Lover in Hell

Rate this book

One last night in hell…

Ever since the Z-virus wiped out humanity, Eden spends her days rescuing animals from the undead and her nights avoiding Mike—the sexy alpha male soldier who wants to claim her for his own. He’s too intense, dominating, and overprotective—everything Eden doesn’t want in a man. Even worse, his smoldering gaze weakens her resolve to swear off men forever. But when a routine supply run goes horribly wrong, the unthinkable happens—Eden becomes infected. Now, trapped for the night with Mike, and with only twenty-four hours left to live, Eden must decide if she wants to die a virgin or experience mind-blowing passion in the arms of a man who would follow her to hell.

This 18K+ word novella occurs before the events of the Heaven in Hell series and can be read as a standalone.

I've read the rest of the books in this series so I was excited to read about Eden. This little novel did not disappoint, giving the much needed details about her relationship with Mike and the events that unfolded before the first episode of Heaven in Hell. Although it is a standalone it's helpful to have read Heaven Before Hell before this one.

I have to admit it is a little heartbreaking because I know what happens in the future but I still really enjoyed the interaction between the two and their budding romance. As always the author knows how to weave a tale of terror and romance, horror and erotic content. There's a sweetness to Mike and Eden's relationship in the midst of total and complete chaos. And the excitement of the Biters and zombie attacks are always well written and descriptive. My only problem is that I wish the book was longer. Would have been great to learn more about the training with the soldiers and life in the apocalypse.

I LOVE the author and this series. I will read them all. If you like dystopian novels, zombies or horror, or paranormal romance, you will LOVE these!!! 5 erotic action filled and heart pounding stars!

I have not read this series so the characters were all unknowns for me -
that being said - I am definitely grabbing this series
This was a quick novella but it was packed with so much!
Action - check
Angst - check
Heat - oh yeah
Suspense - in spades
There are a lot of scenes and references that I have questions about - because this is a prequel I believe I will find my answers when I read the series
The "romantic" scenes left a bit to be desired as far as dialogue - but I honestly fell that may be a result of this being a novella
I grabbed this on Kindle Unlimited

This was a short prequel to a series, but it did make me interested in picking up the rest of the books. Zombies here are sort of a combination of different zombie movies, but the Howler was an interesting addition. I'd be interested to see how the howlers play in later books.

There were also little hints dropped that characters might not be exactly who they seem. I'd be interested to see why Mike said he was older than he looked and had THAT in his pocket at the end. (No, I won't tell you what it is. You'll have to read it.)

The ending left me with several questions, but I know it's part of a series and will be answered later

Not my usual read. That being said, the author managed to capture my attention with a relatable heroine and a delicious mix of erotic romance, post-apocalyptic suspense, and just the right amount of gore befitting to the genre. The zombies didn't hurt either! Mike, the male MC managed to be protective over Eden, without being overbearing, which I can appreciate --so tired of the whole damsel in distress trope *yawns*. Will read more from this author!

Lover in Hell began with an awesome zombie fight in a car repair shop where a zombie called The Howler literally rips a man's head off. During the brawl, Eden is infected and suspects she only has 24 hours to live. Together she and Mike, a zombie fighting soldier, hole up together in an abandoned home while Eden recovers. There they explore their attraction to one another while dealing with the dilemma of Eden's infection.

I enjoyed this story and especially the way that the characters were written. There was zombie action. Eden was not the typical oh so innocent, fluttery eyed virgin. She was open about her desires and needs. Mike was not the cliche dominant must coddle the virgin dude. He also was open about what he wanted from Eden both physically and emotionally.

The adult content in this book is blunt, realistic, and refreshingly written meaning it's not just sex for the sake of sex to entertain some horny or fantasy-ridden, daydreaming reader. It's penned as an equal exchange of pleasure between two very direct adults who care for one another.

And I believed wholeheartedly that Eden was 19. Why? Kitties and Zombies...

"Mike gave me an incredulous look. 'After what we just went through you’d want to go back for a cat?'

I balled my blood-encrusted fists against the
sheets. 'I have to.' "

It wasn't even her damn cat. Ha!

