Daring the Devil (Reigning Hell)

Rate this book
Hell hath no fury like its princess… Every sixteen-year-old thinks her mom is the Devil sometimes. But Kiera Morningstar’s mother really is the Queen of Hell. And she expects Kiera to earn her right to the throne by taking a soul. When Kiera fails—again—her mom banishes her from Hell to live among humans. At least, that’s what she wants Kiera to believe. When Kiera lands at Miss Molly’s School for Troubled Teens, she learns that someone is dead set on de-throning the Morningstars by any means necessary, including stealing the key and opening the Gates of Hell. Now, demons are free to roam the earth—and both Kiera and her mother are in danger. Even stripped of her powers, Kiera refuses to be a meek princess. With the help of angels, saints, and an oddball group of human friends, she sets out to recover the key and close the gates. But what she finds instead could change Heaven, Hell, and everything in between. DARING THE DEVIL is Game of Thrones meets The Godfather meets The Exorcist--get your copy now for a Hellish good time!

4.5/5.

Full of humor, action and emotion, Daring the Devil was an unexpectedly delightful read. The characters I loved to love and loved to hate. The romance, whilst modest, left me wanting more. The depiction of hell was a fun romp.

A bit cheesey at times, but the cheese really worked for it.

Thank you Larry and Loucks for providing me with the opportunity to read this as an ARC. I really wasn't sure what to expect going in, but am very glad that I gave this book a chance, and looking forward to getting my paws on the next book in the series.

That cliffhanger though!

I am new to these authors and I wasn’t sure what to expect when I read this book. In point of fact, I didn’t even know the book was a YA book; I just really liked the look of the cover. Well, I have to tell you that this book was a pleasure to read! It was well-written, the plot interesting, and it was hard to put down. Yes, there were times it was a little over the top, but those times made the book even more fun than it already was. I found Kiera/Kasey to be a sheltered demon, but not without smarts, someone who didn’t know much about the world (any of them), but wasn’t TSTL, and I really enjoyed her dealing with her exile to Earth. One thing I also really enjoyed was how her and her friends came to be friends. There were even a few points where I was surprised by events (can’t say too much as I don’t want to spoil it), and I’m not easily surprised. All-in-all, this was an extremely fun read and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next one! Highly recommend!

A highly enjoyable paranormal read I could not put down with an unexpectedly lovable and some how relatable heroine. As a princess of hell and heir apparent to the throne, Keira sucks at claiming souls. Her empathy and apparent lack of evil causes her to leave souls unclaimed for minor things like owning corgis. A disappointment to her mother, she goes even farther occasionally and grants wishes without claiming souls. Her mother, the devil, banishes her to Earth in the life of a non-magical juvenile delinquent where trouble and demons just seem to follow. New friends, a few angels, a little love interest, and unexpected betrayals make the pages fly by for an addictive read that left my hands itching to get a hold of book two. A wonderful start to a new series! My voluntary review is based upon an advanced review copy.

A unique read!

The Princess of Hell - a princess who cannot collect a soul...
A princess who is banished to Earth as punishment...
A princess who, at the end of the day, needs to save Hell, Earth and her mum, the Queen of Hell...
Or else, damnation for all in Hell, Earth and Heaven.

I loved this take on Hell/Lucifer - instead of a him, there is a Queen and a Princess of Hell. I absolutely adored this fresh and unique take of Hell (and Heaven) - the history and the family dynamic. Really enjoyable read from a new, refreshing and welcoming perspective - a teen Princess of Hell.

Filled with demons, Hell, angels, souls, humour, banishment, powerless, danger and a hint of romance.

Perfect for readers of paranormal romance/urban fantasy.

Daring The Devil is a really fun and enjoyable read. It portrays Hell in a way I have never seen before and it was a refreshing story. At the core it is a coming of age story about the Devil's (who is female) daughter, Keira. I loved the relationships that Keira made through out her journey of finding herself and trying to do the right thing for everyone involved. I will definitely be buying Book 2 when it is released. I am invested in these characters and I am excited to see where their story goes.

Daring the devil, Reigning Hell Book One by Natasha Larry/Lindsay Loucks.

This is a young adult paranormal that I would recommend to anyone and any age. Being over 50, I still truly enjoyed it.  It opens with a bang and keeps going til the end.   It was a quick read, with a good plot, lots of twists, suspense and demons.  Well done. 5 stars. I look forward to book 2.

She's a princess of Hel, but for her, this place is different than for us - it's Kiera's home.
What will happen to her when her mother will banish her from Hel?
This read was surprising and enjoyable.
I want to read book 2!

Unique, funny, and suspenseful take on Hell. Kiera is the Princess of Hell and has to take souls to one day be Queen. Yet, she can’t do it and is banished from Hell to live on the Nest - otherwise known as Earth - as a troubled teen.

No spoilers.

Just read it!

What's a girl to do when she's the Princess of Hell? Collect souls of course! Unfortunately for Kiera, she's just not into taking souls. But after another failed attempt to make her mom (The Queen of Hell) proud, Kiera finds herself in juvie hall instead of back in Hell...trying to unravel how she got there, who can be trusted, and how to get back to Hell. Great YA fantasy. Definite must read for all YA fans.

I love this paranormal story for the non-traditional point of view of Hell. Kiera is the princess and she's in a lot more trouble than she realizes when she is banished by her mother, The Devil. She ends up on Earth a school for troubled teens. Along the way she does make some good friends, just before the real trouble begins. I am anxious for book 2.

A fast-paced thrilling fantasy adventure that leaves you begging for more. I enjoyed the story and the characters as well. It was a different and entertaining take on demons and the devil.
I definitely recommend this to paranormal fantasy fans.

It was sooo good! I presents the whole 'daughter of hell' thing quite differently from what I'm used to. In a way, to me, Kiera is a contradiction  (in a good way I promise). She doesn't act like she's expected to, in either scenario she's involved. It's like she has her own category and it's making her own way with her own rules. The book was interesting, a little bit sweet, funny, and touched a bit some serious themes. Totally looking forward to the next one of the series!

Kiera Morningstar is the princess of Hell.

In order to secure her right of succession to the throne, she must reap a soul from the "nest" aka Earth. Her problem? She can't bring herself to do it..... When she fails for the third time, her mother banishes her to Earth without her powers.

She becomes Kiera Morrison, a troubled teenager one step away from being sent to a juvenile detention centre.

This is definitely a riches to rags story with a very different spin on it.

Overall, it was a great introduction for this series and I got a fair few laughs out of it as well.

I would recommend this to anyone who likes the YA Urban Fantasy/Paranormal genres.

I was gifted a copy of this which I voluntarily read in exchange for an honest review.
