We need a replanting movement. A movement where God uses ordinary pastors, church leaders, and lay people to bring declining and dying churches back to life. A movement where churches which once lacked a hope, even a pulse, become outposts of replanting themselves. A movement that mobilizes God’s people behind this shared purpose for God's glory. A movement where God does what only He can do. We need a replanting movement. In Replant Roadmap, Mark Hallock will help you begin to think through the “why’s” and “how’s” of replanting dying congregations, helping them to experience renewed hope and revitalization. The need for replanting healthy, gospel-centered churches is greater than ever. What role will you and your church play? "Mark Hallock is one of the most important voices in this unprecedented need in the modern day to revitalize dying churches. This book is proof of that and demonstrates the rare gift of this proven practitioner not only to assess replanting, but how to do it effectively. This gem is unwaveringly biblical as well as immensely practical. Replant Roadmap is sure to become the practical how-to guide to lead this next generation into this noble work. I heartily commend the author and this excellent book!" - Brian Croft, Senior Pastor, Auburndale Baptist Church; Senior Fellow, Church Revitalization Center, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary "Mark Hallock is a seasoned and respected veteran at replanting churches. This replanting work is a valuable and critical strategy for furthering the gospel and bringing new life into once thriving churches. Having led or personally participated in several church replants, I commend Mark’s book to you as a valuable roadmap in replanting." - Brian Howard, Network Director - U.S. West, Acts 29 Church Planting Network "I’m so thankful for what God is doing through Mark Hallock! Replant Roadmap is the real deal written to help restore His glory to many tired, broken churches. I pray God will use this book to lead your church to become a leader-developing, leader-deploying church that will do the same." - Jim Misloski, Developing Leader Catalyst, Missouri Baptist Convention "There is a need for more pastors like my friend Mark Hallock who has faithfully done the work of replanting churches. Pastors who are committed to their calling as replanters; men who are bringing gospel-centered life back to dying churches. The insights and wisdom of “Replant Roadmap” equip pastors to see gospel lighthouses that were once dim, burn brightly again for Christ in their communities. Mark brings personal and practical steps to seeing Jesus continue to build and “replant” His church today. My hope is that many Legacy Churches and just as many Kingdom building churches will partner in this vision of the Replant Roadmap for the glory of God’s name to the ends of the earth." - Tyler Powell, Groups Minister, The Village Church, Flower Mound, TX; former Assessment Director, Acts 29 Church Planting Network "This is a book that meets an enormous – and immediate - need for the American Church in the early 21st century. Where many often see only despair and death in local churches, Mark Hallock sees the potential for new life, vibrant Gospel ministry and the extension of God’s kingdom. And this is not merely ministry theory; Pastor Hallock provides a field-tested strategy that actually works for re-planting churches. I can’t recommend Replant Roadmap enough!" - Dr. Scott Wenig, Professor of Applied Theology, Haddon Robinson Chair of Biblical Preaching, Denver Seminary
This book excites me and overwhelms me at the same time. Recently God has laid upon my heart a local church that I have been reaching out to because it is dying...then I saw this book, read the first 2 chapters and thought, "that is exactly what I want to do." EXCITEMENT! Then, Hallock starts to go into the nitty grotty details of how he thinks each little piece should be accomplished..and OVERWHELMING!
It is a great roadmap, hence I assume the name. I also think there is freedom HOW to implement everything he talks about. I think the depth of direction, not cutting corners, is very important, but I don't think the SBC and/or Acts 29 model is the only way. I have had positive and negative interactions with both and I think much depends on the humbleness of the people you interact with.
Anyway, I hope the replanting movement takes off not just in our area, but in our world. We need revitalized churches who love Jesus with a passion. I am going to get my staff to read this and hopefully make a game plan for how we can not only help plant churches, but replant churches.
A helpful way forward for replanting churches. It is focused primarily on the relationship of a sending church to the replant. Yet, there is a lot of helpful information for the replant pastor and the replanted church to work through. The focus on relationships between the sending and replanted church is a significant contribution of Replant Roadmap. No church can plant or replant alone. Planting needs to be carried out in community. Ideally, a replant works in relationship with both a denomination and partnering churches.
Hallock's work encouraged me to focus more on discovering and developing partnering churches. As we seek to replant our church we need others to come alongside of us. Ch. 11, Creating a Strategy for Support, was especially helpful. If every sending church did this the success rate for plants and replants would soar. May God raise up such mission-outward focused sending churches.
Very practical. My main knock is that I found it very particular in how to go about this. There is some very specific advice, given with a lot of force. I think I’ll be mining good ideas from the book, but am debating if the specific model advocated is one I’m on board with.
