As assistant director in an accounting firm, Heather Morris is at the top of her game. Her straight-laced colleagues wouldn’t believe the secrets she hides: her wild teenage past, work-of-art tattoo and nipple ring.
Her orderly life veers off course when she’s approached at a wine tasting by an arrogant pretty boy with a dirty mind and a hardcore dangerous profession. She finds herself tempted to step outside her respectable façade for some well-deserved excitement.
Captain Jon “Tin Tin” Carlisle knows women. Loves women. One glimpse of the nipple ring under Heather’s conservative blazer lights up all his instincts. He’s stumbled upon a rare treasure: an exotic beauty with a sexy laugh and a taste for dares. After a red-hot hour of roulette, their simmering attraction bursts into an exploration of mutual passion that tests even Jon’s erotic limits. Soon he craves something he’s never desired before. More. But for Heather, more means trusting, and trusting leads to trouble.
Now Jon must decide if the best sex of his life is worth chancing his heart on a woman who shields hers so well.
Katie Porter was the award-winning writing team of Carrie Lofty and Lorelie Brown, who began as friends and critique partners in 2007. They established a shared pseudonym to explore their mutual interest contemporary romance and eroticism. Before Lorelie's passing in 2023, they published twelve novels and two short stories. From fighter pilots to ballroom dancers, all of their characters enjoy very sexy, very happy endings.
So, basically this book is my entire bag of catnip rolled up in a JGL-inspired wrapper. A hero who can rock a bespoke three-piece suit AND a white t-shirt and jeans AND a flight suit AND knows how to take charge and submit in bed? I die of perfection.
Jon meets Heather over a sexy game of roulette at a casino, and a series of escalating dares leads to them having the hottest hotel room hookup weekend ever. They both live and work in Las Vegas, and they reconnect when Jon sends Heather perfect birthday flowers (matching her hidden tattoo). While they both are obviously gone for each other, both have very severe hangups over feeling worthy of love and of being abandoned, so they fight their feelings the entire story, while continuing to bang it out.
There is a LOT of sex in this book. So much sex. But, I never felt like it was gratuitous. Each time Jon and Heather connect, it furthered their romance to another level, whether they knew it or not.
PS> if you enjoy p*gging, well, this isn't *quite* that, butt you'll see ;)

If you don't read any further into my review just know this: If you are not reading Katie Porter you are missing out on some seriously hot books! I thought after finishing DOUBLE DOWN that this series had started out on a really high note with a lot of originality and that it would be hard to keep up with that note. Which is why I went into reading INSIDE BET without expecting much of it. And boy was I wrong!
INSIDE BET had me from page one. I started this and couldn't put it down, literally. The story is great, the characters are even better and the sex? Well...lets just say that this book will leave you reaching for a vibrator or your significant other...at the very least will have you biting down on your knuckles and needing a cigarette afterwards. And note that I don't even smoke.
I think anytime you can make a hero as delicious as Jon Carlisle you already won half the battle. If you like the rich and powerful type, he's your guy; if you like military men, he's your type. If you have a thing for a man in a three piece suit, yep that's him. But he's also the guy in really nice jeans and a white tshirt with a jacket and sunglasses, or the extremely sexy guy in a military uniform. In case you need further explanation, Jon Carlisle is panty-melting hot! And he's not afraid to get a bit rough and dominant. Where has he been my whole life?
Of course the lucky girl that catches his eye, Heather Morris, is not so bad herself. She's smart, she's got her issues with her past but that doesn't immediately stop her from being with Jon. Their dares and extremely hot sex couldn't have happened if she hadn't been there to push the envelope. Together, these two are explosive!
Then there's also the friendship in Jon's group and the issues with Leah coming to a breaking point. I really can't wait to read the next book and finally find out what her story is and why she is so self-destructive.
Wow, as I finish this book that’s the first word that comes to my mind. I very much enjoyed Double Down the first book in this series, but this book is astounding. I was only four chapters in when I wrote on my Facebook page,” I love reading a book where the words flow so effortlessly that you forget you are reading; you are simply living the book.” That feeling continued all the way to the end and even though it is one hot, sexy read; it’s so much more. It’s about relationships of all kinds; friends, co-workers, family, and yes, lovers. This book will make you think, it will make you feel, and it will absolutely make you crave the next one.
