about this book then some not so much. I think someone else will love this book just wasn’t meant for me.

This author has become one of my favourites when it comes to the Amish fiction genre. Every book is unique and goes far beyond the ordinary stereotype of what we normally think of in this genre. Charlotte always manages to tackle sensitive subjects, (those not usually dealt with when writing of the Plain People), with understanding and grace.

This book is the second in the Simple Gift series. It can be read as a stand alone and enjoyed as such, however, I found that after having read the first, this novel was like coming home to visit my friends, Loretta and Drew. The familiarity with the setting and characters spurred me on!! I was immediately caught up in their lives and could not put this book down !!

The characters are so vividly and realistically described that the reader can feel their every hurt, challenge, worry, joy! I must say that Cornelius is one character that actually scared me! I worried constantly about what this stern rather mean individual would do next to his poor daughters. The story comes to life as the characters are developed and I quickly identified with them. Would Cornelius ever allow his dear daughters to find the happiness that they deserve?? Loretta is such a strong , young lady! But, is she able to withstand the negative pressures put upon her by her father?? A developing romance finds huge roadblocks at every move.

The plot is extremely well developed with twists and turns when you least expect them. Drew uncovers dramatic secrets that shocked me to the core, as they did his daughters. The road to romance was a true roller coaster ride with many more dips than hills. The mystery and intense drama in this novel kept me glued to the page.

Charlotte Hubbard, you did it again!! You kept me up long after my bedtime reading this fabulous book!!! Definitely a five star book!!

I am anxiously awaiting the next book that this author creates!!

I received this book as a gift. The thoughts and opinions expressed are honest and my own.

My Review
Charlotte Hubbard has done it again. I love her Amish inspired books and series. I normally d not read this type of book. I actually read books about as opposite as you can get. Paranormal is my usually genre. I first encountered Charlotte's book through another tour from Goddess Fish and I am so glad I did. When I chose the book during that tour I was hooked. Now I read everything by Charlotte I can get my hands on.

Charlotte's books are clean, wholesome, loving stories. They are written about the Amish but are not filled with religion like some Amish stories I have read by other authors. Each of her books I have read take your heart and head on the full gambit of emotions. You fall in love with her characters and feel like they are real friends by the end of the book.

A Simple Wish is the 2nd book in the Simple Gifts Series. It can be read as a stand alone but it is a continuation in a way of the first book, since the characters are the same with a few new additions. In the first book of the series Edith Riehl was the star. In this book her sister Loretta is the main character.

Loretta has decided it is time she takes a stand on her own life. She makes and sells rugs at a friends gift store. She has decided to also work for the store even after her Grouchy Father has forbade it. She also is starting a relationship with her sister's husband's twin brother Drew.

Drew if you read the first book was kind of a snake. But he has redeemed himself since coming to live in the small community. He has shown himself as a changed and man and has gained the respect of the community, and the eye of Loretta.

A few things and a few people want to stand in their way of happiness including Will. Will is Loretta's ex-Fiance.

Ok that's all your getting out of me. Go read the book!!

Charlotte Hubbard writes interesting Amish fiction with complex characters and equally complex plots. First, there's Loretta Riehl, once engaged, but now she's trying to make the young man understand she just doesn't feel for him the way she used to.

Drew Detweiller is Asa's twin brother and finds himself intrigued by Loretta.

Edith Detweiller is Asa's wife and Loretta's sister.

Rosalyn is the other sister in the Riehl household. Cornelius is their father and he's in a perpetual bad mood. His demands that he be obeyed and his every whim catered to makes for quite a bit of angst and drama in the book.

A Simple Wish is Loretta's wish that she find love that will last her life and that her life will be filled with peace. Cornelius causes trouble with his daughters and then with the bishop and the other leadership of the local congregation. He's got the idea he doesn't answer to anyone but requires his family to answer to him.

Loretta's and Drew's relationship grows in spite of Cornelius' behavior, and in fact, Drew steps in to speak for Loretta with her father and make himself understood as far as how Cornelius should treat his daughters.

In the review of the previous book in this series, I was wishing that more of Cornelius' secrets would have been revealed. They were in this book, but not entirely. Charlotte has set this book up for another sequel. This is like reading the Mitford series by Jan Karon. The more books you read, the more you find out about the people who populate Willow Ridge.

Five Stars, Two Thumbs Up, and a wish come true.

My thanks to Zebra books for allowing me to read and review this book.

Another Hit for Hubbard!

I so enjoyed Charlotte Hubbard’s A Simple Vow (first in her Simple Gifts series.) So when I had the opportunity to read her latest release, A Simple Wish, I was excited. But a question lingered: Could she pull off another good story? Unequivocally yes!
Loretta Riehl makes beautiful rugs for the Simple Gifts craft shop in Willow Ridge. After her breakup with Will Gingerich (the guy that married a woman who was pregnant with another man’s child), she’s ready for a change. Will, who is widowed, longs to change his circumstances and win back Loretta’s affections…if it weren’t for that Drew Detweiler!