Overall:

This is a short story but the plot felt all romance. There are times I almost wanted to roll my eyes, but never quite did - this book walks that line. Eden is almost silly in her love of animals but actually in makes sense. In desperate times, it could see someone wanting to hold onto their humanity when the world goes to Hell. Mike was very much a strong male who wanted to continually protect Eden.

The writing style is interesting and very easy to read. I actually really enjoyed the author's writing style. The zombies are creepy and the author does a great job weaving them in as a subplot. This book did leave me wanting...but almost too much. It just sort of ends abruptly, which felt like - 'okay the romance is done...story over.' That being said there were lots of hints of other issues that could be explored in a sequel (I won't name them, but there were at least three that I found).

Easy to read in one sitting with action and steamy scenes...I only wish it hadn't ended so abruptly.

Fair warning: I'm a guy, so I'm looking at this book from a more logical perspective.

The story is well written, I like the author's style. There's action for those who are not looking for just the romantic parts. The scenes are set up quite well: we always know where we are, who's where, who's doing what.

What I missed was a little more about what is going on in the world. What is this virus? Where did it come from? How many survivors are there out in the world? What's happening to save them? Why are there two different types of zombies?

SPOILER ALERT! What made the story unbelievable for me was the fact that the world is dying, people are fighting for their lives, while oh, there actually IS a cure, and people are actually carrying it around with themselves. But nobody seems to care about it at all. This very quickly brought me back to the real world from the novel world. If there is one suggestion I could make, it would be this. This seemed very out-of-place, and for me, it ruined the feeling of the story.

Overall it's a good work, I can imagine a lot more happening to the main characters -- both romantically and action-wise.

I rated this one a 3.7 ( rounded to a 4), because it's a a little short read, that you would expect more answers to in the Heaven in Hell Episodes, and yet, you don't get too much completion from both of these characters. Still, the read was enjoyable all the same. Here, you meet Eden and Mike, in a post apocalyptic world and learn some of their story. Of course, I wanted to know more, at the end, but no spoilers from me. You kind of have to read this one, before the Heaven in Hell Episodes 1-8, to completely understand timelines and events, at least that was the case for me. You won't regret it though, if you like hot steamy romance and of course, the ever present zombies that are found in the best post apocalyptic books. I only hope there is a future set of episodes for these two characters because I still want answers!

This is the 1st book I’ve read and reviewed for Dia Cole and it was a fantastic read. I’m usually a big fan of apocalypse books but this one pulled me in from the start. Once the Z virus had decimated the human race, Eden spends her days saving animals from the zombies who are really hungry. That there is what pulled me in to read this book. I liked Edens and Mikes chemistry they both know what they want from each other, there’s an accident and Eden is bitten and she believes that she has only 24 hours to live before she turns into the un- dead. I really liked the horror and suspense but the story was just a tad too short but I enjoyed it anyway. I will be keeping my eyes open for more from this author and I recommend this book to anyone that loves zombie apocalypse books.

I always enjoy it when authors weave sub-stories into their main events, and this quick read is no different. Eden and Mike's short-lived love affair blossoms on the pages, making you smile for them, but breaking your heart at the same time - because you already know what happens to poor Eden.
Miss Cole, you're taking me on a roller coaster ride and I love it.

Was never really a fan of dystopian books, but this one was absolutely incredible! I found the writing fluid and very well done. The love story is an added bonus to what is going on around them! I couldn't even imagine being in a situation like that, but the writer was able to put me right in the middle of it. Loved this book and wouldn't even hesitate to buy another from this author.

2.5 stars.

Ends at 84%. I don’t think this is really necessary to read, but it gives an insight as to how Eden got bitten and the rest is sex and zombie killing. Good but not great but I like the writing and I’m glad I didn’t read this one first or I might not have been so eager to continue. An ok stand alone.

This is the second story about zombies that I've read, the first being "heaven before hell". This story was really good. It's about Lee's sister Eden, and a soldier called Mike. Also there's a new type of zombie in this story. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up

I really liked this book. It was very short but still kept captured my attention. Am not really into zombie books but this one was decent enough to have me wanting to read more about these characters and see their story play out.

This is a quick read but very enjoyable. Eden is trying to help Mike with a mission, but the zombies are a really problem. There is lots of action.