Jon “Tin Tin” Carlisle is a captain in the U S Air Force. He’s also independently wealthy and not afraid to use it or show it. He flies F16′s and works in a training department with people who are closer to him than his family. To most of the world he seems like an arrogant playboy but his friends know better. He has a difficult relationship with his parents and because of this he doesn’t think he’s cut out for anything long term.
Heather Morris is a junior partner in an accounting firm. She grew up in a military household where there was little money for anything extra. She hit her teens with a vengeance and rebelled horribly. Luckily she lived to tell about it and she also repaired her relationship with her parents. But, the scars from that time run deep and she’s always afraid of falling back into that self destructive pattern.
These two characters are so different, yet so alike. They are also completely fascinating. Jon is such a contradiction; he tries to act aloof and non-caring but when it comes down to it, he’s the guy you call when you need help. He will always have your back through thick and thin and while he might give you a hard time about it, he does it from the heart. I love that despite his upbringing he really isn’t pretentious and he’s pretty down to earth. He’s loyal to a fault, he never lies, but yet he doesn’t ever tell the people that mean the most to him how he feels. Heather is smart and although she trusts Jon pretty much from the start, she doesn’t engage her emotions. She’s closed herself off because of her past and while she shares her body wholeheartedly with Jon, that’s all she allows him. She loves making him smile and lose control, something he prides himself on.
However, neither one will admit how much the other means to them. There is a lot and I do mean a lot of sex in this book. These two set the sheets, wall, window, coat closet, and basically ever other surface on fire. To be honest it wasn’t until I was finished with the book that I even realized how much sex these two really had because every encounter went to further the story, it wasn’t just sex for the fun of sex. Their encounters are very telling about who they are and what they both need.
Despite the sex, the verbal sparring, and even though these two are closed off this was still a very emotional book. I was completely drawn into it but it wasn’t only because of the relationship between Jon and Heather it was because of their relationships with their friends and family. The scene where these two finally get it together is one emotional mine field and I’ll warn you now, keep some tissues nearby because you’ll need them. Engaging characters, witty dialog, outrageous bets, and down and dirty sex that will leave you wishing for the same makes Inside Bet a must read book. The fact that this book is written by two different women under the pen name of Katie Porter astounds me; it’s that seamless, that flawless, and that flippin’ good!
Took me a while to complete this book. Loved the sex scenes but the conversation and inner thoughts just kept dragging on and on. Would read another in this series to see if I get a different feel off it.

'Tin Tin' Jon Carlisle is the loaded playboy who went into the Air Force to piss off his very rich parents. He's an expert at putting on a facade for the world to see. With a family history that includes the tragic death of his older sister in a car accident, and the subsequent emotional distance his parents provided after the loss of their daughter, Jon refuses to ask for the kind of emotional acceptance he secretly longs for. Instead he moves through this world showing everyone what they want to see, a carefree, seriously genius pilot, undying loyal friend, who is a shameless flirt with the ladies.
Heather Morris is a woman who is a few years older than Tin Tin, and she has an impeccable bullshit meter that Jon lights up like fireworks on the fourth of July. When Jon doesn't relent to her initial brush off, she becomes intrigued by his witty banter. And let me tell you people, the conversations between these two characters ranges from extremely humorous, slightly heart breaking, to slight frustration when you wish you had the kind of superpowers needed to reach into a book and slap around the main characters.
Jon and Heather start a hot, dangerous, and thrilling relationship that involves a whole lot of kinky sex with extreme themes, but lacks the kind of promises that Jon wishes Heather would offer him. This is a good read, and I give it a four wine glass toast! Enjoy naughty readers!
I should just post a bunch of fire emojis and be done with it. This is sexy AF, it's got some kink, domination issues, and Jon Carlisle is a man who loves to clean up after himself. Ahem.
Basically, this is a fighter pilot romance for those who wanted Top Gun with much more sex. Heather and Jon take a ONS and keep it going but the struggle is to realize when it became real for them. Really character driven. And yes, I was not disappointed. I loved that there's a solid story to follow up this tale, that these characters aren't just their hot sex, though I would warn for off-page SA/non-con/dubcon references that did not happen between these two characters.