Drew Detweiler has atoned for the sins of his past, and desires to make a new start with Loretta. But then he stumbles across Loretta’s cantankerous father Cornelius. Drew has his suspicious that there is more going on in Cornelius’s life than he’s letting on. After all, Drew does know a trick or two. But how will Loretta react when she hears the truth?

I was given A Simple Wish in exchange for my honest review. I highly recommend reading A Simple Vow first, as its storylines are heavily referenced (get ready!) A Simple Wish was a good, fun read. The characters and storylines are well thought-out and intriguing. It’s the perfect novel to sink your teeth into for a lazy weekend. Another hit for Hubbard!

A Simple Wish by Charlotte Hubbard is book 2 of her Promise Lodge series. While it can be read as a stand-alone novel. I had not read book 1 and it did leave me wanting to go back and see what I had missed. Multiple story lines cross in this novel, but Hubbard is able to write in a way that it is not cluttered but easy to follow each.

Loretta is struggling to find her way since her former beau, Will, shows up apologizing for allowing her father to run him off and into the arms of another girl whom he married. Although they had twins, he is not the father as she was pregnant when she convinced him to marry her. Loretta’s neighbor, Drew, is the father of the twins but he has been desperately trying to become a better man and member of the church. Loretta, along with her older sister, is still at home and taking care of her father, whose temperament has become worse and worse since her mother passed. Loretta longs to teach rug-making at the local store and not be her dad's old-maid daughter for the rest of her life. Loretta just wants the Amish dream, a husband, kids, and home of her own. Her dad is determined to have his way no matter what the cost.

Fans of Amish fiction will love this book!

Don't be fooled by the title of Charlotte Hubbard's latest book -- A Simple Wish. The wish might be simple, but the story is not.

Like her other books set in real and fictional Missouri towns, Charlotte Hubbard has written another story that doesn't quite fit the cookie-cutter style of Amish romance. She has strong females lead out in situations that usually get a little -- or maybe a lot -- complicated and don't always have a resolution that would fit a stereotypical Amish community.

Reading the first book in the series, A Simple Vow, is pretty much a necessity to understand a lot of the story line in this one. And if you've read Charlotte's Seasons of the Heart series, you will find several "old friends" who carry over into these stories.

Amish fiction fans should enjoy this story and will be left wanting more, as there are several loose ends that will likely be tied up in the next book.

As a word of caution to readers, there are a couple of off-color words used in one conversation in the story -- something a little unexpected in this type of story.

Thanks to Charlotte for providing me with a copy of A Simple Wish. I was glad to share my own thoughts in this review.

I am loving this new series!

Now that Edith is happily married, Loretta Riehl is being hounded by Will Gingrich to renew their relationship… and to convince her dat to allow them to marry. But Loretta no longer wants to marry Will. She’s put off by his whirlwind courtship — and marriage — to Molly Ropp. How could he have truly loved her if he could court and marry another so quickly?

Well, I agree with her… and I’d find it very difficult to believe, too. So when Drew Detweiler comes along, I think I would have done the very same thing — leave Will on the porch and take off with Drew! At least it gave her time to think about both young men.

Hubbard writes such realistic stories that I find myself caught up in the drama from the first page — to the last.

One more thing… just what is going on with her dat? I wasn’t too impressed with him in A Simple Vow (book one) and in this sequel his actions continue to annoy me. But I can’t quite figure out what’s going on in his life — and his workshop…

Happy Reading!!!

A Simple Wish has two of my criteria that keep me reading page after page, romance and mystery. While reading this wonderful book, the mystery and how the community was going to deal with it when it was solved, remained foremost on my mind. So many great charactors though, that I never wanted to skip to the end to find out.

Loretta remained my favorite character throughout with her strong character. Even though she was scared to do so at times, she displayed courage to fulfill her her dreams.

I love it when a book inspires me to learn something new, like a craft or a new recipe. After reading about the art of making a rag rug I can't wait to learn how.

This is the second book of the series but I feel as though it could stand alone.
What a great read!

Simple Wish is a great example of Amish romantic fiction with angst, a touch of mystery, and a complex love relationship. It is enjoyable and entertaining. The writing is good, the story is not fluff, but shows the Amish as ridden with many of the same sins and vices as the English. I am looking forward to another installment in this series. It is good for the genre, and would compete with Beverly Lewis for audience and enticement into a series. This is great for public libraries, women’s fiction, and readers’ groups. It should prove popular with those who enjoy this genre.

[review for audio]
Audio narrator Susan Boyce gives a fine performance, providing character and voice to a range of characters, both male and female, and various ages showing temperament, mood, and wide range of emotion (love, anger, fear, jealousy). She is an engaging narrator that leaves the listener at attention.

