Alexandra Parker came home from the past only to find herself in the middle of an underground war—one that could affect the fate of Variants everywhere.

Fighting an all-powerful government agency is tough enough, but when a secret from John Grayson’s past comes back to haunt them all, the group’s united front begins to crumble. And when Alex’s own painful memories threaten to push her past her breaking point, the uprising stands to lose its most powerful weapon.

With their lives and their freedom on the line, can Declan, Nate, and the rest of the Grayson family hold it together long enough to bring down Director Carter and derail Brian’s apocalyptic visions?

As Alex struggles to master her most volatile ability yet, only one thing is certain: the uprising’s cold war with the Agency is about to turn red hot.

Brilliant but disappointing ending

This book was as fantastic as i expected. Well written and a page turner i could not put it down. However i am so disappointed with the ending. Now this could be on me but i thought that this was the last book and i just thought it would have been a perfect ending to the series.

I am looking forward to the next book but i just hope that the wait is a little shorter. No matter what i know Jena Leigh will make it worth the wait.

I've read all of the other books in this series, and I loved every last one of them. This one was sadly a disappointment for me.

The whole story revolves around the Agencey, and I completely forgot about the threat from Masterson because the book never mentioned him until in the last few pages Alex gets kidnapped by him. Like really?!? What the crap! The end of the third book basically had doom and gloom all over Mastersons master plan (haha see what I did there), and then he is completly forgotten until he is taking Alex.

I was also hoping for a little more time spent of Alex's and Declan's relationship, but she seemed to just brush him aside everytime he tried to talk to her.

I still plan on reading the next one when it comes out, because I loved the first three so much, but this one sadly didn't do it for me.

Okay. I literally read this entire series in less than a week. I was hooked from the start. I absolutely love the character development that Alex goes through. And Declan...👌👌👌 He couldn’t have been more perfect. All of his insecurities and his personality. Just...perfect.
I will leave a little warning for the end of this book: it’s a roller-coaster of emotions.
The scene after you-know-what happens and Alex jumps to the desert? It was so powerful, the scene practically leaped off the pages and I could feel the rage and anguish seeping through the words.
Needless to say, I really wish that fifth book was out already. I know there are plans for it, but there haven’t seen any announcements. (Cliff-hanger!!!!😫😱😤🙏😬😧🤐)
I’d like to take a moment and thank Jena for such a beautifully crafted story. Each individual character grabbed ahold of my heart and I don’t want them to let go. I laughed. I cried. I squealed in delight. I yelled in frustration. I’ve never been more in love with a set of characters than I am now.
My only hope is that others can have the same experience I did. So thank you, Jena. The Variants have stolen my heart and I feel I will never be the same.

I had a long wait between book 3 and this one. I don't know if that affect my enjoyment or not but while it was still a good story I just didn't love it like I did the earlier books it the series. I just felt a little disconnected from Alex and the other this time around. And while the story was still full of action I just wasn't as pulled in. And speaking if disconnected the earlier sense of connection between ALex & Declan and made them such a cute couple was missing - if fact it felt like we hardly got any time with Decks at all. I was really happy to have Cassie back though - I definitely missed her at the start and the story was greatly improved when she returned to the group. Was not expecting that rather shocking event right near the end and was not at all happy about it but that is a personal thing - it was certainly good writing. As to the cliffhanger ending I hate them. Especially when the next book isn't out and we don't have a release date yet.

I picked up the first book in this series at the Roanoke Author Invasion because the back cover copy looked interested and I wanted to help support self-published authors. I have been impressed by these books all the way through. While the overall concept isn't mind blowing: "veiled world hidden from humans, girl finds out that not only is she one of them, but one of the strongest with a unique power" but the writing is done well and the story is very tight through the four books I've read. I haven't had this much trouble with a set of books in a while. I ordered the next three all at once and basically read them in the three days after they arrived, which was horrible for my schedule but I just couldn't put them down.

I've been anxiously waiting for this book. Bought it on the day it came out. After reading, it was well worth the purchased. I truly enjoyed it. I love how I began to see Alex growing into a more confident person. I also love how there was alternating POVs because I got to see each person's thought. Not just that, but it also flowed really well in pushing the story forward and helps me as a reader grow closer to the characters. Of course, we can't forget about Alex and Declan. I love how this book doesn't have any useless love triangle dramatics and that Alex and Declan were able to solve the problems they had in their relationship. I'm really looking forward to the next book!

My thoughts: Are. You. Kidding me.

I came back to finish the series years after reading the first and thought it was done when I saw 4 books published. There's a fifth?

Arghhhh, the series is so good, I wish I could read it now! Please tell me the 5th will come out soon? It's been 5 years since this one was published. Surely it'll come out soon, right?

With eager anticipation, I wait.

WOW. This is such good book. I love how the characters have changed over the four books. There are some amazing twist in this book and it will have you crying by the end.

I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.

Hard to put down.

I really enjoyed the whole series. Anyone who a good versus evil will enjoy it. I gave it 4 stars because I thought this WS the last, but it is a cliff hanger. If you want a strong female hero, read this series.

I wanted to give it 5 stars, but I was a little lost on the beginning. I will say though, I enjoyed it very much, and the wait was worth it. Can't wait to read the next one in the series.

Going to need therapy after this one, seriously Jena Leigh way are you doing this to me. There were several times I had to stop reading and walk away to wipe my eyes from crying. I thought this was going to be the last book in the series but Jena Leigh surprised me again with another cliffhanger ending. Hope the wait for the next book is a bit shorter then the other times. This book is about taking down the Agency. Masterson is put to the side for now. It’s hard to forget that Alex is only 17 and has to deal with all this drama.