I really liked this second story in this series. Jon and Heather were perfect together and sweet mercy, could these two put the kink in kinkaliscious. I loved that Heather was older (5 years), but it never was a factor in their relationship and in fact they never even talked about it. I enjoyed seeing Ryan and Cass from the first book and wanted to kick Leah's butt and was happy to see she was finally getting it together at the end of this story. Leah's story is next so I am anxious to see what makes her so messed up.

*Blurb taken from Goodreads*
E: I enjoyed reading the first of the Vegas Top Guns series, Double Down, and I was curious to see what the duo (who makes up Katie Porter) could come up with for their second installment, so I accepted their review request. Again, they did not let me down when it came to smoking hawt smex scenes. In fact, I actually ended up going o_O a few times as their scenes together progressed. While I enjoyed how Jon and Heather’s relationship was initially based only on a certain daredevil streak I found that at times it seemed as if they weren’t really part of the world. They did have friends and interacted with them but both Jon and Heather had done so much work making themselves into who they appeared to be that sometimes I got the feeling they didn’t know who they were and how to just be if it wasn’t involving sex.
Has: I have the first book in my TBR pile but this is my first Katie Porter/Vegas Top Gun book, and despite it being the 2nd book in the series it was easily readable without missing anything from the previous installment.
I totally agree with you about the hot sex scenes! I almost imagined my ereader was smoking because it was that hot. I loved the opening scenes with Heather and Jon daring and betting with each other sexually which was fun, sexy and very very intense. And I totally agree they created their own sensual little world where they explored each other and that their relationship was based on sex in the beginning. I was so drawn into their story that I lost track of time and was surprised how far I read.
E: Like you I was totally sucked into their world of dares and wanted to know what they could possibly come up with next. One of the things I enjoyed about their relationship together is that they took turns with the dares, and while they were dares, both parties reaped the benefits. They intended only to share a mutual pleasure not to humiliate or demean each other. I also liked their interaction with their friends. Having read the first book it was good to catch a closer look at the original three pilots, see how their dynamics changed with the addition of Cass. I was also curious to see if Leah was going to continue down her path of personal self-destruction. The scenes involving her were touching, poignant and full of some sort of backstory. She helped Heather understand a bit more about Jon and his persona which I thought was key to the success of that relationship.
Has: I will definitely be reading the first book soon to catch the nuance and the setup I missed. I loved the giving and taking love scenes between Jon and Heather. Sexually they were dynamite together and each encounter they had pushed up the ante for them, and I really enjoyed how it helped to shape their relationship in the beginning. But, over the course of the book I wished we saw more of the emotional development that Heather and Jon underwent, especially as it helped to crack their emotional walls. Although that evolved later towards the end of the book, I wished we saw more of that because I felt it was a bit of a sudden revelation for them both. Both Jon and Heather are closed off and afraid to open up emotionally, but focused on channeling that with sex which really heightened up the sexual tension. I felt a bit disappointed that this wasn’t explored as much. However, when it did towards the end it did strengthen the romance and I could believe they had strong feelings for each other and will be together long-term.
E: That is a good point Has. I do think a lot of their emotional development happened off screen so to speak for the majority of the book. I think the turning point was the scene in Heather’s office. When I initially read it I was furious at Jon and hurt for Heather but thinking back on it Heather needed to get jarred from her carefully constructed facade about who she was. You should not have to hide yourself to such an extreme that you seem to be living a double life. Likewise Jon’s caring only appeared evident when he was around his other two pilot buddies. The tension he had at work seemed to indicate that whatever his internal issues were they were going to come through one way or another and sex was no longer enough.
Has: And this is why I wished there was more on the emotional aspect of the book because it was so intense with how much they held inside and they both tried to suppress it or channel it via sex. But I did enjoy that scene because it felt that their emotional growth was finally evolving. I just wished it was developed a bit more. I did love how the romance was based on sex and that was a powerful element in the love story. Usually that wouldn’t work for me but the fun and playful nature along with the sexually intense love scenes, it was a powerful combination that made this a very enjoyable read – and you definitely will need a fan or the AC running when reading this book!
E: Forget the fan or AC go straight for the ice *grin*. Like you, I found that the combination of fun (Panda), playful yet at the same time extremely intense love scenes added to the complexity of the story. It was almost like each encounter both Jon and Heather gave everything they had because they were both so sure that no one would love them for who they really were. Porter did include subtle nuances throughout the story so while their decision to have more than a sex based relationship wasn’t a surprise there still seemed to be something tiny missing. Overall I enjoyed this read and I look forward to seeing what they have come up with next. I give Inside Bet a B.
