I've always loved John F. Hayes adventure series of Canadian historical fiction, read with the understanding that these were written from a 1950's era view. The protagonists are always young men with strong father figures experiencing the dangers or adventures of war or frontier life in Canada's early years.
Good adventure story for youth about life in mid 1700's NS. Lots of sailing and ship jargon. Also those who are familiar with the history of NS and the Acadian Expulsion, this book, I found brings into play the "what if?" as in, what if my english soldier father married my Acadian father and how would that affect me?
