Arrow is now a Special, wanted by the police for murder and for the illegal use of magic, even though she's innocent of the former and feels justified for the latter. But it's too late to plead her case. She's thrown her lot in with the magic criminals of the Sinistera Hotel and, like them, she's doing the strange jobs assigned to her by the mysterious hotel manager, Mr. Tower.
Her latest job, stopping a guest accused of assault, rubs her the wrong way. It feels like a set-up, and if there's one thing Arrow knows how to sniff out, it's deception. Skeptical of The Architect's claims that the job is what it appears to be, Arrow begins to investigate, and unravels the threads of a plan to kill the hotel's most deadly resident: the vampire Count Ionesceau. Most want him dead, so the list of suspects is a mile long, but Elliott declares his intention to protect the vampire, even if it pits him against Sheridan.
Conspiracies are everywhere.
With deadly confrontations looming, Arrow learns more about the ice demons from her grandmother, who is gradually recovering her memories of the war. Her grandmother hints that Dr. Febrero wasn't the only scientist working for the military and that one in particular directed the demons. Tracking down this second scientist proves to be difficult until Arrow finds a trail that leads her in an unexpected direction: back to the Sinistera Hotel. Suspicious of everyone she's supposed to trust, Arrow might find herself alone as she faces the dual dangers of a vicious vampire and a cruel, demented scientist.
Vertigo Vampire is the exciting second book in The Specials!

Vertigo is an apt description for this 2nd installment of The Specials.
Tricia Owens keeps the reader reeling with this 2nd installment of The Specials. As someone who actually suffers from vertigo I can say with utmost sincerity that this plot is a veritable treasure trove of twists & turns that go up, down, & sideways. It knocks you off balance in the beginning & keeps you in that lurching, grasping state right through to the epilogue which leaves you spinning from the giant drop of the cliffhanger for book 3, Light Strike, which is "coming soon" as of Sept 2017.
Ms. Owens does an amazing job of enhancing the main characters, filling out their back stories giving you more insight into what makes them tick. Conspiracy theorists of any type will love all the intrigue that abounds in the "government cover up" of all things to do with The Drowning (war). The stranglehold that the government has on the media, the "Misinformation" laws which will land you in jail for daring not to agree with the "Official" version of the events leading up to, during, and after the war itself. It makes the Kennedy Assassination and the Apollo Mission conspiracies look tame in comparison.
I can't wait to read book 3, Light Strike, when it comes out. I'm also loving the fact that "The Specials" series is part of The Kindle Unlimited or Prime Reading libraries on Amazon.com. It makes reading these series affordable and easier to use than my local county library app. Which is really saying something as our Alachua County Library System, in North Central Florida is truly amazing.
Bottom line, however you do it, get this series and read it. You will immediately get caught up in Arrow's world with all her fellow "Special" employees at the Sinistera Hotel as they fight the good fight to find the truth & clean up some very dangerous loose ends leftover from the war.
The second book in the series and it starts right where Demon Leap left off. It is fast paced and action filled book with lots of twists and turns. Arrow discovers more truth about the war and we get more background of the people and events happening in the hotel. This book would make a great tv series. I look forward to reading the next book.
Non stop adventure Arrow is awesome, Non stop adventure as Arrow settles into her role as head of security. But is not willing to just take her bosses word for granted and has to investigate why everything is happening within the hotel. Slowly Arrow is getting more Specials to realise she isn't working against them but with them. What an awesome read
I liked this book better than the first one and it was nearly a five star read for me. I feel like this series is building to something great and can't wait to see where it goes.
A great read. Can’t wait for the next installment. Excellent! The characters are believable, the storyline flowing. Definitely has my full recommendation.
The second book in the series continues the story from the first book and jumps straight back into the action. Arrow has a fresh mystery to solve while still trying to find concrete evidence of the government's dirty dealings. Her life and her job are complicated by her friends and enemies because it is not at all clear which is which, apart from Elliott who is just the sweetest thing ever and Wolfgang who is just splendid all round. Not knowing exactly where each character stands makes the story more interesting, and finding out their histories and motivations, interwoven seamlessly with the current mystery, pulls you into Arrow's world even further. I raced through this book and the only complaint I have is it was too short. Don't get me wrong, there was no cliffhanger and the story did not need to be longer (and would have to be padded to lengthen it, or include more history that I am sure will come out in later books), I just wanted more because I was enjoying it so much. I received an ARC from the author but I voluntarily decided to review this and the views are my own.