Has: I will also be looking forward to the sequel as well as prequel books. Inside Bet was a sexy, earthy and very intense erotic romance which was filled with memorable love scenes. Even though I was slightly disappointed with the emotional growth of the characters, it was filled with real depth. I really enjoyed the book because it was sexy, fun and filled with a great cast of characters who were engaging and real.I inhaled it in one session! I highly recommend it if you like you’d like a charming flyboy with dimples and a heroine who knows how to challenge him!
The first book in this series, Double Down, was on my to-read list for a long time before I finally read it. I had some trepidation about reading it, because I have a pet peeve about the fact that almost no authors I've encountered paint an accurate or appealing picture of Vegas and what it's like to actually live there. As a 14-year, proud resident of the city, I get really tired of portrayals of Vegas that seem as if the author has never stepped foot in Nevada, or if they did, spent a few drunken days of the Strip and nothing else.
I was pleasantly surprised by Double Down. It seemed as if the authors knew Vegas better than average and gave a crap about acknowledging that actual human beings live and work and raise families here, a good many of us enjoy living here, and not all of us work on the Strip. With this knowledge, I felt good about going into Inside Bet.
I was pretty disappointed. A lot of this story reverted to stereotypes or misinformation. One, it's very unlikely Heather would live in a Craftsman bungalow. Craftsman-inspired, maybe, but not the real deal. Vegas was founded in 1905 and was still a dusty western town for much of the 20s and 30s. Most houses in Vegas were built after 1980. There are a few neighborhoods of vintage houses, but those are mid-century homes from the atomic testing era. Those houses are in the middle of the city, not on the outskirts like Heather's.
The thing that really bothered me was that they had to throw in a call girl. Prostitution is just as illegal in Vegas as it is in Phoenix, Albuquerque or San Bernardino, but god forbid Heather and Jon should go into a suburban burger joint without seeing a call girl, because Vegas. Yes, prostitution happens here, but it does in every major city. I don't expect to read mentions of call girls every time I pick up a book set in Seattle, New York or Chicago. Authors can't seem to help but turn to the tired old stereotypes when they write about Vegas.
So on to how I felt about the characters and the plot. The characters were hard to relate to and the plot was slow. The first 30% of the book is almost entirely sex or the foreplay leading to it. After that, it's just more of the same for chapter after chapter, with very little actually happening. Sure, Heather and Jon have a ton of chemistry, but slow plot combined with glacial relationship development between two closed-off people had me skimming the book from about 50% on.
The writing itself is good. These authors have talent. This one just missed the mark for me.
This book is rather silly, really, but very readable and sexy. The hero is both Air Force and uber rich, like a Harlequin Presents wet dream. He speaks fluent French for some unknown reason. The authors use words no one regularly says (vouchsafe and dungarees?). Honestly Jon is the least realistic hero I’ve read in a very long time. Supposedly he is active duty air force but considers things like burgers, beer, and t-shirts slumming it. Did he wear a 3 piece suit for all of basic training??? In spite of the many flaws, the story flows well, buoyed by being about 70% good sexy.
2.5 stars rounded up. While not marketed as erotic romance, this is definitely a story where the MCs connect sexually at first, and very powerfully so, and then consider a relationship after.
But dude. Choking is not a move you just bust out spontaneously in the bedroom - you're gonna want to warn a lady and get her okay beforehand.
The main female character, Heather, is so annoying. She absolutely ruined the book for me. She essentially never let Jon "in", keeping him at arm's distance the entire book, because she had a wild youth (like 15 years earlier!) and had trust issues. I wanted something so much better for Jon, who is a great character with so much potential.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This book had promise and potential and I liked parts of it a lot but I had a real hard time connecting to the heroine and the story dragged on and maybe there were too many sex scenes and not enough scenes where I could really see the emotional connection.
This was super heavy on sex and kink (wowzers), which I don’t mind. Story was rather lacking, tho it definitely picked up in the second half along with some character development. Ended up enjoying it more than I thought.
