Laura has been tortured by a secret. A secret she thinks she can never reveal. She is being charged with murder and framed for other killings in the area that she denies. Laura knows her secret must come out but fears no one will believe her. She is taken into custody by the police when found at the scene of the crime, she denies killing anyone. But, she knows who did. She must never tell her secret. The police have reason to believe she is mentally unstable because of something she said while being questioned. Instead of letting her go they place her in the care of the metal ward of the local hospital with the hopes that they will get the truth out of her. She now fears her secret may come out. Dr. Kelly Marshall, the psychiatrist now in charge of Laura has a lot of experience in her field and is confident she can get the truth out of her. But when Laura stays silent and refuses to tell her anything, Dr. Marshall gets frustrated and the only option is to call in a hypnotherapist. She calls in Ms. Natasha Brown to help with the case and thinks once she is under hypnosis Laura will have no choice but to confess and tell the truth. They find out what really happened to Laura, and it is more than they both had anticipated. Through hypnosis, they find out what is going on in Laura's mind and trace back to the day that changed her life forever. She is tortured by a spirit she claims took over her mind and body. Dr. Marshall doesn't believe her at first but Ms. Brown convinces her that Laura must be telling the truth after listening to her stories while under hypnosis. Now it is their job to either help Laura rid herself of her demons or is she the real murderer? Is she uncontrollable and should she be put away forever?

J.B. Darroch

As a child J.B. Darroch loved to hide between the pages of a great book that could take her away to another place and time. Writing legends such as Stephen King and Anne Rice were her top picks, but she would never say no to Jane Austin or Emily Bronte. Anything that could make her feel part of the story is where she would love to be. Working for years in a meaningless job, she woke up one morning and realized where her passion lies. She started a new life as a writer. She gained the courage to write stories that she conjures up hoping to gain the attention of readers. When she is not writing, she likes to relax by knitting and crocheting. She also has a passion for writing Romance/Mystery novels. Her Romance/Mystery "Rebecca, A Journey To Scotland" is out now. New novel Laura, Hypnotic Redemption (a Paranormal Thriller) also available on Amazon.

J.B. Darroch lays out a most unusual murder trial in Hypnotic Redemption. Laura Stanton is being held for murder, a crime even she’s not sure she committed. A hypnotist is brought in to delve into her mind and reveal her secrets. The reveals in this book are great and kept pushing me forward to see what would be discovered next. This one’s a great page turner for you mystery lovers out there!

It's hard to give bad reviews on books for things not directly related to the story, but this book is heavily in need of both a developmental editor and someone who can format it.

The book itself was very difficult to read because there are no indentations for new paragraphs and for a few chapters, there was no spacing between paragraphs or lines of dialogue, so it was like a giant column of words on the page. It was much easier to read in certain chapters were there was a space to show that a new paragraph was starting or a new character was speaking.

Formatting aside, the book is trying to be told in first person. While this can be difficult to write, maybe dual perspective or third person would have worked better for this book. We are supposed to be listening to Laura's voice, but sometimes, Laura is in a trance under hypnosis or being sedated and technically asleep. While she is in a trance or asleep, the action still continues, sometimes down the hall of the hospital or even further away, at a church. I initially thought this was dual perspective that was just jumping around in the same chapter, but sometimes, there would be a sentence along the lines of "Dr. Marshall and Dr. Brown were talking about me" or I was used like we were still supposed to be listening to Laura's voice, even though she's not in the room.

The story itself is a good one, but I was frequently brought out of the story due to the formatting, jumping of tenses, and the uncertainty of who the narrator was supposed to be in certain sections, since the one that we are introduced to throughout the story is either not in the room, not in the building, is sleeping, or has no possible way of knowing what another character is thinking

HYPNOTIC REDEMPTION
J B DARROCH

Review by Author Roy Murry

The subject of multiple murders is pounding her head with her hands, screaming, "Get Out, Get Out." The police book her for the deaths of four people, and Laura, her name, is arraigned in court.

The problem is the police have no evidence - her fingerprints are not on the weapon in the murders. And, she says in hysterical ways, "I did not kill them."

Is she crazy, or does she know who killed them and will not say? The secret lies within her mind and body, which can only be revealed by a hypnotic examination.

What happens after that is a paranormal adventure which will keep your eyes pegged to the page - an entity is in control. This page-turner is a read I will not forget. It is haunting.

The story will keep you awake for a few hours but worth the time: an enjoyable suspenseful, fast read for those who believe or do not in the supernatural.
