I have been enjoying this series of cozy mysteries. Kelly the owner of a breakfast diner is married to the sheriff in a small community in Oregon. Unfortunately, for her husband 's sake Kelly is constantly placing herself in the line of danger by " helping " her husband solve murder cases. Being dog lovers, Kelly and Mike have three dogs that charm the cast of characters as well as the reader. This was a fast paced adventure, finding Kelly flying solo in Boston, after her husband was called back to work at the Sheriff's office. Good diversion from home town gang.
Murder On The East Coast by Dianne Harman I am not enjoying this Cedar Bay cozy mystery at all. The author has read somewhere that you must show not tell. So instead of long passages of explanatory text we get long passages of explanatory dialogue.
The comments made when a couple is speaking to each other, are things they would have actually known anyway.
The writing is stilted and while the plot is Interesting, at this point there is no character development at all. In fact very little to help us understand the characters.
And character is what we read books for. Plot is way way down the list.
I always enjoy the books written by Dianne Harman and this one was no different. I enjoy that they are clean reading and that they are a mystery. In this one Kelly solved the case on her own with very little help from her husband. On my reviews I don't like to give away too much of the story because I feel like the fun of reading a mystery is finding out what happens on your own. This story takes place in the North East Coast and deals with a family that has wealth. If you enjoy reading mysteries without bad language or sex then you will enjoy this book and others by Dianne Harman.
Kelly and her husband go to the graduation of a friend and her friend who has no one there for her. When Julia is found dead in her hotel room it is up to Stephanie to notify Julie's grandmother but as the woman is very elderly and has cancer Stephanie prevails upon Kelly to be the one to go to Boston and notify her in person. Kelly gets involved with finding out who murdered Julie and travels the country to do so. What a ride!
Kelly and Mike fly to Virginia to watch a dear friend graduate from college and that night another friend is brutally murdered. Kelly becomes involved with the murdered woman's family as they try to track down the murderer. Another excellent book by Dianne Harman! From Virginia to Boston to Maine, back to Boston, then off to Portland, Oregon as Kelly follows tge clues. You will really enjoy this book as well as the Cedar Bay series.
A trip to Virginia for the PhD presentation for a good friend quickly becomes a murder investigation when one of the other students is found dead. Kelly and Sheriff Mike Reynolds are not satisfied with the local investigators findings and neither is the victim’s dying grandmother. When she begs Kelly to solve the murder, how can she refuse?
The plot twists and turns from coast-to-coast in this well-written cozy mystery.
Kelly and Mike are excited to head off to Virginia to see a friend graduate. They didn’t expect that someone close to their friend would be found murdered. When a relative asks Kelly to help, Kelly finds herself traveling all over to see what she can find out. It seems like there are a lot of suspicious characters, some questionable family members, and hidden secrets. I enjoyed the characters. And I like how the author always dies the storyline where there are more than one possible suspect.
This was the first book I have read in this series and I found it very enjoyable. An intriguing story of the murder of a wealthy woman. I found the characters to be likeable and easy to relate to and the storyline was very intriguing. There were several characters that could have been suspects and I was kept guessing as to who the killer could have been. I look forward to reading more books in this series!
Again I enjoy the Cedar Bay series so I am prejudiced in their favor. This story was a very fast read. Great for a lazy afternoon! Kelly will always find a mystery to solve, but her husband doesn't have much to do. He is back on the West Coast. Light reading, but always plausible.
This was book 11 in the Cedar Bay cozy mystery series. When Kelly and her husband travel to Norfolk for a graduation ceremony of a dear friend, little do they know it will end in murder. Kelly takes on this case that takes her from Boston to Maine and back to Portland before she solves it. Such a quick and easy read for a Sunday afternoon!
This was a very good (excellent) book. Had me waiting at every turn how it was going to end. Highly recommend it to anyone who loves mysteries. On to another Diane Harman book.
Really sad about her own brother killing her, but pretty cool the the daughter and grandmother will get a chance to know each other. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
Interesting locations, characters and mysteries are the what you can expect from a book by this prolific author. Thank you once again Ms Harman for a dependable good read!
I liked the main character and her tenacity to keep looking for the real murderer. Nice vibe between her and her husband the sheriff of Cedar Bay. Enough twists too keep me reading. I will be reading !Moore of this series.
I like Dianne’s writing and the characters. I like Kelly and Mike and their relationship. I think that’s why I continue to read the series. It’s their relationship along with that of the one they have with their animals. And the recipes.
A friend of a friend of Kelly is murdered. For her friend, and out of compassion for the victim's mother, Kelly takes on the case. This story has a lot of heart and emotion.
I am completely convinced that Kelly and Sheriff Mike are never going to get any rest and relaxation. No matter where they go they find themselves immersed in solving a murder. This time it happens after a doctoral graduation~
I read this because I was challenged to read a book with a five word title. I found it to be a very simplistic mystery, and would have to say it was written along the lines of a Nancy Drew book. I feel it is meant for young readers.
Interesting murder mystery starting at a graduation which ends in murder. There are great characters throughout. Luckily for Kelly, she doesn't go alone near the end or she probably wouldn't have survived. Nice ending for all.
Kelly our heroine goes to a friend's graduation in Boston. While there ,her friend has another friend who is murdered. Can Kelly successfully solve the murder in a place she doesn't know?
I could not put this book down. Read it in one night. The characters are interesting and believable. Lots of suspects and good food. What a great combination
This Series is a great read, entertaining and it does hold your interest. A little small but still very good. Very easy to read in one sitting. Great reading everyone!