This is straight up erotica but pretty good storyline too. I can’t believe how many steamy scenes there were in this book. I lost count. It was a fun read though
DNF. A freebie that had great main character chemistry (he’s a fighter pilot, so major Top Gun vibes bc MAVERICKS ABOUND), but I don’t think the narrative knew what it wanted to do with the risk/fear dynamic. While there is a steamy scene lurking in nearly every chapter, I got kind of bored (?) which seems weird bc I’m not reading this genre for its profound philosophical nuggets—-but—-I guess even purveyors of smut need a bit more plot? 😅
Heather has spent years reforming herself after a massive lapse of judgement left her in a dangerous position. The only thing left of her wild-child past is a nipple ring which she hides very well under her stuffy accounting suits. When she is approached by a sexy, smug man at a wine-testing, the temptation of a no-holds bar sexual fling is too much to temptation to pass up. Armed with a safe-word of Panda, Heather sets herself firmly into Jon’s very capable hands.
Captain Jon “Tin-Tin” Carlisle is not looking for anything other than sex from anyone. Constantly fighting against the limits his very well-off family try to place on him, a relationship is the last thing he wants. What he wants is only sex and he gets it. Often. When he approaches Heather at the event, he sees her as another conquest, another notch on his belt.
When she agrees to put herself fully at his mercy, he can’t quite believe what a gift he has been handed. When she turns out to be just an uninhibited as him, they begin a sexual game of dares that takes them closer and closer to the edge of their mutual limits. But will the amount of sexual trust they are placing in each other really lead to a smooth break when they decide their time is up?
This book was a complete surprise. Both this book and the first one were incredibly steamy, but this one brought angst to the table that gave this story a depth that really hooked me into the story.
Heather was a good heroine. I always like a heroine who doesn’t have sexual hang-ups in erotica and she is a woman who seems to have the no limits when it comes to sex. I was a little surprised at just how much trust she places in Jon, but once hearing about her background, I realised that it fit her character well. Heather is a woman with a past and some of those past decisions nearly got her hurt. Ever since then she has bundled up these feelings and desire behind a boring suit and refused to acknowledge the woman she once was. Something about Jon brings this sexually adventurous woman to the forefront once more. The fact that he was willing to give as he got made this a more explosive relationship.
Jon is a man who lives very very fast. He spends money like it goes out of fashion, sleeps with hoards of women and flies a jet plane. Basically, he is a very very bad man. But that side to Jon seems to be the face he’d like everyone to see, hiding what he is underneath. There are multiple examples of just how far he will go far for his friends or anyone else he cares about. He will go to any lengths to make sure they are safe and well; I loved him. He expects his liaison with Heather to go the way that they all do but her total inhibition with him lead to them spending the weekend together, pushing each other’s limits to the max.
This book is SEXY. Seriously. With a capital S. It covers (in no particular order) bondage, blindfolding, spanking, anal sex, anal play (M and F), exhibitionism, sex-toys, masturbation, voyeurism and finally autoerotic asphyxiation. Now I mention this final one because I thought it was done very very well and this is a sexual practice I have seen written very bad. There is established trust, a safe gesture and complete control; bravo to both the authors involved in this because this done badly would make me DNF a book based on a heroine being TSTL.
I loved the sense of camaraderie that underlines these books. Tin-Tin, Princess and Fang are all present again in this book along with a few more of the squadron. I like that they are each other’s family. I love that they have been through war together and have come out the otherside with a friendship that has no limits or boundaries. I like that, in each book, the heroine has had to face the real possibility that the man they are in a relationship may one day fly in war again. I just like the whole thing. Can’t wait for Princess’s book....
This book was a revelation to me. Hot, sexy, angsty and completely naughty... it had me reaching for the ice-bucket at several points *fans*
Gah! I loved this book so much! Seriously, I can’t tell you how hot it was…it’s something you need to discover for yourself. When I first got asked to review this one I hesitated because I had never heard of this author and I hadn’t read the first book in the series. I found out that Katie Porter is actually two authors in disguise….Carrie Lofty and Lorelie Brown are tag teaming and writing together to produce some of the sexiest words I’ve ever read.
I thought Inside Bet was going to be more novella length but ladies this is full length with enough sexy scenes to wear down your mechanical boyfriends batteries! Jon is so stoically sexy. Full of himself to the highest order and sure he can get with the buttoned up woman he spies sitting at a table alone at a wine tasting. What he finds in Heather isn’t a buttoned up ANYTHING, but a woman looking to go just a bit wild. Their attraction ignites instantly and the they drawn into a games of high stakes dares where the winner gets to call the shots on every desire or whim they find appealing.
