An army of shape-shifters plague the local salmon run, stealing villagers from the banks of the river to join their ranks. When Mira loses her brother she must set out on a magical quest few would dare mark, pursuing the salmon upstream to save her family.
I loooveee the art style it’s super sweet and charming. As well as the attention to detail that is in all Peow books. The rounded corners are meant to resemble the rounded “beak” that salmon have in real life!!
However, the story was a bit hard to follow. I think the concept is super creative and interesting but I just wasn’t actually very engaged while reading. Like another reviewer said, I would have loved to see this in a series.
The art style is really charming, and the story is very unique but neither have room to breathe. I would love to have seen this over the course of 4 or 5 books this length. The dialogue is a little heavy handed at times, but overall a neat read.
Bonus points for the physical book being a little on the small side with rounded corners.
The drawing style was great –though confusing at some point– but the story felt truly hard to follow. Maybe I didn't read it at the best time or I wasn't too focused on it, but it felt rushed, confusing and incongruous.