A well written novel with plenty of unexpected twists and turns without being ridiculous. The Willow Ridge residents are a nice mix of Amish, Mennonite and English. Mennonite Nora owns a local consignment store and invites Loretta to consign her rag rugs. This leads to her widowed father, Cornelius to be even more disgruntled and ugly with each passing day. There is literally no joy in the Riehl home to be found. Cornelius definitely has his demons and is found out by the Amish church leadership. The church leaders handle this in such a way that he is responsible for his own repentance (much better than the shunning in most Amish novels). New commerce coming to the area in the form of an English gentleman round out the busy community that centers around the consignment shop and cafe. A delightful read!

A SIMPLE WISH by Charlotte Hubbard. Book # 2 "Simple.Gifts"
Loretta and Will are rehashing what her Dad had done to break them up.
Will further messed up by getting involved with Molly and her parents were anxious to get her married. Now he's left with twins, and trying to mend things. She moved on with another suitor Drew, or was that also a risky mistake. He deceived people also, and was a guarded newcomer. Drew feeels like they have a lot in common, and Loretta is wanting adventure.
This was a powerful story of young people, who have been deceived and trying to figure out their own lives. You will feel the emotions of each one, and wonder who will wind up with who. Readers will love this book, and will want to stay with it to the end. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

Willow Ridge is a place where one can start over with the help of the town without judgement.

Loretta and her sister Rosalyn are still living at home with their Dat after Edith gets married. Loretta wants nothing more than to find the love of her life but first she has to deal with Will, her ex-fiancé. Will, has moved to Willow Ridge to get a fresh start after the death of his wife. Can Loretta and Will put their past behind them and find love again or will a new suitor sweep her off her feet?

I enjoyed visiting Willow Ridge again and following the Reihl sisters through all the ups and downs is a true joy. Hubbard continues the mystery with the girls Dat which makes the book very meaty. I hope there is a third one coming soon.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington for an advance copy in exchange for a review in my own honest words.

The second book in the series A Simple Wish brings us back to Willow Ridge. Willow Ridge is a town known for forgiving and getting a new start. However, can they survive when a huge sin comes to light?

Loretta Riehl is happy making her rugs for Simple Gifts but she would be even more happy if she could find someone to love. When two men start to vie for her attention, will Loretta be able to choose? And when one is former bad boy, Drew Detweiler, will her dad approve? Speaking of her father, why does the he make frequent trips to Kansas City? And why does his mood get more surly with each passing day?

I love how the community comes together to help one another. Charlotte Hubbard brings us back to the simple life and love in Willow Ridge. I received a copy through Netgalley. The review was not required.

I simply can't say enough kind things about Charlotte's books. They draw you in right away and you can't help but push aside everything else to read them: her characters are so real; her settings are so beautifully described; you feel that sense of community right from the start. Perhaps the best part of picking up a book by Charlotte Hubbard is she has such a strong sense of genre and what her fan base enjoys that she delivers a great story every time.

With the Simple Gifts series she has created new successes and new challenges for the residents of Willow Ridge. While certainly a stand alone novel, the reader will get a rounder picture if they read the first book in the series before this one.

Pick up a copy of A Simple Wish to find out what the people of Willow Ridge have been up to.

A Simple Wish is the continuation of the Riehl’s family; this one being centered a round Loretta. Drew Detweiler twin is married to Edith Riehl, which has an advantage for the Riehl’s sisters. There’s plenty of action and some tense moments with Cornelius Riehl, who is also the deacon for the community. There’s plenty of family drama when Loretta decides to work in the Simple Gifts shop because Cornelius was controlling of his daughters. Hubbard’s writing style was have readers turning the pages to see what is going to happen next in the Riehl family, members of Willow Ridge and one of their church leaders.

I was not required to write a review, but have shared my own thoughts.

I enjoyed this continuation of the Riehl sisters' story. I think that Loretta and Drew were actually quite well matched, and though their romance felt a bit on the quick side for my preference, I do understand that many Plain people choose to have an abbreviated courtship time period.
And then there's Cornelius, Loretta's dat . . . As with others in this story, as well as in the previous one, I had my suspicions that he was up to something not so good, but the reality of it was actually quite heartbreaking.
I'm intrigued to find out what happens with Rosalyn's story, especially since her potential love interest seems to be a bit . . . challenging.

This is a sweet story. It was quite a contrast to the Amish Fiction books I've read though. I wasn't expecting some of the drama in this book. It feels off in Amish Fiction. Nonetheless it was a nice story. Well-written. I didn't read the other books in the series but it wasn't hard to follow along although I wish I could have read them (or it) to better understand the story.

This is a continuing story of the Amish residents of Willow Ridge, it was ok as a stand alone but would be better if you read them in order. Loretta makes rugs and decides to break out of her father's grim outlook on life and work at a craft store. Drew came to town under a cloud but has been forgiven and starts courting Loretta. Drew finds out a horrible secret about Loretta's father and the family has to move on.