What starts out as simple sexual fun…and by simple I mean kinky mckinkerston…turns into a game of control quickly. Jon is used to calling all the shots and being able to walk away cleanly in the morning. He finds that Heather calls to him on some primal level. He craves her more with every kinktastic episode they play out. Loved Jon, loved loved loved him! He was so arrogant in the beginning, and while I feel I should have found it horrible…I found him so sexy instead. Seriously, I kept saying “what the hell Nikki, he’s an ass….” then I’d talk back to myself and say “yeah, but he’s a GOD in bed….” Lucky for me Jon turned out to be less of an ass once he slowly started opening up….and this isn’t real life. One softy spoken french word from Jon and I was a goner. I am an accent whore.
Heather was a harder sell for me. I understood her reluctance to associate with a relationship because of her past, but only up to a point. Most of me wanted her to just move on. She had a bad experience, a really bad one, I get that and so she has worked really hard to remain in control of herself ever since. But why deny yourself the opportunity to flourish in a relationship? Why not at least TRY? Even after Jon slowly starts to open up about his own murky past, she keeps pushing him away. It got a bit tiresome after a while. It’s like having a friend that keeps screwing up and eventually it’s exhausting for you to be there to pick up the pieces….that’s what my connection with Heather felt like. Jon has a friend in this book that was exactly like that too. I wonder if the authors did that on purpose.
I wish the conflict would have been pushed further then Heathers inability to let go of her strong armed control. There was great opportunity to involve the cocky pilot in Jon’s classes that could have been played up. It was all set up and then nothing came of it so I feel that missed the mark a bit. Maybe there will be more on that in the next book, but left as is, it felt uncompleted.
Really…story aside….the sex….was…..HOT. And as a side note, the first book I have ever read that hit on asphyxiation fetishes. I put the book down somewhere in the middle after a particularly hot scene, turned to hubs and said “I need a fighter pilot to have sex with me on the hood of an Aston Martin, you know…..for research” I mean, how can I know if what I just read is possible? I should check it out so I don’t look like a dumbass in my review. It should be noted that hubs is used to me asking him how hot things would get and if it would be possible to have sex on it comfortably.
I’m off topic, read Inside Bet and don’t blame me when you need new batteries.
Inside Bet is number two of the Katie Porter writing duo's, Vegas Top Guns series. They are all available for pre-order on Amazon starting July.
Um. Ok. Where do I begin here. Shifting gear. This is NOT a Harlequin Mills & Boon. At least not the usual kink…I mean kind. I think this book qualifies as an erotic romance. Now I have to admit to being a little out of my depth here. So, in the past I’ve played around a bit, the odd short story, novella, a Harlequin Blaze or two. But this is the first time I’ve gone all the way…with a full length novel in this genre. But when a review copy lands in my inbox what's an avid reader to do.
The heroine is uptight accounting high flyer Heather Morris, still trying to live down the mistakes of her teen years though she's approaching 32. When she meets the genuine high flying article, F16 Pilot Jon Carlyle, it seems fate has handed her an opportunity to let her wild child out for a brief, very controlled fling. The cool cynical 26 year old, with his unlimited trust account and an Alpha Romeo, is definitely not safe, and Heather needs safe for the long haul.
So, let get down to it. After a few chapters of very sexy, witty and er...stimulating...foreplay we see that Heather does indeed have a very wild side and Jon is the perfect guy to play with. Yet just as I was starting to think, am I gonna be able to cope with another 200 pages of this level of heat, Katie Porter took things to a whole new level. I already liked the characters, but suddenly I was noticing a lot more going on. Yup, sure enough this was turning into a love story. As unlikely as it seemed at first sight these two have a lot to offer each other.
The development of the relationship really starts to take off when life offers a few hiccups to what was to be a, shall we say,'just mind blowing sex', kind of deal. Not that there wasn't a lot of sex. Interesting, tilt your head to the side with a puzzled expression sex. Steamy hot, burn the eyeballs sex. Some of that um...kinky sex. But all of it was part of the story sex. Part of the development of the relationship sex. It was explicit in places, enough to make me a little, maybe sometimes a lot, uncomfortable, but not distastefully so.
The story itself captured my interest right from the start. The dialogue is clever, funny in places, and shows the development of the relationship nicely. The characters didn't take long to engage me, and become emotionally invested in the outcome. This is a romance so the HEA is a given, in this case it was a very satisfying and believable outcome. I hope in book 3 we get to see how they are going.
It reads well as a stand alone though you do meet the characters from the first book, Jon's flight teammate Ryan and his girl Cass and the heroine of the third book, another Top Gun Pilot 'Princess' Leah.
I gave this book four stars because though parts of it were not to my personal taste I did enjoy it very much in the context of the genre.
This is a great series and a total surprise for me! I loved this book, it's original and fresh and it's got everything you want in an erotic romance. Not only will I be reading the books to come in this series, but I'm adding Katie Porter to my must read list! The characters are well written and the stories have a way of pulling you into them, so that you are just as emotionally invested as the characters are.
After reading the first book I was really looking forward to Jon's story and I'm not disappointed! I usually go for the straight out bad boys but Jon is so different than that. He's rich and cultured and so very arrogant but some how it's still charming when paired with that killer sense of humor and a hidden sweet side. And come on, a fighter pilot, that's intriguing itself. ;) It just worked for him and made me love him all the more. Heather was a great female lead character. In fact she has to be one of my all time favorite female characters. On the outside she's all business but on the inside she's a sexy bad girl just waiting to come out and play. And the two of them together, talk about some of the hottest sex scenes I have EVER read...and let me tell you, I've read a lot! The chemistry between the two is explosive, especially with their little game of dares and when they finally get to that make it or break it point, well it's pretty much the sweetest one I've read in a while!
It was great to see the other characters again in this one. Ryan and Cass from the first book and Leah, who is quite the train wreck, who will be in the next book. I'm anxious to read Leah's book to find out what becomes of her. It'll be nice to see her get a happy ending too.
Overall this is a sexy, entertaining and refreshing read, as I implied more than once, I haven't read a book I liked this much in a while. I give this book 5 Moons and recommend it to fans of Military Romance and Erotic Romance. It's definitely a must read and take it from me, you won't regret it! It'll have you so hot you'll have to have more! :)
This is the second book in Katie Porter's Vegas Top Guns series, and oh my! They are just getting better and better.
On the face of it, Inside Bet is scorching hot sex. Heather Morris, a straight-laced accountant with a wild background she keeps hidden like a shameful secret and Jon "Tin Tin" Carlisle, a playboy flyboy stationed at the local Air Force base meet by chance at a wine tasting, and sparks fly like it's the finale of the Fourth of July fireworks spectacular. They are both surprised by the chemistry and vow to enjoy that as a delicious one-night thing.
But what surprises them even more is that they find they... can't. Tentatively, cautiously, and reluctantly, they start to see that they really enjoy each other's company, that they might be willing to not only trust themselves with the other in bed (pushing those games and those limits farther than either has ever done before--and that's pretty far!), they might actually be able to entrust their real selves to the other *out* of the bedroom.
Jon is very much like this story--he presents himself as just another gorgeous face on the make for a good time. But what he works so hard to keep hidden is a loyal heart (a la Rin Tin Tin) who has yet to find reason to trust a woman with its care. While his creative burning up the sheets with Heather will have your pulse racing, Ms. Porter's slow reveal of Heather and Jon's reasons for caution and their growing bond will have your eyes and your heart filling with the gamut of emotions.
Don't miss this read. Ms. Porter (actually Lorelie Brown and Carrie Lofty ably co-writing) includes glimpses of Ryan and Cass from Double Down (book 1) and Leah, whose story gets told next in Hold 'Em.
4.5 stars. LOVED the book and can't get enough of this series. I knew the writing would be HOT, but what surprised me was how much I liked Jon. In the previous book he's a rich, playboy with a smart attitude, but behind that ass-hole exterior he's very loyal to his friends, so I knew there was something more to him, but I never thought I would have connected with him like I did. I ended up really pulling for him and Heather as a couple. GOOD writing and GOOD story totally pulled it off. I found their mind games and dares fun and exciting to read. This book broke the typical writing style mold which was exhilarating. The story is FRESH and like the characters, kept me on my toes. The amount of kink is PERFECT and this is one series I'll go back to again and again. The writing duo that is Katie Porter is clever and talented and I look forward to reading #3. If you like your stories well written and kinky with a dose of emotion and engaging dialog, you DO NOT want to pass this series by. K
